It was the beginning of a new week. There was excitement in the air as the season changed from warm to slightly cooler and new festivities and fun began. For the first time in a while, even Goldbloom felt the excitement. It had been a while for hir due to the mental link shi shared with the now late Vrae. She hadn’t felt much of anything in that time period except pain. But that was changing over the course of the year, if not longer.

Goldbloom knew shi had a while to go before shi got to one hundred percent, but everyone agreed that event seventy-five percent was better than nothing. The therapy shi endured was a big help. Goldbloom’s friends and mates were a big help as well. A smile crept onto hir face as Goldbloom thought of Oksana and Wintemute. Shi had bought a surprise for them. An outing kind of surprise since she was feeling better and they could splurge a little bit now.

“Shir Goldbloom?”

Shi looked up and saw the mail chakat. Shi nodded and signed for the package quickly, her tail twitching when the package was dropped off after the mail chakat rummaged a bit then left. It was a simple red envelope with the name of the theater, Majestic Theater, in big gold letters. Goldbloom quickly ripped the envelope open.

“One...two...”

Shi blinked as it didn’t make much sense to hir. There should have been a third ticket, as shi couldn’t leave Oksana or Wintemute out of anything. Shi pulled out her PADD and quickly redialed the theater ticket hotline.

“Hello, Majestic Theater ticket hotline, this is Shir Whytefur speaking.”

“Yes, hello, umm..this is Shir Goldbloom speaking. I bought three tickets for a showing of ‘Restorations of Rainbow’ but only two showed up. I want to make sure that this can be corrected.”

As shi talked, Goldbloom could hear the typing the chakat was doing and an audible ‘hmm’. It was all Goldbloom could do to keep hir own anger in check. This was absolutely ridiculous in hir mind. Shi ordered three tickets, there should be three tickets.

“Yes, I do see the error. But sadly there is really nothing we could do at this time except give you a partial refund. The play is sold out completely. The next available showing would be a few weeks from now.”

“I see. Isn’t there anything you can do? My mates and I were supposed to celebrate something very important to us. I have two mates and I don’t want to leave any of them out.”

The clicking of either claws or keys, Goldbloom couldn’t tell which, continued as the chakat on the other end searched. Goldbloom let out a sigh and hoped that something could be done. Goldbloom wasn’t the type to be easily agitated but this was doing a good job on her nerves.

“I’m sorry, Shir, there’s nothing we can do. We are booked solid. The best we can do is give you a refund on the price of the ticket not sent.”

“I see. I suppose that will have to do. Please send a confirmation receipt as well.”

They ended the conversation there, with Goldbloom sitting back and wondering what to do. Shi checked hir balance and sure enough the refund was there as well as a confirmation note in hir mail. The call came over the intercom for hir to report to another surgery, so shi didn’t have much time to think on it at the moment. It would have to wait until shi got back to the apartment with the others. Goldbloom silently hoped that the surgery wouldn’t take too long, with the patient easily recovering, so shi could get home.

Oksana and Wintemute were sitting around the table enjoying a small snack. It had been that kind of day for both of them. Tea was still warm though when Goldbloom came in. Oksana as the first to greet hir with a hug and a rather lewd kiss. Wintemute came up next with a gentle squeeze and kiss to the cheek.

“How was your day, Goldie?”

“It wasn’t too bad. One surgery, thankfully the patient pulled through. That was the most exciting part of my day.”

Goldbloom sat down at the table and poured hirself some tea, adding in a little bit of sugar. The other two looked worried, as though Goldbloom was relapsing. Oksana moved in closer to the golden furred chakat and squeezed in. Shi smiled and ruffled her hair.

“I’m fine, honey. Honestly, I’m fine.”

Oksana nodded and Wintemute let go of her breathe. Noise seemed to return to the room as they sat around the table and shared the cookies and tea. Goldbloom sat with a look of thought on her face and then smiled. It was a welcome sight to both of her mates. Then she let out an almost too quite giggle.

“I almost forgot. Wintemute, you like to stay home and do things right?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

Goldbloom nodded and giggled some more. Oksana tilted her head, trying to figure out what was going on as Wintemute sipped more tea. The three sat in momentary silence before Goldbloom pulled out the red envelope. Oksana picked it up and then tried not to squeal in delight. Wintemute just kept sipping her tea, though shi did raise an eyebrow.

