No Reset @ LanETS

This pastebin is to say what i thought about the LanETS marathon that i went to last weekend.

For those who dont know, LanETS is a gaming event in montreal and for the second year in a row we were having a marathon organised by No Reset that i helped run this year.

My Runs:

DK64:

So this was a race with bismuth, i ended up winning with ease after the first half being really close. I can't say im surprise since he has not put alot of time in the category, but it was still fun to showcase the run. But, i am very dissapointed with my gameplay, i felt i played terribly and that i could have done so much better with all the practice that went into this run vs DKR.


DKR:

So i was supose to do any% then it got switched to ATR because we were abit behind, but in the last day we picked up the pace and i was able to do any% and still make the marathon finish on time. One thing to note is that i had barely touch DKR since i submitted the run and oh Thursday/Friday i was hella rusty and i thought that my run would be bad. So i ended up grinding prety hard on the practice CRT's that we had. It ended up being worth it since the run went well and on top of it i got prety good rng for a marathon run which made me get a 43! The one thing i did not like about it was the fact that i wanted to do the safe route, and somehow thought i could wait until i knew the result of the 3rd warp. But i forgot that if i did that, i would need to redo the whole trophy after getting all the extra balloons. So i went to grind the warp and i got the good rng on the first extra wrong warps. So that kind of saved the run but hey, marathon luck! Also i got the weird TT stomp that like never happens, was prety happy/surprised about it.


Other's run:

I honestly did not get to watch many run, mostly because i was either practicing/playing smash/or trying to stay awake. But from what ive heard most of them were very good and the runners seems to be happy with the setup and everything. There's one run in particular that i remember which is acmlm's Dr.Mario run. Its actually quite a fantastic speedrun for a puzzle game, very impressive and of course it was done by a legend. There's a couple run i wanna watch the vod for including Drac's MK8 and Biglaw's Tony Hawk run. I will probably get to those once we get those on the Marathon youtube channel.


The event:

I feel the event outside of the speedrun corner was not really that hype for me. The only thing i really enjoyed was watching a bit of melee which i only really catch during pools. Was cool to see someone like leffen destroy some noobs, yes even if i dont like the guys seing his amount of skills in display is still enjoyable. The rest is more about esports tournament which i personally have nothing againts and i like some of these, but i was not really there for that and i mostly just wanted to hang out by the marathon area.

The Shoutouts

Jeed/Fozzy:

They let me sleep in their appartment in quebec city on Thursday/Sunday saving me having to travel to/from montreal in one go and also saving me money overall. They are both really cool guys to hang with and also my speedbros from the north. Hope we can hangout soon again.

Gvirus/Shokushu:

Without them, that marathon would have never been what it was. Big props for all the work they did and making this itteration of No Reset @ LanETS a success.


TM:

Always fun to hang out and play melee with. Also finally got to watch his S.O.S run, what a meme game but its a prety good watch ngl.


Nate:

Destroyed me in melee, we did not talk that much this time around since you got there kinda late saturday, but ill make sur to be better so that we can play better games next time, also ill bring 64 again so that we can actually play that next time.


Darrow:

Biglaw:

We had never met before, but it was amazing to talk to you for a few hours on sunday. Im glad that you enjoyed coming to montreal and that i hope to see you  coming again, or maybe if i go to toronto? :^)


Dracula/Sam:

Finally met you guys IRL after you guys being in my chat all the time, was fun hanging out, looking foward to help drac with DKR/Dk64 (and maybe sam? i dont remember if you where part of the rareware thingy).


Radio:

Idk how you would be able to hate that guy, for some reason i can never be mad when around him, all the problems go away. Hope to see you soon :D. Also shoutouts to both of us sleeping during SMRPG and waking up to a bunch of donation out of no were.



Now that it is 1:30 am, i can't think of anybody else but im sure i forgot some names, so if i did dont worry, i liked everybody that was there, did not get the chances to get to know everybody but just the fact that all of you were there and took time to come help with the marathon, either by being staff or a runner, it really means alot to me and the other admins that prepared this marathon for yall. Well make the next one even better :D


Now what?

Well, i will probably take a small break from NLE, not dk64. The reason is i played it so much i both wanna take a few day off to cooldown from that and also maybe learn a faster/harder route to go get a better time. In the meantime i might grind  a bit of any% and maybe do 101% IL's to start learning abit.

Maybe its also time to get good at bk?
