- In today’s poll, Republicans approve of the president’s job performance 92 – 5 percent, tying his highest approval among Republicans, while Democrats disapprove 94 – 4 percent. Independents disapprove 50 – 42 percent, but this is the best approval number Trump has received among this group since his inauguration. Men are divided as 50 percent approve and 46 percent disapprove. Women disapprove 57 – 38 percent, but it is the president’s best approval number among women thus far.
- When considering theories of congressional behavior, it is informative to examine how the House of Representatives voted on Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump on December 18, 2019 (Citation). Democratic Representative Collin Peterson of Minnesota's 7th Congressional District voted "no" on both Articles. Democratic Representative Jared Golden of Maine's 2nd Congressional District voted "yes" on Article I: Abuse of Power and "no" on Article II: Obstruction of Congress. Then-Democratic Representative Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey's 2nd Congressional District voted "no" on both Articles and on December 19, 2019, he left the Democratic Party and joined the Republican Party (Citation). Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District voted "present" on both Articles. Former-Republican-turned-Independent Representative Justin Amash of Michigan's 3rd Congressional District voted "yes" on both Articles. After "declaring [his] independence and leaving the Republican Party" on July 4, 2019 (Citation), an aid to the congressman confirmed his intention to seek re-election as an Independent (Citation). Representative Amash formally resigned from the House Republican Caucus on July 8, 2019 (Citation). Republican Representatives Duncan Hunter of California and John Shimkus of Illinois and Democratic Representative José Serrano of New York did not vote on either Article. All other Democratic Representatives voted "yes"; all other Republican Representatives voted "no".
