1. This is why these mass shootings occur. I’ve been listening to the news, and six school shootings have occurred this year. That means dozens of young people have died, and that breaks my heart. But that also means six students felt so isolated, so crushed, so misunderstood that they could commit such acts of violence and inhumanity. That means eighteen students felt like they were living in hell, that nobody cared for them. Who is to blame? Who is the defendant? We as a society are to blame. What is the verdict? We are guilty. This blood of children is on our hands. We see people sitting alone, seeming troubled, and we say nothing. We see people isolated and friendless, and we do nothing. We see people going through hell, and we do not help them. We see others with hate in their hearts, and we do not love them. We hate those who hate others! This is foolishness and folly. Will you put out a fire with fire? No! Only water can do that. Will you put out hate with hate, violence with violence? No! Only love can do that. We have failed. We are guilty. The blood of children is on our heads, and we are convicted.

 4. In other countries, we don’t see loners who are going through hell beyond what high school normally is. We don’t see a society that fails to reach out to people who have no one and who all too often are victims of our society - whether it be teasing classmates, vicious bullies, or abusive parents. Our society has blinded itself to these kids for far too long. We have ignored them. We have judged them. We have teased and bullied them. We have over twenty dead kids because of this - and six kids who have been tormented so much, who feel so alone, so hated, that they could commit such heinous acts. The blood of the dead, the overwhelming pain and loss felt by hundreds of families and friends, is on the hands of every member of our society. We are all guilty for this.
