  210. ================================================================================
  211.
  212. Hard Drive Space
  213.
  214. Windows will require additional free hard drive space for its operating system
  215. (virtual memory). If you encounter the following message in an error dialog:
  216. "Ran out of virtual memory", free up some more hard drive space.
  217.

  220. saved games.
  221.
  222. If you have Battlefield 2 installed to a different hard disk than where you have
  223. Windows installed then approximately 375Mb (full patch) or 100Mb (incremental patch)
  224. of the required free space must be available on the hard disk where Windows is
  225. installed.
  226.
  227. To install Battlefield 2: Euro Force you will need approximately 800Mb free hard
  228. disk space plus space for saved games.

  290. as per current design.
  291.
  292.
  293. KNOWN ISSUE
  294. ATI CROSSFIRE CARDS
  295. - CROSSFIRE cards with 256 Megs of memory, running in CROSSFIRE mode will run out
  296. of memory at very high resolution settings. On very high resolutions, such as
  297. 1920x1440 with 6x antialiasing. In CROSSFIRE mode the ATI drivers are more
  298. restrictive about where resources are allocated, and as a result run out of
  299. memory sooner than with a single board. This running out of memory causes the
  300. device context creation to fail. The result is that the game just sits in a
  301. loop with a black screen. If you experience a context creation failure change
  302. your resolution to a lower setting (e.g. 1024x768 or even lower).
  303.

  471. ================================================================================
  472.
  473. To install Battlefield 2: Special Forces you will need approximately 3.0 GB free
  474. hard disk space, plus space for saved games.
  475.
  476. In addition to the installed game, Windows will require additional
  477. free hard drive space for its operating system (virtual memory).
  478.
  479. If you encounter the following message in an error dialog:
  480.
  481. "Ran out of virtual memory"
  482.
  483. Free up some more hard drive space.

  530. in the game world.
  531.
  532. * This prefix does not change your account name or statistic
  533. information (e.g. the prefix does not appear next to your name
  534. on the leaderboards).
  535. * You can change this prefix at any time at the account login

  572. based on the out-of-bounds area so that only the playable area
  573. takes up the majority of viewable map space.
  574. * The names of CPs are now displayed on the spawn menu / commander
  575. map and minimap
  576. * The minimap zoom level now changes dynamically depending on the

