What is Survival Mode?
The name comes from Ape Escape 3, which is the "NG+" of that game, but it has a few twists that spruces up the gameplay. Not all of it reflects on this run in Ape Escape 1 becausse of the tools, but close enough!


You start with all your gear unlocked


There is no quota in the stages. You have to exit the stage yourself after you catch all the monkeys! (Right now there's a chance to get kicked out by the game, this is random).


Ape 3 specifics that aren't translateable here: Getting full guided/rocket pellets in every stage. But you get so much per monkey catch that it evens out. And you SHOULD start with 0 lives, but since dropping in a pitfall erases an entire stage, call this balancing.

Another "shortcoming" is that the first 3 levels are unlocked from the start, but this is done on purpose by the developer. 


Installation
Necessities:

Latest Archipelago 0.6.1 at least
Ape Escape Apworld
Generated File (Should be pinned in the Discord)
Your US Rom of Ape Escape
Bizhawk (I use 2.9.1 myself, but newer should work). There is no way to do another emulator, just know this.

Download the Setup.Archipelago.0.6.1.exe and just install it.

Then download the Apworld, and you'll get an apeescape.apworld file. Best way is to open the Archipelago Launcher, then click "Install APWorld" on the left, and then the file).

After this, open up Bizhawk and set it up (select your legally acquired BIOS, controls etc).
To get a run started


Go to archipelago.gg and press start playing -> host a pre-generated game -> upload the Survival Mode.zip you got from us. Then press "Create New Room". You see here that your name is "saru" and the port number on the last row of the text (for example 44267, you can see it behind archipelago.gg:44267). Remember this.


Open Bizhawk and open Ape Escape. After that, go to Tools -> Lua Console. From here, Script -> Open Script. If you installed Archipelago to the default location, the file you need is C:\ProgramData\Archipelago\data\lua\bizhawk_generic.lua. If you did this before, it's under File -> recent scripts -> the one mentioned earlier!


Open Archipelago Launcher, and open the "Bizhawk Launcher" on the right side. From here, make sure you connect to saru:[email protected]:XXXXX, where XXXXX is the port number. This should just work


That's it! Press new game, and go fast, eat spaghetti!
