  1. >It was extraordinarily early in the morning.
  2. >Not even the birds had awakened to begin their war of songs.
  3. >Despite the quiet, the Loud House had a row in progress.
  4. >"Lucy, let's go!"
  5. >Lori dragged the reticent 8 year old across the lawn.
  6. >"Vampires of Melancholia comes on soon! Unhand me foul creature!"
  7. >There was a marathon that had been happening all week.
  8. >"You literally need more sun! Let's go!"
  9. >Lucy had monopolized the TV, and the rest of the family had enough.
  10. >"Nooooooo!"
  11. >Lucy attempted to claw her way to freedom, but failed as Lori finally threw her into Vanzilla and locked the door.
  12. >Lucy began to cry.
  13. >"I literally don't care! We are going to have fun today and you are going to like it!"
  14. >And with that the venerable old van peeled out onto the road and into the nearby wilderness.
  15. >"...Where are we going this early in the morning? There are still monsters about."
  16. >Lori then realized that despite the half a pallet of sunscreen and the yearly pass to the lake for recreation, she had no idea what they were going to do.
  17. >"It's a surprise."
  18. >Lucy said nothing.
  19. >As they passed the boardwalk on the van, Lori saw the perfect outing for them.
  20. >She parked the van and ran to the supply store, returning with an armful of rods and coolers.
  21. >"We're literally going fishing!"
  22. >Lucy couldn't believe it.
  23. >"Bring the sunscreen, and quick! The boat literally leaves in ten minutes!"
  24. >Lucy refused to believe it.
  25. >Even when they were on a large ferry-like boat that smelled of chewing tobacco and the taint of the deep ones.
  26. >She could barely recognize the fellow passengers' speech as human.
  27. >Was this some sort of trick?
  28. >Did that being she summoned a few weeks ago bring her to an alternate dimension?
  29. >And who was this fellow with the distended abdomen?
  30. >"Hi, are you Hank?" Lori asked the stranger.
  31. >"Yes I am! Jeff n' Bobby tol' me that you two girlies never fisht before. Well don't worry, I'll make sure you don't leave here without a little extra knowledge in your heads."
  32. >"Is this some sort of trick. Lori would never take anyone fishing."
  33. >"It's no more a trick than the sky is green, lil' miss. Now, let's see... this rod'll do for you..."
  34. >Thriugh the rest of the day, Hank taught Lori and Lucy basic fishing tips, how to prevent the line from tangling, and what to do in case they got stranded on the water.
  35. >It was close to 6 pm when they finally hit the shore.
  36. >Lucy's legs buckled under the uncertainty of solid land.
  37. >"You were literally so awesome! Thanks so much Hank!"
  38. >"It's no problem! Any friend of Bobby's is a friend of ours!"
  39. >Lori couldn't believe how much fun she had for only fifty bucks.
  40. >She felt like she was walking on air.
  41. >Unless that was the ginger pills and dramamine she took before she went on the boat.
  42. >On their way home, Lori looked back at Lucy to see how she was doing.
  43. >She was asleep, fast asleep.
  44. >Smiling all the while.
