00:01:10,862 --> 00:01:13,990
Good evening, can I help you?

6
00:01:17,869 --> 00:01:21,039
You need something to write on.

7
00:01:37,639 --> 00:01:41,476
(LONGING PIANO MUSIC)

8
00:02:07,335 --> 00:02:10,672
Michael, it's time to garden.

9
00:02:12,173 --> 00:02:13,675
You're welcome to join me.

10
00:02:16,928 --> 00:02:17,762
Michael.

11
00:02:19,597 --> 00:02:20,431
Michael.

12
00:02:25,770 --> 00:02:26,855
I'll be out back.

13
00:02:41,536 --> 00:02:46,708
Hi. I heard you don't feel
like talking, is that right?

14
00:02:48,042 --> 00:02:49,750
Okay, we'll keep it binary.

15
00:02:49,752 --> 00:02:51,210
Yes or no.

16
00:02:51,212 --> 00:02:53,546
Nod for yes, shake for no.

17
00:02:53,548 --> 00:02:55,300
You think you can handle that?

18
00:02:56,801 --> 00:02:58,050
Good.

19
00:02:58,052 --> 00:03:01,264
Now, you handed
Officer Grey a note

20
00:03:02,223 --> 00:03:05,808
claiming to be Donovan Reid.

21
00:03:05,810 --> 00:03:06,644
Is that right?

22
00:03:12,233 --> 00:03:16,444
I've been looking for Donovan
Reid for a long time.

23
00:03:16,446 --> 00:03:19,324
And kid, you're not
what I was expecting.

24
00:03:25,079 --> 00:03:27,580
I see here that you wrote
down your date of birth

25
00:03:27,582 --> 00:03:30,499
but you couldn't remember
your home address.

26
00:03:30,501 --> 00:03:31,419
Is that correct?

27
00:03:33,504 --> 00:03:35,922
Let me explain
something to you, okay.

28
00:03:35,924 --> 00:03:39,759
If you are Donovan Reid,
you're gonna give the Reids

29
00:03:39,761 --> 00:03:42,263
back the life they thought
they had lost forever.

30
00:03:44,766 --> 00:03:48,100
But if you're not.
If you're lying,

31
00:03:48,102 --> 00:03:53,105
if you are not Donovan Reid,
then you're stealing away

32
00:03:53,107 --> 00:03:57,028
any hope that those
people ever had.

33
00:03:58,696 --> 00:04:03,368
So I'm gonna ask you,
are you Donovan Reid?

34
00:04:11,292 --> 00:04:14,963
Okay.

35
00:04:18,967 --> 00:04:21,052
Hank, Linda, you
guys can come on in.

36
00:04:24,222 --> 00:04:25,723
Why don't you two have a seat.

37
00:04:38,236 --> 00:04:40,569
(SOFT PIANO MUSIC)

38
00:04:40,571 --> 00:04:43,032
I'm sure you both have a
lot of questions to ask.

39
00:04:45,743 --> 00:04:48,079
No question, that's my son.

40
00:04:49,914 --> 00:04:52,081
Hank, I told you
we're not sure.

41
00:04:52,083 --> 00:04:53,374
I'm sure.

42
00:04:53,376 --> 00:04:55,501
I still think we
should get a DNA test.

43
00:04:55,503 --> 00:04:56,419
Hank I think the should...

44
00:04:56,421 --> 00:04:58,256
Linda, we found him.

45
00:05:03,511 --> 00:05:05,511
We're going home.

46
00:05:05,513 --> 00:05:08,266
(MUSIC SWELLS)

47
00:06:27,178 --> 00:06:29,180
Go on up, we'll have breakfast.

48
00:06:42,610 --> 00:06:47,196
Donovan, can I get
you something to eat?

49
00:06:47,198 --> 00:06:48,656
How about a waffle?

50
00:06:48,658 --> 00:06:51,035
I made some yesterday,
I think I have some batter left.

51
00:06:52,662 --> 00:06:55,540
One waffle coming up. Or three,
if you're really hungry.

52
00:07:04,215 --> 00:07:07,176
(CUTLERY CLANKING)

53
00:07:24,986 --> 00:07:26,362
Don't mind her.

54
00:07:27,071 --> 00:07:29,321
She just needs time to process.

55
00:07:29,323 --> 00:07:30,199
It's been sudden.

56
00:07:31,367 --> 00:07:35,163
Like I need to tell you.
But I promise you nothing,

57
00:07:35,663 --> 00:07:38,583
nothing can make us happier
than you being home.

Good to see you out here.

60
00:08:34,388 --> 00:08:35,806
You went off the front door?

61
00:08:37,975 --> 00:08:40,394
You didn't talk to any
strangers, did you Michael?

62
00:08:41,896 --> 00:08:43,564
I don't want you
going out front.

63
00:08:44,398 --> 00:08:45,900
You let me get the mail, okay?

64
00:08:47,568 --> 00:08:49,403
You know, I'm just
worried about you.

65
00:08:51,739 --> 00:08:52,657
What do you think?

66
00:09:04,961 --> 00:09:05,795
Michael?

67
00:09:09,090 --> 00:09:10,258
Michael?

68
00:09:14,095 --> 00:09:15,763
(WATER RUNNING)

69
00:09:16,138 --> 00:09:18,347
That's enough for today.

70
00:09:18,349 --> 00:09:19,600
Let's go inside.

71
00:09:27,316 --> 00:09:29,860
Well, here we are.

72
00:09:35,700 --> 00:09:36,951
Still not up for talking?

73
00:09:39,787 --> 00:09:40,663
Small steps, Donovan.

74
00:09:42,707 --> 00:09:43,499
Small steps.

75
00:09:48,504 --> 00:09:51,465
(SOFT PIANO MUSIC)

76
00:10:26,375 --> 00:10:27,376
So you're Donovan.

77
00:10:29,920 --> 00:10:31,420
I was.

78
00:10:31,422 --> 00:10:33,257
Does it bother
you that I'm here?

79
00:10:34,717 --> 00:10:35,716
I don't know.

80
00:10:35,718 --> 00:10:36,927
How are my parents?

81
00:10:39,680 --> 00:10:42,931
They're happy,
especially your dad.

82
00:10:42,933 --> 00:10:44,350
Good.

83
00:10:44,352 --> 00:10:45,519
Why are you here?

84
00:11:16,384 --> 00:11:19,553
Hey, how you doing?

85
00:11:22,473 --> 00:11:23,808
I forgot to give you these.

86
00:11:29,480 --> 00:11:30,314
You doing okay?

87
00:11:31,315 --> 00:11:32,149
Hey, Ellen.

88
00:11:32,358 --> 00:11:34,944
Michael, can you go
inside for me please?

89
00:11:35,903 --> 00:11:38,739
Sorry Paul, I'm
watching him for family.

90
00:11:39,740 --> 00:11:41,450
(MUFFLED)
Good kid. Quiet.

91
00:11:42,159 --> 00:11:43,325
Lots of therapy.

92
00:11:43,327 --> 00:11:45,494
Okay, I just hope
I didn't startle him

93
00:11:45,496 --> 00:11:46,829
or anything like that, you know.

94
00:11:46,831 --> 00:11:48,082
Good seeing you.

95
00:11:56,132 --> 00:12:00,175
You know you're not
supposed to talk to strangers.

96
00:12:00,177 --> 00:12:01,637
He's not a stranger.

97
00:12:02,138 --> 00:12:05,681
Everyone outside of
this house is a stranger.

98
00:12:05,683 --> 00:12:07,683
No one can see you.

99
00:12:07,685 --> 00:12:09,101
No one can know
that you're here.

100
00:12:09,103 --> 00:12:10,438
Do you understand me?

101
00:12:14,024 --> 00:12:16,817
No garden or TV time for a week.

102
00:12:16,819 --> 00:12:19,280
Trust is earned in
this house, not given.

You always did.

Donovan!

00:14:04,218 --> 00:14:05,717
Donovan, what happened?

111
00:14:05,719 --> 00:14:06,470
Are you okay?

112
00:14:09,139 --> 00:14:09,932
What was...

