- For integrated writing, it might be a good idea to summarize the points from the lecture first, to make sure you include all three of them. Then paraphrase points from the text AND explain how the points from the lecture relate to them.

- Sample Prompt:
- Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
- The best things in life do not cost money.
- Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
- ---
- For either position, it might be easiest to talk about the three “best things in life” and explain how they do or don’t cost money.
- ---
- Organization:
- 1 Introduction: explain the topic, state the options you’re choosing between, state your opinion
- (lead-in: “There are three reasons for my opinion.” or “For me, the three most important things are ___, ___, and ___, and all/none of these cost money.”)
- 2-4 Body: state your reasons (important things), details and examples that show the reason is true (it is one of the best things) AND show that it supports your opinion (it is or isn’t free)
- 5 Conclusion: restate your opinion and summarize your reasons, takeaway for the reader (e.g. advice)

- Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
- You should not believe everything that you read in the newspaper.
- Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
- ---
- Take 3 minutes to brainstorm reasons to agree with this statement. (In particular, think of reasons to support your idea that things in the newspaper aren’t always true.)
- - personal bias of the writer
- - propaganda (a political group or organization might own the paper)
- - publicity (they want to make money, not tell the truth)
- You can support these points with examples of when each one has happened. If you don’t know much about newspapers, you can invent the examples.

- DELTA p. 407 - Common language and transitions for independent writing
- - DO NOT USE a transition signal if you’re not confident you know how to use it correctly
- - Also make sure you know how to use the words in a sentence
- such as: after a comma and before one or more noun phrases
- for example: to start a sentence, followed by a comma, then a complete sentence
- (Note: “finally” is a word that introduces the last supporting paragraph, NOT the conclusion)
