  1. Managing Extensible Attributes
  2.
  3. Grid Manager displays the required extensible attributes, if there are any. You must enter values for all required attributes. If you do not have required attributes for a record, you can add optional attributes that are available. You can also delete non-required attributes. You can also delete non-required attributes for a record. You can update the value of an inheritable extensible attribute at the parent or descendant level. When you update the extensible attribute value at the parent level, you can choose to either inherit the value at the descendant level or retain the descendant attribute value.
  4.
  5. If you want to edit an extensible attribute that is associated with an Active Directory Site, you must first convert the network to managed. You cannot edit the comments when the network is unmanaged.
  6.
  7. In this tab, you can do the following:
  8.
  9. • Enter values for extensible attributes
  10.
  11. • Add attributes
  12.
  13. • Change the inheritance state of an extensible attribute
  14.
  15. • Select if the descendants must inherit the extensible attribute values from the parent
  16.
  17. • Delete non-required attributes
  18.
  19. To enter values for extensible attributes:
  20.
  21. 1. Click the Value column of the attribute.
  22.
  23. 2. Depending on the required attribute type, either enter or select a value for the attribute from the Value column. You must enter values for all required attributes. For an inheritable extensible attribute, value column displays the inherited value, name of the source, and the object type of the extensible attribute.
  24.
  25. 3. Based on whether the attribute is inheritable, the values are displayed in the Inheritance State column. This value can be set to Inherited, Overridden or Not inherited. If the attribute is at the top of the inheritance chain, this value is set to No Parent, and you cannot change the state. This column is not displayed if none of the selected objects support extensible attribute inheritance.
  26.
  27. To add attributes:
  28.
  29. 1. Click the Add icon.
  30.
  31. IPAM Manager adds a row to the table with the default attribute displayed.
  32.
  33. 2. Click the default attribute and expand the list of available attributes.
  34.
  35. 3. Select an attribute from the drop-down list.
  36.
  37. 4. Enter or select a value for the attribute from the Value column.
  38.
  39. Note: All inheritance extensible attributes which can be inherited from a parent object will be automatically inherited. Inheritable extensible attributes that are either required or recommended are automatically displayed. Optional extensible attributes that are not inheritable are not automatically displayed.
  40.
  41. To change inheritance state of an extensible attribute:
  42.
  43. 1. Select the check box beside the attribute for which you want to change the inheritance state.
  44.
  45. 2. Select a state from the drop-down list displayed in the Inheritance State column. Note that you can only change the inheritance state of a descendant. You must select Overridden from the drop-down list to enter a new value. By default, the inheritance state of a parent object is set to No Parent, and you cannot change this value.
  46.
  47. To select if descendants must inherit values from the parent:
  48.
  49. • Select the inheritable extensible attributes for which you want to modify descendant actions: Select the check box if the Descendant Actions dialog box must be displayed when you update existing extensible attributes associated with the parent object or add new extensible attributes to the parent object. Before you select this check box, you must select the extensible attributes for which you want the Descendant Actions dialog box to be displayed. This dialog box is displayed automatically when you delete an extensible attribute or change its state to Not Inherited.
  50.
  51. To delete an attribute:
  52.
  53. 1. Click the check box beside the attribute you want to delete.
  54.
  55. 2. Click the Delete icon.
  56.
  57. Note: You cannot delete an extensible attribute which has its inheritance state set to Inherited, Overridden, and Not Inherited. You can delete an extensible attribute that is directly assigned to the object and has its inheritance state set to No Parent or if the inheritance state is Disabled. When you disable inheritance for an extensible attribute, which is already inherited by descendants, then the inheritance state of respective attribute is changed to Disabled.
  58.
  59. To delete all attributes:
  60.
  61. 1. Click the Attribute Name check box.
  62.
  63. 2. Click the Delete icon.
  64.
  65. Note: You can delete only attributes that are not required. If you have one or more required attributes, you cannot use the delete all function.
  66.
  67. To save the changes, click one of the following:
  68.
  69. • Save & Close: Save the entry and close the editor.
  70.
