  32. 1. INTRODUCTION
  33. ===============================================================================
  34. This is meant to be a no-frills, no gimmicks, as spoiler-free as possible
  35. guide. Look to other FAQs for gameplay information beyond the walkthrough.
  36. (The locations of Al Bhed Primers are included, since you can't go back for
  37. some of them - but, otherwise, no sidequest info is included.)
  38. Be warned - the location names may be slight spoilers - but little to no
  39. information about the plot is revealed. For the most part, no boss strategies
  40. are given (or they are very minimal.)
  41. In general, just talk to all relevant people, and follow the red arrow on most
  42. maps. That should get you through most of the game. Enjoy.

  55. - Push through the fans and enter the stadium
  56. - After an event, leave the stadium
  57. - Attack the enemies in front of you - ignore the ones behind you
  58. - Use Auron's Overdrive, then just attack the boss - it can't kill you
  59. - Follow Auron
  60. - Attack the enemies in front of you, then attack the tanker when Auron tells
  61. you to (make sure to stay healed with Potions)

  72. - Go into the SW room, by the save sphere - examine until you find Flint
  73. - Go to the center of the main room

  77. 3. Al Bhed Salvage Ship

  79. - Grab Al Bhed Primer Vol. I on the NE corner of the ship
  80. - Talk to the girl, then talk to her again

  82. - Swim all the way down the passage, examine the object at the end, swim back
  83. - Fight the boss - use 'Pincer Attack' when it becomes available
  84. - Exit on the side of the chamber (look at the red arrow on your minimap)
  85. - Swim up and out
  86. - Talk to Rikku again

  97. - Go to Wakka's hut (middle hut on the right), take a nap

  101. - Touch the glyph in front of you

  103. - Go down, take the Glyph Sphere from the recess
  104. - Place the Glyph Sphere in the door

  106. - Move down the hall, place the Glyph Sphere in the left wall
  107. - Move down the hall, touch the symbols on the right wall (there are three
  108. rows of white symbols)
  109. - Take the Besaid Sphere in the room that was just revealed
  110. - Place the Besaid Sphere in the pedestal opposite from that room
  111. - Go back down the hall - get the Destruction Sphere from the room you opened
  112. with the Glyph Sphere
  113. - Place the Destruction Sphere into the recess where you got the Besaid Sphere
  114. - Get the item in the treasure chest at the end of the hall
  115. - Push the pedestal forward

  117. - Leave the temple, walk toward the group of people
  118. - Go up to the summoner, then tell Wakka you're ready for bed
  119. - Walk down the road to the harbor, following your friends' instructions on
  120. how to fight the enemies

  130. - Fight the boss (use long range attacks - Wakka's ball and Lulu's magic)

  141. - Defeat the boss outside the temple, then go into the temple
  142. - Talk to Wakka, then try to enter the Cloister of Trials
  143. - Wait for the elevator to come back up, then step on it

  146. - Take the Kilika Sphere from the pedestal
  147. - Place the Kilika Sphere in the recess by the door, then remove it again
  148. - Place the Kilika Sphere in the recess in the front wall, then remove it again

  150. - Touch the glyph on the front wall
  151. - Move down the hall, take the Kilika Sphere from the right wall
  152. - Go back down the hall, place the Kilika Sphere in the right wall in that room
  153. - Take the Glyph Sphere from the pedestal
  154. - Move down the hall again, place the Glyph Sphere in the recess where you got
  155. the Kilika Sphere, on the right wall
  156. - Step on the shining glyph just north of there
  157. - Push the pedestal onto the shining glyph
  158. - Take one of the Kilika Spheres from the previous room - place it into the
  159. pedestal
  160. - Take the Kilika Sphere that is revealed below
  161. - Place it in the door up the stairs
  162. - Take the Destruction Sphere from the room you opened with the Glyph Sphere
  163. - Place the Destruction Sphere in the wall you revealed by pushing the
  164. pedestal (down below)

  166. - Take the Kilika Sphere from the door - exit ahead

  168. - Talk to Wakka, then try to leave the way you came in
  169. - Walk out of the temple, then back through the jungle to Kilika
  170. - Walk down the docks, back toward where you got off the ship

