  1. Moving to new places and changing schools can change people tremendously. My family and I moved from Chesterfield, Missouri to Fayetteville, Arkansas due to my father's employment at Tyson. We moved during the summer after my year of 7th grade and spent the entire summer living in a Residence Inn in Fayetteville, while we searched for a new house.
  2. Previous to my move, I had all sorts of activities: Orchestra, sports, hanging out with friends and etc... Since we were new to the city and living in a hotel, there was nothing on my agenda or anything of interest that I could do. So I decided to spend my entire summer break sitting on the couch playing computer games and watching TV.
  3. It was not long after we finally bought our house and settled in that school started. I still remember my first day of school at Woodland Junior High School. I was absolutely terrified. I felt as if I was on a different planet with different people, climate, and landforms. Before my move, I believed that everyone in Arkansas was the stereotypical shoeless rednecks and hillbillies that the movies portrayed them as. Although that may had been a false assumption on my part, I was still reluctant to making new friends. I had an extremely hard time leaving all my friends and adapting this new life. This shift in lifestyles left me antisocial for a good part of my 8th grade year. To this day I still remember my 8th grade lunch period where I sat by myself at a table with kids I didn't know and ate my food quietly.
  4. I was dishearten when I discovered that the Fayetteville School District did not offer an orchestra class but offered a band. Without the motivation of bragging to my orchestra class members, I began to lose interest and enthusiasm in the instrument that I had been playing for almost half of my life.
  5. My hopes were ruined when I discovered that Woodland Jr. High School did not offer a swim team or sports that I had played at my previous school. The only sport that I found outside of school and continued to participate in was swimming. Even though I found a club to swim, my interests began to change after my move and not long after, I quit the club.
  6. Ever since my move, change in schools, and duration of time I spent doing nothing in a hotel, my lifestyle and interests have changed dramatically. I've become less talkative and social than I was before.`
