- We can always give the wishes some depth once we develop the girls themselves. The wish itself determines the girl's special brand of magic: Sayaka, Yuuri, and Yuma all had wishes geared towards healing others and thus they gained healing magic, though Yuma and Yuuri could use it on others while Sayaka was Wolverine without the claws. Kyouko wished for her father to gain followers to preach to and she ended up with illusion/clone magic. And then there's Saki, who wished for her sister's favorite flower to bloom forever, which gave her manipulation over her bodily functions to the point where she was harnessing the electric signals in her body into lightning generation.
- There's also the theme hanging over the wishes provided by the Incubators: it's not that they sabotage the wishes, but rather, the ones doing the wishing are allegedly not always honest about what they really want. Haruka, for example, wanted her older sister gone out of jealousy, but came to regret it later while Sayaka's wish to heal Kyousuke lacked the thanks she was secretly expecting. And who can forget the aftermath of Kyouko's wish; y'know, I can't understand why her father went that far off the deep end, why someone so loving and caring could be driven to what he did. But the last thing I want to do right now is instigate THAT type of discussion
- "cough" You likely know all of this already. Do we start giving the girls personalities to help develop said wish? If so, who do we start with first?
- 4d, 6h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Incubators are like the Mirari; they give you what you want, not what you need. Though at least the Magic Mirror Ball didn't encourage people to misuse its power...
- As for who to develop first, any of them seem like a good starting point. Given the nature of the wishes, it seems like some of the wishes might have ripple effects that could lead to other girls making wishes. (Exactly as planned. /人◕‿‿◕人\ ) I suppose the biggest question is who comes first. I'm thinking the Izzet.

- Several Magical Girls weren't exactly saints, which I feel is a part of the reason why Sayaka's idealism suffered.
- Izzet it is!
- ......how do we do this? I mean, how do we combine our ideas to make Izzy-chan into a teenage girl? I have an idea as to what may spur her wish, but I wanna hear your idea too.

- She's definitely a nerd. Like, a huge nerd, especially science and science fiction. She dreams of being on the cutting edge, the very forefront of technological progress, paving the way to tomorrow. But her dreams are writing promises her brain just can't cash. She's not one of the AP kids. She's barely squeaking by in math, and science is just applied math. She has mountains of creativity; she could easily be the next Asimov, at least in terms of being a great sci-fi author. But she wants to make stuff, not just make it up. Enter the alien lifeform (Aliens exist!!!) offering her anything in the world (Sufficiently advanced technology!!!)
- 4d, 4h ago
- Speckle said:
- ....Holy smokes, that's pretty spot-on to what I was thinking: the geeky girl who wants to change the world, prove her smarts to a questioning parent, and yet falls flat on her face time and again due to both her own hampered learning and outside opinions. Possibly a less confident - and/or academic - version of Twilight Sparkle??
- So, is her wish to make new technology, not just getting smart? I could see her wearing gauntlets like I see the Izzet wearing in her MG form.
- 4d, 4h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I see her believing that once she had the intelligence necessary, she could take care of the rest.
- Step 1. Wish to be smarter
- Step 2. ???
- Step 3. SCIENCE!
- And yes, her magical girl outfit should definitely draw inspiration from Izzet guild aesthetics. I figured they all would have appearances based on their guilds. And electrogauntlets definitely seem like a viable option for her weapon, though laser cannons are also an option.
- 4d, 4h ago
- Speckle said:
- OoOoOo, how about both? The cannons can be her default while the gauntlets can be something she makes herself?
- I only know what I've seen from the card art and, if what I see is right, the girl who gets to be Azorius is gonna be buried beneath a bunch of robes ^^;
- A wish to change something about oneself: Kirika did that with her personality and was able to slow time around her so that she would appear faster. This time, it's intelligence. Personality is about perception (which fits with the time manip), so intelligence would be about....expectation?
- 4d, 3h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- We could always go the Iron Man route, have the beams come out of the palms or fingers of her gauntlets.
- And yeah, Azorius fashions are as restrictive as their laws. Though we don't have to hew exactly to the source material.
- Precognition would certainly work as a wish-derived power, perhaps as a sort of Laplace's-Demon-esque calculation of what's going to happen faster than it can happen. It would make her a truly devastating sniper; she'd just have to aim at where the target is going to be. (Also, Laplace sounds like a perfect name for the inevitable witch...)
- That ultra-high-speed thought would also be handy in general during combat. Being able to create and discard plans faster than most people can blink? Yikes.
- 4d, 3h ago
- Speckle said:
- Awesome :3
- Love the Iron Man Compromise. I say we do it
- Precog/Accelerated Probability is a really good idea, I like it :) The Sniper Unit. Now comes the aesthetics: Izzet's colors are blue and red and the symbol is that of Niv-Mizzet. Should we combine the two colors into purple or make them separate? I discovered that, in the Madoka-verse, hair color seems to denote costume color while the eyes match the Soul Gem, like with Homura, Oriko, and Kirika's cases. I don't know why, but I see our Izzet girl as a redhead. What do you think?
- 4d, 3h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I definitely like the redhead idea, as well as making the Soul Gem—and by extension, her eyes—purple. This is Madoka-verse, after all, so the usual anime biochemistry applies. Given the steampunkish Izzet aesthetic, the red may work best with copper and similar metals, especially with the gauntlets.
- As for the Gem's shape when transformed, I was thinking along the lines of the radiation hazard symbol. It's a rough correspondence to the Izzet signet, with two wedges acting as Niv-Mizzet's wings and the third as the tail, and it's both scientific and geometrically simple enough not to seem overelaborate. It should probably go somewhere on her head, given the cerebrally oriented wish. Perhaps on a headband or helmet of some kind?
- Oh, and we're going to need a name for this girl. Where on Earth is this set, again?
- 4d, 3h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Wait, no, I know exactly what headgear she needs: Lab goggles, or at least a visor using the same shape. With her Soul Gem right over the bridge of her nose. Tint them, so her weapon discharge isn't constantly blinding her.
- 4d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- How about a headband equipped with a visor over her eyes? That may be a bit much, though the Gem should definitely sit on top. Love the idea with the copper, gives her a more elegant look. Heck, it'll make her look more like Iron Man, in a way, which would be a great analogy.
- Radiation hazard sounds like a great idea; I never considered that about Niv-Mizzet. Wonder what would happen if anyone told him of the comparison? I hear the guy's vanity knows no bounds
- In the world of Madoka, it's claimed that Magical Girls are all over the world, though the franchise - save for Tart Magica, which is somewhere in France - takes place in parts of Japan. Wanna mix things up and put these girls in America? Or should we stick to the pre-existing formula?
- (btw, I'll be heading out for an hour on a doctor's appointment. I'll be back, though.)
- 4d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- In order:
- I'm imagining something similar to Sailor Mercury's setup, just with the rad-symbol Soul Gem separating the lenses. Because nerdy magical girl.
- Niv-Mizzet plus radiation sounds like a bad time for everything else. Frankly, I'm afraid to even contemplate it.
- Well, I know I'm more comfortable writing where I know, and that's the US.
- 4d, 47m ago
- Speckle said:
- First: I'm digging the Mercury Goggles setup. Marketing material for sure.
- Second: I second that!
- Third: US it is then! A staple in the Madoka-verse is that everyone's last name could be passed off as their first name, at least regarding Magical Girls and those close to them. I like to think that carries overseas, though that may be a bit much. As for name suggestions, how about Olivia 'Livvy' Hermione (means 'elf queen')? I know it's a bit on the cheesy side, but I have a tendency to lean towards cheese by default
- 4d, 41m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Hermione I like, but given the symbology and themes, I'm thinking Marie for a first name. Though note that this trend will be rather hard to pull off for ten girls, to say nothing of any secondary characters.
- On a semi-related note, how many witch forms should we design for these girls? A few, a lot, all of them?
- 4d, 31m ago
- Speckle said:
- Marie's good, let's keep it. And as for the secondaries......eh, they can have average names. It's the Ten that are the focals.
- Well, I suppose we could/should make all of them for good measure. I'm honestly not certain who's going to end up Witching out and who isn't. Sure, the transformation into a Witch is likely inevitable, but who knows if it's going to happen so soon. According to the Productions Notes, the Magical Girl who became the Witch Roberta was apparently in her 20s or 30s before she became a Witch.
- 4d, 18m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Well, I may have come up with tentative names for all of them. And design concepts. What can I say, I likes me some eldritch abominations.
- Azorius: Enma (Floating robe with moving Azorius symbol for a head.)
- Dimir: Fnord (Basically http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=366391]Consuming Aberration.)
- Rakdos: Saturnalia (Basically Avatar of Discord.)
- Gruul: Enkidu (Big feral animal of some kind. Lots of teeth and claws.)
- Selesnya: Belobog (Big tree with arms for branches, her territory consisting mostly of her own sprawling root system.)
- Orzhov: Keynes (Definitely made of gold. Not sure what else.)
- Golgari: Shelley (Main body largely immobile, defends self mostly through fungal familiars.)
- Simic: Lamarck (Lots of eyes and mouths and tentacles and claws and so forth. Even more melded with her territory than Belobog.)
- Izzet: Laplace (Vaguely draconic entity, mostly made of electricity. Claws and teeth are jagged metal.)
- Boros: Beowulf (Armored angelic figure made of fire.)
- 3d, 22h ago
- Speckle said:
- Lamarck sounds so Lovecraftian....I love it Floating robes and heads for the win And Laplace could be a dragonequis!
- So, we have Marie Hermione of the Izzet League; is she complete? Are we missing anything? I can play around with her family structure, if you wish.
- 3d, 22h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- She herself seems to be firmly established. We can worry about her ancillary characters in step two. Who would you like to develop as the next part of step one?
- 3d, 12h ago
- Speckle said:
- Well, I woke up today with an idea for Gruul, at least involving her wish: when she was little, there was an open field that she and her friends/brothers would play in. Some of their best memories were in that field. But then, one day, developers begin to build on it and all she can do is watch and cry as her beloved field goes away. Even as she gets older, she still resents the people who literally built upon her memories and wants nothing more for it to return to the way it was, for that stupid set of buildings to go away. And then along comes this little white alien who claims he can do just that....
- Does that sound Gruul-ish?
- 3d, 12h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Heck yes it does. Especially if she phrases the wish such that the Incubator can interpret it as demolition rather than simple reversion. And then Gruul-chan stares at the rubble, telling herself this isn't what she wanted, but deep in her heart?
- It is.
- 3d, 11h ago
- Speckle said:
- Squee!
- A part of me likes to think that the field will return on its own with the destruction of the buildings that stifled it, but I'm not an expert in that sense, so "shrugs"
- Now then! Time for personality-building. The stereotype is that all of the Gruul are primitive and do hulk-speak, but that can't REALLY be the case, right?
- 3d, 11h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Oh, it will. In time. Assuming no one tries to rebuild the place, which a certain magical girl will likely take steps to prevent.
- Oh, certainly not. Their shamans can be sophisticated, their [druids surprisingly philosophical. Red-green is as much a color pairing of eco-terrorism and flower power as it is "CRUSH THEM! WE EAT!" Honestly, I rather like the idea of Gruul-chan having an almost Fluttershy-esque duality to her, going between and, depending on her mood. Not quite the same levels of Disney princess, but still close to nature.
- That being said, her costume is probably going to be heavy on furs and animal-based decorations like claws and teeth.
- 3d, 11h ago
- Speckle said:
- OoOoOo, the field could be her 'site' or her base of operations when she's not out hunting Witches.
- I'm starting to like Gruul-chan in terms of envisioning her as Fluttershy :3 I've also been checking out the Gruul on The Gatherer and I took notice of how their female attire like Disciple of the Old Ways and Rubblebelt Raiders look like they're dressed up as Lara Croft with the halter-tank and short-shorts. I was going to suggest that as the basic design for her costume, but a furry-esque outfit sounds just as fun. PMMM seems to like showcasing catgirls, why not throw in a bunnygirl?
- 3d, 10h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Naturally. Squatting in the ruins like a proper Gruul.
- I was thinking something more predatory, but bunny could work. (Though we may have to change the witch name to Caerbannog. ) Rabbits are vicious little fluffballs; they can kick hard enough to break their own spines.
- As for weapon, I'm definitely thinking some kind of club or hammer. Maybe a bent girder topped with a hunk of concrete. (That's what it looks like, at least. It's as durable and magical as any other magical girl's weapons.)
- 3d, 10h ago
- Speckle said:
- I always envisioned bunnies as cute in the very beginning of my life....until I hit four/five and saw Watership Down; bunnies have never been so badass. I heard that they will even fight off birds of prey to protect their young. AND rabbits live in fields "puffs out chest like she knows what she was doing all along ^^;"
- A huge hammer sounds good, I like it. It seems to be a traditional Gruul weapon.
- And now comes the colors and Gem: red and green mixed together make brown when I tried it last. Y'know, there has been a Magical Girl of just about every color......except brown. Why doesn't brown get any love?
- 3d, 10h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Because people think it's boring. Brown isn't boring! It's just orange with life experience.
- Some red and/or green feather accents might be a good idea for the costume. Alternately, we could have—wonder of wonders!—a brown-haired, brown-eyed anime character. Dare we?
- 3d, 10h ago
- Speckle said:
- YES WE DARE! I've been wanting to have a Brown PM OC forever, but nothing I did ever turned out right. But THIS all brown bunny-girl might just be the diamond in the rough!
- OoOo, turn her into an Indian? Or maybe give her face-paint that's red and green? She'll definitely need those two colors to highlight her outfit. I'd use both colors in one. And if she's gonna inherit Gruul's battle fury, she'll likely be up-close and personal with her opponents, so her Gem has to be in a safe place. Maybe near her lower back? What should the shape be?
- 3d, 8h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I like the war paint idea.
- As for the Soul Gem, I'm thinking a rough, irregular form that just happens to resemble a certain symbol. Probably more the fire part than the tree. As for where to put it? I was thinking her right biceps, but I like the lower back. Excellent for a face-to-face fight, but vulnerable to trickery. Suitable.
- As for the ramifications of the wish, wishing for destruction seems like it would lead to strength, both physical and magical. Going up against Gruul-chan isn't going to be pretty: broken bones, burn scars, and so forth.
- 3d, 7h ago
- Speckle said:
- Elemental magic seems to be rare, as the Souju Twins had it in the manga, but their wish involved their bodies merging into one. How that equals fire and ice magics, I dunno, and it's implied that Suzune got her fire magic by absorbing the power of a Witch (her magic is Absorption). Saki's electricity, I feel, is a pretty decent application of Function Magic. Arisa wished for the strength to face her bullies and got Super Strength and Speed. Red/Green, I discovered through research, enjoys making tornados out of fire, so how about a form of explosive force as her magic?
- So, a bunny with war paint and a hammer. THAT is scary
- Next comes the name. I don't know if it's because it sounds like 'ruin', but whether it's her first or last name, I'm placing Rue as my suggestion.
- 3d, 7h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Shockwaves definitely work. Especially if she's causing them just by hitting things.
- The name works for me, especially as a surname. I think the first should also be a monosyllable, possibly a shortened version of a longer name. A Beth, Jenn, Sue... Well, maybe not Sue. A rhyming name is a bit too cutesy. But that sort of thing.
- 2d, 9h ago
- Speckle said:
- Sorry I was away for so long; fimfic kept coming up as 'unavailable' yesterday >_<
- Shockwaves plus hammer equals badassary. Though we should probably make it a fact that it's her magic that's doing that and not her weapon, seeing as how Puella Magi weapons tend to have special functions themselves.
- How about Bethany 'Beth' Rue? :)
- 2d, 8h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Yeah, there was a DDoS attack. Some anti-brony script kiddie.
- The name sounds good to me. We seem to have Beth well established. It'd certainly be interesting to see her fight Marie, and if the two meet, they're definitely going to come to blows.
- 2d, 8h ago
- Speckle said:
- O.O
- We still have to establish where in the US each of the girls are; having some share the same territory would be plausible, but not all ten in the same county. That'd be a bit of a stretch.
- And so now we have both Izzet (Marie) and Gruul (Beth). Who's next?
- 2d, 8h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Hmm. Location is hard to say. Marie should probably be somewhere with good schools, Beth in a rural area transitioning to a more urbanized state. And we need to take time into account as well, especially if this predates the advent of Madokami.
- As for who's next? How about Simic-chan? Terminally ill girls seem like a standard target for Incubators.
- 2d, 8h ago
- Speckle said:
- Well, everyone else seems to prefer the time when Demons are about, but before Rebellion's shifted reality. You seem to like/want Witches for the girls, thus we're Pre-Madokami.
- Sure! Simic sounds like a fun guild to shift into a Puella Magi. But instead of an illness, what about something that affects the body in a way that makes her wish she could change it?
- 2d, 7h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- What can I say? I love the idea of magical girls becoming the very things they're trying to fight. And, again, big sucker for eldritch abominations.
- Hmm. There are a number of possible birth defects or permanent injuries to consider. We should probably focus on the symptom or symptoms. Paralysis, weak immune system, deformities... with a machine as complex as a human body, there are a lot of things that can go wrong. Heck, it may be as simple as diabetes, or even a food allergy. (Though not lactose intolerance. Don't want to tread on Charlotte's toes too much.)
- 2d, 7h ago
- Speckle said:
- Then we shall have eldritch abominations!
- "nods" People still argue if it was Nagisa/Charlotte who was the sick one or her mother, but the end result is the same: she became a Witch.
- Simi-chan needs to have a reason to want a new life, a new body, one so much better than the one she's got that no longer works. Simic, if I understand it properly, are all about improvement and sometimes they go overboard. There's a disease I've heard about that debilitates all the limbs, causing spasms and sudden stops, making the hospital a permanent home for you. I don't know the name of it, but it was in a couple of shows that I watched and the two who were afflicted were absolutely miserable until something changed (one became a cyborg, one became a ghost). Would that work?
- 2d, 6h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Something that causes epileptic fits? That would certainly work. A mind trapped in its own body, but still able to speak the wish. Furthermore, the wish would likely go make her go from no control over her body to perfect control of it. Not necessarily brain-lightning, but manipulation of her bodily systems could make her a terrifying juggernaut, to say nothing of the healing factor granted by a healing wish. It makes me wonder if her costume wouldn't be worn so much as grown...
- 2d, 6h ago
- Speckle said:
- Hmmmm, well, healing wishes almost always grant the wisher a body-manipulating power.....except for Satomi, whose wish to talk to animals somehow gave her Human Puppetry magic. Theories are that there are different limitations and applications for every brand of magic based on the nature of the wish itself. I'm for you Self Manipulation/Peak Condition magic, though I always figured that Magical Girls get that by default with their impressive feats of speed, agility, and roof-jumping. "shrugs" It's mostly a theory.
- Y'know, I almost thought you said gown, not grown.....which kinda gives me an idea: how about a floral-esque gown reminiscent of Fluttershy's Gala dress? Turquoise in color with pretty green accents?
- 2d, 5h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Even peaker condition. If most magical girls are Batman, raised to peak human condition, then Simic-chan is Spider-Man, going somewhat beyond that, but not to Kryptonian game-breaker levels. The story would be boring otherwise.
- I think the gown would work better for Selesnya. I mean, Fluttershy basically is a member of the Conclave. Simic fashions tend more towards organic patterns. Not the furs-and-leather look of the Gruul, but... well here's the link to the Gatecrash style guide. Of course, we haven't really explored Simic-chan's personality; she may fit the gown.
- 2d, 4h ago
- Speckle said:
- Hmmmm, quite right in terms of no exploration. Let's see to that first before we decide who wears a dress and who doesn't...
- If she's been in the hospital or just plain restrained/confined all her life until now, I feel like there'd at least be a depressed air about her. A restless feeling of wanting something she (seemingly) can't have?
- 2d, 4h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Before the wish, certainly. Afterwards? Perhaps she'll be ecstatic at her newfound freedom. Perhaps she'll be disappointed by it not being what she dreamed of (and after dreaming of it her whole life, how could it be?) Perhaps the medical staff, flabbergasted by her miraculous recovery, take the physical therapy nice and slow, driving her to distraction as they take far too long to accept the obvious.
- Actually, do the third, then the first, then the second, and we may have an excellent post-wish character arc. And then, once the bloom's off the rose, she discovers the adrenaline rush of fighting witches...
- 2d, 4h ago
- Speckle said:
- Now THAT is something I can get behind (character arcs are cool, even if I myself have no idea how to work them, I'm ever willing to learn!). ....Erm, but my way of metaphors are dusty. What does 'Bloom off the rose' mean?
- Oh, and I think you'll also get a kick out of this: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/259418/1/a-lovingly-crafted-lunch/a-meal-fit-for-a-god
- 2d, 4h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- It's an idiom meaning the novelty of something has worn off. In Simic-chan's case:
- "I can walk! I can run!"
- ...
- "Now what?"
- S̢̙̟̻͇K̞͎͍̖̱͡R̝̜͓̻̼E̛͎̞̰̣E̴̱̼̲̲̼̥ͅE͙̥̗̕E͈͔̥͍͈Ẹ̻͉͇̣̹E̛͉!͚̠̠̗̰̫ͅ
- "That works."
- Now, what she should fight with? I'm thinking either knives or punching daggers. Either way, a scalpel motif.
- And yes, A Lovingly Crafted Lunch was quite fun.
- 2d, 3h ago
- Speckle said:
- Ahhh "adds to list" Gotta remember that :)
- Well, in the designs for Simic, they seemed to fancy spears. So how about we take a page from the original Yuuri's book: we make the scalpel big enough to come off as a spear at first glance...until you take a closer look. And she can always summon multiple smaller scalpels to act as throwing daggers if she's too far from her target.
- People seem to love sticking Cthullu in Equestria. I saw another story that looked similar and added it to my Read Later. Wonder how many involve both Cthullu AND Pinkie Pie?
- 2d, 3h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Quite a few. Well, they involve the Mythos, if not big C himself. I personally recommend Pink and Yellow.
- A scalpel-glaive definitely sounds like a good idea. We should probably save the knife for Dimir. That said, we may want to have Simic-chan make a crack about "surgical precision" at some point. With her level of body control, the polearm won't be nearly as awkward as it would be for most people.
- On that note, how do you feel about Grace as a first or last name?
- 2d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- I think I might have read that.....
- We could have a 'Sailor Saturn' reference, though I'm thinking not so much purple as turquoise. Blue and green blend into it naturally, making it the perfect color for.....how does Sylvia Grace sound?
- 2d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Works for me. The Soul Gem should probably be positioned on the hip or outer thigh, emphasizing the mobility she got out of the wish. As for shape, a spiral seems appropriate.
- 2d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- A spiral sounds good, like Michiru's shape: both girls warped the rules of the human body and got a result that shouldn't have been possible. But anything is possible when magic is involved ;)
- Sylvia was pretty easy; we must be getting better at this Wanna do Dimir next? Or are you tired?
- 2d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Nah, I can keep going.
- With Dimir, I figure it's someone important, a celebrity or similar personality who's been drowning in the media almost from birth. And she's tired. She just wants a moment to herself, a bit of piece, room to let herself think. Enter the most cunning agent she'll ever meet, with a contract she'd be crazy to refuse.
- 2d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- Peace, not piece. But I digress.....
- And don't think it's just the media: think of what her folks would be like. Are they also celebrities? The basis of the wish if for time to herself and that's only if she never gets it at home, which is often a safe-haven for most. Does one or both of her parents try to capitalize on their daughter's fame? Are they supportive to the public, but jealous behind closed doors? I feel that the way they treat her might also have a hand in things, though I'm exactly sure how.
- 2d, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Sorry. I'm apparently having too much fun to catch all of my homophones.
- If she isn't part of an entertainment dynasty, then her parents are probably the stereotypical child star's parents, seeing their child more as a marketable product than a developing human being. I do not see this girl having a lot of faith in humanity.
- 2d, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- Have to agree with you there; I haven't had this much fun in God only knows how long This is the best!
- Thus adding totes of credence to the wish and possibly spooky repercussions, if you know what I mean. What might our fuzzy white alien with Blue and Orange Morality do to make Dimir's wish possible?
- 2d, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Hmm. Sudden cancellation of the show, abrupt and horrible deaths, banished to a parallel timeline where she was never famous...
- Well, maybe not that last one. Homura seems to be the only one pulling time shenanigans around these parts. But there are plenty of ways a malicious genie like an Incubator could twist this wish. What if, in true Dimir fashion, she became imperceptible to any nonmagical entities?
- 2d, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- Well, it's claimed that the Incubators don't actively twist the wish itself, but that the wish is twisted because the girls themselves don't stop and think about the repercussions. That and they're almost never honest about what they truly want. These two combine to make unfortunate circumstances while the Incubators stand back and smile that creepy-as-ffffff! smile of theirs. Still, if she doesn't specify the HOW (like Beth), then Kyubey has the leeway to go to town with the most logical solution.
- Cuz if it's one thing the furball stands for, it's logic.
- ...Wow, I sound like a lecturer
- 2d, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- "You wished for time alone. You did not specify a specific interval. To end your time alone, simply put down your Soul Gem and walk away from it. Once your body moves far enough away, it will collapse and become visible to the general public."

