Reasoning:
Xic engaged Ryu for his own reason, mostly because he wanted to know what's gotten into that woman who suddenly started killing her friends. The fight was quick and Ryu made short work of Xic in literal seconds upon the match starting, it was upsetting and pride crushing for the demon.

Xic didn't believe the man to be powerful, but he couldn't sense his energy for whatever reason and this upset the Pride demon. During the same scene he noticed a Saiyan producing just as much Malice as a demon normally would. He figured he somehow came in contact with demonic energy.

This upset him a bit more than he expected and to finally be tossed away from the scene, offered pity for being crushed by the man known as Ryu. Xic knew what he was and what he needed to become we're far out of his grasp, but he has the power to change that or attempt to change that.

Moment:
Attempt to save the crazy Swordswomen from Ryu resulting in Xic getting turned into a  puddle while the demon underestimated the man he was somehow still alive. He knows that Ryu was too powerful to deal with now, and he's been training the others to handle demons easily.

While Xic was spared this time for whatever reason, it doesn't mean next time he'll survive in a fist fight with any one of them and while being tossed away into a river he knew what needed to be done.

He needed to bring forth that same energy as the Saiyan before him, and crush any hope the mortals have of defeating the demons in any way, form, or fashion.