Look, I know we can't just

00:14:30,327 --> 00:14:31,245
I know that.

116
00:14:35,291 --> 00:14:37,501
And I'll never forget
the time we lost.

117
00:14:39,336 --> 00:14:40,671
Never forgive myself for...

118
00:14:45,134 --> 00:14:48,512
Look, I need you to
promise me something, okay?

119
00:14:50,431 --> 00:14:53,475
I need you to be patient
with her, your mother.

120
00:14:55,352 --> 00:14:56,312
Be kind.

121
00:14:58,480 --> 00:14:59,857
We're family again, right?

122
00:15:16,290 --> 00:15:18,042
I love you, Dad.

123
00:15:22,004 --> 00:15:23,297
I love you too.

(MUSIC SWELLS)

125
00:15:51,325 --> 00:15:54,868
Don't say anything,
I'll handle this.

126
00:15:54,870 --> 00:15:57,329
I saw your car,
thought I'd say hi.

127
00:15:57,331 --> 00:15:59,581
- Just out for a walk.
- It's nice day for it.

128
00:15:59,583 --> 00:16:00,874
Who's this?

129
00:16:00,876 --> 00:16:02,503
Not in the mood, Harper.

130
00:16:04,380 --> 00:16:05,506
Hank, what's going on?

131
00:16:06,423 --> 00:16:08,926
Harper, this is Donovan.

132
00:16:10,219 --> 00:16:12,928
Police found him,
called us last night.

133
00:16:12,930 --> 00:16:14,930
Why didn't you tell me?

134
00:16:14,932 --> 00:16:17,557
He's only been
home for a few hours.

135
00:16:17,559 --> 00:16:19,687
Donovan, do you remember me?

136
00:16:23,107 --> 00:16:24,191
Can I come in?

137
00:16:26,110 --> 00:16:27,194
I'm sorry, no.

138
00:16:28,278 --> 00:16:29,113
Not yet.

139
00:16:30,531 --> 00:16:31,446
Linda wouldn't like it.

140
00:16:31,448 --> 00:16:32,948
I have a right to be there.

141
00:16:32,950 --> 00:16:33,909
No, you don't.

142
00:16:35,035 --> 00:16:37,369
Look, I'll talk to her.

143
00:16:37,371 --> 00:16:39,039
Promise me this
stays between us.

144
00:16:40,457 --> 00:16:41,873
This is ridiculous.

145
00:16:41,875 --> 00:16:44,376
Donovan Reid comes
back from the dead.

146
00:16:44,378 --> 00:16:46,420
You can't keep a secret
like that forever.

147
00:16:46,422 --> 00:16:48,088
Not For me, Harper, for him.

148
00:16:48,090 --> 00:16:49,049
Just...

149
00:16:52,302 --> 00:16:53,137
I promise.

150
00:16:54,888 --> 00:16:55,764
I'll see you soon.

151
00:17:15,242 --> 00:17:19,286
Donovan, I need
you upstairs bud.

152
00:17:19,288 --> 00:17:20,497
Someone here to see you.

153
00:17:27,087 --> 00:17:28,420
Good to see you
again, Donovan.

154
00:17:28,422 --> 00:17:29,921
Please take a seat.

155
00:17:29,923 --> 00:17:30,758
Take a seat.

156
00:17:36,013 --> 00:17:39,433
I see you're still playing the
strong and silent type, huh?

157
00:17:42,644 --> 00:17:45,439
- He's barely said a word.
- Hank, I need him to answer.

158
00:17:50,027 --> 00:17:50,861
Verbally.

159
00:17:52,112 --> 00:17:53,864
I need to hear you
speak. Yes or no.

160
00:17:55,616 --> 00:17:56,283
No.

161
00:17:56,742 --> 00:17:57,657
It's a little soon
for this kind of inter...

162
00:17:57,659 --> 00:18:00,160
Memory is subjective, Hank.

163
00:18:00,162 --> 00:18:03,872
Alright? Easily twisted
and misconstrued.

164
00:18:03,874 --> 00:18:08,629
Sometimes because of
trauma, often on purpose.

165
00:18:14,468 --> 00:18:18,386
This is Detective
Schleicher, badge 529

166
00:18:18,388 --> 00:18:22,810
interviewing matching missing
persons case, number 00812.

167
00:18:24,895 --> 00:18:27,314
Can you state your full
name for me please?

168
00:18:30,651 --> 00:18:34,402
Look, if I were in your shoes,

169
00:18:34,404 --> 00:18:37,322
I wouldn't wanna talk
either, I get it.

170
00:18:37,324 --> 00:18:39,993
But I wanna catch the person
who did this, don't you?

171
00:18:43,747 --> 00:18:46,250
Can you state your full
name for me please?

172
00:18:51,088 --> 00:18:54,424
- Donovan Reid.
- And your middle.

173
00:19:00,347 --> 00:19:01,429
- It's...
- No, no, no, no.

174
00:19:01,431 --> 00:19:02,514
Hank I have a right here.

175
00:19:02,516 --> 00:19:03,431
He was only 10.

176
00:19:03,433 --> 00:19:04,432
You can't expect him to remember

177
00:19:04,434 --> 00:19:05,517
every little thing from before.

178
00:19:05,519 --> 00:19:07,102
Yes, I can.

179
00:19:07,104 --> 00:19:09,855
Fourth grade, cursive.

180
00:19:09,857 --> 00:19:12,023
I wrote my name
down so many times,

181
00:19:12,025 --> 00:19:13,861
my hand practically fell off.

182
00:19:16,864 --> 00:19:20,117
Now, did you run away?

183
00:19:22,202 --> 00:19:23,036
No.

184
00:19:25,372 --> 00:19:26,623
Oh, were you taken?

185
00:19:29,877 --> 00:19:30,711
Yes.

186
00:19:31,962 --> 00:19:34,214
SCHLEICHER: How many
people were involved?

187
00:19:34,756 --> 00:19:35,799
One?

188
00:19:36,550 --> 00:19:37,718
Two, three?

189
00:19:39,219 --> 00:19:40,969
One.

190
00:19:40,971 --> 00:19:43,638
- Male or female?
- Female.

191
00:19:43,640 --> 00:19:45,934
- Race.
- White.

192
00:19:48,395 --> 00:19:54,816
SCHLEICHER: Tall, short,
fat, skinny, glasses,

193
00:19:54,818 --> 00:19:57,487
tattoo of a heart on the
back of the neck, details.

194
00:19:59,823 --> 00:20:04,745
Short, no hearts, no glasses.

195
00:20:05,579 --> 00:20:07,915
10 years is a long
time to go missing.

196
00:20:09,791 --> 00:20:10,792
Where have you been?

197
00:20:16,673 --> 00:20:19,468
- A house.
- Where was this house?

198
00:20:22,596 --> 00:20:24,431
What color was the house?

199
00:20:27,309 --> 00:20:28,143
Brown.

200
00:20:29,603 --> 00:20:31,855
SCHLEICHER: And were are
you allowed to go outside?

201
00:20:33,941 --> 00:20:35,275
No.

202
00:20:38,862 --> 00:20:40,946
I'm looking for
Raymond Rakubian.

203
00:20:40,948 --> 00:20:42,322
Don't get cute.

204
00:20:42,324 --> 00:20:44,824
I'm just itching
to work you over.

205
00:20:44,826 --> 00:20:46,954
Soft in the belly,
can't take it.

206
00:20:48,372 --> 00:20:51,291
See, what'd I tell you?

207
00:21:01,301 --> 00:21:03,134
Can't do that to Chester.

208
00:21:03,136 --> 00:21:04,552
I'm gonna blow your guts out.

209
00:21:04,554 --> 00:21:06,682
- Easy.
- Lay off, Chester. Not now.

210
00:21:08,225 --> 00:21:09,226
ELLEN: Michael?

211
00:21:10,227 --> 00:21:11,478
Look at him.

212
00:21:11,603 --> 00:21:13,063
- He's so scared of Chester, he'll talk now
- Michael

213
00:21:14,231 --> 00:21:16,024
- He's not afraid, Chester.
- Michael.

