10. IEDs
11. 1. If a possible IED is discovered Immediately call out over radio with direction and location. Watch for Ambushes.
12. 2. As EOD you will mark up its location with 3RED X's from spray can (trying to keep them obvious in a semi-circle)
13. 3. Do NOT attempt disposal methods unless it is vital that the IED is to be removed.

17. Minefields
18.
19. Navigation of Minefield
20. 1. If you must move through a minefield you as EOD specialist will be on point.
21. 2. You will mark any mines in path with 3RED X's from spray can trying to keep them obvious in a semi-circle.
22. 3. While moving through mark route with GREEN X's starting in safe area, attempt to place them in clear, visible locations about every 5-10 feet (Watch for grass etc. that might conceal markers)
23. 4. If a dead end is encountered and you have to double back, follow the route back you just took until you can find alternate route. Once new route is started block off previous route marked in green with 3RED X's crossing over previous path.
24. 6. If It's nighttime or in dark areas where spray paint is not clearly visible then use mine marker flags and Chemlights to mark and/or illuminate a mine or IED
25.
26. Minefield Casualties
27. 1. If casualties are sustained while in minefield you will need to clear a path for recovery
28. 2. Once friendly forces have setup a perimeter proceed to clear the path to the casualty.
29. 3. Once casualty is reached retrieve him and withdraw to safer area do so immediately
30. 4. Casualties are a priority to get clear of minefield as medivacs etc. are not possible here, do not fear pulling back to safer area along marked route.

33.
34. Remember if possible, avoid IED's/ minefields all together.
35. RED X's are bad, GREEN X's mark safe route.
36. Always notify via radio about any encounters.
37.
38. Explosive Ordinance
39.
40. Setting Explosives
41. 1. Set the demo block in the optimal place to maximise effect on target
42. 2. Either set the timer to 30+ seconds or connect to your firing device
43. 3. When you are setting off the demo block call out on radio “Controlled Det” then in how long “in T minus 30 sec” then “15 sec” then someone who has visual on the explosion calls “good det” followed by a BDA (Battle Damage Assessment) or “nothing seen”
44.
45. Setting Mines
46. 1. Request Permission from Mission Commander if use of mines hasn't been stated, and alert local ground forces within 1Km
47. 2. The EOD specialist will set the desired mine in optimal position
48. 3. Clearly mark on map where and what mine it is, then get someone on the long range radio to state "Attention all call-signs this is G-X-X, mine/s set near map marker X and marked on map" and confirm acknowledgement with local ground forces within 1Km
49.
50. Disposal
51.
52. Disposing of Explosives
53. 1. Identify the kind of explosives being disposed of
54. 2. Clear the area of friendlies and civilians, friendlies hold a safe perimeter
55. 3. Choose method of disposal, whatever is appropriate, try to minimise damage to infrastructure
56. - Defusal (needs to be EOD Specialist)- crawl up to the explosive with weapon on back at max defusal range perform defuse, slow rate of crawling from 3m, once complete pick up the explosive if possible and store in vehicle or backpack
57. - Controlled detonation- crawl up to the explosive and place a demo block within 1.5 meters, crawl back to safety and set off the explosive following procedure
58. - Destroy in situ- using a higher calibre weapon HMG or GMG ideally, tap fire 1 shot at the explosive at a rate of 1 shot per 3-5 seconds, if the shots are observed hitting the explosive but not setting off the explosive another method may be required
