Aside from single-album releases which are brand-new albums that no one else has ripped, I try my best to ONLY rip great albums. For every album I upload, I've filtered through 20 or 30 mediocre ones.

There are a lot of subgenres involved, everything is under the electronic genre, and it's generally split into:
Hardcore, Happy Hardcore, Trance, Gabber, Hardstyle, and NRG.

For my top five albums of all time are:
01. Nanosecond Eternity - Betwixt & Between (NRG & Darkstep) [It's really aggressive though, not an entry album]

02. Fractaline Gift - Kefy (NRG & Darkstep)

03. Vibration of Womb - Mohican Sandbag (Psytrance, House)

04. Crimson Hardcore - REDALiCE (Hardcore, Happy Hardcore)

05. Shot Bass Idiots - Loss Time [Hardcore, Gabber, a little of everything]

You can't go wrong with pretty much ANY album by Hardcore Tano*C (Hardcore Syndrome series is a yearly release of all their artists coming together for a best-of-the-best mashup).

If you like really beautiful music, I recommend Trancer's Dolls and Cristierra by SHIKI, Subsequence - Curled Coil, or AD:TRANCE by Diverse System. If you can't find them, I can reupload them.

If you want something fun to listen through on loop for a few hours (long workday), try Japanese Hardcore Sampler - DJ Wildparty, Ways For Liberation - kors k, or beauty:burst - 2010.5 DJmix by Traffic Jammies.

If you want something to make you drive 100MPH on the freeway, listen to Driven' De:st-ructure or CORE X SKETCH!.

If you want your mind blown while you sit on your bed in the dark, Nanosecond Eternity, Gift - Kefy, or Theta Complex 2 (would probably be #6).

There is more to creating uploads than just ripping. Ripping, scanning, cropping images, ID3 tags, then, uploading from my crappy home connection to the seedbox, which takes an entire day for three albums, writing a description, configuring trackers, and finally, uploading to torrent indexers.

Three are on the seedbox, one has been fully uploaded, and there are three more awaiting a rip. I'll keep working on it throughout the weekend, though I'll be mountain biking all of Saturday.

Allkore may not be a label based in Japan, but they regularly have contributing artists who are from Japan. Noizenecio, Thanatos, Myosuke, Traffic Jammies, all Japanese artists, create singles for their albums. Niteflare (German) is another example of this, with tracks by Japanese artists like DJ Shimamura or kors k.

Heck, even Hardcore Tano*C has Joshka (U.K).

I use group buys. Though there is often a large markup, about $10/disc on top of cost and shipping, I do get my discs. For six albums and shipping, I paid ~$180, but hey, convenience has a fee. Here was the page for the C82 Doujincore buy:

You'll have a lookup form you scan through, a massive google-docs spreadsheet, often posted on /jp/, and search for the albums/circles you are interested in. The list is rapidly updated about 2-3 weeks prior to the event. So it's usually panic-mode for ordering because announcements for sale are decided so late. Here is an example, this was M29's release list:

Then you punch the album info and price into an order-form Doujincore provides. Once it's confirmed, you'll get an e-mail, and then send the payment through PayPal. 2-4 weeks later, you get your discs.

The easiest option, is a reseller open to the USA, like http://j-core.biz/ or http://www.guhroovy.com/ or mydjsobad (currently down... usually down). J-core.biz works and is in the USA, guhroovy is hosted in Japan and releases first, but the guys who handle the orders have trouble translating -- every order has had at least one wrong disc.

The second easiest option, is to buy directly from the artist. Bandcamp is wonderful, though most Japanese artists use Beatport. Artists list their purchase sites on their personal-page, and almost every album has a site to go with it.

Some companies don't have an order form for overseas, Japan only. In those cases, I have a buddy translate for me to request a one-off order, which is basically e-mail correspondance over address and what albums.

I have never used a proxy service before, but I may start in the future because group-buys are so expensive. J-core.biz is fantastic, but the selection is only big-name albums.

Finally, some of the Japanese music discussion/trading sites, like bemaniso.ws or even Doujinstyle (which is hated by the j-core community for some reason). I'd suggest going in their IRC channels and asking for any trusted purchasers -- a proxy service, but just a single person rather than a company. Usually cheaper too. Doujincore has a list of company proxy-services if you're interested.

Basically... no.

The factors in an audio chain are: Source (FLAC/MP3) -> DAC (Digital Audio Converter, turns 1s and 0s into a electrical waveform) -> Headphones. If you've got a crappy source (128kbps), having a great DAC or headphones won't help. The DAC makes a massive difference. If you've got $600 headphones and ALAC, but you're playing from an iPod with a junk DAC chip, it will sound mediocre. The whole chain has to be equal.

From personal tests, and tests with friends also owning nice equipment, none of us have been able to tell the difference between FLAC and a V0 MP3, though I could consistently (85%) detect 192kbps, but I had to REALLY focus.

The main reason releases are in FLAC, is to prevent loss in conversions. If you like MP3 192kbps (V2), great, convert from FLAC -> V2 MP3. If you use ogg, then great, convert FLAC -> ogg. It's also used for archives, it is exactly the same quality as the CD, just, 1/2 the space. When the next big thing comes around, you don't need to re-rip.

However, converting from MP3 320 -> AAC 256kbps, you just dropped the real quality to about 192kbps. There is a very large amount of loss when going from lossy -> lossy.

Also, there is zero reason to use MP3 320, ever. V0 sounds exactly the same (exactly, it will boost to 320 if it needs to) at about 60-70% the space.

My DAC + Amp + Headphones were only a few hundred dollars, nothing too crazy. There is a definite quality difference between lossless and lossy, it's as clear as night and day to me. That being said, a lot of doujin music (especially SKETCH UP) has horrible mastering and sounds like 64kbps realmedia. I wish some of these Japanese "DJs" would learn proper mastering.

It's only been a full day since the end of M3-30, albums will slowly flood onto Nyaa, PerfectDark, and sows. Also, some .ttas have from PD have been uploaded to Nyaa, likely the same source the V0 MP3 rips are from.

So I'm looking for more stuff like DJ Noriken's Lucent, Goreshit's Raped by the Ninja, FTFX's They Take You, and Shingo DJ's My Friends Have Been Eaten. If you're willing to settle for less-than-FLAC, to just get to hear and enjoy them, I've got 1-6 in mostly V0,

The exceptions are Vol 3 which is 192kbps, and Vol 2 is VBR2 (~192kbps).

I'm talking about the community at large, not just this thread. The majority of lossless rips posted in this thread are from other places, not the from the poster. They're all also very common rips, available at many different sites. I'm just trying to encourage people to buy and share, instead of relying on handouts.. Teach a man to fish etc.

Sounds like you've got a warped view here. We may be pirates, but the concept of giving back still exists.. and it sounds to me like you're doing a lot of taking and not giving any back. That's fine, live off the limited handouts you get here forever. I'll be contributing things I buy and getting access to stuff you'll never have. That's how it works in the doujin scene. If you want to get into hardcore, I recommend starting with the founders of the genre, like Bad Brains, Black Flag, and DOA. Then move on to the basic major names, like Minor Threat and Cro-Mags. Then go for more modern stuff, like Verse, and even some semi-mainstream stuff, like Have Heart. It might also be worth dabbling in powerviolence - I recommend Despise You.