214
00:21:18,193 --> 00:21:21,194
MAN: You can tell from
a man's eyes when he is afraid.

215
00:21:21,196 --> 00:21:26,700
I need you to go to your
room and lock your door

216
00:21:26,702 --> 00:21:33,375
and shut your windows and
be quiet for an hour or two.

217
00:21:35,502 --> 00:21:36,670
Can you do that for me?

218
00:21:44,720 --> 00:21:48,763
So we have a single
white female, short,

219
00:21:48,765 --> 00:21:50,432
no distinguishing features.

220
00:21:50,434 --> 00:21:52,769
I think we ought to start
arresting soccer moms.

221
00:21:53,020 --> 00:21:54,021
Heh.

222
00:21:56,023 --> 00:21:59,024
Hank, I would like to
talk to Donovan alone

223
00:21:59,026 --> 00:22:00,108
if you don't mind.

224
00:22:00,110 --> 00:22:01,028
Absolutely not.

225
00:22:01,403 --> 00:22:04,237
Hank, there are some things
a child would never admit to

226
00:22:04,239 --> 00:22:05,697
in front of a parent, okay?

227
00:22:05,699 --> 00:22:07,117
It's only gonna take a minute.

228
00:22:25,969 --> 00:22:27,469
You're lying.

229
00:22:27,471 --> 00:22:28,430
You're a liar.

230
00:22:30,974 --> 00:22:32,559
Sure, I get it, we all do it.

231
00:22:34,561 --> 00:22:36,229
Only this time it's a felony.

232
00:22:41,735 --> 00:22:42,986
You're a leech.

233
00:22:44,488 --> 00:22:46,446
Attach yourself to people,

234
00:22:46,448 --> 00:22:48,740
people who were hanging
on to some shred of hope

235
00:22:48,742 --> 00:22:50,744
and then you drain
the life out of them?

236
00:22:51,578 --> 00:22:53,330
What kind of a person does that?

237
00:22:57,751 --> 00:22:59,753
I'm coming for you,

238
00:23:01,296 --> 00:23:02,297
"Donovan."

239
00:23:13,934 --> 00:23:17,143
LINDA: That's not
why I called you.

240
00:23:17,145 --> 00:23:18,855
If he's acting, he's good.

241
00:23:20,148 --> 00:23:22,023
You're not here
for your opinions.

242
00:23:22,025 --> 00:23:23,024
I want answers.

243
00:23:23,026 --> 00:23:24,651
It's going to take...

244
00:23:24,653 --> 00:23:27,614
Time. No, no, not an option.

245
00:23:29,449 --> 00:23:31,118
Have you considered
a DNA test?

246
00:23:32,494 --> 00:23:33,495
I...

247
00:23:35,622 --> 00:23:38,500
May I walk you to your car?

248
00:23:56,560 --> 00:23:58,643
I'm having company
over again tonight,

249
00:23:58,645 --> 00:24:01,064
so I'll need you to
stay in your room, okay?

250
00:24:08,488 --> 00:24:09,698
You should eat.

251
00:24:11,324 --> 00:24:12,742
HANK: You should eat.

252
00:24:20,167 --> 00:24:21,916
Sorry if the
vegetarian lifestyle

253
00:24:21,918 --> 00:24:24,169
isn't something you're used to.

254
00:24:24,171 --> 00:24:25,005
It's fine.

255
00:24:28,508 --> 00:24:29,718
Good to hear you talk.

256
00:24:31,011 --> 00:24:32,512
You've already come a long way.

257
00:24:33,388 --> 00:24:34,431
I'm proud of you.

258
00:24:36,850 --> 00:24:38,393
Are you sure you're not hungry?

259
00:24:40,937 --> 00:24:42,564
I'm fine.

260
00:24:57,037 --> 00:24:59,581
Donovan, I haven't been fair.

261
00:25:01,458 --> 00:25:03,875
I've been very
distant, very quiet.

262
00:25:03,877 --> 00:25:04,920
I'm really sorry.

263
00:25:06,087 --> 00:25:08,715
It's good to have you home.

264
00:25:11,801 --> 00:25:14,888
(TENSE MUSIC RISES)

265
00:26:18,702 --> 00:26:22,372
You made a lot of
progress today and your mom,

266
00:26:25,333 --> 00:26:26,710
I think we're gonna make it.

267
00:26:46,229 --> 00:26:49,524
(TENSE DRAMATIC MUSIC)

268
00:27:18,762 --> 00:27:21,846
What happened to you?

269
00:27:21,848 --> 00:27:23,433
What really happened?

270
00:27:35,612 --> 00:27:37,528
Who is this?

271
00:27:37,530 --> 00:27:38,531
(DOOR KNOCKING)

272
00:27:44,287 --> 00:27:46,081
What's all this?

273
00:27:50,460 --> 00:27:51,544
Memories.

274
00:28:02,263 --> 00:28:04,307
May I borrow that?

275
00:28:19,072 --> 00:28:22,409
Would it be alright
if I hugged you?

276
00:28:58,862 --> 00:29:00,113
Thank you.

277
00:29:02,198 --> 00:29:03,700
Good night.

278
00:29:10,498 --> 00:29:13,124
RECORDING: I shouldn't be
talking to you directly.

279
00:29:13,126 --> 00:29:16,169
I'm supposed to report
this kind of thing.

280
00:29:16,171 --> 00:29:20,508
I think you should hear
what Donovan was telling me.

281
00:29:21,634 --> 00:29:25,472
(SOBBING)

282
00:29:33,688 --> 00:29:36,481
(BIRDS CHIRPING)

283
00:29:36,483 --> 00:29:38,985
(TENSE MUSIC)

284
00:30:49,806 --> 00:30:52,475
(DOOR SHUTTING)

285
00:30:59,148 --> 00:31:01,776
(DOOR KNOCKING)

286
00:31:10,159 --> 00:31:12,245
- Hey.
- Hey.

287
00:31:13,413 --> 00:31:16,499
- He can talk.
- Yeah.

288
00:31:18,751 --> 00:31:20,587
Can I come in
just for a minute?

289
00:31:22,422 --> 00:31:25,008
- Dad wouldn't...
- Yeah, I know.

290
00:31:26,342 --> 00:31:28,759
How are you with everything?

291
00:31:28,761 --> 00:31:30,763
I don't even know what to ask.

292
00:31:32,599 --> 00:31:34,432
I'm okay.

293
00:31:34,434 --> 00:31:37,937
I just wanted to see
you and give you this.

294
00:31:41,357 --> 00:31:42,940
It's about you.

295
00:31:42,942 --> 00:31:45,612
So I figured I should be the
one to tell you about it.

296
00:31:46,821 --> 00:31:48,029
I'm gonna to talk to Hank

297
00:31:48,031 --> 00:31:49,949
and see if we can spend
some time together.

298
00:31:51,367 --> 00:31:52,785
Maybe I'll see you tomorrow?

299
00:31:56,789 --> 00:31:58,333
Okay, good night.

300
00:32:02,712 --> 00:32:05,798
(EMOTIONAL PIANO MUSIC)

301
00:32:49,759 --> 00:32:52,510
This is the last
time for a while.

302
00:32:52,512 --> 00:32:55,098
I just need you to keep
quiet in here, okay?

303
00:32:57,392 --> 00:32:58,518
I'll see you in a bit.

304
00:33:05,191 --> 00:33:07,694
(DRAMATIC PIANO MUSIC RISES)

305
00:34:18,765 --> 00:34:21,140
Hey! Do you like 'em?

306
00:34:21,142 --> 00:34:23,517
Wasn't really sure
on the size since,

307
00:34:23,519 --> 00:34:26,479
well, you've grown.
But I wanted to make sure

308
00:34:26,481 --> 00:34:29,815
you had something new,
something that's yours.

309
00:34:29,817 --> 00:34:30,985
We can always get more.

310
00:34:32,779 --> 00:34:35,823
Before I forget, I've got
something else for you.

311
00:34:37,450 --> 00:34:40,828
Not only has calling for
now, but if you ever need us.

312
00:34:44,707 --> 00:34:47,376
So Harper was here, huh?

