Chat Guide Update

Welcome to our Chat Guide! This is a simple document designed to just give the basics on what is and isn't allowed in the chat, in addition to basic instructions on joining!

+ CONNECTING!

You must have a registered nick to join #Site19. For those unfamiliar with registering a nick, here's how to do it:

Type the following: /msg NickServ register [password] [email]

Substitute the stuff in brackets with your desired password and email. Do not leave in the brackets! Once this is done, you should get a confirmation email. Follow the directions in the email. Once that's done, you simply type "/msg nickserv identify [password]" without the quotes to identify. "/ns identify [password]" works as well on some clients. (Again, no brackets.)

Congratulations, you have now registered and identified and can join the channel. Some chat clients can ID automatically once you've registered. It is highly recommended that if you don't ID automatically, you don't type out the command in a public channel. If you screw up and, say, forget the / or type a space in front of it, you just announced your password to everyone. In addition, you'll want to type "/ns set secure on" once you get in the channel, so nobody else can use your nick when you aren't around.

+ RULES AND REGULATIONS

* "Don't be a dick." If you're doing something, and it makes you a dick? Don't do it. That covers 90% of everything in the rules below.

* The following things are common reasons for an instant permaban:
 * Trolling
 * Harassment of users. Taking personal grudges beyond this room or this site counts as harassment.
 * Ban evasion.
 * Being underage. The minimum age is 15. Note that if we have to ask your age repeatedly, you're doing it wrong.
 * Spamming.
 * Purposely not tagging a jump scare / screamer.
 * Sexual harassment

* The following things are common reasons for a temporary ban:
 * Ignoring an OP order
 * Being immature and annoying.
 * Failing to tag non-work safe images.
 * Failing to tag screamers/jump scares/etc.
 * Telling us how great or terrible your sex life is.
 * Talking about how high you are, or what drugs you do.

* The following will get you kicked, and banned if you keep it up:
 * Excessive /me's. You'll see this repeated several times, which should give you a clue as to how annoying it is.
 * Excessive evangelism about technology, video games, or anything else to the point where it becomes disruptive.
 * Ignoring drafts
 * Acting like your opinion is fact.
 * Being stupid or creepy.
 * Disobeying the OPs.
 * Excessive rudeness.
 * Talking badly about users behind their backs
 * Refusing to drop a disruptive or overwhelming topic when asked to do so.

Note that having a disability, being in an altered state of mind, or anything like that is not an acceptable excuse for breaking our rules.

+ CHAT OPS

The chat ops moderate the channel. They can boss you around and generally keep chat running smoothly. They have access to changing channel modes, and doing stuff like muting the channel, kicking, and banning. Please respect OP decisions. If you think a chat OP is abusing their power, tell someone. Start with a different OP first. **The final authority in the chat is thedeadlymoose, the Chat Owner:** report any serious misuses of authority to him. + Secondary Chatrooms

The following chatrooms are associated with the SCP Foundation Wiki and #site19. These channels are not under #site19 rules, except where noted. Typically, they have their own rules and are run by individual community members. Consult with one of their OPs if you have any questions.

**Roleplaying:**
* **[http://scp-foundation-origins.wikidot.com/system:real-time-chat origins-ooc]** - Origins' out-of-character chat. Currently run by Roget and his GM team. Origins is a roleplay based on the early days of the Foundation and how the Foundation grew into what it is today. The game takes places at Site-19, with characters going on missions to retrieve, destroy, or otherwise interact with SCP objects.

* **#farreconooc** - Far Recon's out-of-character chat. Currently run by TheRaven and his GM team. You can access the out-of-character chatroom [http://far-recon.wikidot.com/system:real-time-chat here]. Far Recon is a roleplay based on [[[SCP-354]]] and the personnel who work there. The game takes places at Area-354, with characters going on missions into the pool.

**Extracurricular:**
* **#site17** - Chatroom just for chatting with the staff of the SCP Foundation. Ask us questions, bring up issues. Keep excess general chitchat in #site19; rules are otherwise the same as #site19. We are much more likely to be lenient if you're new. Owned by Foundation admins and run by all Foundation staff (including mods, senior staff, & 19 chat ops). May be joined easily from http://05command.wikidot.com/chat.
* **#Area14** - Chatroom just for SCP critique. Especially good for highly technical help. Heavy on moderation. Goes by a one-strike rule, so tread carefully. Owned by EchoFourDelta; staffed by a subset of Foundation staff.
* **#ethicscommittee** - A channel for discussion of sensitive topics. A semi-safe space; zero tolerance for harassment. Owned by thedeadlymoose.
* **[http://scpminecraft.wikidot.com/the-scpm-chat SCP MineCraft]** - A project for multiplayer minecraft run by TheRaven, Roget, and Snowshoe.
* **#WanderersLibrary** - The official chat for the [http://wanderers-library.wikidot.com/ Wanderer's Library], listed here due to the connection to this site. Owned by DrMann; staffed by Library staff.
