15 years ago, a mother lost her child in a kidnapping case. A similar crime happens again and she won't let him go this time.
This is my first review after rating thousands of movies. I&#39;m very found of Korean movies after watching Oldboy several years ago. However, this is not a mainstream Korean movie, at least not in countries like Greece. Mont-ta-joo is a surprise for me since it is not as popular as other Korean movies (oldboy, memories of a murder, madeo etc.) but it is a great movie! <br/><br/>The plot of the movie is ingenious with several upsets and with great acting (and not overacting). During the whole movie I could not take my eyes from the TV, trying to realize who could the kidnapper be. This is not just another kidnapping movie; it presents the drama of the victim and her agony, while it reveals slowly evidence about the conclusion of the case keeping tension at high levels during the whole movie. It also presents the investigators of the case as real people making mistakes and being affected by the victims.
I have seen lots of Korean movies (especially thrillers), but this time I didn&#39;t know what to expect, because it&#39;s a debut for the director, who is also the writer (which is always a bonus for me). I had some difficulties following the time line due to the high usage of flashbacks, but in the end, everything connects (almost) perfectly. In fact, that&#39;s the beauty of the conclusion, because I didn&#39;t see it coming, but it didn&#39;t feel forced in any way. It reminds me of &quot;No Mercy&quot; (Yongseoneun Eupda, another Korean hidden gem)a bit, though it&#39;s quite different. I didn&#39;t have a problem with the moral of the story, mainly because it felt natural for me. Acting, direction and photography were solid (as is usually the case with quality Korean cinema).