- Oh God, that's brilliant.
- This means that only Incubators, Witches, and other Puella Magi can see her. Wonder if she'd eventually want the third's company? Do you think those with Potential could see her? And that explanation means that she'll likely learn Horrible Truth#1 - She's a Lich.
- But then again, aren't some undead in the Dimir? Or is that Orzhov?
- 2d, 48m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Orzhov has the lion's share of guilded ghosts, but Dimir has some as well. (Of course, the biggest user of corporeal undead is the Golgari.)
- Humans are social animals. Eventually, Dimir-chan is going to seek out someone, anyone she can interact with and relate to. (Bunnycat aliens barely count, what with the emotionless, inhuman perspective.) She may or may not go crazy before finding someone. Or she may ended up talking to witches. Dimir is the mill guild, after all, and the flavor there is of eroding sanity. It's also the information guild, and if anyone's going to be learning Horrible Truths, it'll be her.
- I must admit, I'm unfamiliar with capital-P Potential. Unless you're referring to phenomenal karmic burdens like Madoka's.
- 2d, 40m ago
- Speckle said:
- That'd be a scary cool storyline for Dimir-chan and I think I might know what her special brand of magic will be: alone means isolation and isolation is like a cage. She could have Binding Magic. Not like Mami's ribbons, but more like a form of 'zone of trapping', a patch of space that inhibits movement.
- On a side-note, why does everyone in the Magica franchise think that they're now zombies? I mean, they can still do human things, so it's not really like they're the undead-undead....right??
- Well, at the beginning of the anime, both Sayaka and Madoka could see Witches and Kyubey, because they had the potential to be Magical Girls. They could even use Kyubey's telepathy. And that makes me realize that Dimir-chan now has the same ability to evade attention by humanity as Kyubey. Wonder what it'll think of THAT? :3