313
00:34:48,711 --> 00:34:52,048
I saw the book, her book.

314
00:35:00,389 --> 00:35:04,058
Look, I need
you to be careful.

315
00:35:04,060 --> 00:35:05,978
Just keep it hidden.

316
00:35:07,230 --> 00:35:08,813
I just wanna remember.

317
00:35:08,815 --> 00:35:09,982
We all do.

318
00:35:11,025 --> 00:35:15,655
It's just, it's the reason
your mom kicked Harper out.

319
00:35:17,323 --> 00:35:20,743
- Harper was...
- Here, yeah, two years.

320
00:35:23,412 --> 00:35:24,705
It's not my story to tell.

321
00:35:26,082 --> 00:35:31,087
It got contentious between them.

322
00:35:31,671 --> 00:35:34,090
Your mom asked me
to keep Harper away.

323
00:35:37,552 --> 00:35:39,009
(DOOR KNOCKING)

324
00:35:39,011 --> 00:35:39,846
I'll get it.

325
00:35:51,607 --> 00:35:53,357
(YELLING)

326
00:35:53,359 --> 00:35:55,401
SCHLEICHER: I wanted to
check back in with Donovan

327
00:35:55,403 --> 00:35:56,902
I've already spoken to Linda.

328
00:35:56,904 --> 00:35:58,362
HANK: Well then you'd be
come back when she's home.

329
00:35:58,364 --> 00:36:00,072
SCHLEICHER: Look everything
is gonna go a lot easier

330
00:36:00,074 --> 00:36:03,742
if I have your full
cooperation, Hank, for Donovan.

331
00:36:03,744 --> 00:36:05,286
HANK: Look,
just keep it quick.

332
00:36:05,288 --> 00:36:07,204
Hey, you'll hardly
know I was here.

333
00:36:07,206 --> 00:36:08,455
How are you doing Donovan?

334
00:36:08,457 --> 00:36:10,457
Can I talk to you
for a few minutes?

335
00:36:10,459 --> 00:36:15,464
New look, new family, new life.

336
00:36:17,925 --> 00:36:19,051
You seem pretty well.

337
00:36:19,886 --> 00:36:21,552
I'm all right, thanks.

338
00:36:21,554 --> 00:36:24,972
Okay, well I'd like to pick
up where we left off, alright?

339
00:36:24,974 --> 00:36:28,475
We'll keep it simple,
although I would appreciate it

340
00:36:28,477 --> 00:36:31,439
if you gave me more than just
one word answers this time

341
00:36:32,273 --> 00:36:34,231
- I can do that.
- Okay.

342
00:36:34,233 --> 00:36:37,067
Now, the day that you were
taken, you mentioned a woman.

343
00:36:37,069 --> 00:36:39,570
Short, white skin.

344
00:36:39,572 --> 00:36:40,990
Anything else you wanna add?

345
00:36:44,118 --> 00:36:47,328
- It wasn't a woman.
- Really?

346
00:36:47,330 --> 00:36:48,164
I lied.

347
00:36:49,165 --> 00:36:50,748
It was a man.

348
00:36:50,750 --> 00:36:51,751
Tell me about him.

349
00:36:55,338 --> 00:36:59,926
He had dark hair, a dimple,

350
00:37:01,761 --> 00:37:05,512
- real tall.
- Tall, dark hair, dimple.

351
00:37:05,514 --> 00:37:06,349
Anything else?

352
00:37:07,767 --> 00:37:10,353
He had a nice suit on.

353
00:37:12,855 --> 00:37:13,812
He had a gun.

354
00:37:13,814 --> 00:37:15,024
A nice suit and a gun.

355
00:37:16,359 --> 00:37:18,027
Okay, would you
like to add to that?

356
00:37:20,780 --> 00:37:23,364
- No.
- Come on, he was just a kid.

357
00:37:23,366 --> 00:37:24,325
I was scared.

358
00:37:25,451 --> 00:37:27,534
But you're safe now, right?

359
00:37:27,536 --> 00:37:28,955
I mean, don't you feel safe?

360
00:37:30,790 --> 00:37:33,125
The kidnapping,
walk me through it.

361
00:37:34,377 --> 00:37:35,542
What?

362
00:37:35,544 --> 00:37:36,796
The kidnapping
where were you?

363
00:37:42,218 --> 00:37:43,511
The beach.

364
00:37:47,890 --> 00:37:50,977
Okay, would you like to
elaborate on that further?

365
00:37:51,978 --> 00:37:56,480
I can't remember.

366
00:37:56,482 --> 00:38:00,361
But you are sure you were
taken at the beach, right?

367
00:38:01,696 --> 00:38:04,238
I think so.

368
00:38:04,240 --> 00:38:09,036
Okay, because I have your
mother stating on record

369
00:38:10,162 --> 00:38:12,329
that you were
taken at the house.

370
00:38:12,331 --> 00:38:14,873
Now you lied to me
about who took you

371
00:38:14,875 --> 00:38:17,084
and now you're lying to me
about where they took you.

372
00:38:17,086 --> 00:38:20,339
- I ran away.
- Excuse me.

373
00:38:21,841 --> 00:38:24,510
I ran away to the beach.

374
00:38:25,678 --> 00:38:26,885
That's where the man took me.

375
00:38:26,887 --> 00:38:28,055
Enough!

376
00:38:29,223 --> 00:38:30,264
Now Look, you've
got a description.

377
00:38:30,266 --> 00:38:31,684
Leave us alone.

378
00:38:32,518 --> 00:38:34,020
Go find who did this.

379
00:38:37,732 --> 00:38:38,733
(RECORDER BEEPS)

380
00:38:42,611 --> 00:38:44,572
It shouldn't be long now.

381
00:38:51,954 --> 00:38:53,620
HANK: He had no right.

382
00:38:53,622 --> 00:38:55,414
- I should have...
- It's fine.

383
00:38:55,416 --> 00:38:56,248
It's fine.

384
00:38:56,250 --> 00:38:57,084
I'm okay.

385
00:38:57,918 --> 00:39:01,422
Look, I'll sort
it out with Linda.

386
00:39:04,091 --> 00:39:05,801
I wanna go to my room.

387
00:39:06,802 --> 00:39:11,265
Oh, I thought we'd
go do something fun.

388
00:39:15,895 --> 00:39:16,729
Maybe later.

389
00:39:40,920 --> 00:39:43,589
(DOOR KNOCKING)

390
00:39:52,139 --> 00:39:53,432
How you holding up?

391
00:39:55,017 --> 00:39:56,644
- I'm good.
- Good.

392
00:39:57,686 --> 00:40:00,437
- Your parents?
- They're doing better.

393
00:40:00,439 --> 00:40:02,358
Good, great even.

394
00:40:04,527 --> 00:40:06,612
You packing or what?

395
00:40:08,864 --> 00:40:12,368
Just trying to remember.

396
00:40:13,994 --> 00:40:14,829
You read it?

397
00:40:16,372 --> 00:40:18,791
- How much?
- All of it.

398
00:40:21,293 --> 00:40:23,712
I guess you probably
have some questions then.

399
00:40:24,463 --> 00:40:25,297
A few.

400
00:40:26,632 --> 00:40:29,135
Hey, you wanna go somewhere?

401
00:40:33,973 --> 00:40:36,642
(DOOR SHUTTING)

402
00:40:39,645 --> 00:40:40,646
(DISTANT OCEAN)

403
00:40:55,161 --> 00:40:57,995
(LAUGHING)

404
00:40:57,997 --> 00:40:59,246
I don't know if you remember,

405
00:40:59,248 --> 00:41:01,667
but we used to hang
out here all the time.

406
00:41:03,002 --> 00:41:05,504
I still come here when
I'm feeling shitty.

407
00:41:07,673 --> 00:41:10,716
I'm really happy
you're doing well.

408
00:41:10,718 --> 00:41:11,552
You said that.

409
00:41:13,596 --> 00:41:15,431
So the book,

410
00:41:16,891 --> 00:41:21,602
I was trying to tell an old
story with a new perspective.

