- Elder Tale
- there are no admins. the players (adventurers) are the strongest. so i thought... what about the entity that brought those 700,000(+?) people from all over the world into the game
- and what if that entity was the person that made the update?
- what is their goal in all of it
- or was it an accident
- and so i'm making something to explain it in a way that makes me happy
- Note: From the point in the story where Shiroe gets to Kunie Clan leader and successfully negotiates with Kinjo, temporarily gaining access to the gold he needs in order to buy all the important structures and open fields in the Yamato server. Then he gives it all back to the server so that no individual could hold them, relieving the Round Table Alliance of the duty of maintaining the Guild Meeting Hall. However, he specifically leaves personal property out of the equation so that he wouldn't infringe on anybody else.
- After this, a being materializes before him. Kinjo bows to this figure but says nothing. Shiroe takes a step back and bows slightly while looking up over his glasses at the very typical business-dressed man.
- "Kei Shirogane of Log Horizon, I've been watching you all this time and I have to say you are exactly what I need." The man said in a strong voice, holding out his hand to Shiroe.
- Not taking the hand, Shiroe stood and instead used his right hand to straighten out his glasses on his face as he replied, "Sir, what 'exactly' do you need from someone like me?"
- Taking his hand back, the man smirks, "I need someone to help keep this world safe from the players and non-players that wish to rule or destroy it. I could do it myself but I believe that someone of the server should be responsible for each server."
- "Then-!" Shiroe was stopped by the man putting up a hand. "Yes, the entire world of players that were logged in at the time of the update have been put into this new world, this new dimension. Every country has its own server, as you know, so I feel it would be appropriate for each server to have an admin and these admins can keep the peace in my stead." He finished, holding a hand out once more. "Will you accept?"
- "That's not something I should be responsible for," Shiroe replied, still not taking the hand. "May I ask your name?"
- "I am the one who implemented this update at Atharva Inc, in this world I guess I'd be the equivalent of a god. I'm not really that clever but I can be everywhere at once and I can't die and I am still able to add new programs from within the game. The update wasn't supposed to do this but I haven't figured a way to get in touch with the real world. As far as I know, I'm the only one from the company who was playing on my creator account during the update. Any who decided to join after the first 24 hours of the update should have been put into the normal servers, this world is comprised of all of the test servers. My name is Namate Tonui."
- Shiroe looked at the still offered hand and sighed, closing his eyes in thought. "This is probably a terrible idea but I will help you and do my best to keep the peace here in the Yamato server." He opened his eyes and reached his hand out to Tonui's.
- Tonui smiled as their hands clasped together, "Thank you, I'm trusting you to do a good job, Shiroe." A glowing scroll appeared in thin air, it quickly wrote itself the details discussed and Tonui signed it with a pen from his pocket. He handed it to Shiroe who then signed his own name after a quick once-over on the scroll. The pen and scroll both vanished and when Shiroe looked back to where Tonui had been, there was nothing but empty space.
- An alert appeared in his field of view, it was red and in all capitals: ADMIN AUTHORIZED. REBOOTING PLAYER. "Wha-" Shiroe was stopped from any further talking by a blanket of darkness swarming his vision.
- "-iroe. ... Shiroe. Hey, he's moving! Shiroe, are you okay?" That was Naotsugu's voice. "Naotsugu?" Blinking open his eyes, Shiro found himself in a sitting position against a wall beside the path that led to the Kunie gold. After he looked around, he turned his eyes back to Naotsugu. "Yeah, yeah I'm okay. I sorted out our money problem too." He grumbled as he stood, stretching. Naotsugu grinned at that, "Awesome job, man."
- "Well, we took down the raid bosses like you said we would, Shiroe." William spoke as he walked over. "I'm guessing behind these doors is the end boss or something?" Shiroe looked up at William and smiled, "I'm glad you guys are okay and yes, but we can't enter anymore, the matter has already been settled. I'm sorry but I can't tell you more, it has to remain between myself and them."
- "Really? That's a shame. Well, I must thank you for this opportunity, it's time to go back, we have a victory to celebrate!" William smiled back, patting Shiroe on the shoulder. "Oh, before I forget, here," he rummaged through his bag and pulled out an amulet, "this is one of the item drops from the bosses, I decided it would be for you." Shiroe took the offered item, examining it and he grinned, "Thank you for this, William, really, I couldn't have done any of this without you, your team, or your leadership."
- "Hey, everyone! Let's head home! It's time to celebrate this victory!" A flashing button appeared before all of the party and they tapped it, teleporting to outside of the dungeon. They made their journey back to the town of Susukino and went straight to the tavern.
- Morning came and those that were not hung over were saying their farewells to Shiroe, Naotsugu, and Demikas.
- Demikas headed home with a few light-hearted threats, Re Gan decided to stay in Susukino for more research in the northern territory, William decided their guild would continue to keep the people of the land safe in the north, and Tetora officially joined Log Horizon.
- Walking South for a ways, the three talked about the changes of the raid and what other changes might be happening. Once they were a safe distance South, Naotsugu and Shiroe called their griffons and with Tetora behind Shiroe, they took off back to Akihabara.
- Back in Log Horizon headquarters after the three had gotten home, Tetora had taken up a room and was being shown around town by Tohya, Minori, Isuzu, and Rudy. Nyanta, Akatsuki, Nyanta, and Shiroe were gathered in Shiroe's study while Shiroe was using his scribe ability to write down his thoughts as fast as he could. The papers were practically flying but somehow managed to stay in chronological order in a messy pile. "Sorry, I'll be done in a sec," Shiroe said at a pause to push his glasses up the bridge of his nose.
- With a final flourish of his quill, Shiroe set down the paper and quill, put the cap on the ink, and put the papers in a neater pile. "Okay, now that my thoughts are somewhat organized, I can explain the purpose of the trip."
- He went on to explain how they were having financial trouble and needed to somehow keep things from enemy hands. He explained the meeting with members of the Kunie clan, who they were, what he was told he had to do to get the funds, how he worked out defeating the raid bosses, and then how he created a contract that changed the laws of property in the region of Akihabara.
- "So you were able to make it so no one could own any of the land in the immediate territory? That's actually a good move, I'm glad everything worked out!" Naotsugu commented with a thumbs-up. "Yes, it's great, but what happened after is what I'm still bothered by." Shiroe frowned, putting his hand on his chin in thought.
- "Oh?" Nyanta remarked, curious.