- "Maintain observation on designated Client. Intervene only in the event of Experiment-imperiling actions. Soul-based discouragement is authorized, up to and including termination of Contract."
- (And, by extension, of Client. At least, that's my read on the situation.)
- Binding magic could work. Alternately, she could cause sensory deprivation: blinding, deafening, and so forth. Can't see me, can't see anyone.
- As for the zombie thing, well, no one said teens were perfectly rational creatures. Especially not Sayaka. She's about as irrational as it gets. Also, it's probably kind of world-shaking to learn that the bunnycat tore out your soul, and your meat body is now a puppet of your actual self, which is in turn a piece of jewelry. Most people, after learning that, aren't going to be able to look at it calmly.
- Of course, the Incubators probably avoid anyone familiar with Dungeons & Dragons. "I'm a lich? Sweet! When do I get the paralyzing touch?"
- Also, I'm not sure where Dimir-chan's Soul Gem should be when transformed, but I definitely know the shape: An eye. Circle in an oval.
- 2d, 15m ago
- Speckle said:
- That's...chilling o.o
- Do Witches have senses besides Sight? Then again, some of them don't seem to have any eyes and yet see perfectly fine (I'm looking at you, Gertrude).
- That's true. I always found Sayaka's spiral into despair as hard to swallow; it just felt like it didn't need to happen, that something could have saved her, but didn't. That she had a chance to turn things around for herself, that she ignored every shred of help thrown her way and seemed content to die/Witch-out and leave her loved ones behind. It just felt so...so selfish
- How about on her forehead? Cliché, maybe, but also just a touch poetic, don'tcha think?
- 2d, 6m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Everything Sayaka hoped for, everything she wanted to come from being a magical girl, either didn't happen or was a lie. She wanted to be more. She became less. At least, until Madoka paradoxed her into magical girl heaven.
- A third eye will certainly work for Dimir-chan. As I said earlier, knives seem perfect for her. Sneaky stabby ninja girls send shivers down your spine...
- (Also, dark outfit and blue Soul Gem seem optimal. Not necessarily black, but dark. We may end having multiple brunettes in an anime-derived thing. What is this madness? )
- 2d, 0s ago
- Speckle said:
- It all seemed so tragic.... Madoka's wish really did save a lot of girls.
- Kunai are the Ninja Knives for sure. Makes me wonder if we should turn her into a ninja, a navy blue ninja with a lighter blue Soul Gem to match her eyes Perhaps we could give her one of those signature long ninja scarves? Or a faceplate?
- 1d, 23h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Definitely a faceplate. And the dark, midnight blue is perfect; even harder to see than actual black.
- Now, we need a name. And while it may be a bit on the nose, this girl feels like a Stella to me.
- 1d, 9h ago
- Speckle said:
- Stella sounds great, like Winx Club....but much deadlier And her last name could be Adalyn, which means 'noble' (it's a first name and one of the Top Trending Names at the site where I'm looking).
- Did we ever decide which magic to give her? Binding or Depravity? Heck, maybe we could combine them somehow, give her the ability to manipulate shadow.
- 1d, 8h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Stella Adalyn? Sounds good to me.
- Binding shadows could definitely work. (Also, you mean "deprivation." Depravity is something very different... though certainly available to Stella, given how almost no one can notice her. Still, I think that's getting above the planned rating.)
- So, imperceptible ninja umbramancer? Yeah, it doesn't get much more Dimir than that.
- 1d, 6h ago
- Speckle said:
- Gyargh, my perfect grammar record is ruined
- SQUEE! This is so cool :) We now have Izzet (Marie), Gruul (Beth), Simic (Sylvia), and Dimir (Stella). Want to do Selesnya? That way we can see who wins the Gown Wars :D
- 1d, 6h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Hmm... Well, her wish is almost certainly for peace, but that requires conflict beforehand. So, what was it? Who's fighting, what side is she on, how personally does she know the combatants?
- 1d, 6h ago
- Speckle said:
- An interesting conundrum, but I think I may have a solution that won't require a global brainwashing (unless you think that'd work), but still involve fighting.
- Selesnya is the only child of a family that is on the brink of falling apart; the father and mother fight every day, sometimes over the simplest things, and nothing she does seems to make it better. She doesn't want to choose sides, they're her parents and she loves them both very much. But now they're starting to show signs of stepping up the fighting, maybe even drag her into it. All she knows is that she wants the fighting to stop....
- "Hello. My name is Kyubey. I would like to make a Contract with you."
- 1d, 4h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Perfect. Only after she's made the wish does she realize how unnaturally docile her parents have become. And now she has other things to worry about, like keeping her soul clean.
- (Not going to be able to respond much today. Just a heads up.)
- 1d, 3h ago
- Speckle said:
- "nods" I understand.
- "Oh.....my."
- Her parents have become like the Equal Ponies, haven't they? Complete with those dang grins too! Wonder if Selesnya will some to regret her wish? Having her compare how harsh things were before with how monotonous things are now, deciding if it was worth it or not, would be an interesting arc for her.
- 1d, 3h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- It's an interesting choice. Does she regret her rash action... or does she genuinely prefer her parents this way? The Conclave has always had a hint of dissonant serenity. The guild's philosophy vilifies individuality and champions the greater good above all else. Selesnya-chan may end up similar to Starlight Glimmer, sincerely believing that it's best that people end up like her parents.
- Would this be a good time to mention that I think a staff would be a good weapon for her?
- 1d, 3h ago
- Speckle said:
- Yes, it would "evil grin" It actually suits her current situation quite well.
- Wishing for peace between two parties sounds like it'd produce a magic similar to a spell I once saw Musa use in Winx Club: Power of Harmony, which releases a soothing melody that calms everyone involved in combat and effectively stops the fight. But with Witches, I don't think that's an option.
- 1d, 3h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Witches? No. Familiars? Maybe. And if speaking softly doesn't work, she still has that big stick.
- And then there's the potential power abuse with people. Close to what the Witches do? Nonsense. Witches spread misery. Selesnya-chan is making people happy. How could you possibly think the two were at all similar?
- 1d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- How do you do it? The metaphors: how do you blend them in so well with the dialogue available?
- Dun-dun-DUN.
- So, an Emotion-Manipulator with a Staff who is a blossoming Starlight Glimmer, possibly even the next Oriko. I think she's even going to be blond like her too.
- 1d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I read a lot and I have an incredible capacity for retaining trivia. Between the two, I have a quip for just about every occasion. I recommend Terry Pratchett's work for excellent examples of how it's done.
- Blonde definitely works. It would logically mean green eyes. Something more on the yellow end of it, I think, like grass that's beginning to feel a drought. I think her Soul Gem should go right over her heart when transformed (and she definitely gets the full gown. We are going full evil Disney princess for this one.) As for shape, it should definitely be something arboreal. Maybe a daisy or similar, more abstract floral shape.
- 1d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- "nodnodnod" So much I can learn
- Like a clover-shape? But instead of the four-leaf, which stands for good luck, how about a three-leafed, standard clover? Flower shapes, seen in Mami and Saki, often go to those who have had their perfect family life painfully uprooted. Of course, in this case, it's a chilling inversion.
- Blondes are apparently prone to getting a bad rap: if they're not ditzy, they're crazy or evil. I wonder where that stereotype even came from?
- So Selesnya wins the gown wars. What does that mean for Sylvia's costume then? ....Oh! Since Simic is a guild that deals with (re)shaping the body and she already has a scalpel, why not have Sylvia's costume be that of a nurse? Yuuri had a nurse-like costume as well, but it was more like a dress, very matronly. Sylvia's can be slightly revealing and youthful, turquoise with green trim. How's that?
- 10h, 13m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I love the clover shape. Clover is ground cover; it spreads quickly and over a wide area. Terrifying bit of symbolism there.
- Hmm. Would it be tacky if Clover were her name, first or last?
- Not sure where the dumb blonde thing originated. Maybe the shallow vanity of those who bleach their hair?
- A nurse outfit would certainly be on theme for Sylvia. The color suggests surgical scrubs, which is perfect.
- 8h, 51m ago
- Speckle said:
- I was actually gonna suggest that her name be Chloe, which sounds a lot like clover I just realized
- "shrugs" People give redheads a hard time too, if I recall correctly, though I can't see why.
- OoOoOo, I never thought of that I love how we're going with this! Turquoise is one of my favorite colors: it just seems so...ethereal.
- 8h, 35m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- The nice thing about Clover is that it also works as a last name, but if you can think of something else that fits that bill, then Chloe works quite well.
- 8h, 25m ago
- Speckle said:
- What do you think? Chloe Clover for the win? :D
- 8h, 14m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- It's a bit twee... and thus perfect for her. Go for it.
- Five down, five to go. Have we done your favorite guild yet?
- 8h, 6m ago
- Speckle said:
- Twee?
- Hmmmm, well, I like the concepts behind the Izzet, the Selesnya are supposedly my Color alignment, and I like Simic for the pure color blend alone. Gruul's story came to me easy and Dimir was a guild that always made me nervous. I'm curious to see how the other five turn out, but I have an uncanny urge to do Orzhov, the Church of Deals (also known as The Mafia with Ghosts) next. Dunno why, maybe it's cuz I wanna see what the Black Mana guilds turn up: we got a spooky concept with Stella, after all
- What about you? Have we done your favorite guild yet?
- 7h, 57m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I'm all about the science guilds. We've covered my favorites quite extensively.
- Orzhov-chan was almost certainly below the poverty line before her wish. Not sure if she was homeless or not, but she definitely wished for cash. Of course, the situation quickly soured. Money appearing out of nowhere is known as counterfeiting, and money transferred without its previous owner's permission is known as theft. Thus, we either have a fugitive or someone rich enough to pay people not to ask inconvenient questions.
- 7h, 40m ago
- Speckle said:
- Hmmmmmm....
- OR....a winning lottery ticket for one of THE biggest giveaways to date, one that seemed to literally come out of nowhere "waggles eyebrows" Enter the same situation that Ryuko, Mako and her family came across around episode 7. The question is the same as with Chloe: does Orzhov-chan like this new arrangement or has the money soured her and her family's identity?
- 7h, 35m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- That probably works better. Especially if her family were already playing the lottery on a frequent basis.
- As for the question of wealth-borne arrogance, I think the Witch hunting would keep Orzhov-chan grounded. It's hard to feel above the hoi polloi when you're constantly risking your life. Unless, of course, she feels she's above such crass things as mortal combat. Though her tune would probably change as her Soul Gem dimmed.
- Ooh! The thing about lottery payouts is that few winners invest the cash at all wisely. They often end up in even deeper debt than beforehand. That could be a fantastic reversal of fortune.
- 7h, 18m ago
- Speckle said:
- Something unforeseeable from a young girl's perspective "evil grin"
- I don't see Orzhov herself turning nasty, no, not after the first Witch hunt, but what about her parents? If watching Westerns and murder mysteries have taught me one thing, it's that money - like fear - can bring out the worst in people.
- 6h, 54m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Entirely possible. And imagine what will happen when they're in debt up to their eyebrows, after alienating all of their old friends and all of their new friends abandoned them once their money was gone. Oh, that won't end well at all...
- 6h, 41m ago
- Speckle said:
- Oh deary me ._.
- Where does that leave lil' Orzhov-chan? Could this be a situation similar to what happened with Kyouko's family? "shivers"
- "All fortune has its limits and humans are selfish by nature. You merely asked for a large sum of money in that moment, you said nothing about the future. Perhaps if you chose to invest wisely, you would have had better luck in stretching out your family's capital. But like I said, humans are selfish by nature. And so are wishes." - A Certain Evil Furball
- 6h, 35m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Not evil. At least, not intentionally. Not as we understand the term. Blue and Orange Morality in action.
- It's entirely possible that we could be looking at another Kyoko here, a living ghost drifting through society, her sorry state a product of debt. I can think of nothing more appropriately Orzhov. And given the nature of her wish, her costume is likely heavy on gold brocade and other ostentatious displays. How she must hate it...
- 6h, 23m ago
- Speckle said:
- Yeah, I know. Kazumi's sub-title was named after its frame of mind: the innocent malice.
- OoOoOo, decked out in gold attire like the pharaohs of Egypt, who were all for treasures and gold adornments. An Egyptian-themed costume, maybe? Or how about something like what the Orzhov Enthusiast wears? As for a weapon, scepters and whips seem to be a common theme for this guild.
- 3h, 10m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I was thinking a morningstar. Gilded, obviously, but basically just a heavy, spiked ball on a stick. An inelegant weapon for an inelegant wish.
- I was thinking an Orzhov aesthetic for her costume, but the Egyptian angle is interesting. All bangles and bracelets and white linen. Maybe a pharaonic headdress. Yes, that could work quite well.
- 2h, 45m ago
- Speckle said:
- If you want to put in an Orzhov aesthetic, that's cool, you know them more than I do. I saw the guys and those thrulls seemed big on robes, but the women wore more close-fitting, dress-like stuff and I thought it was close enough to what ancient Egyptians wore.
- Orzhov is a White/Black guild, so how about we give our girl white hair and stormy gray eyes (Airi and Saki had white hair), giving her a silvery Soul Gem?
- 2h, 35m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Orzhov style it is. Elegance, poise, and a big, jagged hunk of gold to swing around. Poor little rich girl.
- White and silver sound like a winning combination. Now, what to do for a name...
- 2h, 19m ago
- Speckle said:
- And a magical power, don't forget. Though I'm not too sure what a money-related wish would generate...
- Well, there's Gilda, which means 'golden' (was so sure it meant griffin ), Odette means 'wealth', Sika is an African name for 'money', and Kendra means 'magical', just because I wanted to see if there were any names that meant 'magic' :D
- 2h, 13m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ah, but it wasn't just money out of nowhere. It was through a game of chance. That implies luck magic to me. The odds turn out in her favor... at least, when fighting Witches.
- It may be a bit too spot-on, but how do you feel about Gilda Maynard?
- 2h, 10m ago
- Speckle said:
- OoOoOo, I like the sound of that :3 "resists the urge to make a Hunger Games joke"
- Best shorten it to Gilda May and I say we have a winner
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Fantastic! So, that leaves Azorius, Rakdos, Golgari, and Boros. Preference?
- Also, we seem to be losing old posts, so I recommend saving everything to another source if you aren't already.
- 2d, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- I have now, thanks for that :)
- I say we do Golgori. Sure, Rakdos sounds like a super crazy girl to fill out, but...well....zombies
- 2d, 5h ago
- Speckle said:
- Er....unless you WANTED to do Rakdos next?
- 2d, 5h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ack. Sorry for the delay. Seems my response didn't take the first time around.
- Now then, if I recall correctly, in the first timeline, Madoka wished a cat back to life, so that's clearly within the realm of possibility. For animals. And fresh corpses. Suppose Golgari-chan wished her loved ones back after they'd started getting ripe...
- 2d, 5h ago
- Speckle said:
- Yes, Madoka also wished for Sayaka to return to life after Witching out in a previous timeline, thus causing Homura to reset it again (I think that was in Another Story).
- And......Y'know what I always wanted? To see what would happen if the parents from The Monkey's Paw got a chance to take a look at their son after he 'came back'. This could be that moment!
- 2d, 4h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Before we proceed, I just realized that we never picked a shape and location for Gilda's Soul Gem when she's transformed. I'm thinking rectangular and set into a gold necklace. Something chunky, similar to an Element of Harmony.
- And yeah, Golgari-chan seeing her zombie parents in all their decaying glory definitely needs to happen.
- 2d, 4h ago
- Speckle said:
- I say sure; a Circle, Oval, and Diamond are the simplest shapes in the Madoka-verse. We need more basic shapes!
- Can't wait to see how Kyubey explains away this one :P
- Golgori the Guild is all for making zombies out of your loved ones. But will Golgori-chan?
- 2d, 4h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- "You wished your parents, and I quote, 'back on their feet.' Functionality was restored to the bodies. I suspect you would not appreciate restoring their souls to the bodies. The decomposition process is well underway; they would be in excruciating pain on a constant basis. I believe you would refer to this as 'mercy'?"
- Golgari-chan's probably going to be scarred for life after this. Possibly driven far enough around the bend to justify necromancy... though the Incubators would probably disapprove of a rabid creature mauling their livestock without even providing a burst of thermodynamics-defying grief first. So inconsiderate. At least, that's my read on the situation.
- 2d, 4h ago
- Speckle said:
- Ooooooooooooooooooooooh boy
- Would that be her magic? Whenever Madoka wished a cat or a friend back to life, according to the video game, her special magic focused on healing and purification. Then again, Madoka IS a special case, so I have no clue if it'd be plausible for another MG.
- And if Golgori-chan were to invent zombies and the Incubators disapprove, what do you think they'll do to her? Surely there'd be something that could be done to handle Puella Magi that interfere with their plan.
- 2d, 4h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I suspect her magic would be animating objects. Organic objects, mostly. Not just dead bodies, but also things like wooden furniture, trophy heads, bearskin rugs, maybe even food. Imagine a rack of ribs scuttling along the ground like a millipede.
- Kyubey's shown the ability to cause excruciating pain just by stepping on a Soul Gem. There may be a clause in the Contract about disciplinary measures done from a distance. And if there isn't, there can be.You know what they say, a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
- 2d, 4h ago
- Speckle said:
- Gah! We need to do an Evil Dead shout-out! Any way we can fit a dear head into this scenario?
- (I don't know why, that one scene just cracked me up: a laughing dear head. And there used to be one at a restaurant near home that my Dad would often take us to for lunch and I kept expecting it to stark talking.)
- Every time she attempts to raise the dead, PAIN. But she can find a loophole or two and Kyubey probably won't mind if all the meets at the local Publix start dancing.
- 2d, 4h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I don't see why not. Especially if we can get someone repeatedly shouting "Swallow your soul!"
- Well, dancing meat may threaten the masquerade. After all, the Incubators have kept mum about both their presence and the existence of magic to most of the populace. Thinking about it, they're probably not going to be too thrilled with Chloe's mind slaves either, but at least those have a mundane explanation. A conga line of rotisserie chickens, not so much.
- Still, the thing about pain is that you do get used to it after a while. And the Incubators may be willing to put up with a little chaos if the cost-benefit analysis pans out. Terminating a Contract is a last-ditch option, since it means there's no return on investment, and thus entropy gets a win. This should be an interesting one.
- (Also, would a scythe be too obvious a weapon for Little Miss Necromancer?)
- 2d, 3h ago
- Speckle said:
- It'd be a great omake, though, dem chickens
- If that's the case, I'm surprised Oriko didn't get some kind of punishment for what she did at the end of Oriko Magica. Then again, she died at the end, so I don't think there was much of a chance. And then there were what the Pleiades Saints were doing which I honestly thought was a bad idea and was proven to be by the end of Kazumi Magica: they ended up kidnapping kids who will likely now never return home, were responsible for half their team's deaths, and caused quite a lot of chaos whilst trying to resurrect Michiru. I know they wanted to reclaim their friend, but....well....you know that they say about a certain road that leads down....
- A scythe seems to be a staple of all things Death-related, so I'd stay away from that weapon. I DO see Golgori-chan as a black-clad Magical Girl, though, so there's still a cliché in there :3
- 2d, 3h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Forest green eyes and Soul Gem, then? And what to do for a weapon...
- Ooh. Oooh. A shovel.
- 2d, 3h ago
- Speckle said:
- Oh my God. I think I'm in love.
- Shovel for the win! And we can also make a shovel-head the Soul Gem Shape. It's either that or a skull and that's another cliché.
- What of her costume? And Gem placement? I almost wanna dress her up as Shovel Knight, but that's getting carried away....or is it?
- 2d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- For the Gem, we can have the tip of the spade pointing up and a little rounded. Have some ambiguity between shovel-head and tombstone.
- I think the key word for the costume is "tattered," or possibly "mouldering." I'm imagining a standard magical girl ensemble that was buried in the ground for a few months. Or years. Girl isn't going to look much better than the zombies she's totally not making, honest.
- As for where to put the Soul Gem, I'm thinking a belt that looks like it's hanging by a thread. You know, like her sanity. Obviously, it's as tough as any magically synthesized battle armor, but it looks half-rotted.
- 1d, 23h ago
- Speckle said:
- Sorry I'm so late in response; stormed over here and knocked out the power for a while.
- OoOoOo, taking the zombie motif and running with it, eh? :D I was gonna suggest a scarecrow-esque look, but that's mostly cuz I'm a shameless fangirl of Dr. Jonathan Crane
- 1d, 23h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ah. That's never fun. I'm glad it was only a few hours for you.
- Sadly, Scarecrow-chic doesn't really fit the theme. She's about undeath, not fear. But we can certainly name her Joanna if you want. (Maybe even Joanna Todd, as an homage to the Demon Barber of Fleet Street and the worst pies in London.)
- 1d, 22h ago
- Speckle said:
- I love the first name, Joanna :)
- How's about...Joanna...Morgan? Joanna Morgan.
- 1d, 22h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Joanna Morgan it is. That just leaves Azorius, Rakdos, Boros. So, lawyer, policeman, or demon cultist?
- 1d, 22h ago
- Speckle said:
- Oh, decisions, decisions.
- Let's do this alphabetically, thus we start with Azorius :) I take it this girl will be, how do I put this tactfully, a very stuffy person?
- 1d, 22h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Very prim, very proper, very fed up with her alleged peers. Or possibly her younger siblings. I'm seeing possibilities with the "beleaguered babysitter" concept, but this is definitely a girl who's trying to grow up far too quickly.
- 1d, 22h ago
- Speckle said:
- I just wanna say right now, I can see her with pretty blue hair, nice and long like Homura's, though not split near the end the way she has it.
- I can get behind the 'I'm not a baby!' mindset, I think it sounds pretty sound. From what I remember reading about Azorius, they insist on doing everything by the book, which causes most of their court cases to go insanely slow and methodical. They have laws for making laws. So, perhaps as a bit of personality trait, Azorius-chan could be a bit OCD?
- 1d, 22h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- That could certainly work. A place for everything and everything for a place. God have mercy if you move her pencil case. She'd probably kill Witches just because she can't tolerate the art style shifts reality distortions in their territory.
- So, do we go for her wishing the rest of her class could be better behaved? (Or, in her arrogance, "more like me"?)
- 1d, 22h ago
- Speckle said:
- I'll tell you, the first time I saw Gertrud's barrier, I asked, "Who was on what when they designed that?"
- I can see it now: a classroom full of loud, rowdy, borderline icky classmates who are millimeters away from driving A-chan mad. Everything else she can tolerate - her peers, her siblings, that one annoying neighbor - because she can always escape them. But to be stuck with a bunch of obnoxious individuals for, what, six-seven hours a day? How does she stay sane?
- 1d, 21h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Yelling, berating, bargaining, and otherwise trying to get them to behave. If you asked her, shed say she's trying harder than the teacher. Really, the only options she hadn't tried were wishing on a telepathic bunnycat and firing a gun into the ceiling. She went with the option that wouldn't get her arrested.
- Of course, there are so many ways "I wish my classmates would behave themselves" can be twisted. Emotionless automatons? Subconscious compulsions to obey any order they're given? Play the wish straight, but have parents freak over the sudden pleasant, yet horrifying change in their children?
- 1d, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- It'd be even wilder if she was Class President or part of the Student Council. Judge from on high indeed.
- Behavior is all about manners and how well they're upheld. Does she mention 'behave themselves in class'? If so, then she could actually get a decent deal out of her wish. Just a suggestion, since the Pleiades managed to get decent wishes....which was counterbalanced by the REALLY bad plan they had for the rest of their series. Azorius-chan is so OCD, she'd likely be very clear on what she wants.
- 1d, 21h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Very true. I'd be surprised if her wish was a single paragraph in all its stipulations and clarifications. Heck, Kyuubey would probably be impressed if he were capable of such a reaction. And we should definitely make her part of the student government, where she is horribly frustrated by the complete lack of power or purpose.
- 1d, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- One impressed Incubator coming up! Well, as impressed as that furball can get anyway. It's hard gauging Kyubey's reaction to things when it/he claims to have no emotions, but there's obviously a response of some sort.
- And now A-chan has all the power she could ever want, likely being one of the more satisfied MGs. Of course, her stress will likely come from the Witch hunts and how they interfere with her schedule.

