  19. The room goes silent.
  20.  
  21. JACK NELSON (mid-40s) holds a briefcase and walks through the
  22. door.

  24. PARKS (CONT’D)
  25. You know, sweetheart. I'm not
  26. really in the mood for pranks, you
  27. get that right?

  29. Nelson reaches for the TV remote next to Parks and turns it
  30. on.

  32. JONATHAN STANTON, (mid-50s) approaches a podium.

  35. Thank you all for coming out this
  36. morning. I am Lieutenant Jonathan
  37. Stanton with the Phoenix Police
  38. Department.

  56. The reporters hush.

  58. Stanton takes out a paper and glances down at it with an
  59. anxious sigh.

  61. LIEUTENANT STANTON (CONT’D)
  62. It is with a heavy heart that I
  63. announce that we lost one of our
  64. own tonight. Officer Lance Hawkins
  65. was pronounced dead on scene... His
  66. field training officer, Officer
  67. Parks had been struck by four
  68. rounds, two hitting his vest.

  70. Parks buries his head in his hands. Tears run down his eyes.

  72. LIEUTENANT STANTON (CONT’D)
  73. (on tv)
  74. ...It is thanks to two armed
  75. bystanders that Officer Parks can
  76. live to fight another day-

  79. He- He's joking. That's bullshit.
  80. He's gotta be joking, this is a
  81. sick god damn joke and everyone's
  82. laughing at me!

  84. A moment of silence between all three.

  90. Elena has a look of concern as she places her hand on Parks's
  91. back.

  94. He wasn't in pain was he?

  96. Nelson shakes his head.

  100. instantly.

  114. He wipes off another tear and tries to mouth something, then
  115. stops and takes a deep breath.

  121. He knocks over the table next to him and begins to sob.

  123. PARKS (CONT’D)

  126. NELSON
  127. There's nothing you could've done
  128. about it, the reason you're alive
  129. is because two people happened to
  130. see what was going on and stopped
  131. it.

  133. Parks reaches for the trash can next to him and vomits into
  134. it.

  141. He stops for a moment as a group of shadows form behind the
  142. covered observation room.

  144. The door opens as SERGEANT STEELE, (mid-30s) comes in. He
  145. wears an "Internal Affairs" badge.

  147. Parks spits into the trash can.
  148.  
  149. STEELE
  150. Run me through it again, Parks.
  151. Piece by piece.
  152.  
  153. He throws a file folder at his feet.
  154.  
  155. Parks stands up.

  160. Nelson stands up and almost blocks Steele. He looks back at
  161. Parks.

  165. recovery to figure out what's going
  166. on. Sergeant, you make another move

  170. He points at Parks.

  174. statement.

  176. Parks nods.

  181. He reaches for the change of clothes with his badge and gun
  182. still on them.

  189. JAMES O'REILLY, (28) argues with two police officers.

  192. He knows me. Look, I served with

  196. IND POLICE OFFICER 1

  203. Parks bursts out the door, a cast in his left arm.

  216. Both of the officers take a step back and look at James.

  225. Dave just nods at the officers and waves them off. They nod.

  248. something, but nothing manages to come out.

  252. A text appears. The contact reads, "Interested Party".

  254. A photo of him with James and Elena coming through the doors
  255. with James talking to the police.

  257. INTERESTED PARTY (TEXT)
  258. Officer Parks, we have a
  259. proposition for you. Please meet us
  260. on the third floor of the parking
  261. garage. Come alone.

  263. Parks glances at Elena.

  267. guys get to know each other, I'm

  290. He takes a deep breath as he looks at the floors.

  300. The doors open as Parks inches out, gun in his hand.

  303. EXT. GARAGE - DAY

  305. He checks the outside.

  309. The ramp going to the third floor materializes as he peers
  310. over.

  312. He makes his way over. A group of black suburbans are parked
  313. there.

  315. In the middle of it, a group of men in suits.

  317. The one in the middle JASON WHITE, (43) rolls his eyes.

  320. Come on now Officer, there were
  321. other ways we could've dealt with
  322. you. At least listen to us before
  323. you start shooting.

  325. Those around him reach for their weapons.

  327. WHITE (CONT’D)
  328. Gentlemen, he has one arm and
  329. there's six of you. It wouldn't be

  346. He glances behind him at another individual in a suit. He
  347. glances at ANTHONY, (mid-20s).

  355. Anthony walks to the back of a suburban and comes back. He
  356. carries a briefcase.

  361. modified form of PCP.

