One of the survivors was no longer able to see any more. Another one
was having trouble breathing—a loud wheeze was audible each time he
took a breath. The third one—Saburō—had burns over half his face, but he
seemed to be in surprisingly good shape.
“What the hell do you think happened?” The fishermen had been out to
sea and didn’t have a clue what had transpired.
“I don’t really know how to explain it. The sea just exploded all of a
sudden . . .”
“Exploded!?” The astounded fishermen looked at one another in
confusion