- FanOfMostEverything said:
- "I have a STAFF MEETING in an HOUR to discuss the THEME of the upcoming DANCe, so would you kindly DIE ALREADY!?"
- Imagine every bit of caps-lock being punctuated by a very peeved young lady stabbing an eldritch horror with a very sharp spear.
- 1d, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- Will it be a spear? I would figure a large hammer, like a gavel. But I see the point :3
- I can see her talking to Witches in that manner, quite often actually.
- You mentioned in a previous message that you aimed to give A-chan robes.
- 1d, 21h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Hmm. Judicial connection or something sharp and to the point... We could split the difference and go with a Lucerne hammer. That way, she doesn't have to get too close to the things.
- And yeah, I definitely want A-chan in robes. The stuffier and more officious looking, the better. I want hypothetical cosplayers sweating sweating like hogs in July.
- 1d, 20h ago
- Speckle said:
- OoOoOo, that's a pretty-looking weapon. I like it
- My goodness O.O She'll have a more robe-y look than Oriko at that rate. Heehee.
- We've also got a pretty blue Soul Gem to go with those pretty blue robes. Think it should be on her hand, or arm? Maybe at the base of her neck?
- 1d, 20h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Back of the hand, I think. Long arm of the law and all that. A nice, stable triangle seems appropriate, even without considering the guild signet.
- As for names... Judith is far, far too obvious. How do you feel about Susan?
- 1d, 20h ago
- Speckle said:
- Mmmmmmm, yeah, I can see that as a good name. Very straight-forward and practical, just like her. How about Quinn as a last name?
- And what's our young judge's magical power? A wish - a very thorough wish - to bring about good behavior sounds like something very order-related. But how does that translate? Mind-control? That sounds like Chloe's ability.
- 1d, 19h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I was thinking straight-up binding magic. Maybe even with the Azorius "magic script" aesthetic. Restrictive control seems right up her alley. Plus, it keeps the Witches from getting too close for her hammer.
- 1d, 10h ago
- Speckle said:
- That sounds so cool! We'd have to make sure that it doesn't bleed into Stella's Shadow Magic, though.
- 1d, 8h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Well, we could drop the binding aspect of that. Make them blind, deaf, and otherwise insensate but still able to stagger around.
- We have a full name for Susan Quinn, so that just leaves Boros and Rakdos. Which -os would you like to tackle first?
- 1d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- Sorry this took so long; I was with my Mom and sis for half the day.
- Are you talking about Stella's Shadows or Susan's Binding?
- And I say we finally walk on the wild - or crazy - side. Let's do Rakdos. Though, I should ask, does this mean our next PM is gonna be....nuts? Cuz I DO have an idea for that (what that says about me, I shudder to think ).
- 1d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Stella's Shadows. Have them obscure without binding to keep them distinct from Susan's personal ability.
- The thing about Rakdos is that it isn't just a bunch of bloodthirsty psychopaths. It's also the entertainment guild. I'm seeing Rakdos-chan as Susan's opposite, forced into a horribly restrictive life , her parents having scheduled every minute of every day up through college. She just wants freedom to do what she wants. She wants a chance to have fun.
- 1d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- Change in data has been made.
- I think almost every-other kid has that dream, to be able to do whatever they want....and how much you wanna bet that that's how Rakdos-chan is going to word her wish?
- 1d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Probably. As I said, Susan's opposite. She's not going to think about this too carefully. So, the question becomes how that opportunity is presented. Change the parents' minds, or remove them entirely?
- 1d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- "I want to be able to do whatever I want, whenever I want, and I don't want my parents to stop me!"
- "Is this the wish you want to make?"
- "Well duh! Why else would I say it?"
- "Very well. Hold still."
- .....How's that? Gosh, that was unusually fun :3
- 1d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Did... did you just make Puella Magi Haruhi Suzumiya? I don't think Rakdos-chan has the karmic burden necessary to pull of that kind of thing.
- 1d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- ......what O.O
- Haruhi? She never entered my mind when I wrote that. I just thought of the most careless wording for that sort of wish concept I could and wrote it out.
- 1d, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Here's the thing: being able to do whatever you want whenever you want is also known as omnipotence.
- 1d, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- .......I did not know that o.O
- 1d, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- I thought that was KNOWING everything.
- 1d, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- No, that's omniscience. The point is, Rakdos-chan is basically wishing to become a god (or, at the very least, a Q.) Granted, I can see her trying that wish, but I think Kyubey's going to have to ask her to tone it down a touch. Maybe focus on the "unstoppable freedom" part of the wish.
- 1d, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- Ah....
- I think I better let you take the lead on this one's wish
- 1d, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- No, no, I think we can work with this. Give her the capability, but not the control. Have her magic be horribly chaotic. Have her point at a Witch, try to cast a spell, and cross her fingers, not knowing if she'll get a soap bubble or a ten-megaton explosion.
- 1d, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- Wait. You mean, we're giving a pre-teen CHAOS MAGIC???
- As in, the stuff that DISCORD uses????
- Oh God, let's do it
- 1d, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Yes, but not the control. Every time she uses her magic is a roll of the dice. The only things she can be sure of are the appearance of her costume and the shape of her weapon. I'm thinking a harlequin design for the former, with black-and-red checkered patterns. For the latter? Big honking axe.
- 22h, 47m ago
- Speckle said:
- Sorry, dinner and dessert.
- So, we have a Harley Quinn that's learned Metronome She could summon a flock of pelicans! Or pancakes! Or both! Why not give her a cannon for a weapon that she can spam? Or maybe she can use juggling pins that can act as clubs and explosives when thrown? The idea of a carnival-themed Magical Girl sounds like tons of fun in terms of design.
- 22h, 44m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ooh, I really like the exploding juggling pins. Especially if the nature of the explosion is just as random as the rest of her magic. Gouts of acid? Bursts of electricity? Reams of confetti? Who knows?
- For Soul Gem shape, I'm thinking a four-pointed star. Maybe we can give her a jester hat and have it dangle in place of one of the bells.
- 22h, 28m ago
- Speckle said:
- Thumbs up to both! Though, we haven't really decided if her parents stay or go....
- 22h, 21m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ooh, that's a good point. Moreover, what does she once this horribly, wonderfully unpredictable magic crashes into her parents' strictly regimented timetable? It's possible that something unfortunate happened to them after the wish. For some reason, I'm picturing her with a two-headed lizard for pet. One she dearly loves and fiercely protects...
- Or, if you want to go for the non-horrible route, this girl actually seems like good protagonist material, if we want the story to have a single primary focus character.
- 22h, 15s ago
- Speckle said:
- Two-headed lizard??
- I like the idea of her being the Main-Main Character of the whole group. But every main needs a name and I feel that Agatha needs to be one of them. I dunno why, it just popped into my head. Other names include Alice, Jael, and---wait. What does she look like? With the others, at least we have a general idea. Red eyes and dark hair? Really unkempt dark hair?
- 21h, 54m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Yes, a two-headed lizard. She just wanted them to relax a little, but it came out as a transformation...
- But we're probably not going with that. Probably.
- She'd probably be fairly well kempt at home, as long as we're keeping her parents alive and human. I imagine that the usual clean-up part of the magical girl transformation runs in reverse for her, as befits a chaos mage, resulting in a much more disheveled appearance when suited up. Also, for some reason, I want to make her short for her age. I'm not sure why, but it amuses me.
- Agatha certainly works. If she's the main main, we can always call her Aggie. How do you feel about Blair as the last name?
- 21h, 46m ago
- Speckle said:
- Oooooooooooh, now I understand and it's tempting, but.......I dunno.
- Short Aggie Blair, I love her already. She's Rakdos-oriented, and yet she's the Main Protagonist. Wonderful ;)
- 21h, 34m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- That just leaves us with Boros-chan, the justice seeker. Or perhaps just vengeance. The line between the two can be blurry at times. What and why are the key questions. I'm tempted to go full Batman and give her dead parents, but that seems too obvious. Thoughts?
- 21h, 21m ago
- Speckle said:
- Well, seeking justice/vengeance implies that the regular Law/Justice System let someone guilty walk, someone that Boros-chan knew should be punished but lack of evidence caused them to get off scott-free. It's a common backstory and murder is often the crime committed. So how about something different? How about we go - not that I ever actually SAW the anime - the Hell Girl route?
- Just hear me out: I looked up the first few episodes on Wikipedia and the crimes committed by the 'guilty' weren't murder, but bullying, theft, lies, and general fraud. Crimes that couldn't be stopped or proven because no one but those involved knew what was going on. So, I give you two scenarios:
- 1) a friend of Boros-chan or Boros-chan herself was a victim of severe bullying and couldn't make it stop because the bullies were either rich kids or known to the public as top notch kids who 'couldn't possibly do anything bad'.
- or
- 2) a friend of Boros-chan, Boros-chan's family, or Boros-chan herself trusted the wrong person with something important and ended up getting the short end of the stick. And to protest against the culprit would make that party look like the villain.
- Not the average wish for justice/vengeance, eh? Or are they too over-the-top?
- 21h, 14m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- They both sound better than my idea. I especially like number 1. That seems like exactly the sort of situation that would lead to a Contract. Heck, the wish might even work out fairly well. Evidence suddenly presents itself, possibly by a teacher happening by at just the right time, when there was no way for the bullies to smarm their way out of punishment.
- Of course, Boros-chan might then feel more empowered than she necessarily should. Like she was the only true arbiter of right and wrong. Like she wasn't just a champion of justice, but the champion of justice. Sayaka's folly multiplied severalfold.
- 21h, 6m ago
- Speckle said:
- Number 1 it is :)
- Sounds like a good plan and the idea of Boros-chan's ego inflating might be interesting, especially if she becomes an MG Superman/Batman type that tries to thwart criminals while also Witch-hunting. How will her ego fair against the realities of life?
- Also, was believing you can be a champion of justice really folly? I mean, a lot of people believe that they can do good for the sake of others; at what point does it go South? How did it go South for Sayaka?
- 20h, 38m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Sorry. Dinner on my end.
- The key problem was Sayaka blinding herself to the reality of her situation. Whether she believed she was a standard-model magical girl or an inhuman, unloveable zombie, she put more stock in what she thought was true than the actual truth. That willing blindness, that refusal to accept what is, led to her downfall. The two jerks on the train killing chivalry before her very eyes didn't help either.
- Remember her final words. "I've been such a fool." Far too late, she realized her mistake.
- But enough about the little mermaid. We have an angel to create. And she may even be able to pull off the crimefighter gig... for a time. That's a lot of magic expended with no return, and a lot of late nights. The books have to balance somehow. Unless she can find a balance, she'll suffer greatly. (Or she could exploit the whole "your body doesn't matter anymore" aspect and just be a juggernaut of justice, not caring about getting stabbed or shot so long as no one hurts that nice ring she's wearing. There are several ways to take this one.
- 20h, 12m ago
- Speckle said:
- Yeah, those jerks need to be roasted alive.
- "deeeeeeeeeeeep breath"
- We could always make it a learning experience for her, try out each scenario and see what happens. Though I've always wanted to apply the 'fight no matter what happens to your body' to an MG OC ever since Kyubey uttered that explanation (this was, of course, WAY after my find finished reeling in shock).
- Angel, huh? Makes me want to call her Lucy. But then again, I've wanted to call Boros-chan Lucy since we started talking about her. And NO, it's not meant to be symbolic.
- 19h, 59m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Lucy, eh? I'd have gone with Gabrielle, but the proudest and brightest does seem more appropriate. Though that does leave the question of a last name, and frankly, you're a lot better at those than I am.
- I'm thinking "valkyrie" for her outfit design, something that says "woman warrior." Skirt over armor, maybe a winged helmet. And a longsword. Definitely a longsword. As for her personal magic, I'm thinking some kind of tracking spell. Once she's marked a quarry, she always knows where it is. She will hunt you. She will find you. She will visit justice upon you. And she will never, ever stop.
- At least Kyubey isn't quite as bad as Skynet.
- 19h, 36m ago
- Speckle said:
- I SAID IT'S NOT SYMBOLIC! >____< "flails pitifully"
- Aw, I'm not, you had some great ones. "blush" And you're super good at costumes, a lot better than me. Having a 'bully radar' sounds awesome and the angelic soldier is yet another super good costume. Boros is White/Red, which could be seen as pink or orange as a theme color for her costume and Gem, which could be emblazoned on her helmet, whatever shape it may be.
- And how about Wren, as in the bird, for a last name? Would match the 'winged' theme with the helmet, maybe add some feathery/wing accents to the rest of her outfit.
- 19h, 26m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ah, the wren, the folkloric king of birds. You're just full of unintentional symbolism.
- Pink tempts me, but I think orange would be more appropriate. As for shape, I'm thinking a double-chevron, like spread wings.
- That's all of them! Now we can worry about friends, family, and interpersonal relationships between the various magical girls.
- 19h, 13m ago
- Speckle said:
- King of birds? I SWEAR I had no idea
- Pink is apparently forever symbolized with Madoka, thus we get orange, another under-appreciated color that we shall make famous!
- How DOES one make good background/supporting characters? I mean, they're obviously there to help with foundation and backstory, but they're also important in their own right.....right?