  363. White opens the briefcase.

  365. WHITE (CONT’D)
  366. He's being healed up in a known
  367. Sinaloa Cartel safehouse. Do we

  370. Parks just slowly nods.

  372. He closes the briefcase and passes it to Parks.

  377. White's side packs up and leaves Parks alone with a metallic
  378. briefcase.

  380. Parks stands there, briefcase in hand.

  382. FADE TO BLACK.

  385. EXT. PARKING LOT - DAY

  387. Parks walks back with a briefcase.

  389. James cocks an eyebrow.

  394. Parks shrugs.

  396. JAMES (CONT’D)
  397. The feds give you that?

  402. It's information for a case. That's

  409. Parks rolls his eyes.

  434. INT. PARKS'S HOUSE - AFTERNOON

  436. The briefcase sits on Parks's wooden kitchen table.
  437.  
  438. James pokes the case with a pair of wire cutters.
  439.  
  440. Elena crouches behind a couch.
  441.  
  442. ELENA
  443. Why did you want me back here
  444. again? And why didn't you call the
  445. bomb squad?
  446.  
  447. PARKS
  448. So if it goes off, there's not
  449. pieces of me inside of you. Plus,
  450. they're not gonna come out here
  451. because someone gave me a
  452. briefcase.

  454. ELENA
  455. But I already get pieces of you
  456. inside me.

  458. PARKS
  459. Fuck, walked int-
  460.  
  461. James slams his hand against the top of the case.
  462.  
  463. PARKS (CONT’D)
  464. ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL US ALL?!

  467. Well we know it's not pressure
  468. activated if it is a bomb.

  470. PARKS
  471. YOU FUCKING IDIOT!

  473. ELENA

  477. James just shrugs.
  478.  
  479. Parks and Elena takes a deep breath.
  480.  
  481. PARKS (CONT’D)
  482. You were EOD right?
  483.  
  484. JAMES
  485. I was half the reason EOD came to
  486. talk to us back then, yeah.

  488. Parks unlatches the case and takes out a flashlight.
  489.  
  490. PARKS
  491. How'd they set these things up?
  492.  
  493. JAMES
  494. Damn things were rigged for a few
  495. inches, you pulled up and boom.
  496. Just look under it for wires.
  497.  
  498. Parks glances under it, opening the case just a crack. He
  499. shines the light around inside of it.
  500.  
  501. JAMES (CONT’D)
  502. Anything?
  503.  
  504. PARKS
  505. Negative, any clear string would've
  506. made a shadow too. Fuck it, I'm
  507. going for it.
  508.  
  509. He opens the case all the way. The files are stacked neatly.

  511. Elena emerges from behind Parks's couch.

  513. ELENA
  514. What is it? Anything solid on
  515. Lance?
  516.  
  517. Parks takes the case, turns it upside down, and dumps its
  518. contents on the table.

  520. He starts to spread its contents, across the table.

  523. Help me out with this you two.

  525. Elena makes her way over and the three start placing folders
  526. right side up.
  527.  
  528. David opens a file, on its cover reads, "DEPARTMENT OF
  529. HOMELAND SECURITY".

  531. PARKS (CONT’D)
  532. Holy fuck.
  533.  
  534. He flips through it. A few clusters of mugshots here and
  535. there, a few assorted file-
  536.  
  537. PARKS (CONT’D)
  538. I found him. The fucker who stabbed
  539. me.
  540.  
  541. He pulls a file out.
  542.  
  543. The top of the dossier reads "Enrique Torrez".
  544.  
  545. Gang Affiliation: "The Sentinel Cartel".
  546.  
  547. Parks's expression changes to that of anger.

  549. PARKS (CONT’D)
  550. I have to make some phone calls.
  551.

  553. EXT. WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
  554.  
  555. Four police cruisers and a SWAT van pull up to a warehouse.
  556.  
  557. The streetlights illuminate the grungy grafiti covered area.
  558.  
  559. Gang logos cover some houses, a few dumpsters are knocked
  560. over, some of the trash flying around.
  561.  
  562. Outside, the small amount passerbys, whisper to each other as
  563. the cruisers pull up with the team.
  564.  
  565.  
  566. INT. POLICE CRUISER - NIGHT
  567.  
  568. Parks sits there.
  569.  
  570. Stanton drives.
  571.  
  572. LIEUTENANT STANTON
  573. Four days. Someone tipped us off
  574. too when you put the pieces
  575. together.

  577. Parks just looks out the window. He's got a leather jacket
  578. on.
  579.  
  580. Stanton looks over at Parks.
  581.  
  582. LIEUTENANT STANTON (CONT’D)
  583. Should feel good though if you are
  584. right. Even if you're not it's a
  585. dent in the fuck up that was the
  586. ATF's schtick.