  999. - VoIPEnabled
1000. Enables VoIP in Battlefield 2.
  1001.
  1002. - VoIPServerRemote
1003. Enable this if you would like to run VoIP via a remote server.
  1004.
  1005. - VoIPServerRemoteIP
1006. Enter the IP address of the remote VoIP server.
  1007.
  1008. - VoIPServerPort
1009. Specifies the Battlefield 2 server socket used to communicate with the
  1010. Remote VoIP Server.
  1011.
  1012. - VoIPBFClientPort
1013. Specifies the Battlefield 2 client socket used to communicate with the
  1014. Remote VoIP Server.
  1015.
  1016. - VoIPBFServerPort
1017. Specifies the socket on the Remote VoIP Server used to communicate
1018. with the Battlefield 2 client and the Battlefield 2 server.
  1019.
  1020. - VoIPSharedPassword
1021. Here you can specify a password to be used to access the VoIP server.
  1022.
  1023. - VoIPQuality
1024. Here you can specify the VoIP quality. Higher values will increase
1025. the quality of the transmitted sound, and will also require more
  1026. bandwidth.
1027. - LAN servers started via the front end have a default quality setting
  1028. of 5, the highest.
1029. - The Battlefield 2 Server Launcher defaults to a quality setting of 3.
1030. This is best for internet games. For LAN games you can increase this
1031. to improve the transmission quality.
  1032.
  1033.
1034. The Battlefield 2 Standalone VOIP Server can be installed on a separate
1035. machine by following the install procedure; select custom install and
  1036. select BF2 VOIP server.
  1037.
1038. You may need to edit the 'voip.con' file on the standalone VoIP
1039. server. By default this file contains:
  1040.
  1041. 55125 no_password
  1042.
  1043. - '55125'
1044. This is the default port assignment the Battlefield 2 Server will use
1045. to communicate with the Standalone VoIP Server. This number must match
1046. the one in VoIPServerPort, set in the Battlefield 2 Server Launcher.
  1047.
  1048. - 'no_password'
1049. This password must match the one set in VoIPSharedPassword in the
  1050. Server Launcher.
  1051.
  1052.
  1053. MULTIPLE INSTANCES
  1054.
1055. You can have multiple instances of the Battlefield 2 Server connected to
1056. the Battlefield 2 Standalone VoIP Server. To do this you must ensure
1057. that each instance connects via an unique port. For example:
  1058.
  1059. - Instance 1
  1060. VoipServerPort 55127
  1061. VoipBFClientPort 55128
  1062. VoipBFServerPort 55129
  1063.
  1064. - Instance 2
  1065. VoipServerPort 55130
  1066. VoipBFClientPort 55131
  1067. VoipBFServerPort 55132
  1068.
  1069.
  1070.
  1071. ========================================================================
  1072. BATTLE RECORDER
  1073. ========================================================================
  1074.
  1075. USAGE
  1076.
1077. The BattleRecorder allows a round to be recorded and distributed.
1078. The system is very flexible, and the current implementation can be easily
1079. changed. We recommend you have a good knowledge of Python before you
1080. edit the scripts used here.
  1081.
  1082.
1083. There are two components to BattleRecorder. First is the Dedicated Server
  1084. Launcher.
  1085.
1086. The Dedicated Server Launcher requires the following information:
  1087. - AutoRecord
1088. Set AutoRecord to on to enable the BattleRecorder. Every round played
1089. on the server will now be recorded to a file.
  1090.
  1091. - DemoDownloadURL <http://YourServer.com/YourDirectory/>
1092. This is the URL that will be passed to all the connected clients at the
1093. end of the round. This is the URL that the Battlefield 2 front end will
1094. try and download the demo file from when the user selects 'download'.
1095. The demo file must be in the directory specified in the URL, or the
  1096. demo download will fail.
  1097.
  1098. - AutoDemoHook <adminutils/demo/Your_Script.exe>
1099. The server runs this script at the end of every round where AutoRecord
  1100. is enabled.
  1101.
  1102. - DemoQuality <value>
1103. You can control the quality of the recording made by the
1104. BattleRecorder. '1' is the default setting, and we recommend this is
1105. used for internet games. '10' is the highest setting, using this will
1106. increase the size of the file by around a factor of 8.
1107. Higher settings will also increase the load on the server.
  1108.
  1109.
1110. The second component to BattleRecorder is the script that is run when a
1111. round ends. This script can be rewritten or replaced as needed. The
1112. Battlefield 2 server will simply attempt to execute the script specified
1113. in AutoDemoHook at the end of each round.
  1114.
1115. The default script, called auto_rotate, was written in Python and then
1116. built in to an executable.
  1117.
1118. The Python script can be found here \adminutils\demo\rotate_demo.py
  1119.
  1120.
1121. The script will move a BattleRecorder file from the server to a new local
1122. location, or to an FTP site. You can also specify the number of files to
  1123. keep archived.
  1124.
1125. The script is configured using a configuration file, called
1126. 'auto_rotate.cfg', found in the root of the Battlefield 2 installation
  1127. root directory.
  1128.
1129. In this file you can configure:
  1130.
  1131. - file_limit = <value>
1132. Use this value to set the number of BattleRecorder files you would like
1133. to keep available. The default is 30. Once the limit is reached, a new
1134. file will replace the oldest one.
  1135.
  1136. - target_root = <local directory path>
1137. If you intend to transfer to a local directory, enter the path here.
  1138.
  1139. - use_ftp = <bool>
1140. Set this to 1 if you wish to FTP the DemoRecorder file to a new
  1141. location.
  1142.
  1143. - ftp_target_dir = <path to webroot demos>
1144. Enter the path on the FTP site where you want the DemoRecording
  1145. transferred to.
  1146.
  1147. - ftp_server = <server URL or IP>
1148. Enter the URL or IP of your FTP server.
  1149.
  1150. - ftp_user = <FTP login username>
1151. Enter your FTP sites login username.
  1152.
  1153. - ftp_password = <password>
1154. Enter the password for your login account.
  1155.
  1156.
  1157. NOTES
  1158.
1159. - BattleRecorder will significantly increase your server's load.
1160. Therefore we do not support 64 player games with the BattleRecorder
  1161. feature enabled.
  1162.
1163. - BattleRecorder files become larger as you increase the number of
1164. players and the ticket allocation. For a round with 64 players with
1165. 250 tickets on each side, you should expect a file size of around
  1166. 10-12 Mb.
  1167.
1168. - When you download a BattleRecorder file, using the 'Community' function
1169. in the Battlefield 2 front end, it is saved in:
  1170.
  1171. \My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\Demos\
  1172.
1173. Every profile on your computer will save BattleRecorder files to this
  1174. location.
  1175.
1176. It is possible to download BattleRecorder files from a friend or
1177. website and copy them into the BattleRecorder directory above. They
1178. will then appear on the 'Community' page for you to play.
  1179.
  1180.
  1181. PLAYBACK
  1182.