411
00:41:21,604 --> 00:41:24,271
It's just, no one
really talks about

412
00:41:24,273 --> 00:41:25,858
the people that get left behind.

413
00:41:28,194 --> 00:41:30,110
Did I leave you behind?

414
00:41:30,112 --> 00:41:32,615
No! Well, not exactly.

415
00:41:34,408 --> 00:41:37,117
When someone dies
or goes missing,

416
00:41:37,119 --> 00:41:38,368
the people who are close to them

417
00:41:38,370 --> 00:41:41,874
just have to continue
on, you know?

418
00:41:45,586 --> 00:41:47,794
I wish I could have been here.

419
00:41:47,796 --> 00:41:50,547
That's sweet but you read it.

420
00:41:50,549 --> 00:41:54,053
It was just an example
of dealing with grief.

421
00:41:54,929 --> 00:41:56,303
Try not to roll your eyes.

422
00:41:56,305 --> 00:42:00,265
It was just a way to
process everything.

423
00:42:00,267 --> 00:42:01,477
Narrative therapy.

424
00:42:03,437 --> 00:42:08,150
- But Mom didn't like it.
- No, not even a little bit.

425
00:42:10,778 --> 00:42:12,819
I moved out when I was 16

426
00:42:12,821 --> 00:42:15,324
and Hank let me stay at
the house for a while.

427
00:42:16,450 --> 00:42:19,453
The book ruined everything.

428
00:42:20,579 --> 00:42:21,664
She was furious.

429
00:42:23,249 --> 00:42:24,915
- I'm sorry.
- Nah.

430
00:42:24,917 --> 00:42:27,169
It's how I got my job
at the Coastal Weekly.

431
00:42:29,505 --> 00:42:31,340
How are your parents
handling it all?

432
00:42:34,468 --> 00:42:35,970
Dad's doing better than Mom.

433
00:42:37,012 --> 00:42:38,472
That's not a surprise.

434
00:42:42,977 --> 00:42:44,520
Have you told anyone?

435
00:42:47,106 --> 00:42:50,691
The whole town went looking
for you when you disappeared.

436
00:42:50,693 --> 00:42:53,527
They'd wanna know you survived.

437
00:42:53,529 --> 00:42:55,823
It'd be like closure.

438
00:42:57,199 --> 00:42:59,032
I could write a story.

439
00:42:59,034 --> 00:43:02,454
Dad says I shouldn't
tell anybody.

440
00:43:03,289 --> 00:43:05,541
Didn't want you to
hang out with me either.

441
00:43:10,212 --> 00:43:12,504
- All right.
- Cool.

442
00:43:12,506 --> 00:43:15,384
I can probably have something
printed for tomorrow.

443
00:43:18,554 --> 00:43:23,223
- So what do I do now?
- I'll handle it.

444
00:43:23,225 --> 00:43:24,226
Don't worry.

445
00:43:25,227 --> 00:43:28,314
(TENSE PIANO MUSIC)

446
00:44:02,848 --> 00:44:05,517
(WATER FLOWING)

447
00:45:26,640 --> 00:45:29,184
(SOFT PIANO MUSIC)

448
00:46:22,654 --> 00:46:25,365
(BIRDS CHIRPING)

449
00:46:38,420 --> 00:46:41,882
(TENSE MUSIC RISES)

450
00:46:49,223 --> 00:46:50,599
Dad?

451
00:46:53,685 --> 00:46:54,895
Donovan.

452
00:47:02,903 --> 00:47:04,446
Where were you?

453
00:47:06,198 --> 00:47:07,616
Where were you!

454
00:47:09,743 --> 00:47:10,951
With Harper.

455
00:47:10,953 --> 00:47:11,954
Oh.

456
00:47:13,205 --> 00:47:14,623
With Harper.

457
00:47:19,628 --> 00:47:22,963
I told you and her,

458
00:47:22,965 --> 00:47:24,800
you can't just run
away like that.

459
00:47:28,220 --> 00:47:29,596
I just wanted to see her.

460
00:47:30,597 --> 00:47:31,807
So you disappear on me?

461
00:47:32,266 --> 00:47:33,267
Hm?

462
00:47:34,101 --> 00:47:34,935
No.

463
00:47:35,811 --> 00:47:37,938
Think about what was
going on in my head.

464
00:47:39,439 --> 00:47:44,236
My son, who's been missing
for a decade, just disappears.

465
00:47:46,238 --> 00:47:47,239
I'm sorry.

466
00:47:49,741 --> 00:47:50,742
Maybe it's me.

467
00:47:52,411 --> 00:47:55,414
You're an adult now and I'm
still treating you like a kid.

468
00:47:57,416 --> 00:47:58,915
You can make your own decisions,

469
00:47:58,917 --> 00:48:02,754
but I'm just trying to
do what's best for you.

470
00:48:04,423 --> 00:48:05,632
I know.

471
00:48:07,175 --> 00:48:08,427
I'm sorry.

472
00:48:09,511 --> 00:48:11,303
(SOBBING)

473
00:48:11,305 --> 00:48:13,932
(SOFT PIANO MUSIC)

474
00:48:20,188 --> 00:48:21,189
Dad...

475
00:48:23,108 --> 00:48:27,821
Can we have breakfast
as a family, tomorrow?

476
00:48:29,448 --> 00:48:31,950
Sure, of course.

477
00:48:34,286 --> 00:48:36,830
I'll talk to your mom
when she gets home.

478
00:48:38,665 --> 00:48:43,211
- And Harper.
- Why?

479
00:48:46,048 --> 00:48:47,299
She's family.

480
00:48:51,219 --> 00:48:52,054
Okay.

481
00:48:54,222 --> 00:48:57,225
I'll see what I can do.

482
00:49:25,837 --> 00:49:28,924
(TENSE PIANO MUSIC)

483
00:49:51,071 --> 00:49:53,238
FEMALE VOICE : Okay, this is
on, right?

484
00:49:53,240 --> 00:49:54,241
Okay, great.

485
00:49:55,534 --> 00:49:57,367
This is Ms. K.

486
00:49:57,369 --> 00:49:59,119
I shouldn't be talking
to you directly.

487
00:49:59,121 --> 00:50:01,371
I'm supposed to report
this kind of thing

488
00:50:01,373 --> 00:50:04,124
but I really think
you should hear

489
00:50:04,126 --> 00:50:06,044
what Donovan's been telling me.

490
00:50:06,545 --> 00:50:10,255
Donovan, can you tell me
what you just said again?

491
00:50:10,257 --> 00:50:11,216
YOUNG DONOVAN: Huh?

492
00:50:12,467 --> 00:50:16,302
You just told me, what was it
that you wanted to tell me?

493
00:50:16,304 --> 00:50:17,137
I don't know.

494
00:50:17,139 --> 00:50:18,722
I'm counting the lights.

495
00:50:18,724 --> 00:50:21,975
MS. K: Donovan,
I need you to focus.

496
00:50:21,977 --> 00:50:25,437
What did you tell
me about the bath?

497
00:50:25,439 --> 00:50:26,980
YOUNG DONOVAN: Oh the bath?

498
00:50:26,982 --> 00:50:29,315
My mum said me she wanted
to push me under the water.

499
00:50:29,317 --> 00:50:30,984
MS. K: Okay and was that it?

500
00:50:30,986 --> 00:50:32,569
YOUNG DONOVAN: She
said she never wanted

501
00:50:32,571 --> 00:50:34,112
to let me back up.

502
00:50:34,114 --> 00:50:36,158
I can hold my breath
for this many.

503
00:50:37,325 --> 00:50:39,576
MS. K: Mrs.
Reid, I understand

504
00:50:39,578 --> 00:50:42,328
that Donovan has an
active imagination

505
00:50:42,330 --> 00:50:44,414
but I don't know how
to react to this.

506
00:50:44,416 --> 00:50:46,291
When you and I are
in a room together,

507
00:50:46,293 --> 00:50:49,127
I can never get him
to say these things.

508
00:50:49,129 --> 00:50:52,756
I'd like you to come in tomorrow
so we can talk about this.

509
00:50:52,758 --> 00:50:57,010
Otherwise, I have to call
Child Protective Services,

510
00:50:57,012 --> 00:50:58,180
I'm sorry.