  175. - Head up on deck - get Al Bhed Primer Vol. V from the bridge
  176. - Go to the back of the ship, then talk to Yuna
  177. - Try to go up to the top of the ship (up the stairs by the bridge)
  178. - SAVE below deck - you may wish to do this next part a couple times
  179. - Try the Jecht Shot Challenge - if you want the Jecht Shot (for blitzball),
  180. you'll need to do this successfully
  181. - Talk to Yuna again

  187. - Head to the locker room hallway opposite the one you came out of - grab

  189. - Head south, then go north 3 screens - get Al Bhed Primer Vol. VII on the
  190. ground in the theater - go back south again
  191. - Go to the cafe
  192. - Go to the #4 dock
  193. - Use Lulu's Lightning on the crane 3 times, then have Tidus activate it
  194. - Go down, get back to your locker room
  195. - Talk to Wakka (this will start a blitzball game after some events - be ready)
  196. - Play some blitzball, fight some enemies
  197. - Follow the red arrows out of Luca
  198. - Talk to Yuna

  207. - Try to go outside - you'll recieve Al Bhed Primer VIII automatically
  208. - Walk north a little bit
  209. - Fight a boss - afterwards, move ahead along the road
  210. - (If you came from the lower, old road, turn back down the left path when you
  211. get to the blockade, pick up Al Bhed Primer Vol. IX)
  212. - (If you came from the upper, new road, pick up Al Bhed Primer Vol. IX along
  213. the path)
  214. - Try to go through the blockade, then turn back
  215. - Proceed through the blockade

  218. 10. Mushroom Rock Road

  220. - Head down the road until you are stopped
  221. - Proceed along the road to the command center
  222. - Near then end of the road, there is a C-shaped path off the road - at the
  223. end of that is Al Bhed Primer Vol. X
  224. - Go up the last elevator, then walk over to the command center
  225. - Talk to the soldier when you're ready to proceed
  226. - Fight the boss, then the next boss
  227. - Find Gatta by a wall to the north
  228. - Walk up to the Djose Highroad

  231. 11. Djose Highroad / Djose

  233. - Walk down to the end of the highroad
  234. - Al Bhed Primer Vol. XI is easy to miss - there is a treasure box halfway
  235. down the road - a little bit further down the road, on the opposite side is
  236. a pillar - the primer is hidden behind it
  237. - At the fork in the road near the end, follow your friends to the temple
  238. - Enter the Cloister of Trials
  239.  
  240. === CLOISTER OF TRIALS ===
  241. - Take both Djose Spheres from the sides of the room, place them in the door
  242. - Move down the hall
  243. - Take both Djose Spheres from the sides of the room - place them in the two
  244. recesses along the wall to the right
  245. - Push the pedestal right until it is directly below the pedestal hanging from
  246. the roof (with the sphere still in the pedestal) - this will charge the sphere
  247. - Take the charged Djose Sphere from the pedestal - place it the recess to the
  248. right of the door
  249. - Step on the shining glyph on the left side of the room to reset the pedestal
  250. - Take both Djose Spheres from the recesses to the right and place them in the
  251. pedestal
  252. - Push the pedestal into the pit ahead - jump across the pit
  253. - Push the pedestal ahead into the alcove - jump back across the pit
  254. - Take the Djose Sphere from the recess to the right of the door
  255. - Place the Djose Sphere into the recess to the left of the door
  256. - Step on the shining glyph again to reset the pedestal
  257. - Take both Djose Spheres from the pedestal - place them in the recesses in the
  258. room where you started - this will reveal an elevator
  259. - DONT go up the elevator yet - go to the left of the elevator
  260. - Touch the flashing glyph on the wall to the left
  261. - Take the Destruction Sphere - bring it with you up the elevator
  262. - Push all 5 pedestals into the alcoves ahead of them
  263. - Place the Destruction Sphere into the pedestal that just appeared
  264. - Take the treasure - then go up the stairs
  265.  
  266. - After the conversation with Dona, try to leave the room
  267. - Go into the temple, then into the room left of the Cloister to find Yuna
  268. - Head back, then down the other fork in the road
  269.

