55. When an old enemy, the Cylons, resurface and obliterate the 12 colonies, the crew of the aged Galactica protect a small civilian fleet - the last of humanity - as they journey toward the fabled 13th colony, Earth.
 56. The second war against the Cylons is over, and The Twelve Colonies have been destroyed. Now Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galatica and President Laura Roslin lead a ragtag fleet of refugees in a supposed search for the fabled lost thirteenth colony, Earth. However, the dangers they face are many, which compound an already difficult situation. In addition to the Cylons hunting and attacking the fleet in space and their infiltrator units carrying out sabotage--even as their former unwitting pawn, Gaius Baltar, helps in the hunt for them while hiding both his own guilt and the strange presence that haunts his every thought--the fleet also faces internal political conflict in which the rabble-rousing figure Tom Zarek is merely the loudest dissenting voice, not to mention recurring shortages of food, water, and even oxygen. In the midst of these trials, however, clues begin to appear to suggest that Adama's bluff about finding Earth might hold more truth than anyone could have guessed.
 57. So I just picked up season 4 of this series and I must say that the first 2 seasons were excellent. I enjoyed them immensely. However, season 3 I found to be very uninteresting.

I will liken it to the Matrix movies. And without putting any plot spoilers in there, the series seems to degrade into philosophical "what ifs" from the stellar drama that it had set out to be. I liken it to the Matrix movies since the first installment was absolutely awesome, but then the 2nd and 3rd one came out and everyone watched them since they were the Matrix, but they just weren't the same. I have recently picked up season 4 to see if it was just season 3 that was bad and I am only through 3 disks but I have to say that season 4 seems to be more of the same as season 3.

All in all I believe the directors have gotten their own personal philosophical and metaphorical ideology in the way of what started off as a great series. However it has now degraded into something that I find myself not wanting to watch.
 58. After reading the first couple of pages of negative comments I was totally appalled ... no wonder great Sci Fi shows are so hard to come by and many fail after only a season or two due to low ratings ... what is wrong with these critics? My recommendation to everyone is to give this show a chance ... I was originally unimpressed with the mini-series as it was too complex and hard to understand at the time, but after watching the start of the first season I became totally hooked and have never looked back ... seriously this is the BEST THING ON TELEVISION by a long way! The music is sublime ... acting is awesome ... camera angles are exciting ... plot is intriguing ... the political and religious overtones are thought-provoking ... the realness and very clever portrayal of modern world events is clever!!! I almost get leg cramps during every episode due to the excitement! :P After 3 seasons, every episode has been better than the last ... the characters have developed very well and the audience is just left hooked and drooling after every episode! Heck I showed my girlfriend the 1st episode in season 3 (she is into brain-numbing shows like Heroes, Americas Top Model, and Survivor)... but even she loved it! We ended up sitting in front of the television for the next 3.5 hours and watched 4 episodes straight! I would go as far as saying this is the best show to hit the television screen ever ... and I am very very sad to see the show go =( Comparing this to the original and saying the writers should have kept things the same would be stupid ... green lizzard aliens no longer excite people ... the storyline of the old series was cheesy (but good at the time) ... the new show is not a remake ... it only takes the basic storyline and makes it so much better!!!! Booo to those critics ... this is a TOTALLY AMAZING SHOW which doesn't deserve to be put down!

 60. Yes, although it's producers call it a "reimagined" series, due to some slight differences. A battlestar is a very lage spaceship, kind of a cross between a battleship and an aircraft carrier. Cylons are humanoid robots created by mankind as servants and laborers. Eventually, they rebelled and declared war on their human masters. Miniseries - This 3 hour miniseries acts as a pilot for the weekly series and introduces the characters and situations.

Season 1 - Contains 13 episodes.

Season 2 - Contains 20 episodes.

Season 3 - Contains 20 episodes.

Battlestar Galactica: Razor - This 2 hour TV movie ( officially the first two episodes of Season 4 ) takes place during Season 2, with flashbacks to the miniseries and earlier, but should be viewed here.

Season 4, Part 1 - Contains 10 episodes ( also known as "Season 4.0" on DVD ).

Season 4, Part 2 - Contains 10 episodes ( also titled "Season 4.5" or "The Final Season" on DVD )

Battlestar Galactica : The Plan - This is a post-series prequel TV movie which depicted selected events of the miniseries and series from the Cylons point of view.

There are also two spin-off prequels:

Caprica - A 19 episode prequel series set 58 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica. The series deals with the creation of the Cylons, and stars Eric Stoltz as Daniel Greystone, creator of the Cylons, and Esai Morales as Joseph Adama, father of Battlestar's William Adama. Released on DVD ( and Blu-ray in certain territories ).

Battlestar Galactica : Blood & Chrome - A 2 hour prequel movie that is set during the first Cylon War, 40 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica and around 18 years after Caprica. The story follows a young William Adama ( future commander of the Galactica ) as a new recruit in the Colonial Fleet, and shows his first experience of battling the Cylons. Released on DVD and Blu-ray. Yes, the miniseries acts as a pilot, and sets up all of the events, characters, and themes of the series. If you start with episode S01E01, you will be very confused! a5c7b9f00b
