  1. Alternative Class Feature Name
  2. This section provides a general description of the alternative
  3. class feature, including some roleplaying suggestions for each
  4. variant of the standard class.
  5. level: You can select the alternative class feature only at
  6. the indicated level.
  7. Replaces: This line identifies the ability you must sacrifice
  8. to gain the alternative class feature.
  9. Benefit: This section describes the mechanical effects of
  10. the alternative class feature.
  11. BARBARIAN
  12. Barbarians who follow a spiritual path are often tied
  13. at some deep level to the wildlands that gave them
  14. birth. Such characters feel a kinship with the spirits of
  15. nature—especially animal spirits—and draw their power
  16. from these essences. Divine barbarians are viewed with
  17. awe and sometimes fear by their tribes, and some such
  18. characters are considered holy people in the absence of
  19. any organized religion.
  20. Spiritual Totem
  21. Choose a spiritual totem: bear, eagle, fox, lion, or wolf.
  22. Once you do so, you are forever bound to that animal spirit.
  23. Your connection grants you special abilities based on the
  24. totem you have chosen (or that has chosen you, as some
  25. see it).
  26. The DM can add more totems to the above list as desired,
  27. using those presented here as guidelines.
  28. Level: 1st.
  29. Replaces: This benefit replaces the fast movement class
  30. feature.
  31. Benefit: You gain one of the abilities described below,
  32. depending on the chosen totem. Each of these effects is a
  33. supernatural ability.
  34. Bear Totem: The mighty bear is known for her crushing
  35. embrace, if you adopt her as your spiritual totem, you gain
  36. the improved grab ability (MM 310).
  37. Eagle Totem: The eagle can see clearly over great distances
  38. and often notices details that are not obvious. If you embrace
  39. him as your spiritual totem, you gain a +4 bonus on Search
  40. and Spot checks.
  41. Fox Totem: The cunning fox uses stealth to gain the upper
  42. hand. Should you choose her as your spiritual totem, you
  43. gain a +4 bonus on Hide and Move Silently checks.
  44. Lion Totem: Regal and intimidating, the powerful lion is a
  45. symbol of nobility among the races of the wild. By selecting
  46. him as your spiritual totem, you gain the pounce ability
  47. (MM 313).
  48. Wolf Totem: The wolf is a loyal ally who uses pack tactics
  49. to subdue her foes. If you choose her as your spiritual totem,
  50. you gain an additional +2 bonus on attack rolls when flanking
  51. an opponent.
  52. Totem Manifestation
  53. As the bond between you and your totem grows closer, the
  54. spirit of your chosen animal reveals itself more strongly.
  55. Level: 7th.
  56. Replaces: This benefit replaces the damage reduction class
  57. feature, including all damage reduction increases gained at
  58. higher levels of the barbarian class.
  59. Benefit: When you select this ability, your connection to
  60. your spiritual totem intensifies. If you have not yet chosen
  61. a spiritual totem, you must do so now, but you gain only
  62. those abilities described here, not those for the spiritual
  63. totem alternative class feature. Each of these effects is a
  64. supernatural ability.
  65. Bear Totem: The powerful bear rewards your loyalty. If you
  66. choose her as your spiritual totem, you gain 1 extra hit point
  67. per barbarian level.
  68. Eagle Totem: The keen-eyed eagle grants you low-light vision
  69. if you adopt him as your spiritual totem. If you have previ
  70. ously chosen the eagle as your spiritual totem, the bonus on
  71. Search and Spot checks increases by 1 at each level at which
  72. your damage reduction would increase (10th, 13th, 16th, and
  73. 19th levels).
  74. Fox Totem: The quick fox grants you a +1 dodge bonus
  75. to Armor Class if you choose her as your spiritual totem.
  76. This bonus increases by 1 at each level at which your
  77. damage reduction would increase (10th, 13th, 16th, and
  78. 19th levels). Any condition that causes you to lose your
  79. Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) also negates this
  80. dodge bonus.
  81. Lion Totem: If you select the lion as your spiritual totem,
  82. he rewards you with the ability to loose a powerful and
  83. intimidating roar. When you roar, every creature within a
  84. 30-foot radius must succeed on a Will save (DC 10 +1/2 your
  85. barbarian level + your Str modifier) or be shaken for a number
  86. of rounds equal to your barbarian level. This ability can be
  87. used once per day, and you gain an additional use per day at
  88. each level at which your damage reduction would increase
  89. (10th, 13th, 16th, and 19th levels).
  90. Wolf Totem: The wolf is an intelligent hunter who can
  91. track her prey with uncanny accuracy and insight. If you
  92. choose her as your spiritual totem, you gain Track as a
  93. bonus feat. In addition, you gain a +2 sacred bonus on
  94. Survival checks.