  588. Parks continues to watch as police MRAP stops.
  589.

  591. Won't do anything for Lance.

  593. LIEUTENANT STANTON
  594. We're gonna get these guys, kid.

  596. He steps out of the cruiser.

  598. Parks opens the door and watches as SWAT stacks on the door.

  601. EXT. WAREHOUSE - NIGHT

  603. One of the cruisers pulls behind the building, two others set
  604. up a perimeter and block the street.

  606. From inside the cruiser, Parks turns the police radio up.
  607.  
  608. Stanton lights up a cigarette.
  609.  
  610. The radio comes to life.

  612. IND SWAT OFFICER 1 (O.S.)
  613. Team one, team two, prepare to
  614. breach.

  616. IND SWAT OFFICER 2 (O.S.)

  622. Parks watches this.

  627. The SWAT team busts the door down. An officer throws in a
  628. flashbang.

  630. Parks places his hand on his holster.

  633. That doesn't sound good.

  636. Team two, one suspect down.

  638. More gunfire rings out from the inside of the warehouse.

  641. Team two has an officer down!
  642. Fucker used a table leg!

  644. The radio goes silent for a moment.

  646. IND SWAT OFFICER 2
  647. Stay the fuck down!

  649. Stanton takes a sigh, throws his cigarette on the ground, and
  650. gets on his radio.
  651.  
  652. STANTON
  653. 1015, requesting additional units
  654. and a bus to the warehouse on 19th
  655. and McDowell, code three, one
  656. officer down.
  657.  
  658. DISPATCHER (O.S.)
  659. 10-4, 1015. Any available units,
  660. 1015 requesting assistance at 19th
  661. and McDowell, multiple officers
  662. down.
  663.  
  664. The sound of sirens in the distance.
  665.  
  666. More gunfire breaks out.
  667.  
  668. IND SWAT OFFICER 2
  669. Multiple assailants with ARs,
  670. requesting additional! Fuck!
  671.  
  672. IND SWAT OFFICER 1
  673. Hey we got a suspect-
  674.  
  675. ENRIQUE TORRES, (30) jumps out of a window, rolls, and runs
  676. toward Stanton and Parks. He's covered in gang tattoos.
  677.  
  678. He's unfazed by someone who just rolled on glass.
  679.  
  680. PARKS
  681. Holy fuc-
  682.  
  683. He pushes Stanton aside.
  684.  
  685. Parks tries to raise his weapon with his hand and pull the
  686. trigger. Torres knocks his hand back. A look of anger appears
  687. on Parks's face.
  688.  
  689. PARKS (CONT’D)
  690. I'm going after him.
  691.  
  692. STANTON
  693. Parks-
  694.  
  695. Parks keeps his weapon pointed downward as he runs after
  696. Torres. He struggles to keep up, he's faster, stronger, and
  697. it almost looks like a breeze for him.
  698.  
  699. Torres glances back, sees Parks, and makes a turn.
  700.  
  701. Parks runs forward and tries to turn the corner, only to be
  702. met with two rounds passing his face.
  703.  
  704. PARKS
  705. Fucker!
  706.  
  707. Parks peers out of cover and takes two shots into Torres's
  708. back.
  709.  
  710. He just keeps running as the two rounds hit him in the back.
  711.  
  712. PARKS (CONT’D)
  713. WHAT THE FUCK?!
  714.  
  715. Parks continues to run forward, chasing him into an
  716. intersection.
  717.  
  718. Torres stops to assess the area and glances back seeing Parks
  719. and-
  720.  
  721. Before anything else can happen, a hatchback runs over
  722. Torres, knocking him to the ground.
  723.  
  724. Parks sees this and clutches his arm. He keeps his gun out as
  725. he runs over.
  726.  
  727. James gets out of the car.
  728.  
  729. PARKS (CONT’D)
  730. What the fuck...
  731.  
  732. Torres isn't getting back up, but he's still breathing. James
  733. is pointing wildly at Torres.
  734.  
  735. TORRES
  736. Fuck...

  738. JAMES
  739. He knows where they are!
  740.  
  741. Parks holsters his weapon and takes out his hand cuffs. He
  742. presses his knee against his ass.
  743.

  745. Grab his other arm.

  747. James helps him out and he manages to get them on him.

  749. TORRES
  750. You...
  751.  
  752. JAMES
  753. WHERE ARE THEY?!

  755. He flips Torres on his back.
  756.

  758. You fucking recognize me?

  760. TORRES
  761. Yeah, you should be dead.

  764. You'll be fucking dead if you don't
  765. tell me where they keep the cat
  766. girls!

  768. Parks watches a cruiser a few blocks away close in.
  769.  
  770. Parks glares at James.
  771.  
  772. PARKS
  773. I want answers.

  775. He takes out his badge and keeps it in the direction of the
  776. approaching cruiser.
