  1. Once upon a time, there was a board called /n/. It was for train discussion. Naturally, nobody used it, so it was removed.
  2.
  3. Later on, moot decided to make a news board, so he recreated /n/ as /n/ - News. Eventually, it became overrun by people from stormfront, so he declared it to be a trains board again, and later made it just transportation in general. However, there was much outcry, so moot made /new/ for news and politics and told them they could have their board as long as they behaved and didn't fuck with the rest of the site or attract unwanted attention to 4chan. But history repeats itself, and so moot deleted /new/. Then, /new/ people flooded the rest of the site and made practically every board into a new /new/. So moot made /pol/. I think it was taken down and put up one or two times.

  5. A few months ago, moot decided to fuck with /pol/ a little--wordfilters, backgrounds, embedded youtube videos, and the like. He had done this regularly with the other popular boards, such as /a/, /v/, and /b/. It's kind of his way of showing he cares. By fucking with them for a day or two. However, the population of /pol/ is insular and so was unfamiliar with this. People decided they were VERY ANGRY about this, so moot decided to push them a little more. People declared that this time, for sure, they would leave the site. Some feared the board would be deleted again. But they didn't and the board is still here, and time marches on.

  7. Of course, moot is retired now. Based on what he said in his final Q&A, he's probably spending most of his time working and going innawoods.
  8.
  9. Oh yeah, there were also some text boards, but those are all frozen in archive state because of the inactivity. The imageboards are the discussion boards now, and third-party archives take the place of the on-site archival of discussions on the text boards. If you look in the archives at dis.4chan.org, you'll see that /newnew/ and /newpol/ are there.
