pbm 1/20/25 - 2024 anime tierlist

damn near been a year, but at least we're back, yeah?

jesus i've flipped through so many things in doing this, lol

here's how it went down~
anime tier list again- i'm doing this so i have my first pbm for bluesky (HELLO BLUESKY PEOPLE, WELCOME TO MY SPORADIC MEME FROM YEARS AGO). i put this off for almost a month, as i originally planned to do it first monday of the year. i sat down and was like "... lol i don't wanna type anything, so i'll just do a video like last year"- opened obs, made a template on tierlist maker, recorded a few quick audio checks, and was like ".... but wait, i don't wanna sit here and talk for a few hours knowing 3 people *might* look at this", so i came back here. went through like, 4 or 5 different ideas, and landed on "lol i'm going to make a literal list, blub here and there, and be done"

so that's what ya got.

s tier / godlike / good af

		solo leveling
			|| pitched as good action anime and was actually better than people's misrepresentations

		delicious in dungeon
			|| "it's the next good food anime" they said. yeah ok- iykyk (it's really, really good. marcielle's great)

		a sign of affection ****
			|| my pick for anime of the year, and that's in spite of it being "just" a realistic, down-to-earth romance

		kaiju no 8
			|| forgot if this was pitched to me or not, but good all the same

		yuru camp 3
			|| yuru camp literally can't be any less than s (so long as it's not room camp shorts)

		oshi no ko 2
			|| still can't really explain why i like it, but it's really good drama.

		dandadan
			|| i still "don't really get wtf is going on", but it's the good animation series of, uh, the year???





a tier / solid / enjoyed for a good reason(s)

		urusei yatsura 3
			|| would be s, but it was at the point that they were doin' the most random nonsense. still good tho

		gushing over magical girls
			|| in spite of what this is, and in spite of me not liking it for that, i laughed so friggin' hard, and it had some kool quirky ideas. utena.... [laughs out loud] yeah, she's a great char

		girls band cry
			|| it's good. i actually think it's somewhat overrated, but i've barely watched this genre, so i'll just take it as is for now

		wind breaker
			|| honestly b tier by design, but the fight choreography and animations are *really* good, and i want s2 for that alone

		jellyfish can't swim in the night
			|| sounded a lot kooler in description than what happened. would be above girls band cry, but fizzled in the end

		yakuza fiancee
			|| i spent the entire series trying to figure out if i was interested and/or liked this. did like that it wasn't what i expected walking into it. also, yoshino was kool, and i like the reactions they gave her specifically





b tier / mid tbh / ok

		7th time loop
			|| the concept was kool; meh 'cause they only had a cour, so they didn't talk much about things before the 7th loop. rishe is one of my favorite chars in recent times, and it's a shame she's locked in this series.

		villainess level 99
			|| really just aight 'cause yumiella wasn't really trying to hide anything, and i chuckled at the cg chibi bits.

		fluffy princess
			|| honestly, the only reason this is in b is 'cause it's clearly the kinda series that's never going to be finished. if there were more, it'd be higher 'cause it's surprisingly good for what was advertised.

		metallic rogue
			|| probably would be a for actual mecha fans (sentai??? i still say this is more sentai then mecha). still occasionally hum them main motif

		viral hit
			|| i'm still very biased against this because it's one of the main quirks i absolutely hate about modern society. https://youtu.be/Ugn0wl9RUxo?feature=shared still have no earthly idea why this is one of the main tracks, it's still random af to think about, but it's still like "... lol ok, y'all got it" (it's on one of my gym playlists)

		my deer friend nokotan
			|| really is an a tier "stupid" anime (kids call it "brainrot"), but it wasn't exactly my kind of stupid. i still respect the heck out of it for what it is, tho. shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiika

		magilumiere
			|| was pitched to me by my best friend- it's actually a really kool, original take on mahou shoujo, but the production is mediocre





c tier / bleh / probably forgotten already

		hokkaido gals are adorable
			|| in the realm of romcoms, this was pretty friggin' mediocre and forgettable. i liked the main girl, but she wasn't good enough to really do anything for the show as a whole

		blue exorcist: shimane illuminati saga
			|| more blue exorcist, more "in the wrong era"

		the foolish angel dances with the devil
			|| if the entire show was just the bits of the two of them trying to get a confession out of each other, this would be b or a. however, there were a bunch of "why are you doing this???" segments, so it's down here in bleh.

		t'is time for torture princess
			|| i give them respect for trying to expand a yonkoma into full episodes, but the beginning got very repetitive and boring. the latter half was actually pretty good, but they'd already dropped the bar too low at that point

		alya sometimes hides her feelings in russian
			|| (don't ask me my opinion on this, lol. it's ok, but i think very lowly of it 'cause of other people's opinion of it)

		blue exorcist: beyond the snow saga
			|| more blue exorcist, more "in the wrong era" again




f tier / it's trash / nope

		sengoku youko
			|| for the most part, if you ask people about action anime outside "the big hitters" nowaday, people'll say there isn't any. it's 'cause, to my understanding, most of it is like this. this is actually c, but it's so bleh that i didn't know they continued with a 2nd cour- i can't convince myself to be concerned (yet)

		plus sized elf
			|| tl;dr - i was hoping for a variation of "how heavy are the dumbbells you lift" mixed with "jam fantasy in modern times". didn't really get that. i imagine people who just wanted the lewd were also disappointed. its product of a short episode series. no matter what, though, kuroeda was great 'cause she was just a "triflin' black chick" lol

			|| started but didn't finish- pretty sure it'll be a

		spice and wolf
			|| don't know why i didn't finish- it's s and i can't be told otherwise

			|| "stuff happened" - tossup between a and b largely to do "i wanna go back in the dungeon and do dungeon stuff"
