  1. i first started making "beachcomber" in early november 2022. at that point i was about a month off releasing "WEBJET HIKE", and while i have fond memories of producing the tracks on that EP ("STOPLIGHT" in particular), i'm honestly not too proud of it in retrospect. looking back, the vibe that album went for strikes me as very ungrounded and almost absurdist in its delivery, because it didn't really come from any real life inspirations or anything like that - it was just some ironic joke rather than something serious. i'm still really proud of most of the tracks on it, but at the time i felt like i was digging myself into a creative rut for soundcloud likes that i wasn't even really getting, like i was trying to make everything sound maximalist to the point that it sucked a lot of the fun out of making music - that's mainly what inspired me to make this album. the goal was to exclusively put focus on samples, and to use them to create a sense of upward progression - there is still original instrumentation in places here but unlike "field communications", which had a lot of original melodies being played alongside the samples, it wasn't the album's main focus at all. it's also a spiritual successor to my album "lone signal" from back in 2021, and i used that project as the blueprint for this one in terms of samples and overall vibe. my initial plan was to get it done back in november, just a couple of weeks after i started, but unfortunately the samples on this were really hard to find (partially due to laziness lol) so it ended up taking me until june this year. most of the samples i found landed on the last track "void simulation", which was heavily inspired by "Power Approaches" by Cities Aviv. i thought one long track taking up half of the entire runtime was a cool idea, and it also gave me a chance to experiment with the whole sample progression thing i was talking about earlier - it's probably my favourite track here. this album also had a lot of outtakes because i wanted to keep the tracklist as compact as possible to focus on the track sequencing - i'll probably release some of the outtakes later on down the line. that's about all there is to say, this has been in the works for way too long so i'm glad to finally get it done. i hope this was able to add some insight into how it turned out the way it is, and i sincerely hope you all enjoy the album too. i do have some extra stuff planned for later this year, but given how quickly this album got out of hand i'm definitely not ready to make any promises on when that's gonna happen lol. thanks for all the support.