- 18h, 48m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Well, they certainly think so. Still, in the end, they're ultimately secondary to their associated protagonist. We need to decide what each girl needs in the way of family, friends, and other associates, then create them appropriately.
- Hoo boy. Where do we begin?
- 18h, 25m ago
- Speckle said:
- With the parents, the family, the origin of our ten girls.
- .....Good Lord. "deeeeeep breath" Okay, let's go backwards and start with Lucy Wren of the Boros League.
- For the girl who wants justice, how about we give her a single mother? Amelia Wren, single Mom and local news reporter, works all day and comes home the same time as her daughter. I think it'd be interesting that Lucy's Mom will likely be printing her daughter's nightly exploits in the paper without realizing, which is no doubt where the idea came from.
- How's that?
- 18h, 22m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ooh, I quite like the potential tension with Lucy's secret identity. Any siblings, or should Lucy focus all of her protective heroics on her friends?
- 3h, 15m ago
- Speckle said:
- I have no excuses for my lateness; it's just me being lazy and my dog being cute.
- And I think being an only child will give Lucy a lot more freedom in terms of stretching her magical wings. So yeah, I see her with two or three friends in her class, probably all girls. Don't know why, but she seems the type to not like men.
- 2h, 56m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- So... justice lesbian? Well, this is Madoka-based.
- Okay, so a few friends. Lucy is herself probably on the fringes of society in her school. That certainly works. Is it just her friends getting bullied, or is she getting harassed as well?
- 2h, 29m ago
- Speckle said:
- Not intended, but sure. It could work. Sailor Moon may have started the stereotype, but PMMM made it popular
- I get the vibe of Lucy being the one who tries to protect her friends from the worst of it, but otherwise it was her friends getting bullied since Lucy is able to fend for herself.
- 2h, 8m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- True, true. Bullies are predators; they target the weak and sickly. So, quick character sketches for the friends: names and distinguishing characteristics, both physical and behavioral. I admit, this is a bit outside of my experience.
- 1h, 38m ago
- Speckle said:
- It's cool, I myself often glaze over the backgrounds until it's actually time to write them. But if it's one thing I'm good at, it's spamming OCs.
- Anna Louise sounds like a good name for a friend who's being bullied; a bubbly blond who is a bit of a ditz and thus falls easy prey to the bullies of the school because she tends to be on the gullible side. Not because she's dumb, but because she wants to be friends with everyone and thus isn't sure when someone's joking and when someone's being deliberately cruel.
- Penelope 'Penny' Lynn is another friend, one who skirts the line between someone who can stand up to bullies and a victim. How? Well, she's not afraid to speak her mind, but she has no physical prowess and is a willowy thing that looks ready to float away on the wind. This thinness is why she's bullied and she can't stand it, getting upset to the point of tears over her own helplessness.
- 1h, 27m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Fantastic, both of them. Anna Louise sounds like a common interpretation of Derpy Hooves. I already want to hug her.
- Those bullies aren't going to know what hit them. Want to flesh out said bullies, maybe give them some Freudian excuses, or should we just have generic terrible people tormenting these poor girls?
- 1h, 21m ago
- Speckle said:
- Aw, I'm sorry Derpy
- I think their excuse is that they've got such high praise from everyone and have excelled so much that they believe that they can get away with anything. High status seems to do that to people, I think. Saw it firsthand in a couple Westerns; normally good people become easily corrupted when it looks like their lives become bright and shiny.
- 1h, 8m ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- And then Lucy becomes brighter and shinier still... (No symbolism here, that's for sure. )
- So, we've got the core of her character ready to go, aside from whatever criminals she faces down as she becomes the Meat Puppet of Justice. (fanfare) Those should be fairly standard. Anything else with her, or should we move on?
- 50m, 41s ago
- Speckle said:
- Hmmmm....I think we got the basic frame for Lucy, along with an underlying theme of being careful not to become what you're fighting against.
- Next comes Agatha 'Aggie' Blair of the Cult of Rakdos.
- 31m, 54s ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ah, yes. Her parents have very, very high hopes for her. They mean well, they really do. All they want is for their daughter to succeed. Is that so wrong?
- Well, between the music lessons, the dance lessons, the clubs, the plays... she just doesn't have any time for herself prior to her wish.
- So yeah, I'm thinking that the Blairs are definitely at a high income bracket, and that Aggie is an only child. All of that time and attention is being lavished on her, much to her displeasure. If she does have any friends, they're either kids in similar circumstances or ones she only gets to see during lunch.
- 25m, 7s ago
- Speckle said:
- Sounds about right. Super, actually.
- And you say that you're no good at this, you're GREAT
- 13m, 54s ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- It's the details that get me, especially names. Pony names are easy; you just need to think of a clever and/or descriptive noun phrase. Human names are much more complicated. Though, completely undercutting my previous point, I get the feeling that these two are a Charles and a Delia. Those sound suitably pompous. And the kind of people who'd name their daughter Agatha.
- As for friends... Well, if Aggie's going to be our protagonist among protagonists, she's going to need some anchors for her sanity and morality, and her friends will definitely be those. That in mind, I think we should opt for at least one lunch-friend. Maybe someone in an opposite situation, where her parents are kind of indifferent and she just feels kind of directionless. They play off of one another, acknowledging that the grass isn't so green on the other side even as they make up for that green with lingering envy. The magical girl thing will either pry their friendship apart once and for all or finally give the other girl something to care about. Or, depending on Aggie's developing condition, both.
- Okay, I guess I'm pretty good at this.
- 6m, 57s ago
- Speckle said:
- Yes, yes indeed
- I think these two are going to be best friends forever, thus we'll take the best of both scenarios and make it work in their favor. As for a name, I can't help but think of Peggy (dunno what that'd be short for) Lain. Tomboyish but bright and desperately searching for a purpose in life. How's that?
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Peggy Lain is in my ears and in my eyes...
- Sounds good to me, as long as she doesn't do any serial experiments with the Internet. Also, it appears that "Peggy" is usually short for Margaret of all things. Who knew?
- So, should we move on to Susan, or is there anything you'd like to add for Aggie?
- Oh, and a reminder to back this up if you haven't been. We're only about a dozen posts away from when I last brought it up getting deleted.
- 1w, 23h ago
- Speckle said:
- In your...wha?
- No, no experiments conducted....unless the Incubators get bored
- I think Aggie's going to be fairly easy to write in terms of those around her, so yes, onto Susan Quinn of the Azorius Senate.
- I say we give her two younger siblings, Jack and Amanda 'Mandy' Quinn. That babysitting 'job' she has could involve them and their friends whenever they go off to play together, which could likely be how Kyubey gets her attention. Both are rowdy, but sweet and Mandy wants to grow up to be like her big sis, so they're not THAT terrible =D
- 1w, 23h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Beatles reference
- As for Susan, I like this idea. Especially if her siblings listen to her when the student body, which is allegedly more mature, doesn't. Not only does it give a chance to humanize the fledgling dictator, it also gives her justification to see the rest of the student body as children who must be disciplined.
- Do you hear strings or is it just me?
- Also, what should we do about Susan's parents? Is her strictness a product of her environment, something done in spite of it, or just an intrinsic part of her personality that would've arisen regardless?
- 1w, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- Had to stop for dinner.
- Oooooooooooooh God. We may just have the next Satsuki Kiriryuin :D
- Well, it's hard to say. I suppose it's a personality thing, but I really am unsure about how to approach her parents without making her situation all cliché.
- 1w, 21h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Well, they could just be disgustingly normal, or never seen. (Goodness knows there aren't many visible parents in Madoka...) But try writing out the approaches you've thought of. You may come up with something you hadn't considered until now.
- 1w, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- We see Madoka's parents and paper cut-outs of Kyouko's family, but no sign of Homura's or Sayaka's. Mami's are....you know.
- Well, both parents could work at fulltime jobs or the father owns a big popular business that inspires Susan to follow in her footsteps. Her father could be a perfectionist and her mother one of those annoyingly clingy types that think cookies make everything better (I swear I read a fic where a mother was portrayed in that fashion).
- 1w, 21h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- You mean cookies don't make everything better? Wow, what a lousy baker...
- I like your second option. Especially if Susan's mother tries to wipe a spot off her cheek as she's trying to deliver a dramatic speech.
- Now, someone like Susan isn't really going to have friends so much as subordinates, primarily the rest of the Student Council. Treasurer, vice president, et al. Though she may have a peer or two somewhere, either in the Council or out of it.
- 1w, 20h ago
- Speckle said:
- I'm not saying they don't, but the mother from the fic was offering them left and right, for when things should've been talked out or hugs offered, the lady just sat there awkwardly. It's like she was hiding behind the cookies rather than let them work their own magic.
- And if she uses her own spit to wet the napkin, please let's have Susan go postal and wash her face while ranting about germs. I dunno why, I just feel like that's a rant that could become a Satsuki-level Speech. Also cuz it's just gross.
- I see her family as more of her rock, her younger siblings even more so. The Council see her as their leader, but would be awkward around her otherwise (though it'd be interesting to see them TRY and start a casual conversation). Having a teacher or two praise her efforts could be her Ray of Sanity in an otherwise dark school day, though I dunno if they should be named.
- 1w, 20h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Not beyond last names. It would be Improper Behavior for a student to even think of a teacher by a first name.
- And the more I hear about Susan's mother, the more I love her. I imagine her daughter inherited her emotional awkwardness.
- And the speech about Hygiene and Boundaries and Good God, Woman, What Were You Thinking? definitely needs to happen at some juncture.
- Susan seems to be well in hand. Now for Joanna Morgan, representative of the Golgari Swarm...
- 1w, 20h ago
- Speckle said:
- That wasn't Susan's mother, it was the mother from the other fic that I was using as an example. We can, however, make them similar....so long as there's no cookie abuse.
- YES!! "coughcough"
- Joanna, I feel, lost a family member of choosing - I honestly don't know who, there's so many options. Now, the grief is tearing her apart since this family member was the world to them, the only one who they felt understood them, and they want them back so badly. Who do you think it should be?
- (also, this subject is one that I know very well, as my grandparents passed away shortly before I graduated high school......)
- 1w, 20h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ah. Fair enough, no attempts at panacea sandies.
- For Joanna, I want to say sibling. Perhaps even a twin. I can think of no closer relationship, none more devastating when sundered.
- 1w, 20h ago
- Speckle said:
- "whistles" Wow and to see how they 'came back'....a reflection of yourself, of who you believe to be your better half, all zombie.....
- No wonder Joanna cracked and I can see her flashing back to the image often. You don't forget something like that; you just don't.
- I see the father as having come to grips with his grief best; let's call him Lyle, the dependable Dad. The mother is somewhere between her husband and daughter, a middle ground that has made a normally cheerful person more subdued. Anita, that'll be her name, and she loved the lost twin, who I feel is a Cornelia. Should we flesh out (dear God) the twin?
- For some reason, I can also see Joanna having a dog as a pet.
- 1w, 19h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Definitely. Every good necromancer needs a dog. Plenty of bones to be dug up, after all.
- To get a good grasp on Cornelia, we'd need to understand what Joanna was like before she broke. Were the twins opposites, similar in thought, or just two people who happened to share a genome?
- In any case, Joanna probably won't stay home for very long. There are butcher shops and taxidermists to terrorize, and every time she looks at a Witch, she sees Cornelia's half-rotted face...
- 1w, 19h ago
- Speckle said:
- Hmmmm...
- They each had their own individual styles and interests; Joanna loved to garden and wear jeans while Cornelia would play video games for hours and had to be urged out of her pajamas, that sort of thing. Both enjoyed being with their family, their dog included, and though Anita tended to dote on Cornelia since she's clinically the younger twin (by two or three minutes), it never got to the point of favoritism. School was normal for them, barring being affectionately called the Class Clones, and their neighborhood was average. Everything about their lives were normal....until it happened.
- Which brings up the question: how did Cornelia die?
- 1w, 19h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I want to say an accident of some kind. Drunk driver, most likely. She was just in the wrong time and place. One moment she was there, the next... she wasn't. And quite a few moments later, an alien being intruded on her sister's mourning.
- 1w, 19h ago
- Speckle said:
- Dear God, that's depressing
- We have the perfect scenario for a perfect life shattered to what Joanna will become soon after.
- 1w, 18h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Indeed. Odds are she ran away from home shortly after results of her wish. Now her only friends are made of dead tissue.
- Well, on that depressing note, why don't we move on to Gilda May, our Orzhov Syndicate magical girl, who rose and fell past the poverty line?
- 1w, 18h ago
- Speckle said:
- Onward we go!
- ......um, I'm not 100% good with money, never was, likely cuz I'm not god at Math. I'll just focus on the family in question.
- Here we have yet another only child, Gilda, and her two parents: her mother, who tries to make money at every opportunity, because her husband, Gilda's father, repeatedly made bad investments. It's not that he's dumb in that regard, he just REALLY believed in what he put his stock in, however that works. It all happened shortly after Gilda turned eight and has been going downhill ever since.
- Guh, that sounds terrible. Anything there you can salvage?
- 1w, 18h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Let me get back to you in the morning. This one's complicated enough that I'm going to need to look at it fresh.

