Quick hints:

If your game doesn't launch, try unplugging controller from your PC
If your workers don't work after update, please save the game and load it after restart.
In each city you can grow your influence by using Political Gossips only only up to a certain point. After that, you grow your influence for example by putting decorations from this city.