511
00:51:06,438 --> 00:51:09,524
(DOOR KNOCKING)

512
00:51:13,695 --> 00:51:14,529
Michael.

513
00:51:20,994 --> 00:51:23,830
I'm sorry that it
has to be like this.

514
00:51:25,957 --> 00:51:28,126
I know that it's frustrating.

515
00:51:31,797 --> 00:51:34,216
(TENSE MUSIC)

516
00:51:37,886 --> 00:51:39,054
What did you do?

517
00:51:41,890 --> 00:51:43,807
Where did you go?

518
00:51:43,809 --> 00:51:45,892
I told you never to
leave this house.

519
00:51:45,894 --> 00:51:47,813
I'm trying to protect you.

520
00:51:49,815 --> 00:51:52,148
If I ever catch you
outside this house again,

521
00:51:52,150 --> 00:51:53,817
you won't be welcome back.

522
00:51:53,819 --> 00:51:55,487
Do you understand?

523
00:52:08,416 --> 00:52:09,417
Shit!

524
00:52:10,502 --> 00:52:12,754
What are you doing to me?

525
00:52:15,006 --> 00:52:16,216
You're not Donovan.

526
00:52:19,845 --> 00:52:20,679
This proves it.

527
00:52:24,766 --> 00:52:25,600
Careful.

528
00:52:33,108 --> 00:52:37,193
Now, this test only
takes 24 hours,

529
00:52:37,195 --> 00:52:43,285
so if you're smart, you
won't be here tomorrow.

530
00:52:50,876 --> 00:52:53,962
(MUSIC INTENSIFIES)

531
00:53:12,814 --> 00:53:15,317

(DRILL ROARING)

533
00:53:33,627 --> 00:53:36,338
(BIRDS CHIRPING)

534
00:53:50,268 --> 00:53:53,353
I hope you can forgive me

535
00:53:53,355 --> 00:53:56,524
for taking everything
you left behind.

536
00:53:57,525 --> 00:54:00,111
(WISTFUL MUSIC)

537
00:54:42,570 --> 00:54:45,907
(WATER WAVES SPLASHING)

538
00:54:49,577 --> 00:54:50,412
Hey.

539
00:54:52,330 --> 00:54:53,164
Hey.

540
00:54:55,542 --> 00:54:56,751
What you doing out here?

541
00:54:58,503 --> 00:55:00,169
I shouldn't be here.

542
00:55:00,171 --> 00:55:01,506
I'm thinking about leaving.

543
00:55:05,010 --> 00:55:06,759
I wouldn't blame you.

544
00:55:06,761 --> 00:55:08,594
It's been a hard couple
of days last night,

545
00:55:08,596 --> 00:55:10,557
you saw me at my worst.

546
00:55:15,020 --> 00:55:16,688
Hadn't had a drink
in nine years.

547
00:55:18,857 --> 00:55:20,358
Your mom convinced me to stop.

548
00:55:24,904 --> 00:55:28,533
I keep waiting to see
the son I recognize.

549
00:55:33,413 --> 00:55:36,374
I'm never getting
him back, am I?

550
00:55:38,918 --> 00:55:39,878
I don't know.

551
00:55:49,721 --> 00:55:53,224
Look, if you wanna
leave, you can leave.

552
00:55:54,476 --> 00:55:55,810
I really hope you'll stay.

553
00:56:01,900 --> 00:56:03,983
I love you.

554
00:56:03,985 --> 00:56:04,903
I love you too.

555
00:56:06,738 --> 00:56:09,324
Hey, how about you
stay for breakfast.

556
00:56:11,826 --> 00:56:12,660
Yeah.

557
00:56:13,745 --> 00:56:16,245
- Harper coming?
- Yeah, yeah.

558
00:56:16,247 --> 00:56:17,082
She's excited.

559
00:56:19,417 --> 00:56:20,919
You really like her, don't you?

560
00:56:22,128 --> 00:56:23,920
Yeah.

561
00:56:23,922 --> 00:56:26,089
Well, your mother will just
have to make some compromises

562
00:56:26,091 --> 00:56:27,423
like the rest of us.

563
00:56:27,425 --> 00:56:29,010
Come on, let's get started.

564
00:56:47,362 --> 00:56:50,532
Honey, you almost
ready for breakfast?

565
00:56:52,534 --> 00:56:53,952
Harper will be here soon.

566
00:56:55,662 --> 00:56:56,955
She's coming here?

567
00:56:58,706 --> 00:57:00,625
Your son asked
me to invite her.

568
00:57:01,292 --> 00:57:03,126
We'll I've got work.

569
00:57:03,128 --> 00:57:06,796
Linda, we're blessed
to have our son back.

570
00:57:06,798 --> 00:57:09,465
This morning he told me he
was thinking about leaving.

571
00:57:09,467 --> 00:57:11,302
Hell, I don't blame him.

572
00:57:12,345 --> 00:57:13,555
Oh...

573
00:57:14,347 --> 00:57:16,808
If he's thinking
of running away,

574
00:57:18,143 --> 00:57:20,812
maybe a good family breakfast
is just what we need.

575
00:57:21,479 --> 00:57:24,689
With Harper?
(DOOR KNOCKS)

576
00:57:24,691 --> 00:57:27,152
- Sure.
- Thank you.

577
00:57:28,319 --> 00:57:30,155
That saves me one
awkward conversation.

578
00:57:36,327 --> 00:57:40,079
I drove three hours last
night to drop that sample off.

579
00:57:40,081 --> 00:57:42,667
The results will be back
as early as this afternoon.

580
00:57:46,546 --> 00:57:48,214
You still have a few hours.

581
00:58:21,748 --> 00:58:24,584
I'll be out back,
don't go anywhere, okay?

582
00:58:25,752 --> 00:58:28,211
- I wanna go.
- You can't.

583
00:58:28,213 --> 00:58:32,300
- I already told you.
- I wanna go outside.

584
00:58:34,636 --> 00:58:37,136
Don't make this
more difficult.

585
00:58:37,138 --> 00:58:37,972
Please.

586
00:58:55,740 --> 00:58:57,406
Not in a million
years did I think

587
00:58:57,408 --> 00:58:59,575
I'd be sitting here with
all of you like this.

588
00:58:59,577 --> 00:59:02,997
It's like a dream,
like you never left.

589
00:59:05,792 --> 00:59:07,126
Your mother feels the same.

590
00:59:10,296 --> 00:59:16,594
It's been hard, hasn't it Linda?

591
00:59:19,264 --> 00:59:23,474
Yes, yes. Donovan,

592
00:59:23,476 --> 00:59:27,188
When you went missing,
everyone wanted to help

593
00:59:28,481 --> 00:59:30,356
and hours, days, weeks passed

594
00:59:30,358 --> 00:59:31,859
nobody wanted to help then.

595
00:59:32,860 --> 00:59:34,694
Our families disappeared.

596
00:59:34,696 --> 00:59:37,782
Reporters were sucking
stories out of us.

597
00:59:38,866 --> 00:59:42,203
Trust, God trust.

598
00:59:44,289 --> 00:59:47,208
A foreign concept
in a distant land.

599
00:59:53,339 --> 00:59:55,798
But now we have our son back.

600
00:59:55,800 --> 00:59:57,010
Thank you, Donovan,

601
00:59:57,885 --> 01:00:01,889
for being the one person
this family can trust.

602
01:00:03,891 --> 01:00:05,977
Thank you, Linda.

603
01:00:06,519 --> 01:00:07,520
Mmmm

604
01:00:08,563 --> 01:00:11,314
Why are you here?

605
01:00:11,316 --> 01:00:13,065
For him, obviously.

606
01:00:13,067 --> 01:00:14,984
- For your career, maybe.
- Excuse me.

607
01:00:14,986 --> 01:00:15,653
Linda.

608
01:00:16,154 --> 01:00:17,403
No, she took the hardest
moments of our lives

609
01:00:17,405 --> 01:00:19,155
and used them to get ahead.