  271. 12. Moonflow

  273. - Just walk down the road, as usual
  274. - If you wish, talk to Belgemine to fight in an aeon battle (Doing so gets you
  275. the Summoner's Soul, which teaches your aeons abilities)
  276. - Once at the shoopuf wharf, talk to the blue guy up the stairs to ride
  277. - After a battle, go left one screen, then up the ramp to find Al Bhed Primer
  278. Vol. XII sitting on the platform
  279. - Contine going left to get back on the road
  280. - Find the girl laying on the road
  281. - Walk along the road to Guadosalam
  282.

  284. 13. Guadosalam

  286. - From the entrance - go up the ramp towards the manor, then turn back down the
  287. left path - enter the house in the left corner there - grab Al Bhed Primer Vol.
  288. XIII hidden behind the tree trunk inside the house
  289. - Go into the manor, enter the door on the bottom floor
  290. - Talk to your party members while you wait
  291. - Leave the manor, go down the left path and then up the ramp (the one further
  292. south) and through the door at the top - follow the path from there
  293. - Go up the stairs
  294. - Go talk to Wakka and Yuna
  295. - Go down and talk with your friends
  296. - Try to leave to the Thunder Plains (near the entrance, the passage guarded
  297. by a Guado), then go back and talk to your friends
  298. - Leave for the Thunder Plains

  301. 14. Thunder Plains

  303. - You can dodge lightning by pressing 'X' when you see a bright flash - but,
  304. it isn't necessary for the moment - the lightning doesn't do any damage
  305. - Follow the path and cross the first part of the Thunder Plains
  306. - Speak to Rikku in the Travel Agency, then talk to Rin and tell him 'Okay'
  307. and he'll give you Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIV
  308. - Go into the hallway that Yuna went into
  309. - Talk to Rikku again
  310. - Continue along the path until you reach Macalania Forest
  311.

  313. 15. Macalania Woods / Lake Macalania

  315. - Proceed along the forest path
  316. - About halfway through, there is a butterfly catching/dodging mini-game - its
  317. optional, so feel free to skip it for now, if you want
  318. - Towards the end, by the save sphere, Al Bhed Primer Vol. XV is along the
  319. lower right path that leads to the sparkly trail - its hard to see, and easy
  320. to miss
  321. - Once you approach the end, go down the path Auron makes
  322. - There will be a boss - to beat it, attack it, and it will counterattack with
  323. an element - attack it with the OPPOSITE element after that - it will then
  324. change weaknesses, so attack it again to find its new weakness and repeat
  325. - Continue along the path to Lake Macalania
  326. - Pick up Al Bhed Primer Vol. XVI sitting outside the travel agency, left side
  327. - When you're ready, continue down the path - there will be a boss
  328.

  333. - Go into the room on the right side after someone comes out

  342. - Take out the Glyph Sphere - place it in the far left recess
  343. - Go up the ramp - take the Macalania Sphere from the recess directly above
  344. where you put the Glyph Sphere (on the left side of the room)
  345. - Go down the ramp - place the Macalania Sphere into the pedestal
  346. - Push the pedestal right
  347. - Go up the ramp - take the Macalania Sphere from the right side of the room
  348. - Go down the ramp - place the Macalania Sphere in the pole on the left
  349. - Go up the ramp - take the Macalania Sphere right next to the ramp
  350. - Place the Macalania Sphere into the center pole
  351. - Go up the ramp, back to where you started - step on the shining glyph on
  352. the uppermost level
  353. - Take the Macalania Sphere from the pedestal
  354. - Push the pedestal down the ramp
  355. - Go down the ramp - place the Macalania Sphere into the recess on the right
  356. wall (this should create the iceberg)
  357. - Take the Macalania Sphere from the center post - place in the recess by the
  358. ramp to the lower level (this should create the ramp)
  359. - Step on the shining glyph on the middle level
  360. - Take the Destruction Sphere from the pedestal - then push it right, then up
  361. - Go down the ramp - place the Destruction Sphere into the right recess on the
  362. left wall (just right of where the Glyph Sphere is)
  363. - Take the treasure
  364. - Go up the ramp - take the Macalania Sphere from the right side of the room
  365. - Go down the ramp - place the Macalania Sphere into the pedestal
  366. - Push the pedestal right
  367. - Go up the ramp - take the Macalania Sphere right next to the ramp
  368. - Place the Macalania Sphere into the center pole
  369. - Go up the ramp to the uppermost level - BE CAREFUL NOT TO STEP ON THE SHINING
  370. GLYPH, OR THE PUZZLE WILL RESET - walk across the ice walkway
  371.  
  372. - Run from the temple
  373. - Go back down the path to the lake
  374. - Past the save sphere, you'll fight a boss
  375. - Talk to Rikku, then go up to Yuna, then talk to Auron
  376.

