- Bio:
- Kress (full name Kressara) was the eldest child of three sisters born in Menelea. Her mother worked in the local tavern, and her father was a knight, like his father before him. His name was Morton, and he was a high ranked knight, who was assigned to protect villages near the capital from bandits and any other threats. He was famed for his skill with a lance, and while he was not particularly agile, he was revered as one of the mightiest knights in the land.
- One day Morton shirked his knightly duties and let a pack of vicious bandits loose upon a nearby village, after receiving a bribe from the leader of the group. While he only opened the gate and turned a blind eye, this was enough to have him condemned to death.
- This caused tremendous suffering for the rest of the family, as their neighbours shunned them, and in two brothers whose father had been killed in the raid almost burnt their house to the ground. Torn by grief, her mother eventually took her own life. This left Kress and her siblings to fend for themselves, now lacking even the meagre income that their mother brought in.
- Kress in particular was shook by her mother’s death, practically losing the ability to function. Her youngest sister, Arina, stayed at her side and took care of her, leaving Melisande - the middle sibling - to resort to prostitution to support the family. When Kress found out, she was horrified. This new-found knowledge acted as a sort of reality check for her, and she set out to look for work, so Melisande wasn’t forced to continue her work.
- She had little success however, but eventually found work as a knight. While there were doubts, and old friend of her father’s put in a good word for her and she began her training. While she made progress, she found herself constantly compared to her father, but she wanted nothing to do with the murderer. She pursued a completely different fighting style than her father, focussing more on agility than on raw power. This also made her unwilling to use a lance in almost any circumstance, concentrating on her swordplay instead.
- She did struggle slightly however, due to her tendency to hesitate at leaping into harm’s way. While others called it as cowardice, this was not entirely the case. She knew that her sisters were depending on her, and that they needed her to stay alive. Protecting the motherland was good and all that, but her survival was much more important. She didn’t want to leave her sisters alone, like their parents had left them.
- She was mostly sent on non-combat missions, and was eventually reassigned to Fort Kesseling to act as a vassal for Prixima. This happened four months ago, and she hasn’t seen her sisters since. She’s hoping that she can go home and see them within the next few weeks, and hopes that her income is helping to keep the family afloat.