610
01:00:19,157 --> 01:00:20,573
That book is the only
reason she became

611
01:00:20,575 --> 01:00:22,408
a sorry excuse for a journalist.

612
01:00:22,410 --> 01:00:24,493
That book helped
me process my grief.

613
01:00:24,495 --> 01:00:25,661
You've used us.

614
01:00:25,663 --> 01:00:27,246
Now look, we're
all here for Donovan.

615
01:00:27,248 --> 01:00:28,247
Are we?

616
01:00:28,249 --> 01:00:30,335
- What are you saying?
- Stop!

617
01:00:39,010 --> 01:00:40,595
Thank you for breakfast honey.

618
01:00:40,887 --> 01:00:43,014
Please stay, please.

619
01:00:44,724 --> 01:00:46,432
Your son is here.

620
01:00:46,434 --> 01:00:48,684
This breakfast is
important to him.

621
01:00:48,686 --> 01:00:52,190
Well, dinner will be
far more interesting.

622
01:00:53,107 --> 01:00:54,692
The test results will be ready.

623
01:00:55,860 --> 01:00:59,111
- What test?
- The DNA test.

624
01:00:59,113 --> 01:01:02,116
That detective was bothering
me about it, insisting even.

625
01:01:02,950 --> 01:01:06,118
There's no harm in
knowing for certain.

626
01:01:06,120 --> 01:01:07,119
His blood, how did you...

627
01:01:07,121 --> 01:01:08,788
It was just a small sample.

628
01:01:08,790 --> 01:01:10,039
Donovan didn't give
me any trouble.

629
01:01:10,041 --> 01:01:10,958
Did you sweetie?

630
01:01:12,460 --> 01:01:13,751
Linda, we need
to talk about this.

631
01:01:13,753 --> 01:01:17,882
No, we can celebrate
the good news tonight.

632
01:01:20,593 --> 01:01:23,638
(FOOTSTEPS STOMPING)

633
01:01:34,565 --> 01:01:35,940
Your mother knows best.

634
01:01:35,942 --> 01:01:38,567
So you're okay
with what she did.

635
01:01:38,569 --> 01:01:41,489
Making him take a DNA test
without talking to you about it.

636
01:01:42,824 --> 01:01:45,408
People deal with
grief differently.

637
01:01:45,410 --> 01:01:47,243
You wrote a book on yours.

638
01:01:47,245 --> 01:01:49,288
That was your way, this is hers.

639
01:01:49,789 --> 01:01:50,913
LINDA: Hank.

640
01:01:50,915 --> 01:01:51,916
(FOOTSTEPS STOMPING)

641
01:01:55,420 --> 01:01:58,421
What the hell is this?

642
01:01:58,423 --> 01:02:00,840
- Why would you do this?
- Let me explain.

643
01:02:00,842 --> 01:02:02,135
I gave her permission.

644
01:02:03,428 --> 01:02:05,469
- It's my life.
- No, it's not.

645
01:02:05,471 --> 01:02:06,305
Why would you?

646
01:02:07,098 --> 01:02:07,930
This is not okay.

647
01:02:07,932 --> 01:02:09,434
Out, now.

648
01:02:18,943 --> 01:02:22,945
I hope you're
happy, both of you.

649
01:02:22,947 --> 01:02:24,822
- Linda, we can...
- No, we can talk later.

650
01:02:24,824 --> 01:02:27,160
We need to deal
with this as a family.

651
01:02:40,131 --> 01:02:42,800
(PHONE RINGING)

652
01:02:54,562 --> 01:02:56,061
Hello.

653
01:02:56,063 --> 01:02:58,314
DARYLL: Hi, this is Daryll
with TruMatch DNA Services.

654
01:02:58,316 --> 01:03:00,985
I was just calling to let you
know that we've run the test.

655
01:03:04,071 --> 01:03:05,656
Hello, is someone there?

656
01:03:07,074 --> 01:03:08,991
This is Hank Reid.

657
01:03:08,993 --> 01:03:10,409
DARYLL: Just
wanted to let you know

658
01:03:10,411 --> 01:03:13,329
we'll be emailing you the
results in the next hour or so.

659
01:03:13,331 --> 01:03:15,875
I'll be sure to give you a
call once we've sent them.

660
01:03:28,930 --> 01:03:31,766
(WAVES SPLASHING)

661
01:03:42,860 --> 01:03:43,736
Harper?

662
01:03:45,112 --> 01:03:46,405
Why are you here?

663
01:03:48,199 --> 01:03:50,576
- Are you alright?
- No.

664
01:03:53,704 --> 01:03:55,706
Listen, I can't
stay here anymore.

665
01:03:56,958 --> 01:04:00,876
- Did they kick you out?
- No.

666
01:04:00,878 --> 01:04:02,213
Then you should go back.

667
01:04:03,923 --> 01:04:05,047
It's not safe.

668
01:04:05,049 --> 01:04:07,132
The world isn't safe, Donovan.

669
01:04:07,134 --> 01:04:08,719
You know that better than most.

670
01:04:09,971 --> 01:04:10,972
I can't go back.

671
01:04:13,432 --> 01:04:16,892
After everything,
you're just gonna run?

672
01:04:16,894 --> 01:04:21,107
- Come with me.
- Come with you.

673
01:04:22,233 --> 01:04:24,318
Harper, I love you.

674
01:04:29,991 --> 01:04:33,075
Linda was talking
about a DNA test.

675
01:04:33,077 --> 01:04:34,577
Harper...

676
01:04:34,579 --> 01:04:36,954
And 10 minutes later
you're ready to run away.

677
01:04:36,956 --> 01:04:37,915
I...

678
01:04:40,501 --> 01:04:42,918
- Please.
- I'm gonna call 911

679
01:04:42,920 --> 01:04:45,254
but first, I'm gonna give
you a chance to explain

680
01:04:45,256 --> 01:04:46,797
right here, right now.

681
01:04:46,799 --> 01:04:48,926
Please, don't do this.

682
01:04:49,969 --> 01:04:51,470
Are you Donovan Reid?

683
01:04:55,266 --> 01:04:56,434
No.

684
01:04:57,351 --> 01:04:59,310
You are a piece of shit.

685
01:04:59,312 --> 01:05:00,938
I thought I got him back.

686
01:05:01,814 --> 01:05:03,441
- I didn't...
- You didn't what?

687
01:05:04,150 --> 01:05:07,361
I didn't mean to hurt anybody.

688
01:05:08,154 --> 01:05:11,989
I never had a family,
people that love me.

689
01:05:11,991 --> 01:05:13,699
What about Hank and Linda?

690
01:05:13,701 --> 01:05:16,285
They thought they
got their son back.

691
01:05:16,287 --> 01:05:19,872
- And they were happy.
- Because of a lie.

692
01:05:19,874 --> 01:05:21,792
What's your real name?

693
01:05:24,295 --> 01:05:25,379
It's Michael.

694
01:05:26,964 --> 01:05:28,549
Why did you lie to us?

695
01:05:32,637 --> 01:05:34,639
- I was a prisoner.
- Please.

696
01:05:36,807 --> 01:05:38,682
There were bars on my window.

697
01:05:38,684 --> 01:05:40,227
I couldn't even leave my room.

698
01:05:41,187 --> 01:05:43,022
I found Donovan in
an old newspaper.

699
01:05:44,815 --> 01:05:49,153
Donovan's not
missing, he's dead.

700
01:05:50,905 --> 01:05:54,990
- Linda killed him.
- Stop lying.

701
01:05:54,992 --> 01:05:56,535
I found an old recording.

702
01:05:58,496 --> 01:06:01,165
Donovan said his mom
tried to drown him.

703
01:06:02,249 --> 01:06:03,584
I'm gonna call the cops.

704
01:06:06,504 --> 01:06:07,338
Harper.

705
01:06:27,024 --> 01:06:29,276
Be sure to eat up.

706
01:06:33,406 --> 01:06:34,240
Michael.

707
01:06:35,700 --> 01:06:37,118
I'm wanna go to the garden.

708
01:06:39,203 --> 01:06:41,580
- Not now, eat your food.
- No.

709
01:06:47,795 --> 01:06:49,046
Okay, alright.

