Orphaned high school student Rick Riker is bitten by a radioactive dragonfly, develops super powers (except for the ability to fly), and becomes a hero.
Sometimes I have a soft spot for movies like this. I admit I do. But I honestly can't for a millisecond either recommend this to anyone who likes/loves spoof movies or just want a couple of laughs which is a no-brainer as far as comedies are concerned but they could do better than this. To a certain extent, some are willing to give the benefit of a doubt, though mostly squarely on this one because such arguments often warrant it. On the other hand, you could do worse in a much recent AND similar movie like...for example "Meet the Spartans". The less said about that one the better (this is to those who are still reeling from the aftermath of said movie). There are tons of poke-fun-at-moments in Superhero, but they're mainly aimed at Spider-Man; obviously a "revenge" of sorts, especially Spider-Man 3, the only thing in this movie I can give credit for. However, this film, ultimately, is guilty of the usual suspects of its predecessors: Cookie-cutter-comedy syndrome on a conventional level of ordinary American cheese. If you can't see past the truth that is so blatantly in front of you at face value, then you either need glasses or are just out of touch with reality COMPLETELY.
This is one outrageous satire on all those superhero films Hollywood has been inundating us with over the past decade and a half. On hiatus from his Nickelodeon series Drake and Josh, Drake Bell makes an appealing superhero who just can&#39;t quite get his act together.<br/><br/>Usually on Drake and Josh, Bell leaves the comic stuff to his stepbrother on the series, Josh Peck. In Superhero Movie, Bell shows he also has a flair for comedy that&#39;s not just confined to playing straight man for Peck.<br/><br/>It&#39;s also the culmination of a remarkable story of recovery. A couple of years ago Bell was seriously injured in an automobile crash and for a while there, flirted with paraplegia. Seeing him in a very physical role is both heartwarming and inspiring.<br/><br/>Bell got a nice ensemble group to support him, including Marion Ross and Leslie Nielsen as a pair of frisky senior citizens who are Bell&#39;s aunt and uncle. And there was an actor named Miles Fischer who looks like Tom Cruise&#39;s doppleganger, I swear I thought Cruise was making an unbilled cameo, Fischer did him so well.<br/><br/>And you have to love a film where the villain is given the &#39;Douchebag of the Year&#39; Award. Not a great film, but very funny.
How can you tell the target age for Superhero Movie is exactly 13 1/2 years? Because most of the jokes are Internet-related.
The Extended version of Superhero Movie features not only some more violent scenes but also several new dirty jokes that aren&#39;t included in the theatrical version. Altogether this adds to a total difference of approximately 6 minutes. Just in case you&#39;re a fan of this movie the Extended version is worth a try.