  1329.
  1330. - DXT TEXTURE SUPPORT
1331. Disabling DXT Texture Support on ATI Video Cards can result in
1332. Battlefield 2 failing to start.
1333. We recommend DXT Texture Support is enabled.
  1334.
  1335. - CHANGING DISPLAY MODE
1336. Occasionally on some video cards you may be allowed to set the
1337. display mode to one not supported by your computer. This will result
1338. in a black screen being shown. To remedy this use the Windows
1339. Explorer to find and delete the directory:
  1340.
  1341. \My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\
  1342.
1343. This will reset your game to the default settings. You can

  1420. - SELECTING A SOUNDCARD
1421. If you have multiple soundcards installed on your computer, you can
1422. specify the one you would like Battlefield 2 to use, by using the
1423. Windows Control Panel. Open 'Sounds and Audio Devices' and then
1424. select the 'Audio' tab. From the drop down lists, select the sound
1425. card you would like to use.
  1426.
  1427. - AUDIGY CMSS 3D
1428. If your Audigy card supports CMSS 3D it should be disabled when
1429. using the Software Audio Renderer option in the Audio menu.
1430. Otherwise you may experience poor quality sound.
1431. It should be enabled when using either the Hardware Audio Renderer,
1432. or the Hardware Audio Renderer with EAX Enabled, in the Audio menu.
1433. CMSS 3D can be enabled and disabled using the "EAX Console" that
1434. came with your sound card.
  1435.
  1436. - CREATIVE AUDIGY 4
1437. There is an issue where, if you are using an external volume
1438. control with your Audigy 4, and adjust the volume while Battlefield 2
1439. is running, your computer could crash. This issue is related to the
1440. 05/04/28 Beta Drivers. We highly recommend you check the Creative
1441. website for a driver update.
  1442.
  1443. - CREATIVE AUDIGY 2
1444. Users of the Creative Audigy 2, that wish to play with the Microphone
1445. Boost option on, may find that this setting is not saved when
1446. previously enabled in Battlefield 2. Resolve this issue by using the
1447. Windows Volume Control to enable Microphone Boost.
  1448.
  1449. - VoIP [BattleCommo]
1450. Some soundcards might transmit static even when there is no
  1451. microphone attached.
1452. This may cause the game to behave as if there was a microphone
1453. attached - the BattleCommo icon will become visible, and muted.
1454. To solve this, set the BattleCom Transmit Threshold in the Menu
1455. to the highest possible value.
  1456.
  1457.
  1458. NETWORK CARDS
  1459.
1460. - AlienWare PC's with Marvell Yukon Network Adaptor
1461. If you are using a Marvell Yukon network adaptor you may get the error
1462. message 'Could not find socket'. To work around this issue disable the
1463. card and use the nForce card that came with your AlienWare PC.
  1464.
  1465.
  1466. OTHER ISSUES
  1467.
  1468. - DELL 8400 Systems
1469. There is an issue, unrelated to Battlefield 2, that occurs on DELL
1470. 8400 Systems; when the onboard SoundMAX audio is enabled and there is
1471. a Sound Blaster Live 24-bit sound card (Model 0401) installed.
1472. A work-around for this issue is to disable the SoundMAX audio in your
  1473. computers BIOS.
  1474.
  1475. - JOYSTICKS
1476. Battlefield 2 does not support using a joystick connected to
1477. your computer via a joystick port built-in to your sound card.
1478. We recommend you use a joystick that connects to your computer
  1479. via a USB port.
  1480.
  1481.
1482. CHANGES IN HARDWARE AFTER INSTALL
  1483.
1484. - Problems with PC hardware changes after you have installed
  1485. Battlefield 2.
  1486.
1487. If you change your video or sound hardware to a lower specification
1488. after you have installed Battlefield 2, you may not be able to
  1489. start the game.
  1490.
1491. To remedy this use the Windows Explorer to find and delete the
  1492. directory:
  1493.
  1494. \My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\
  1495.
1496. This will reset your game to the default settings. You can
1497. now start the game, retrieve or create a new profile, and re-adjust
1498. the settings using the Menu as normal.
  1499.
  1500.