710
01:06:51,424 --> 01:06:52,466
You can come with me.

711
01:06:55,261 --> 01:06:56,303
You wanna go now?

712
01:06:59,223 --> 01:07:00,224
Let's go.

713
01:07:16,991 --> 01:07:20,077
(SOFT PIANO MUSIC)

714
01:08:45,496 --> 01:08:48,916
(PHONE VIBRATING)

715
01:08:54,505 --> 01:08:57,508
SCHLEICHER: Hello, hello?!

716
01:08:58,551 --> 01:09:00,092
I don't know what to do.

717
01:09:00,094 --> 01:09:01,760
SCHLEICHER: Good, Hank
gave me the right number.

718
01:09:01,762 --> 01:09:03,887
I need you to listen.

719
01:09:03,889 --> 01:09:05,766
Just listen.

720
01:09:08,352 --> 01:09:09,854
I didn't know what I was doing.

721
01:09:11,856 --> 01:09:13,607
But I'm gone now.

722
01:09:15,025 --> 01:09:16,233
I'm not coming back.

723
01:09:16,235 --> 01:09:17,442
SCHLEICHER: Kid, you
don't wanna do that.

724
01:09:17,444 --> 01:09:18,777
Look, I get it.

725
01:09:18,779 --> 01:09:20,028
You're scared.

726
01:09:20,030 --> 01:09:22,739
I can help you, but you
need to get down here.

727
01:09:22,741 --> 01:09:23,574
Can you do that for me?

728
01:09:23,576 --> 01:09:25,033
Look, I can meet you.

729
01:09:25,035 --> 01:09:25,951
I can pick you up.

730
01:09:25,953 --> 01:09:26,869
Everything's gonna be fine.

731
01:09:26,871 --> 01:09:28,537
Where are you?

732
01:09:28,539 --> 01:09:29,373
Hello?

733
01:09:30,708 --> 01:09:32,791
I can't help you if
you don't talk to me.

734
01:09:32,793 --> 01:09:34,084
Talk to me.

735
01:09:34,086 --> 01:09:36,422
You've got to trust me, kid.

736
01:09:44,096 --> 01:09:45,472
Don't move.

737
01:09:50,311 --> 01:09:52,104
Why are you here?

738
01:09:53,480 --> 01:09:54,940
Why are you here?

739
01:09:59,737 --> 01:10:01,322
We got the blood test back.

740
01:10:07,912 --> 01:10:11,332
So you know. I'm not him.

741
01:10:12,833 --> 01:10:13,834
I'm not Donovan.

742
01:10:16,837 --> 01:10:18,255
No, you're Donovan.

743
01:10:21,300 --> 01:10:24,678
Donovan Michael Reid.

744
01:10:25,763 --> 01:10:28,349
(EMOTIONAL PIANO MUSIC)

745
01:10:29,350 --> 01:10:31,934
You're supposed to fall
in love with your child

746
01:10:31,936 --> 01:10:33,354
the moment they're born.

747
01:10:37,191 --> 01:10:40,444
I used to tell myself it
was just taking longer,

748
01:10:42,154 --> 01:10:45,030
but it never happened,
it never came.

749
01:10:45,032 --> 01:10:48,327
I was indifferent.

750
01:10:51,163 --> 01:10:52,498
But you got older.

751
01:10:55,709 --> 01:11:01,173
I hated you more than
I've ever hated anyone.

752
01:11:02,383 --> 01:11:06,011
It was torture every single day.

753
01:11:08,472 --> 01:11:13,352
It built, a feeling
right behind my eyes.

754
01:11:17,147 --> 01:11:19,358
Hollowness.

755
01:11:21,068 --> 01:11:24,697
Empty anger.

756
01:11:27,491 --> 01:11:28,492
Then...

757
01:11:32,329 --> 01:11:35,499
We went to the beach, just us.

758
01:11:40,045 --> 01:11:41,588
You tried to drown me.

759
01:11:43,048 --> 01:11:45,676
So how are you here?

760
01:11:55,894 --> 01:11:58,605
Ellen, she saved me.

761
01:12:07,031 --> 01:12:07,948
You lived here?

762
01:12:10,409 --> 01:12:11,243
Yes.

763
01:12:13,579 --> 01:12:15,247
Do you know who Ellen is?

764
01:12:17,041 --> 01:12:19,710
She's my mother,
your grandmother.

765
01:12:23,047 --> 01:12:23,964
Where is she?

766
01:12:30,220 --> 01:12:31,722
(TENSE MUSIC)

767
01:12:31,764 --> 01:12:34,641
Michael! Michael!

768
01:12:44,818 --> 01:12:46,820
Michael, please come back.

769
01:12:47,738 --> 01:12:49,404
I'll let you out more,
anything you want.

770
01:12:49,406 --> 01:12:50,240
Just come back.

771
01:12:51,825 --> 01:12:52,659
Michael.

772
01:12:53,827 --> 01:12:54,661
Michael!

773
01:12:54,912 --> 01:12:56,161
(SCREAMING)
(FALLING)

774
01:12:56,163 --> 01:12:57,164
(CRUNCH)

775
01:13:01,960 --> 01:13:06,924
- Donovan, where is she?
- Ellen's dead.

776
01:13:07,800 --> 01:13:08,592
She's dead.

777
01:13:09,676 --> 01:13:10,801
I don't believe you.

778
01:13:10,803 --> 01:13:15,516
- I can show you.
- You're a liar.

779
01:13:17,184 --> 01:13:18,018
I'm not.

780
01:13:20,771 --> 01:13:24,358
Take me to her
then, right now.

781
01:13:43,836 --> 01:13:45,544
No. Where are you taking me?

782
01:13:45,546 --> 01:13:47,045
- Where is she?
- SCHLEICHER: Linda Reid!

783
01:13:47,047 --> 01:13:49,047
I need you to drop
your weapon, Linda.

784
01:13:49,049 --> 01:13:51,301
I need you to listen to me.

785
01:13:52,970 --> 01:13:55,305
Please, please.

786
01:13:56,557 --> 01:14:00,642
- My mom...
- Linda, Linda, listen.

787
01:14:00,644 --> 01:14:03,228
You don't have to do this.

788
01:14:03,230 --> 01:14:04,646
I can help you.

789
01:14:04,648 --> 01:14:08,233
You can start over,
a brand new life.

790
01:14:08,235 --> 01:14:11,903
Linda please, please look at me.

791
01:14:11,905 --> 01:14:15,240
I need you to drop the weapon.

792
01:14:15,242 --> 01:14:16,076
Linda.

793
01:14:23,041 --> 01:14:23,917
Linda please.

794
01:14:26,837 --> 01:14:29,756
(SOFT PIANO MUSIC)

795
01:14:51,528 --> 01:14:56,072
What do we do?

796
01:14:56,074 --> 01:14:57,242
What do we do?

797
01:15:01,622 --> 01:15:03,749
You can't go back to her.

798
01:15:06,126 --> 01:15:07,586
You will stay here.

799
01:15:12,883 --> 01:15:14,218
You'll stay here, Michael.

800
01:15:19,473 --> 01:15:22,726
Michael is a lovely name.

801
01:15:28,941 --> 01:15:30,442
You're my Michael.

802
01:15:33,070 --> 01:15:34,488
My sweet Michael.

803
01:15:36,114 --> 01:15:38,408
(EMOTIONAL MUSIC SWELLS)

804
01:16:10,816 --> 01:16:12,526
He's alright, Hank.

805
01:16:26,331 --> 01:16:27,165
Donovan,

806
01:16:28,500 --> 01:16:29,501
(RECORDER BEEPS)

807
01:16:33,380 --> 01:16:35,799
are you ready to give your
official statement now?

808
01:16:37,718 --> 01:16:38,552
Yes.

809
01:16:39,720 --> 01:16:44,347
Alright Donovan,
from the beginning.

810
01:16:44,349 --> 01:16:48,812
Can you please state your
full name for the record?

811
01:16:51,023 --> 01:16:51,857
My name is...

812
01:16:58,655 --> 01:17:03,660
My name is Donovan Michael Reid.