- Gotcha.
- I'm off to raid the fridge before bed, myself
- 1w, 8h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I'm thinking both of Gilda's parents are working at just above minimum wage, barely enough to keep their heads above water, especially with their daughter's needs. They're very careful, very scrupulous. They're genuinely good people; they just can't get ahead.
- Then comes the wish windfall, and... well, they get caught up in the excitement of seeing several more digits in their bank account balance. Suddenly, important people are interested in them. All the things they dreamt of doing, they now can. They no longer have to live paycheck-to-paycheck... for a while.
- Then it all comes crashing down, and only then do the Mays realize how many bridges they burnt during their time of plenty. And their daughter knows it's all her fault.
- How's that?
- 1w, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- Had to be present for the vet: turns out one dog is overweight and we need to set her on a diet. And now, back to the girls!
- That is SO much better than what I turned out; good gravy, it was a train wreck. Money has never been my strong-suit. And what about the aftermath? We both mentioned Gilda's situation similar to Kyouko's: just how far are we going with that?
- 1w, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I wouldn't go so far as suicide, but I do see the parents' relationship strained past the breaking point. And at some point, Gilda slips away, and neither really seems to notice until there's no trace of her...
- Sheesh. I worry myself sometimes.

- "patpat" How come? You've got wonderful ideas.
- 1w, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Yeah, but they can awfully dark at times. Look at what I've done with Pinkie Pie.
- Anyway, Gilda's probably roughing it about a year after her wish. Does she have any trusted contacts, or is she a lone wolf?
- 1w, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- You should take a look into my head sometime. You wanna see dark? Boy, do I have dark stuff just waiting for an excuse to see the light of day
- And I think Planeswalker!Pinkie Pie is awesome
- I think she'd try to punish herself by isolating herself, maybe even contemplate letting her Soul Gem corrupt. Options for that is that she either allows this or finds a reason to live, like protecting people from Witches. She could have had a friend or two, maybe a crush before everything went South.

- Yes indeed, Chloe is next with her Equalized Pony Parents
- I think we've got Gilda figured out.

- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Well, you established that she's an only child and that her parents were bickering over just about everything before the wish. Afterwards, we've got Stepford Parents. And Stepford Neighbors. And Teachers...
- I feel like her father is a Robert. There's a Rob/Bob feel to him. I'm picturing a sloppier Freddy Mercury for some reason. I think it's the wife-beater. I suspect he shaves after he gets mind-whammied. Not sure about the mother, though.
- 6d, 23h ago
- Speckle said:
- Brrrrrrrr
- The Mom seems like a Sally, a woman easily excitable over the tiniest thing out of place, which caused a good portion of the arguments, I feel. Once she's wammied, however, she'll become a complete doormat, letting everything slide. Dear God, she's gonna spread the Stepford Plague throughout the entire neighborhood, isn't she? o.O
- 6d, 23h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Of course. People are happier after Chloe's through with them. How could making people happy possibly be a bad thing?
- Now, friends. Friends were probably Chloe's refuge before her wish. What are they like, and how do they react to their friend going all mind-rapist cult leader?
- 6d, 22h ago
- Speckle said:
- Brrrrrrrrr, yet again
- Well, we could always give her a boyfriend, something I've wanted to put with a Magical Girl for a while, now. He could be Charles 'Charlie' Davis, a good kid who would do anything to make Chloe smile. And/or a next-door neighbor would be a good place to go to when it started getting loud at home. It could be Charlie or it could be another girl, one Wanda Lauren, who's known Chloe for a long time and doesn't mind giving her a shoulder to cry on. One or two others could be part of her CoF's periphery, two who often squabble with one another and fall victim to Chloe's magic.
- How does that sound? Not brilliant, to be honest, so don't be afraid to add stuff.
- 6d, 22h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Sounds great to me. Especially the squabblers. They can go full The Shining to show the rest of Chloe's friends just what she's become.
- "Come play with us, Charlie. Forever and ever and ever."
- I want to call them Sandra and Karen. Possibly sisters, not twins but not more than a year apart.
- 6d, 22h ago

- Sandra and Karen Piper, a play on how they won't quiet down

- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Ha! Perfect.
- So, next we have Stella Adalyn, House Dimir's vanishing celebrity. She's not going to have a lot of interpersonal connections who aren't Incubators or magical girls, but as you've noted, it's possible that those with great unawakened magical potential would be able to perceive her. Or she could just run into one of the other girls.
- And, of course, there was her never-a-quiet-moment life before her wish, being a star of stage and screen. I don't think we ever decided whether her parents were actors themselves, exploitative jerks, or rare exceptions to the trend. (Of course, if that last one were the case, she probably would've made a different wish.)
- 6d, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- I like the idea of a girl with potential seeing her, whether briefly or no, maybe work that into her storyline. A shadowy love story, perhaps?
- I'd go with the exploitive jerk angle, or just uncaring to how she grew up, so long as she smiled at the camera. I see them both as singers of some kind, but one can have an acting career. They want Stella to follow in their footsteps, but all she wants to do is take a freakin' nap
- 6d, 20h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- It all sounds good to me. Especially if the girl with potential finds herself wondering if she's crazy, or dreaming, or having crazy-person dreams. Especially when the mystery ninja girl is warning her about alien bunnycat genies.
- I see Stella's mom as an aging former heartthrob who's decided to live vicariously through her daughter rather than through aggressive plastic surgery. Her father—let's call him Brad—was in similar circumstances, but managed to rebrand himself as he aged, getting into acting. Mom is definitely still using her maiden name for whatever recognition factor is still there.
- 6d, 19h ago
- Speckle said:
- A Brad who's a celebrity and a singer/actor? That's a bit conspicuous, don'tcha think?
- Still, it all sounds good to me. Oh! Let's call the mother Miranda; it sounds extravagant and mysterious enough for a former heartthrob.
- 6d, 19h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Eh, there are lots of famous Brads. And Miranda definitely works well. Should we flesh out Stella's paramour/sole anchor to sanity, or should we have her be another of the girls. (Possibly Aggie?)
- 6d, 19h ago
- Speckle said:
- Hmmmm.......is it alright if I sleep on that question?
- We've already decided that Aggie and Gilda will be in the same area, but we haven't considered the others. Let's do that after the fleshing out of family and friends.
- 6d, 18h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Fair enough. I suppose that brings us to Sylvia Grace, the Simic Combine's cure for moe. How do the hospital and her parents react to her miraculous recovery? How did they treat her before the wish? Does she have any siblings? Was she able to make any friends, before or after getting cured?
- 6d, 18h ago
- Speckle said:
- Uh.....I definitely need to sleep on these. I feel drained, I need to get some of the juice back.
- 6d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- "EPIC POINT" I HAVE HAD A BREAKTHROUGH!
- While Stella's love-life is still on hold, I DO know about Sylvia's history, which is as follows:
- Sylvia basically lived at the hospital ever since she was diagnosed, hardly able to do anything herself and feeling just so dang helpless, she wanted to scream. Her parents, one Adam and Serena Grace, were very protective of her, with her mother always going the extra mile to make her feel comfortable. Her older brother, Thomas, would always stay with her longer to help her interact with objects when she was hungry or wanted to read and the like. It was hard for her to make friends since her limbs wouldn't function properly and thus she found herself in a very dark place.
- And then Kyubey entered the picture.
- Suddenly, she's able to move about like a normal person, all traces of the ailment that impeded her limbs now gone! Doctors and nurses have no idea how this happened, but her family could care less. Their baby (sister) can walk! Her father is always making sure that she won't have a relapse, that this isn't a temporary thing, while her mother tries to engage in the activities that mothers and daughters often do, taking her out to see the world she'd never experienced in full. Thomas feels like he can now move on with his life, only a year away from graduation and he's already looking into colleges, but he still makes sure that Sylvia is happy.
- Before, she had been home-schooled after a nasty episode at her previous school, but now that she can properly function, she's enrolled in a new school some time after being released from the hospital. While she enjoys her new freedom, she's still not used to people and it takes her a while to get used to others. Actually, and I know I said we'd put this part on hold, but I see her meeting up with and befriending Boros Valkyrie Lucy Wren.
- Well?
- 6d, 2h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Love it! Especially since, as a home-schooled, hospital-bound former invalid, Sylvia's going to have next to no social skills. Cue Lucy showing her the ropes both in school and when fighting witches.
- Oh no. We appear to have two sets of protagonists. Oh woe. Oh horror. Whatever shall we do?
- 6d, 2h ago
- Speckle said:
- Well, this IS all about ten Magical Girls, so I'm sure Aggie can share the spotlight
- Every girl has a story to tell and each will have their turn to tell it. And those stories might just overlap with one another. We now know that Aggie and Gilda are in the same place, as are Sylvia and Lucy. That leaves six more undecided in relation, and the setting for the girls are still unknown, aside from being in the US somewhere.

