Gauss cannons were too awkward to fire with real accuracy from a standing position, so Fred and Linda would have to rise above the smoke, mark the target on their HUD, then drop back to their bellies and brace the M68s on the preconstructed barrel supports in front of their scrapes. The software in their Mjolnir’s onboard computers would automatically adjust the HUD marker to account for their movement. But they would still be firing at the target manually, through blinding smoke.
