To quote my first email, where I have answered this question:

Reading the email would have informed you that your registration was not fully complete. I'm sorry we could not assist you, but all of the registration requirements were clear on the website, and registering 2 hours before the deadline does not leave much time to correct any issues that arise.

Yes, you should have received that email for creating a registration, not necessarily for payment. The last paragraph of the email you just quoted is exactly the same as what I quoted in my email.

As stated on the registration requirements for the competition, registrations are only complete and accepted with valid payment. We do our best to reach out to competitors with unpaid registrations in the days leading up to the registration's close time, but I saw that your registration was created 2 hours before the registration's closure time, which did not allow us to send you such a reminder before the deadline. I'm sorry for the confusion regarding this situation, but since you never had a valid, complete registration, we cannot accept you into the competition as it is after the deadline. Hopefully we will see you at another NW competition in the future.

It is not the organizers' job to notify competitors that payment is still needed. Competitors are responsible for paying and cannot expect to be reminded. It is very easy to check the WCA site and see if you are completely registered for a competition, and it shows when you are just on the waitlist.

I understand you don't have much experience with competitions, and like I said, I'm very sorry about this situation. I hope you understand that I have taken a sizeable amount of my own time looking in to this and responding to your emails, doing my best to help. I know you're upset, but lashing out won't help anything. I hope I have given you all the information needed to not find yourself in this situation again.

I am adding Kit Clement (the WCA delegate for the competition) to this conversation. Maybe he has some additional input.

Why would you send a confirmation email?  A confirmation of us not being registered?  If the registration wasnt complete why were we not notified before now when its too late?  This is the third competition we have signed up for and this is the first time this has happened.  I took a day off work to take my son so mow I am missing a day of work and a,day of commision.

This is so unprofessional!!!  Rediculous!!!  You just cancel us without notice?  You are not helpful at all...

I think the confirmation you are referencing is the original email that is sent when a competitor is added to the waiting list. This does not mean the registration is approved. Another email is sent when the registration is accepted.

I deleted the competitors that were on the waiting list (because they had not paid) either last night or this morning because the registration deadline had passed, and that is what triggered the email that was sent to you more recently.

I'm sorry that I'm not able to help out more.

Sorry you missed the deadline. I highly recommend paying registration fees right when you register to avoid forgetting about them. If you pay the fees then your registration will be approved (assuming your registration meets all other competition requirements) and you will be good to go. In this case, your registration was never approved because you never paid the fee.

There are some other competitions coming up in the area (Rose City 2018 in Portland still has a few days left to register) and hopefully we'll see you at some of those (and we'll definitely host more OSU competitions in the future).
