  1. #THE_WALKING_STUCK Rules!
  2. (Setting information at http://pastebin.com/t8aqMWUv )
  3. PLEASE READ THE RULES SECTION THOROUGHLY, AS WELL AS ENSURE YOU HAVE A BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE RP SETTING.
  4. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, FEEL FREE TO ASK AN OP (Indicated by the people with shades in the memo userlist)
  5.
  6. This is an RP memo, one that is likely to have rather dark themes (This is the apocalypse, after all!).
  7. Humans, Trolls, fantasy creatures and aliens are all welcome - But no canon characters, please. This is an OC (Original character) memo. Your character can be from whatever setting or universe you like!
  8. (Please refer to Rule #6, however)
  9.
  10. This memo is likely not for you if you:
  11. -Dislike the horror genre
  12. -Are averse to graphic descriptions of violence
  13. -Are under the age of 15 (I know we have some minors on Pesterchum)
  14. -Are prone to being offended/upset by the imagery that will be present
  15. Finally,
  16. -Are seeking casual roleplay with little storyline/development.
  17.
  18. On the other hand, if you:
  19. -Enjoy relatively serious roleplay (You choose how serious you want it to be!)
  20. -Wish to immerse yourself in an already well-detailed horror setting
  21. -Would like to roleplay a character in the zombie apocalypse!
  22. -Are okay with a certain degree of graphic violence and horror
  23. And, importantly:
  24. -Will seek to enrich everyone's roleplay experience and not just your own
  25. Then I believe you will enjoy this Memo and the roleplay contained within!
  26.
  27. Rules:
  28. #1 - Keep in-character and out-of-character seperate.
  29. >To those who do not understand these terms, 'In-character' refers to speech and actions that your character is performing in the RP setting. 'Out-of-character' refers to you, the author, the person behind your computer!
  30. >OOC is generally indicated by double brackets, i.e. "((This is how we talk OOC))" "[[This is also acceptable]]" "<<As is this! Just make sure it's clear that you're OOC and not IC.>>"
  31. >This also refers to how we treat each other IC as opposed to OOC. If someone is an asshole to you IC, don't take it to OOC. The same way that villains in the cinema are portrayed by actors who are really very nice off-set, characters who are assholes will usually have authors who are nice people as well!
  32.
  33. #2 - No intentionally offensive language/behaviour OOC.
  34. >Swearing/cursing is fine as long as it's not directed at someone with the intention to cause offense.
  35. >Racism, sexism or any other form of discrimination will NOT BE TOLERATED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.
  36. >Likewise, harassing other people will swiftly get you banned. No excuses.
  37. >On the other hand, as stated above, actions IC should be treated as seperate from OOC.
  38. >>If someone's IC behaviour is upsetting you OOC, I suggest you talk about it OOC; ask them politely to tone it down. I know we can get emotionally attached to our characters sometimes to the point where other characters can upset us with their behaviour.
  39.
  40. #3 - No graphic depictions of sexual activity (i.e. No ERP).
  41. >Take it to private chat or simply fade to black, guys.
  42. >The line is firmly drawn at clearly sexual behaviour (Stripping, groping, rubbing against each other... I shouldn't really have to list this stuff but some people just don't get it.)
  43. >>This is a GUIDELINE; cross it and you will be immediately asked to stop. If an OP requests you stop, you stop and take it to private chat. If someone else requests you stop, you should tone it down; fail to do this and an OP will likely ask you to stop.
  44. >Kissing and cuddling and related soppy stuff is totally fine. Just try not to kill people with sickly-sweet rainbow adorableness.
  45. >>(seriously please don't overdo it)
  46.
  47. #4 - Take extremely detailed/drawn out violence or strife to another memo.
  48. >This is for two reasons:
  49. >>One, this kind of RP, while fantastic in its rich, detailed descriptions, can REALLY clog up the main RP memo if it goes on for too long, to the point where other people's RP is drowned out. This is basically the equivalent of "Take it outside".
