  1. The two of them under the stars, in the middle of the desert...in November. Tara makes a note to never ask Gene for date ideas again. Nonetheless she hoists Piper up the large rock and beside herself.
  2.
  3. "You're not cold, dear?" Piper looks over at the shaman sitting from across her in a meditative stance. Both her eyes are closed in deep thought.
  4.
  5. "Mmh, no. I frequent this spot. I'm used to the cold." Nights in the desert could and did get freezing sometimes, but that was something familiar to Tara for as long as she could remember.
  6. "Good for you, I'm a bit chilly myself." Piper shivers for demonstration and laughs. Her blue dress doesn't offer much against the breeze. However, Piper can feel warmth seeping from the rock beneath her.
  7.
  8. (She'd like to lie down and soak in the warmth, however that wouldn't look too proper now would it?)
  9.
  10. "...you said you came here often?" Piper shifts in her spot to face Tara, still meditating.
  11. Hm, wouldn't be too proper to ignore her guest. "Yes. It's quiet. I come here to read or if I need a place to think." Tara opens her eyes, fixing her gaze above. The stars glint over their heads like diamonds catching light.
  12.
  13. "...tonight is an auspicious night." Tara states, staring at one point in the sky.
  14. "It's the...Leonids, right?" Piper remembers reading about it in the newspapers earlier. A meteor shower.
  15. "Hell if I know." Gene was the astronomer between the three magicians. It befitted him, who took his power from the stars.
  16. The shaman's answer makes Piper chuckle at its directness. "Wow, awfully honest of you."
  17.
  18. Tara finally faces her guest for the first time. "I came here to focus my energy. Perhaps the stars will gift me fortune."
  19. "Oh? So why did you drag me here with you?" Piper asks, stifling a yawn.
  20. "The stars are clearer here than in town. You wanted to watch the shower, yes?"
  21. Truth be told, Piper was planning to tuck in early, as she always does. But the sniper never turns down invitations from the shaman. So when Tara asked if she would like to spend a few hours out in the middle of nowhere, well, how could she refuse?
  22.
  23. Tara closes her eyes once more.
  24. Piper decides to stop talking, and the pair settles into a comfortable silence.