  378. 17. Sanubia Desert

  380. - Move north, fight in a battle to get Auron and Lulu
  381. - Go forward and find Wakka, then head over the dune to the next area
  382. - Go right to find Kimahri, then turn back and go left
  383. - Continue along the left path to find Rikku
  384. - In the next area, ('Sanubia Desert - Central'), Al Bhed Primer Vol. XVIII
  385. is sitting next to a sign that says 'This way to Home' in Al Bhed, right by the
  386. exit to the next area
  387. - Continue through the desert until you reach Home
  388.

  390. 18. Home
  391. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  392. - NOTE: The Al Bhed Primers in Home cannot be obtained after you leave Home -
  393. so its now or never. There are 3 Primers in Home.
  394. - Get Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIX, on the left side of the first area of Home
  395. - Go into the building, and walk up to your party - you'll fight a battle
  396. - Follow your party through the door
  397. - After another battle, go down the hall until the view changes, then turn back
  398. and go into the room off the side to get Al Bhed Primer Vol. XX
  399. - When the path forks in 3 directions, take the right fork and go into the room
  400. for Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXI
  401. - Go back and take the left fork - go through the door - another battle
  402. - Head down the stairs, then through the door to the sanctum
  403. - After the conversation, head through the next door and up the stairs
  404.

  406. 19. Airship

  408. - Leave the bridge and come back
  409. - Talk to the pilot (sitting at the top end of the bridge)
  410. - Try to leave the bridge
  411. - Walk down the corridor til you reach the cabin, then go out on deck
  412. - Fight the boss (Use Tidus and Rikku to move the ship in airship battles)
  413.

  415. 20. Bevelle / Via Purifico
  416. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  417. - Move forward and fight the guards til you reach the stairs
  418. - After an event, walk down the stairs
  419. - Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXII is laying on the ground in front of the stairs
  420. just before the save sphere - pick it up now, because you can't come back
  421. - Head through the door into the Cloister of Trials
  422.  
  423. === CLOISTER OF TRIALS ===
  424. - Push the pedestal into the middle of the circle
  425. - The track here is in a continuous loop - going off the end will place you
  426. back at the beginning - so if you miss a turn, simply try again
  427. - From the beginning, go forward, skip the first turn, then go left at the
  428. second turn (It may take some practice to get the timing down)
  429. - Take the Bevelle Sphere from the recess on the wall - then push the pedestal
  430. back out onto the track
  431. - Loop back around again - skip the first turn, take the second turn RIGHT
  432. - Place the Bevelle Sphere into the recess on the wall - then push the pedestal
  433. back out onto the track
  434. - Loop back around - take the first turn right, then go straight at the next
  435. intersection
  436. - Take the Bevelle Sphere, then push the pedestal back out onto the track
  437. - Go right at the intersection
  438. - This loop moves faster, so it may take a few tries to get the timing down
  439. - From the intersection at the start of this loop - take the last turn right
  440. - Place the Bevelle Sphere into the recess in the wall - push the pedestal
  441. back onto the track
  442. - From the start of the loop - go forward - take the second turn right
  443. - Take the Glyph Sphere - push the pedestal back onto the track
  444. - Take the last turn right again
  445. - Place the Glyph Sphere into the recess in the glyph
  446. - Take the Destruction Sphere - push the pedestal back onto the track
  447. - From the start of the loop - go forward - take the second turn right
  448. - Place the Destruction Sphere into the recess here (it should be the same spot
  449. where you got the Glyph Sphere)
  450. - * If you want the Knight Lance (it is NOT the Destruction Sphere Treasure),
  451. stop off at the last turn, take the Bevelle Sphere from the wall, push the
  452. pedestal back onto the track
  453. - From the start of the loop - go forward - take the first turn right
  454. - Push the pedestal onto the track ahead of you
  455. - Go up the stairs, take the treasure (This is the Destruction Sphere Treasure,
  456. so you recieve it automatically)
  457. - If you took the Bevelle Sphere earlier at the * - place it in the recess,
  458. step on the shining glyph where the treasure chest was, and push the pedestal
  459. onto the track - take the other treasure
  460.  
  461. - After some events, you'll be in a dungeon
  462. - It is possible to find Auron, Kimahri and Lulu - but, the boss battle is an
  463. aeon battle, so it isn't necessary
  464. - For the shortest path: Go forward, past the first transporter to the second,
  465. and teleport when the arrow is pointing up
  466. - Walk down the hall to the end to fight a boss
  467. - After the battle, swim through the passage until you fight a boss - the boss
  468. can be easily defeated by using 2 Phoenix Downs on it
  469. - Swim all the way to the end of the passage
  470. - Run all the way down the path to the end to fight another boss
  471.