  50. >>Two, this stuff can get REALLY gory to the point where it risks upsetting others. There's a line to be drawn, for example, between generic Hollywood action and the Saw movies. If it's entering the latter territory, take it elsewhere. Extreme body horror is not something we all want to see.
  51.
  52. #5 - Legible writing, please.
  53. >No colours that are too bright to read
  54. >No overly complicated/messy quirks
  55. >Relatively decent English (Don't worry too much if your grammar/spelling isn't great, but try to work on it)
  56.
  57. #6 - NO OVERLY POWERFUL CHARACTERS
  58. >I know this will upset some people but they just don't suit the setting and risk upsetting the RP where people playing very powerful characters are placed among normal humans/trolls/etc.
  59. >This includes:
  60. >>God tiers
  61. >>Medium to High-level magic (Basic spells are fine; Complex, powerful ones are not, even if they take time and effort to set up and/or perform)
  62. >>Incorporeal entities (i.e. Any creature without a physical form)
  63. >You may, however, still take part with a powerful character if they DO NOT USE THEIR POWERS at any time.
  64. >>This may be handwaved IC any way you wish, or you may choose to simply make no reference to the powers they should normally have. It's up to you.
  65. >This rule will be enforced at the OPs' discretion. If they believe your character is too powerful, they will ask you to restrict them in some way.
  66. >>Feel free to ask them beforehand, telling them about your character and their abilities to see if it's okay.
  67.
  68. #7 - No powergaming/metagaming.
  69. >Powergaming is, essentially, playing your character in a way that is unfair on others. This can involve:
  70. >>Instantly landing a hit in fights, "/me punches them in the face, breaking their nose and knocking them unconscious"
  71. >>Consistently avoiding hits in an unreasonable manner, "/me is shot at with an assault rifle and ducks between all the bullets without being hit"
  72. >>Acting in a way that is impossible in relation to your character's abilities, "/me runs after the olympic sprinter, catching up and tackling them to the ground"
  73. >Metagaming is using knowledge obtained OOCly to gain an IC advantage. One example of this could be deliberately looking where another character is hiding when they have no way of knowing where the other person is.
  74. >Overall, be reasonable and fair. Don't take the piss.
  75.
  76. #8 - No potentially triggering subjects.
  77. >Self harm, rape... Just don't do it. OPs will take swift action if you do.
  78.
  79. #9 - No alternate timelines.
  80. >One version of a character. That's it.
  81. >Ancestors and Dancestors (Alpha timeline) are allowed within reason. They are not to be used as a means to get around the one-character system.
  82. >The reason for this rule is simple: It makes risk, danger and death meaningful. It stops a character's death being passed off as a doomed timeline. If your character dies, they die (Of course, it doesn't end there...). Besides, wouldn't constantly being the same character get boring?
  83.
  84. #10 - Regarding non-humanoids/animals, e.g. Lusii, mythical beasts.
  85. >Rule #6 applies, they must not be too powerful - I do, however, recognise that certain creatures supposedly have certain innate abilities (e.g. Dragons breathing fire). In this case, use of the power will be tolerated as long as it is not abused or overused.
  86. >Such creatures must also be sentient and capable of communication with the humanoid characters.
  87. >>This means no regular animals as well as no mindless beasts.
  88.
  89. These rules are subject to change/amendment when considered appropriate or necessary. They are to be considered guidelines and NOT set in stone.
  90. OPs' discretion always applies.
  91. If you feel you have been mistreated by an OP, contact any of the other OPs or the owner of the memo (drakonianBiology, aka George/Gravy) and we will consider your case and the appropriate action to take.
  92.
  93. Please always remember that we're here to enjoy ourselves, OPs and regular members alike!
  94. Please also remember that we're all Human! (With some possible exceptions...)
  95. With those two in mind, act in a way that's beneficial and respectful of others and you will get the same in return. Act in a way that's malevolent or disruptive and you will likely end up banned.
