Examples being the airplane, going from fabric wings and propeller engines to turbojets and aluminum alloys; the tank has also had major strides in development, with new composite armor materials and auto loading cannons. Another military technology that had an emergence in use during WWI is the auto-loading handgun, a handgun that loaded cartridges into a single chamber automatically after each shot using a reciprocating mechanism. Auto-loading handgun designs such as the 1911 and Luger P08 seeing widespread use in WWI by the US and German armies respectively. However, handgun technology hasn’t seen anywhere near the advancement seen in tanks and airplanes, with the vast majority of handguns used today using a very close copy of the short-recoil mechanism found in the 1911.

Some of these designs to see emergence during WWI is Luger P08
