  1. >In our bones, we knew the war was almost over.
  2. >Remnant held its breath, waiting to see which side would make the final daring move.
  3. >As fortune would have it, Atlas moved first.
  4. >After the General informed the Haven Council that General Smith and the Opp leaders were hiding on Vacuo, Commander Kobi gathered an army large enough to capture three continents.
  5. >When the orders reached the 106th, our morale soared.
  6. >For better or worse, this would be the beginning of the end.
  7. >We piled as many men into a half dozen Cardinal-Class Cruisers as we could, and soon were underway.
  8. >Our invasion force quickly arrived, but we held just out of range while Kobi went ahead to make sure that the Opp General was there.
  9. >When the order came in, we quickly boarded the nearest Atleasian Toucan-130 and readied ourselves for the final fight.
  10. >If we won this, we'd win the Color Wars.
  11. >Losing this battle would lose us the majority of our fight force, and we'd be crushed in an instant.
  12. >So we prepared ourselves to win, no matter the cost.
  13. >As the doors of the ship opened, we stepped out into what can only be described as hell.
  14. >The Color Nazi's were dug in well, and the majority of men that had landed before us were already down.
  15. >My squad quickly got off the ship and secured a downed pillar for cover.
  16. >We had hardly made it when a rocket came out of no where, blowing up our drop ship.
  17. >We ducked behind our pillar as fire and debris rained down on us.
  18. >Not everyone was lucky enough to survive.
  19. >Then again, maybe they were the lucky ones.
  20. >When the dust cleared, we started returning fire, lobbing grenades, anything to make some progress and extend our hold on Vacuo's capital.
  21. >The fighting continued for what seemed like days, but was only a couple hours.
  22. >We managed to press the Opps' back and capture an entire block.
  23. >Fighting building to building, we slowly cleared them out and rescued what civilians we could.
  24. >Every now and then, one would try using one as a hostage to escape.
  25. >Every time, their cowardice made my blood boil.
  26. >Luckily, the 106th had the highest accuracy in the sims of any regiment in Atlas's history.
  27. >Not a single civilian was killed by our hands.
  28. >Eventually, we managed to hook up with Commander Kobi's brigade just long enough to see him fighting with General Smith.
  29. >The Opp General used a bizarre fighting style, wielding a sword in each hand, as well as with his mouth and even stranger, with his leg.
  30. >The man was like a whirling dervish of blades, but some how, Kobi was able to not only hold him off, but beat him.
  31. >We weren't around to see the end of the fight, so I can't say how it happened, but goddamn if that wasn't the best news of this war.
  32. >After pressing the Nazi's out of the city, we managed to regroup and prepare to liberate the rest of Vacuo.
  33. >But without their strategic genius, their hopes for winning this war were all but dashed.
  34. >With the death of General Smith at the hands of Commander Kobi, the Vacuo raid had broken the back of the Oppressionists.
  35. >Under normal circumstances, it would have been a time for celebration.
  36. >But our next orders put paid to those thoughts.