  1535. Other Issues
  1536. ========================================================================
  1537.
  1538. ALT+TAB
1539. - Using the ALT+TAB key combination to switch between applications may
1540. cause problems. We do not support the use of the ALT+TAB function.
  1541.
  1542. BFHQ ACCOUNTS
1543. - Please note: You are unable to change the nickname you chose when you
1544. initially created your BFHQ account, as well as your email address or
1545. password. If you need to change any of these you must create a new
1546. BFHQ account using a new email address.
  1547.
  1548.
  1549. PUNKBUSTER
1550. - If you are playing Battlefield 2 with a limited user account within
1551. Windows XP, PunkBuster may disconnect you from the server. We
1552. recommend you use an Administrator account when playing on an internet
  1553. server with PunkBuster enabled.
  1554.
  1555.
  1556. VIDEO QUALITY SETTINGS
1557. - The word 'LIGHTING' is used in the front end Video Options page. This
1558. setting also controls the use of normal maps in the game. On the
1559. 'MEDIUM' setting normal maps are used on static objects only. On the
1560. 'HIGH' setting normal maps will be used on soldiers and vehicles also.
  1561.
  1562.
  1563. KEYBOARD CONTROLS
1564. - Some PC keyboards cannot recognize certain combinations of 3 or
1565. more simultaneously pressed keys. This is an inherent problem
  1566. unrelated to Battlefield 2.
  1567.
  1568.
  1569. NOSTROMO N52
1570. - If you have started Battlefield 2 via the software bundled with the
1571. Nostromo N52, you may not be able to uninstall the game until you
  1572. restart your computer.
  1573.
  1574.
  1575. BATTLE RECORDER
1576. - When playing back a recording: the maximum fast forward speed you
1577. can achieve will depend on the power of the processor in your
  1578. computer.
1579. You may notice that with a slower processor, different fast
1580. forward settings appear to move at the same speed.
  1581.
  1582.
  1583. USB HEADSET
1584. - If your USB headset becomes unplugged during play sound may not be
1585. restored when you reconnect it.
1586. If this occurs you must restart Battlefield 2 with the USB headset
  1587. connected.
  1588.
1589. - Unplugging or plugging in a USB headset while Battlefield 2 is
1590. starting up can cause undesired effects. We recommend that you only
1591. plug in or unplug USB headsets while Battlefield 2 is not running.
  1592.
  1593.
  1594. STARTING BATTLEFIELD 2
1595. - Battlefield 2 only supports being started via the shortcuts provided
  1596. with the title.
1597. Starting via any other method may result in unsupported behavior.
  1598.
  1599.
1600. COMCAST & VERIZON DSL SUBSCRIBERS
1601. - Users that have Comcast or Verizon DSL connections may be unable to
1602. host a server. Please contact your service provider.
