- Keldeo is a great user of Life Orb, dealing massive damage even with resisted hits coming off of a massive base 129 special attack stat. Keldeo's STAB moves are obvious, Hydro Pump and Secret Sword allow for great coverage, with hidden power Ice to OHKO Salamence, Garchomp, and Lando T. Keldeo does get access to Icy wind, but due to the damage reduction of spread moves, Icy Wind will not OHKO Garchomp in doubles, where Hidden Power Ice always will. Alternatively, you can run Hidden Power Ghost to hit psychic types (particularly Latios) but Ice is preferred. Politoed is an excellent teammate for this set, with rain allowing Keldeo to get OHKOs with Hydro Pump that it would't otherwise be able to achieve including Jirachi, Reuniclus, and even offensive Breloom. Scizor and Weavile are good teammates, being able to threaten psychic types that come in on Keldeo, Scizor in particular is a great choice if you're running a rain team.

- Although not as powerful as the Life Orb set, Choice Scarf Keldeo is a big threat to pokemon that either expect to take little damage from Keldeo, or outspeed it entirely. For this set I opted for Hidden Power Electric over Ice, while missing the OHKO on garchomp, you can now surprise OHKO Gyarados, who otherwise walls this set. Altenatively if you choose to run HP Ice, you will always OHKO chomp and outspeed & OHKO shaymin Sky 81.3% of the time, although I have found in practice that Icy Wind damage allows my partner to finish the KO before Keldeo is damaged. Tyranitar makes a great partner to this set, getting rid of Mega Charizard Y, and the Sun with the Sand Stream ability, and getting rid of psychics and Jellicent, which threaten/wall this set (Hidden Power Electric is a 6HKO on specially defensive jellicent). Politoed is again the number 1 teammate however, bringing in rain and giving Scarf Keldeo the power boost that it really needs. Follow Me/Rage Powder users are also appreciated to give Keldeo a chance to take out multiple targets before it is taken out, however if you can remove the threats to Keldeo, this set has very little trouble sweeping teams late-game.
- Spex (Keldeo) @ Choice Specs
- Ability: Justified
- EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
- Timid Nature
- IVs: 30 SAtk
- - Hydro Pump
- - Secret Sword
- - Hidden Power [Electric]
- - Icy Wind / Surf
- Choice Specs Keldeo is different from the above sets in that it is not made to sweep teams, rather than power through defensive walls. 99% of the time with this set, you will be using either Hydro Pump or Secret Sword, and Gyarados will always be OHKOd by HP Electric. Offensive Politoed variants will also be 2HKOd by HP Electric, who otherwise doesn't fear Keldeo. You can also run HP Grass if you want to hit Gastrodon, which is not as common as the other 2, but will commmonly switch/stay in on Keldeo. The moveset for Specs Keldeo is not set in stone so feel free to experiment and allow Keldeo to smash threats that you cant get through with your other teammates. It is better to fit Specs Keldeo into a team rather than build a team around it, but speed control by Icy Wind users like Cresselia or Thunder Wave/Follow Me users like Jirachi and Togekiss are appreciated a lot by this set. Politoed also makes a good partner to all Keldeo sets simply because of the added power that Keldeo gets from rain.
- 252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hidden Power Electric vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Politoed: 196-232 (60.8 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
- Fast Utility (Keldeo) @ Sitrus Berry
- Ability: Justified
- EVs: 112 HP / 144 SAtk / 252 Spd
- Timid Nature
- - Quick Guard
- - Scald
- - Icy Wind
- - Taunt
- Utility Keldeo is perhaps not the most viable set on Keldeo, but it is definitely one of the most unexpected, Quick Guard is particularly useful for this set, because Keldeo is commonly the target of Talonflame's Brave Bird and Mega Kangaskhan's Fake Out. Taunt is to stop annoying pranksters like Klefki and Meowstic, as well as Trick Room Setters. The EV spread allows Keldeo to OHKO Chandelure with Scald, with max speed and the rest into bulk to give Keldeo that extra longevity. This set pairs well with anything that like speed control or a burned opponent, so Haxorus and Hydreigon make great partners, both also appreciating the prior damage Icy Wind gives to other dragon types. Other teammates include Aegislash who can OHKO most common Trick Room setters after they have been taunted and are exposed to being hit.
- Checks and Counters
- Slowking stands out as the best counter to Keldeo, walling all of its sets bar HP electric variants, and being able to threaten Keldeo with Psyshock, as well as being immune to taunt thanks to the buffed Oblivious ability. Amoonguss also does well at stopping Keldeo, being able to come in on its attacks and regain health upon switching out with Regenerator. Latios/Latias and Celebi can generally switch into Keldeo and threaten with a psychic attack. Mega Charizard Y can use Drought to not only weaken Keldeo's Water attacks, but also threaten Keldeo with a no-charge Solarbeam. No matter how fast Keldeo is, it will always fear Talonflame's priorty Brave Bird thanks to its Gale Wings ability. Non scarf Keldeo should also fear being killed by commong scarfers like Rotom-Wash, Terrakion, and Thundurus. Mega Venusaur can threaten Keldeo with one of its Grass STAB moves, and is neutral to Ice attacks thanks to the Thick Fat ability. Finally, Weakness Policy Dragonite does well against Keldeo, taking minor damage from Keldeo's STAB moves, and usually being able to get a Weakness Policy boost because of the bulk Multi Scale provides, even against Ice attacks.
