Privacy Policy for Eestify

Eestify is a Chrome browser extension designed to help users learn Estonian by replacing English words on web pages with their Estonian translations.

Data Collection

Eestify does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.sync) and is synced across your Chrome browsers where you are signed in.

What we store locally:

- Your settings (translation density, difficulty level, categories, feature toggles)
- Your progress (words seen, words mastered, quiz count, streaks)
- Your favorite words
- Your custom word list
- Your site blacklist
- Your seen words history with interaction counts

External Services

Eestify optionally uses the Lingva Translate API (lingva.ml) when you double-click selected text to translate it. This is a free and open-source translation service. When you use this feature, the selected text is sent to Lingva's servers solely for the purpose of translation. This feature is only triggered by your explicit action (double-clicking selected text).

Eestify does not use Google Analytics, tracking pixels, or any form of analytics or telemetry.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, share, or transmit your data to any third parties. The only external data transmission is the optional translation request to Lingva described above.

Permissions

Eestify requests the following permissions:

- "storage": To save your settings and progress locally
- "activeTab": To interact with the currently active tab
- "tabs": To reload the active tab when settings change
- "host_permissions" for lingva.ml: To enable optional translation

The content script runs on all URLs to replace English text with Estonian translations. No data from your browsing is sent anywhere except when you explicitly use the double-click translate feature.

This privacy policy may be updated occasionally. Changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
