Background :
Jinwoo grew up in Jeonju, South Korea with his mum and dad. He was an only child. His dad left him and his mum when he was 8 years old for another woman. His mum was heartbroken but a year later got back on her feet. When he was 10 years old, his mum remarried a man who seemed to be a much better father figure than his original dad ever was.

In school, he was known around school for his constant disruptive behaviour and he also often got into fights with other kids in his year. He was quite popular in school and he had a very broad circle of friends. He had a lot of primary school relationships. You know those ones where you would sit together on the carpet and play with the playdough or sand together. You could say he had been a player from young.

When he finished primary, this is when his step dad started to reveal his true colours to him. He would smack him and shove him and manhandle him whenever his mum wasn't around. Jinwoo was always scared of him but wouldn't dare tell his mum in fear that she wouldn't believe him. For a good few years, this went on and this affected his secondary school life.

In secondary school, he was pretty independent. As he got older and older, the more isolated and independent he got. He focused on his schooling and became a different kind of person to school peers. He acted a lot more arrogant towards them and would keep himself to himself.

The abuse continued until one day, he decided to tell his mum. He expected her to drop him in a heartbeat and protect him but she did the complete opposite. She sided her husband and accused him of being a spiteful liar. In a fit of anger, one day he poisoned his dad's tea. He thought it would work, however, instead of his stepdad accepting the substance, about an hour or two later, he vomitted it back up so Jinwoo's plan failed.

He ran away from home and decided to live life on his own, doing anything he needed to survive. This is the time that he started taking drugs. When he turned 16, he joined Hope's Peak as he thought that it wouold be the right place for him. After joining, he realised he made the right decision.