  473. 21. Calm Lands / Macalania Woods
  474. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  475. - Once you're at the campsite, go down 2 areas and find Yuna by the spring
  476. - After an event, start to walk back toward the campsite
  477. - If you want the sphere from Auron's Overdrive, go west 2 screens, and look
  478. for it on the ground
  479. - Walk back east toward the Calm Lands
  480. - If you wish, talk to Belgemine (she's standing by a rock cropping in a valley
  481. near the shop) to fight in an aeon battle
  482. - To go forward with the game, go west down the hill, then northeast to
  483. the far northeast exit of the Calm Lands (the exit along the east wall leads
  484. to the Monster Arena)
  485. NOTE: Information about the Monster Arena sidequest is not discussed in this
  486. short walkthrough.
  487. - Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXIII is found near the NW corner of the Calm Lands,
  488. right at the tip of a cliff along the western edge. (The cliff juts out pretty

  494. (the southeast corner of the Calm Lands), and press 'X' by the chocobo feather
  495. on the ground - you'll jump the gap. Walk over to the temple, and find the
  496. primer outside, down the left path around the temple.
  497. - Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXV is found in the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth, now
  498. accessible - from where you fought the path - go down into the canyon below
  499. the bridge ahead - follow that path to the cavern

  512. - After the save sphere at the top of the slope, you'll fight another boss

  515. - Go outside again, then go up the stairs and talk to the person there
  516. - Continue up the mountain to a cave
  517. - From the save sphere in the cave - take the left path, and swim through the
  518. water to the first trial
  519. - Complete the first trial (throw Wakka's ball so it hits the center - it just
  520. takes a little timing, and you have unlimited tries)

  522. - From the save sphere - go up the stairs, then take the left path

  541. - The basic principle of this puzzle is to step onto tiles that activate the
  542. Tetris-like shapes that correspond with what is displayed on the screen
  543. - Consult the Zanarkand Ruins Trial Map by BWiese at GameFAQs (its a GIF) for
  544. help with this trial - its much more clear than any ASCII art I could create
  545. - Step on the correct tiles in the first room - 6 pedestals will appear
  546. - Push the pedestal in the upper left corner into the alcove, then step on the
  547. correct tiles in the second room
  548. - Repeat this for the upper right, lower left, and lower right pedestals
  549. - Take the Kilika Sphere from the recess by the screen - go back to the first
  550. room and place it in the middle-left pedestal
  551. - Take the Besaid Sphere from the recess by the screen - go back to the first
  552. room and place it in the middle-left pedestal
  553. - A save sphere will appear - you'll fight a boss when you return to the
  554. second room, so be ready

  556. airship, you can return for it. To get it, step on all the white squares,

  591. - Wander along this path until you reach a save sphere and the next area
  592. (The path, as obscured as it seems, is fairly straightforward - keep walking
  593. and you'll get there)
  594. - Fight a boss, then proceed forward
  595. - Move along the path til you reach the save sphere
  596. NOTE: This is the last save sphere in the game - the next area beyond it
  597. (where the red arrow points) is the 'point of no return', so to speak.
  598. - Move up the ramp and up to the tower
  599. - Collect ten of the crystals that appear - dodge the spikes that come up
  600. - Once you've collected ten, you'll move ahead and fight a boss
  601. - Choose each of your aeons, and fight a battle for each