- FanOfMostEverything said:
- We'll figure it out when we get to it. For now, we have Beth Rue, the Gruul Clans squatter, to think about. She and her siblings loved that field. She's probably the oldest sibling, but who were the others, and how many were there? I'm definitely there's at least one little brother—six at the oldest—who wept when construction started.
- 6d, 1h ago
- Speckle said:
- Yes, little Benjamin 'Ben' Rue is the youngest and most impressionable of the Rue siblings. Her other brother, Kevin, was more willing to accept the situation for what it was, always the practical one of the sibs. Not saying he didn't feel sad when it happened, he did, but what can three little kids do against adults and their big machines? I have a feeling he'll suspect that Beth is up to something, but what that'll lead to is up in the air for now.
- Any thoughts on the parents?
- 6d, 1h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I like the idea of them coming to a split decision on the matter. One laments the loss of the field, the other sees the opportunities by the new whatever-it-is. They agree to disagree, and as far as Beth is concerned, content themselves with doing absolutely nothing. (What could they have done? Irrelevant. They didn't even try.) I'm just not sure which one, Simon or Emily*, should have which position.
- *Names subject to your approval, of course.
- 6d, 54m ago
- Speckle said:
- Aw, you don't need to ask my approval It makes me feel....weird.
- Simon and Emily are good names; the former could have grown up in the area and miss the field while the latter sees the opportunities.
- 5d, 23h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Works for me. Now, the Rues probably live in a rural area that's being urbanized, or at least suburbanized. There may not be all that many people in the area, so Beth probably knows most kids her age by name. Would she make any friends, or just stick to her family? Given the squatter lifestyle we have slated for her, the latter seems probable.
- 5d, 23h ago
- Speckle said:
- Knows kids by name, yes, but the latter is also true since she'll come to devote most of her time protecting the field. Probably turning down invites to go for lunch, movies, and the like until the invites stop coming.
- 5d, 22h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Seems reasonable to me. Though heaven help any kids who decide to try and sneak off to the ruined whatsit to drink or smoke or something. Thus beginn the legends of the Killer Bunnygirl.
- ("She didn't kill anyone."
- "Well, yeah, but then I couldn't make the reference."
- "God Almighty, you're a nerd.")
- Anyway, we finally come back to Marie Hermione, a female Tony Stark by way of the League of Izzet. How does everyone react to the sudden spike in IQ? Do teachers suspect her of cheating? Does she have any siblings who can be amazed by her genius? What of her friends; how does she treat them now that she towers above them intellectually?
- 5d, 22h ago
- Speckle said:
- Oh God, that's just gold.
- Cheating will be hard to prove when she's now got the technological know-how to back it up. She could always play dumb and say that she's been 'studying real hard' and her parents, Alan and Dorian (you like?), are just happy that she's finally caught up with her studies. I see her with a little brother, Timmy, who loves to annoy and tease her nonstop. That teasing is suddenly null and void when Marie can now backup her claims to fame.
- I don't see Marie getting snooty as much as simply eccentric, wrapped up in her own stuff that she'll sometimes tune out what's around her. I see her with a guy best friend (who might become more), one Logan Taylor, who is a nice guy to be around and always has something funny to say. You know, one of those people who just seems too likeable to hate, the ones with charisma?
- 5d, 21h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I think Dora would work better. I hear Dorian and I think of a guy with unusual taste in art. I quite like the rest of Marie's family. And Logan should definitely be interesting. Every mad scientist needs a beautiful captive...
- Yeah, you really knocked her out of the park there.
- So, that's the secondary cast. Now we need to think about how the girls interrelate. We already have a grasp on some of that, but the rest, not so much. Furthermore, we may have characters, but we do not yet have a plot. We may want to think about that.
- 5d, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- I figure it'd be set up slice-of-life style with each girl's story starting close to Contract and ending either as a Witch, in death, or - and this is what I'm most hoping for - a happy ending. That's all I got atm. What about you?
- 5d, 21h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- The thing is, unless the girls can survive until the advent of Madokami, any happily ever after comes with an "until she turned into a Witch" rider. Granted, given that PMMM seems to take place in the not-to-distant future, we can certainly set the stories around now.
- An interconnected series of the lives and times of magical girls sounds good to me. Especially if we slip Witches of previously seen protagonists in the later chapters. Still, variations on the framework should be very interesting. Beth's hermit routine, Stella's quest for people who can see her, any and all of them learning the various Horrible Truths... The setting itself offers a lot of potential for fun.
- 5d, 21h ago
- Speckle said:
- Well then, we'll just have to get them to the time of the Advent.
- ....if that's possible.
- Fun indeed :) The appeal of the PMMM franchise is mostly the fact that we're dealing with girls who can pretty much do anything in league with Fast and Furious physics, given the proper circumstances, and if you have the right plot, it can be an engaging ride.
- 5d, 20h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- So... now what? I suppose we need to decide in what order the stories go?
- 5d, 20h ago
- Speckle said:
- That sounds good. Every chapter a tale of the girl in question's life.
- Main Protagonists first: Aggie shall become an Avatar of Discord!
- .....that was good, right?
- 5d, 20h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- I suppose. I was thinking we could open up with a few individuals, leading up to the main event. Or focus on Aggie's journey primarily, with side stories featuring the girls she's less likely to meet. Heck, maybe even do something like a biography lead-up when Aggie encounters a Witch. End of one chapter, she enters a barrier, the next chapter is the other magical girl's story, and the chapter after that is the Witch in all of its gruesome horror.
- Just a thought.
- 5d, 19h ago
- Speckle said:
- Hmmmm, that DOES sound appealing.
- So, Aggie's story up to her first Witch, break. New girl's story, break. Back to Aggie fighting the Witch, break. Rinse and repeat. Like that?
- If so, then we'll have to figure out where Aggie's path will eventually take her, or we'll run out of ammo fast.
- 5d, 19h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Naturally. And honestly? There I'm coming up blank. She needs to want something, whether it's making the world a safer place, keeping her Soul Gem clean, or even figuring out what she wants. Indeed, that may be her journey. She's a magical girl. She did not think that through. Now what?
- Of course, that's just my first idea, and while it gives Aggie a journey, it leaves the destination rather vague. Mastery of her chaos magic? Putting her soul back? Finding a way to permakill Incubators? Of course, fulfilling the first might make her able to do the other two...
- 5d, 19h ago
- Speckle said:
- Now THERE is an intriguing prospect. Though, would that not interfere with Madoka's ascension? If we compare Madoka to Celestia, then Aggie would be....?
- 5d, 18h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Discord, obviously, with Homura as Nightmare Moon. One seeks entertainment, while the other is one who loved her, but was driven to madness.
- The important difference is that Aggie has no interest in ascending to godhood. Well, no more than anyone else does. And she definitely won't have Madoka's boundless compassion by the time she does attain mastery over chaos.
- 5d, 18h ago
- Speckle said:
- Ah, so you have seen Rebellion. I was afraid of spoiling you
- So, she's be a literal Avatar of Discord, then? Having mastered her Chaos Magic, she's be one of the strongest Puella Magi. Do you think Homura's new reign would have any effect on her?
- 5d, 18h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Well, an avatar of little-d discord, in a sense. Big-D Discord isn't really a thing in this universe... unless he happens to be passing through it, which he very well may be. He'd probably give her a four out of Steve. "You've got potential, kid. Now let's see if you can put it to chaotic use."
- Sorry. I think Discord hijacked my brain for a second there. That happens with certain characters.
- Given that Madoka's cosmic retcon would basically invalidate much of Aggie's efforts, it's hard to say how Rebellion would affect her. After all, she'd probably never even heard of Madoka... unless the two of them decided to have a nice, reasonable talk about the matter.
- 5d, 18h ago
- Speckle said:
- Heh-hey, Discord dropped by Always fun.
- How does hearing about Madoka change things?
- 5d, 17h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- It's not hearing about her, it's what she does. If magical girls stop becoming Witches and just cease to exist, then Aggie's journey is considerably changed... I assume. If she does attain full control over her chaos magic in that case...
- The Incubators may try to recruit her. They may see her as the one X-factor that might stand a chance over Homura triumphant.
- 5d, 17h ago
- Speckle said:

- Regarding the Guild Girls, though it's not a complete concept, it's more regarding the flow of it all: we set up each girl into their Contract, one per chapter, and that'll be part 1. Part 2 is how they hunt Witches and integrate being a PM into their normal lives. And part three is when the negative aspects of their Wish start to kick in, at which point each girl must make a choice: go on or give up.
- It's not a complete idea, but I hope it's of some help
- 9w, 5d ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- This could certainly work. We could also present each girl's three-part saga in full. At least, the ones who go it alone.

- In full? As in, all in one chapter? That could work.
- Let's see, Lucy and Sylvia are in the same neighborhood, as are Gilda and Aggie. What about the other girls? Anyone need a foil or a worthy adversary?

- I didn't mean in one chapter each. If the story fits all in one go, then maybe, but some of those chapters would probably end up with five-digit word counts.
- Hmm. Marie and Beth could certainly end up butting heads. Building up vs. tearing down. Stella could fit in almost anywhere if she can stay sane; her visible person could hypothetically be any of the other girls. Susan and Chloe probably shouldn't meet; whether or not they'd get along, there wouldn't be anyone else with free will in the county. And anyone who encounters Joanna is probably going to want to kill her with fire...

- I know that Izzet and Golgori seemed to have some sort of feud in Ravnica, so I was going to suggest that. Because, out of all of them, Chloe and Joanna are going to have the powers that make the Incubators raising their nonexistent eyebrows, correct? Well, technically Aggie too, but she doesn't do anything dangerous with her chaos magic....
- Maybe we're doing this the wrong way. Why not look at each girl and determine what would ultimately be their fate. After that's done, we find a way to weave it all together - if that's even possible.

- That could work too. Work backwards from the exit of the maze.
- Aggie, Sylvia, and Marie all seem fairly stable. Their wishes genuinely got them what they wanted, more or less, and they can figure out the "what now?" from there.
- Susan, Chloe, and Lucy are in an unstable equilibrium. All of them wished for something to fulfill their personal ideals. If they see those ideals disrupted—if Susan loses control, Chloe realizes the discord she's sown, or Lucy finds her vigilante work condemned—they may enter a despair cycle they'll never be able to leave.
- Stella, Beth, Gilda, and Joanna are all set to isolate themselves from society for one reason or another. Their sanity is going to be precarious at best. Without some kind of outside intervention, their current bodies won't be long for this world.

- Aggie, Sylvia, and Marie do seem to be destined to live the longest, possibly making it to Madoka's advent without a hitch.
- Sylvia could be Lucy's grounding force, the one to be there if/when the condemnation comes. ....by the way, what does that mean, exactly? I get that not everyone likes vigilantes, but surely she'd know that with a mother who's a reporter.
- Susan seems to be the type that would exhaust herself in her work, going out the way Michiru, Airi, and Yuuri did; it wasn't grief or despair that got to them (not really), they just used up so much magic to do their duty, it was like....like in your Sideboard of Magic, where Lauren ran herself ragged. Main difference being she didn't turn into an Eldritch Abomination, but the peacekeeping MacGuffins of Equestria.
- Chloe needs to be stopped before her influence spreads too far. In her mind, her Wish came true and her powers help people get along. There was a story here on FIMFic.net that called Faith and Doubt, the chapter The Thin Line Between, near the end, features Twilight pointing out how Cadence's special ability to repair bonds between ponies isn't that different from 'mind rape' spells. Cadence didn't come to the conclusion on her own, someone needed to point it out to her. Who would do that to/for Chloe and how would that even turn out?
- The chapter is here - http://www.fimfiction.net/story/51867/7/faith-and-doubt/the-thin-line-between
- Stella could get attached to one of the girls, or worse, drag them down with her. Gilda is already going to have Aggie come and offer her the chance to fix things or let herself Witch out, in which Aggie will have to take her down and possibly learn the dark truth about PMs in the process.
- Beth's situation seems like it could even out into a win even if she ends up Witching, which I honestly don't see happening anytime soon. The development that claimed her beloved field is gone and she's slowly ensuring that it'll return some day. And if she Witches out? Her Witch form will likely stay in that area, sucking up the hapless saps that mean the place harm while letting the little ones go. Why? Cuz all Witches have their own set of rules, like how Saki's Witch Form ended up saving the girls because the last emotion she felt was Sisterly Love towards Kazumi.
- As for Joanna....well.....with her I'm not sure

- In Lucy's eyes, she isn't like other vigilantes. She actually is a higher force of justice. For people to treat her like she's Dirty Harry with a longsword... that'll hurt. That'll hurt a lot. And if it keeps up, especially if her mother believes that to be the case, it may make her doubt herself, and that chink in her armor could be all it takes...
- I like Susan running out of magic through overwork. She just cares so much about things no one else does. Tragic.
- With Chloe, I see that unwelcome revelation coming from someone close, probably one of her friends. The control spell is broken, either by another magical girl or because it has a finite duration. Chloe gladly, kindly, generously starts to recast it... and then her friend smacks the Soul Gem out of her hands and tells her exactly what she's doing.
- I still like the idea of Stella finding a girl with potential who hasn't made a wish. Somewhere between horror story and romantic comedy. Maybe show it through diary entries:
- Dear Diary,
- The ninja came back. She came in my room this time. She... well, she hugged me for a while. It was kind of weird.
- She says she's Stella Adalyn. Yes, the Stella Adalyn. The one who disappeared six months ago, right in the middle of shooting. She said...
- I don't even know where to begin. This all seems insane. She seems insane. Maybe it was just a bad dream.
- That's what I want to tell myself. But there's a footprint on the windowsill.
- Gilda's fall could be an incredibly poignant scene. I like it.
- Yeah, Beth probably would prefer not having a coherent train of thought.
- As for Joanna, I think she'll be too far around the bend to fall into despair. Kyubey will probably sic other magical girls on her, hoping to exhaust her magic and get her to become a Witch for some return on the investment. If all else fails, her Contract and all benefits thereof will be declared null and void.
- (Continued life after having one's soul extracted is considered a benefit of the Contract.)
- And I'm now imagining Lauren Faust's Witch, and it's kind of terrifying.

- .....dear God, what have I done? O____O;;;;
- Hey. What if, in trying to bring her (boy)friend in on the 'fun' that is her mind-raping, Chloe's Horrible Realization takes hold and shatters the enchantment?
- If a passerby were to ever see her in the act of 'vanquishing evil', Lucy may be compared to a modern day superhero like Wonder Woman. How would that affect the public's thinking?
- Stella's 'love story' sounds funny and looks like it could work, but I also see her as the one the Incubator's approach to take down Joanna. A girl who can't be seen would likely have no trouble assassinating someone. I want to call our Girl with Potential Angela, for some reason.
- Looks like Susan, Gilda, and Beth's fates have been worked out with Aggie learning the horrible truth from the second sending her into questioning what to do next: panic, despair, or shrug it off?

- In order:
- Something horrible and wonderful.
- Hmm. That could certainly work. Though probably best to keep the friend platonic. Mind rape is bad enough; no need to add other varieties to the mix.
- Well, for every Wonder Woman, there's a Spider-Man. It all comes down to whether the common folk will love or fear her more, and Lucy doesn't seem Machiavellian enough to control that.
- Angela, the source of Stella's salvation? I like it. I also like the idea of ninja vs. necromancer, though bear in mind that Stella is visible to magical beings... though she likely has stealthy magic.
- I see Aggie choosing to do something about it. Maybe not Sakura's doomed attempt to revert Oktavia von Seckendorff, but I could see this changing her in a positive way, giving her some direction rather than just derping around. She's going to figure out chaos magic, predict the unpredictable, reverse the irreversible! ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWAH!
- ... Well, at the very least, she's going to try to get her magic under control. For Gilda.

