  1. # DOAXVV for Penguin Enthusiasts
  2.
  3. Apr 29 2025
  4.
  5. ## Prerequisites
  6.
  7. I used Lutris with GE-Proton9-27
  8. - You can use your own favorite wine + tools if you want, just figure it out
  9.
  10. DMM Game Player was at version 5.4.3
  11.
  12. ## Procedure
  13.
  14. ### DMM Account
  15.
  16. Skip this if you already have a DMM account
  17.
  18. 1. Have a Japanese VPN
  19. 2. Go to https://doax-venusvacation.jp/ and create an account
  20. 3. Look for a button that says download in hieroglyphics ("ダウンロード"; ctrl+f this if it moves)
  21. - (currently this is a big badge with a blue outline on the bottom-right)
  22. 4. A pop-pop will ask you to choose between launching the DMM game player and downloading it. Choose download
  23. 5. You will be taken to an account page where you can sign up for an account and then download the launcher
  24. 6. Put the installer somewhere on your PC
  25.
  26. ### The actual setup
  27.
  28. 1. In Lutris, click the plus button to add a new game
  29. 2. Choose "Install a Windows game from an executable"
  30. 3. Follow the instructions, obviously point Lutris to the DMM installer
  31. 4. When going through the Lutris instructions, make sure to set a Wine prefix that you'll remember
  32. 5. When it finishes, rename this game "DMM Login". You can disable all the GPU tweak crap in Lutris
  33. - Gamescope, Esync, Fsync, AMD crap, Anti-Cheat, Mangohud, etc. are not needed for now
  34. - If you don't disable gamescope the launcher will be fullscreen which will look like shit
  35. 6. In a file explorer, navigate to the newly-created wine prefix
  36. - Copy the path to the DMM executable: "drive_c/Program Files/DMMGamePlayer/DMMGamePlayer.exe
  37. - (don't just copy mine; make sure to find it yourself in case it changes)
  38. 7. Edit the launcher in Lutris and set the executable to this path
  39. 8. If you don't have your VPN running, start it now
  40. 9. Run the launcher
  41. - If it doesn't launch something is broken, check the logs
  42. 10. You will see an orange login button. Click that and a DMM login page will open in your browser.
  43. 11. At this point, your browser might ask you to open a link in DMM Game Player, but it probably won't work
  44. - If it somehow does work, skip to step 17
  45. 12. The page in front of you should have a button in the middle to open the DMM app.
  46. - If you hover over it and check the link, it should be taking you to `dmmgameplayer://view/page?code=<code>`
  47. 13. Right-click the button and copy the link
  48. 14. Edit the launcher in Lutris again. This time, paste the link in as an argument to the executable
  49. 15. Close the DMM launcher, then re-launch it with Lutris. You should now be signed in
  50. - If you are not, check the logs, complain, etc.
  51. - If you ever end up needing to log back in, follow steps 9 - 15 (overwrite the old `dmmgameplayer` argument)
  52. 16. Fiddle around with the DMM launcher and find DOA XVV.
  53. - Click the "Store" (ストア) tab
  54. - Search for Dead or Alive
  55. - Figure out where the "purchase/install/add to account" button is
  56. 17. Go to the "My Games" (マイゲーム) tab
  57. 18. Hover over DoA and try to install it.
  58. 19. You'll probably get a tiny message that looks like an error.
  59. - I am doing this off memory since I can't repeat these steps
  60. 20. Look for a link or something related to the error, maybe a popup.
  61. - It is asking you to validate your account before you can play.
  62. - If you find the right link, your browser will open and you can validate your account
  63. 21. Once that's complete, you should be able to install
  64. - You might need to close and open the launcher
  65. - Leave it at the default install path unless you really know what you're doing
  66. 22. Now that the game is installed, close the launcher. Don't start the game yet
  67. 23. In Lutris, right-click the Launcher and click "Duplicate"
  68. 24. Name this "Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation" (or whatever you prefer)
  69. 25. Keep the executable pointed to the DMM launcher. Set the arguments to `dmmgameplayer://play/GCL/doaxvv/cl/win`
  70. 26. This should have all the bells and whistles enabled in Lutris
  71. - So turn on Esync, Fsync, Gamescope, Mangohud, etc., whatever works for your system
  72. 27. Launch this game and it should start with no issues. The game should open after the launcher
  73.
  74. ### TL;DR
  75.
  76. All in a single wine prefix:
  77. - Install DMM
  78. - Launch it and click the login redirect
  79. - copy the `dmmgameplayer` protocol link from the page, re-launch DMM with the link as an argument
  80. - Try to install DOA, notice an error, find a link to validate your account from a popup or something
  81. - Install DOA successfully and you're done
  82.
  83. ## Mods
  84.
  85. The path to the game directory is in your wine prefix at:
  86.
  87. `drive_c/users/steamuser/DOAX-VenusVacation/`
  88.
  89. Mods all worked out of the box for me following the instructions on the mod page, except for CostumeCustomizer.
  90. My game crashes with a Vulkan error when CC is enabled
  91.
  92. Mention Doug in the thread if you want to troubleshoot
  93. - Doug