“I felt like celebrating...”

“Ah.”

“I bought tickets to that new play, ‘Restoration of Rainbows’ and had hoped to take both of you to the play but when the package arrived at work, only two tickets showed up. I called the operators at the hotline and there was nothing I could do.”

Wintemute took Goldbloom’s paw into hirs and smiled. Oksana popped up a few seconds later and kissed both of them lightly on the cheek. A special moment was shared between them. Goldbloom just sighed.

“But then I remembered that you like to stay home, Winty, and do house chores. And that it’d make it easier on you to do them without Oksana and I here.”

They both nodded then Oksana zipped off. Goldbloom shook her head and tried to not to laugh.

“She does need to get dressed. You’ll be fine, dear. We’re both happy you’re improving and this will be a great chance for you to make sure you are improving.”

The theater was buzzing as Goldbloom and Oksana got past the ticket booth. Oksana was wearing a very cute, red dress that came just to her knees. Goldbloom had an elegant in design but simple in function shirt and had hir hair in a ponytail. The two looked as cute as could be together. They waved to people they knew as they walked to their seats.

Shortly thereafter, the lights went down and a tiger morph came onto the stage.

“Good evening ladies and gentlemorphs, I am Alexis Cassini. It’s unusual for the writer to do this, but I am here to introduce the play tonight.”

The audience clapped, a few whistled. The tiger held up her hands and smiled.

“I thank you, but tonight isn’t about me. Tonight is about the play and the actors. ‘Restoration of Rainbows’ is a fantasy piece, a child’s dream of what happens when all the color goes from your life and causes you to go on a journey to get it back. I hope you enjoy and I hope you’ll tell your friends to come back.”

She got more applause as she left the stage to take a front row seat. The curtain rose to the actors and actresses wearing all black with a two tone grey background. The play proceeded to tell the backstory of the land, named the Kingdom of Tatonia. The Kingdom had its rainbows taken away from it by an angry god and now the princess, played by a female morph and the an adventurer, played by a black and white chakat, ventured off to get the rainbows and thus the joy back.

The play proceeded on with Goldbloom and Oksana reacting when they were supposed to. Oksana looked over at hir and saw Goldbloom genuinely smiled and laughed at the funny parts. Soon it wound down to the climatic ending, where the princess and the adventurer must face the god.

“Are you enjoying yourself, honey?”

Oksana’s ear twitched and then she looked over at Goldbloom and ducked down so no one would notice. She squeezed hir hand and smiled.

“Yes, I am. This play is awesome! You’ll have to bring Winty.”

They both giggled as the play ended with the defeat of the gods and the return of the rainbows to the land. A standing ovation was given to the actors as they bowed. The actors then called the playwright onto the stage and gave her a bouquet of flowers as was tradition. The crowd of dignified morphs, chakats and others all got louder. Goldbloom and Oksana took this time to get out and beat the crowd back to their PPTV and go home.

“It was a good night.”

“Yeah, it was.”

They rode the rest of the way home in silence, though it was a happy silence. After they entered their home, they found Wintemute asleep in bed. Oksana was the first to move in and snuggled in close. Goldbloom looked at the two, with a smile that formed and then crawled

The next day, Goldbloom was doing hir rounds at the hospital when shi saw Nyxy around the corner. The two nodded at each other, unsure of what to say at the moment and being so busy that’s all they could handle. They passed each other without further comment.

After an hour though, Goldbloom finally got to take hir lunch. Shi sat in the open area eating a salad when shi heard a cough. Shi looked up to seeing Nyxy standing there, lunch in hand. Goldbloom smiled and made as much room as possible.

“I’ve been told that you are progressing well.”

“That’s right. The therapy as been a tremendous success so far. I even enjoyed a movie out with Oksana last night.”

Nyxy nodded at that, a faint smile on hir face.

“I am glad for that. I hope you enjoy many more successes like that.”

The two ate the rest of their meals in silence. Goldbloom was called away on an emergency surgery a few moments later and Nyxy was called away on an administrative need.