- I've heard the word Machiavellian before, but have no clue what it means. Does it have to do with perception?
- True that Joanna could see Stella, but if they come to blows, the latter can obscure them from the view of the people with her shadows.
- I like the thought of giving Aggie a reason to live rather than a reason to despair - and it's cool about Kyouko. We've seen so many girls freak out at the realization that PMs become Witches when their Gems go black, this will be refreshing. Just, please, let's NOT go down the route that the Pleiades went down: what they did was a train wreck in every sense of the word. ...I also notice that, in the two times I mentioned what they did overall, you seem to change the subject.
- So, once Chloe realizes the Horrible Truth, does she Witch out right then and there, claiming her platonic male friend as her first victim? Or does she stew for a while as everyone she cares about falls away from her in horror and disgust?

- It refers to Niccolo Machiavelli's political treatise The Prince, considered one of the first pieces of modern political philosophy. Basically, it's all about how to do what needs to be done for the betterment of one's nation and the perpetuation of one's own power. In other words, how to be a cunning bastard.
- With Aggie, you know what they say. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Get mad! Demand to see life's manager! And so forth.
- And if I deviate from the matter of the Pleiades, it's only because I don't know what they did.
- As for Chloe, both prospects are tempting. I want to say there and then, but only after a few minutes of her dreams of utopia falling down around her, a crack in her flawless edifice spreading as that one moment of doubt unravels one control spell... then another... and another... until Chloe's beautiful harmony has been replaced by an angry mob, still united in purpose, but against her. Then cue Belobog.
- 9w, 4d ago
- Speckle said:
- Ooooooooooooooh. Gotta remember that.
- Karma got the better of Chloe and now she's doomed to be this Belobog. Do you know what her Witch will look like? I know that their Natures are based around the emotion that got them turned into a Witch in the first place (Madoka's was mercy, Sayaka's was the desire to fall in love, Kyouko's was abandonment, etc.), though I'm at a tie between Horror and Doubt atm.
- As for what the Pleiades did, allow me:
- It all started when Mami rescued Michiru from a Witch, which got Kyubey interested in her. Michiru had a sick grandmother in a coma and her wish was for her to awaken and live her life like normal until it was her time to 'go' (when Kyubey asked why not heal her, Michiru tearfully said that she wanted to respect her Grandmother's way of life or something like that). Some time later, she found Saki, Mirai, Nico, Satomi, Kaoru, and Umika ensnared by a Witch and saved them as Mami did her, inspiring them into becoming Magical Girls and thus the Pleiades were born. Some time passed and Michiru came to learn the horrible truth about Magical Girls and Witches, horrified that she more or less talked her new friends into a fate worse than death. She did her best to keep their Gems clean, which meant denying her own needs, and one day during lunch, when Umika expressed how glad she was to have met her and become a Magical Girl......
- It was too much. The six were forced to slay Michiru's Witch form, but refused to use her Grief Seed, instead keeping it with them.
- They raged against Kyubey, who shrugged off their physical attack with the same stunt he pulled in episode 8. Realizing the horrible truth themselves, the Pleiades set about trying to figure out how to stop it from happening. Nico took the corpse of the Kyubey they killed for study while Umika used her Analysis Magic to study Witches. Eventually, Nico created a synthetic Incubator that they called Jyubey that could apparently absorb the corruption of the Soul Gems. Umika, meanwhile, found a way to clone Michiru through use of her Grief Seed and what remained of her physical body. They showed this to Kyubey and explained how they were going to reject the system, using Jyubey to cleanse Soul Gems and combined their powers to place a seal over the city so that every Magical Girl in the area would be unable to see/hear Kyubey and forget how to use Grief Seeds. Why? Because the idea of using what was once another's soul to clean their own disgusted them.
- Instead, they went around stalking other Magical Girls and, when their Soul Gems became too corrupted, they 'kidnapped' the girls, separating their bodies from their Soul Gems and using Nico's powers to keep them preserved until they found a true 'cure'. As for resurrecting Michiru, well....to a point, they succeeded, but the clones either had a physical disability or went insane when Umika gave them Michiru's memories. Kazumi was the 13th clone and had no memories of Michiru, instead having them manufactured by Umika. But things truly started going downhill when Nico and Satomi became Witches, two events that led Kazumi to discover the truth about herself and unveil the bigger problem: there are three Magical Girls trying to kill them. The reasons are too long, longer than this expo, so let's just say that they were pissed.
- After Saki and Mirai are killed during the final battle, the group spell they cast shatters and Kyubey is made visible again, and after Jyubey disintegrates while trying to cleanse the girls' Gems, he tells them what's been happening. Turns out that Jyubey was never truly cleaning the Gems, but polishing them: it only removed the corruption on the surface, leaving more to grow inside. The Soul Gems that they took from the other girls, grouped together with so much corruption, created a giant Witch that was more or less the final boss. It's only Michiru's Grief Seed and Kazumi pulling an 11th Hour Superpower that stopped the city from getting wiped out. So, basically, the Pleiades made an already hairy situation all the more hairier, causing a mass disappearance - and even murder - of young girls and created human/Witch hybrids that lived tortured existences.
- While I DID like the manga and added what I could to my knowledge of Madokaverse Magical Girls, I still think that the remaining Pleiades got off too light at the end for what they did. Like everything was all hunky-dory despite all the bad stuff happening around them. I'm probably missing a few details, so I suggest the PMMM wiki for a more coherent storyline rundown.

- Belobog is essentially a single giant tree with roots twining through her entire territory, to the point where it's virtually made of her. In the center is the trunk, which shifts into a immense, wooden humanoid figure. Each hand has nine fingers, and where there should be a head, there is only a space between the top of the neck and a vine-covered trellis-headpiece. Her nature is clarity, all veils lifted, all delusions dismissed, every comfortable lie revealed for the fiction it is. Beneath the horror and guilt and shock, there is that terrible understanding of precisely what she's done.
- Belobog is named for a benevolent Slavic god of light and the Sun who may actually be an invention of later folklorists rather than an actually worshipped figure. It seemed appropriate.
- As for the Pleiades... Yeah, I wasn't planning on anything like that. Heck, on her own, Aggie wouldn't even be able to do something like that. Not unless she got very lucky. No, she'd just focus on mastering her chaos magic and spreading the word to any other magical girls she encountered.
- "We're larval Witches."
- "What!?"
- "I'm sorry, that was rude. I'll start over. It's a pleasure to meet you. We're larval Witches."

- Wow. You're so much better at Witch-crafting than me ^^;;
- The Pleiades had teamwork and planning on their side, pooling their powers together to construct what they believed would solve the problem. Love the concept of Aggie's quest for enlightening other Magical Girls :3 Wonder how Incu-butt would take that?
- ......Still, I think she'd say something more akin to "We're baby Witches." Larval is a term that Marie would likely use.
- Y'know, I have a theory that all Witches retain their powers/weapons from when they were Magical Girls: Oktavia had a cutlass, Kyouko's Witch had a spear, Mami's could summon guns and so on. Plus their Witches had their abilities as shown in the video game: Kyouko's could duplicate herself, Mami could wield ribbons, etc. Plus, the outfits of the Witches seem like upgrade versions of the MG costumes, like Oktavia's armor; the Barrier represents the girl's ideal world while the Familiars represent aspects of their life when they were normal. I'm sure you've seen all the attempts to try and re-imagine the Witches in their Magical Girl state: what's your take?

- Good point on the vocabulary. Kyubey may not care much, so long as she doesn't spread the word to those who haven't already agreed to Contracts. Once Aggie starts attacking the customer base/unslaughtered livestock, then there would be a conflict of interest.
- Witches do seem to be enhanced exaggerations of their former selves. In Belobog's case, her weapon is replicated through her own body. I see her headdress reflecting a similar decoration at the head of Chloe's staff. And there are all those roots she can drag out of the ground for smacking purposes, and her signature magic was never too far off from a Witch's kiss...
- Though I neglected the costume. Perhaps a leafy gown? I really like the "pervasive super-dryad" concept.
- As for that ideal world... Okay, first off, what does that say about that one laundry Witch? (The wiki says her name is Patricia. And that it's supposed to be "an ideal school." Not seeing it.)
- With Belobog, I see the area she lives in as a very beautiful one, full of flowers and tranquility, so long as she isn't defending herself. The rest of her realm is menacing, ominous, and dangerous, possibly full of her crystal saproling familiars. The only safe place in this horrible world is by her side, and only if you love her.
- Can you tell I'm having fun?

- Oh yes, I realize now that I have unleashed FOME on the world of Madoka......and it's glorious
- Belobog indeed sounds like the perfect Witch form for Chloe and I thought we agreed that she'd get a gown before. But leaf and clover motifs would indeed be great for a dress
- Patricia's world/Barrier is mostly sky and clotheslines (that she 'vomits' out) that allegedly makes the sound of an airplane crash when it comes down and also starts to rain, heavily. She's spiderlike and noted as a Class Representative Witch with the Nature of an Onlooker. An ideal school with an ideal, normal schedule. And when the bell rings, out comes Patricia to attack those that invaded her Barrier. Her familiars are the Mathieu, ice-skating legs with no wills of their own that shoot out of Patricia's....dress. They're supposed to be classmates and wear skirts, but they have a boyish name.
- The phrase associated with her Barrier from the Production Notes is: "It's raining again today. How long will I continue to be unlucky for?"
- Off the top of my head, I feel like this projects that she wants a nice happy day at school with the Familiars representing her classmates, perhaps one that was always troublesome...but now she has control over them. Class Representative and Onlooker, though, they're two contradicting titles to me: Class Reps are like leaders while Onlookers are in the background. Other fans theorize that she was a victim of abuse while others claim that she died in a plane crash or accidentally caused one with her magic. What do you think about her possible origins?
- 9w, 3d ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- Given Oktavia's wheel-based attacks, I'd say an airplane was somehow involved in Patricia's fall from magical girl to Witch. I suppose she might have wished for popularity, to disastrous effect. Whether that meant social awkwardness or something distasteful, only she could say. And she got blown up, so, you know, not exactly an option.
- We may be diverging from the main topic. There are other guild Witches to consider. Gilda's Croesus, Beth's Caerbannog, Joanna's Shelley (assuming she lives that long.)

- Croesus is the treasure witch. Her nature is regret. Her Barrier is a mansion where she could have the best of both worlds: money and happy parents. Of course, the "parents" are bloated, grotesque familiars and the "mansion" is a series of rooms connected by doors in the walls, floors, ceilings, and even floating in midair. And don't expect a door to take you back the way you came if it's closed. Try to navigate the place, and you'll be as lost and confused as Gilda was when her parents went broke.
- Eventually, all doors lead to the center of her world, a massive pit filled with gold and jewels. These valuables are Croesus. She can rear up part of her mass into a vaguely humanoid form, but it's constantly dissolving and dripping back down into the money pit. Money is constantly running through her fingers, much as it did in life. This amorphous form makes Croesus very difficult to harm. I see her being put to rest by one of Aggie's first truly controlled uses of chaos magic: She unscrews one of her juggling pins and releases a massive torrent of fire, melting the Witch to slag.

- This Treasure Witch is brilliant, from familiars to her semi-physical form! And so is Aggie's level up in terms of her personal magics "eyes a-glitter"; it comes together perfectly
- How's about Beth's Witch? Are you REALLY gonna turn her into that blood-thirsty rabbit from Monty Python? "can't stop giggling" I can see her being the 'guardian spirit' of the field: protecting those with innocent intent and devouring those that seek to destroy it again. Heck, she could even be seen by little kids and only her true scary Witch self can be seen by Puella Magi.

- Because the Orzhov Syndicate combines the worst aspects of organized crime and organized religion into a single almighty lump of "fk the proletariat."
- Caerbannog, meanwhile, is indeed the rabbit witch. Her nature is resolve. As for her appearance... imagine a blend of an angry wolverine and the most nightmare-inducing bits of Watership Down, only it's the size of an elephant and all in this art style. The entire Barrier has that impressionistic, unrefined appearance to it, like a living cave painting. The area is a rubble-strewn field, fairly normal if it weren't for the style shift. It is exactly what Beth wanted, just laden with the remains of what she wanted destroyed.
- Caerbannog herself is pretty straightforward: she just pounces on crap and tries to tear its throat out with her big, pointy teeth. No quarter asked, no quarter given. She will keep her precious place safe, and that means eliminating all intruders. I see her as too far around the bend to distinguish friend from foe, though she'd probably be willing to spare young children.

Horrible realization hit a little late, but dang if it wasn't the most chilling thing to come to light That being said, I still enjoyed the movie. - Joanna's is Shelley, the fungus witch. Her nature is contentment. Her Barrier is a series of twisty tunnels covered in organic material: living organisms, rotting ones, and those that bridge the gap. Mosses, stumps, the occasional bone... the whole place is overgrown with the kind of stuff you'd expect to find growing on rocks or under them. It's a paradise of rot and decay, with death begetting all kinds life. Igors, Shelley's fetid familiars, scuttle about everywhere, their duty being to gather fresh material.
- Shelley herself honestly isn't much to look at, little more than a skeleton draped in toadstools and tattered rags. But like any fungus, the parts you can see aren't nearly as important as the ones you can't. She has tendrils woven through much of her Barrier, and can spit out quick-growing spores from just about anywhere. And that's assuming you don't get her mad, in which case that skeleton stands up, rushes at you like an undead cheetah, and tries to claw your eyes out with finger bones like sharpened trowels.
- Stella's is Fnord, the mystery witch. Her nature is paranoia. Her Barrier is a labyrinth in perpetual nighttime, lit only by dim, bluish moonlight. It's full of dead ends, switchbacks, and other great places to be alone and think, mostly about how you're hopelessly lost and are about to die. She probably has some kind of familiars, because there's a skittering sound you always hear behind you, just infrequently enough that you never know when to expect it.
- Of course, that could be Fnord herself. Millipede-like, with dozens of little knife-tipped legs, she slips through the shadows and the walls with equal ease. The worst part is the single eye at her head. Those who look into it experience all of Stella's fear and sorrow in an instant.
- As for plot/character questions, I'm all ears.
- 9w, 1d ago
- Speckle said:
- First off, the names are brilliant. Just brilliant.
- Shelley sounds like something out of a horror film, could likely even be MADE into a horror film, and the idea of a seemingly simple skeleton, looking very much as part of the background, could come alive at any moment and rip your eyes out Though, I'm surprised there's no sign of Cornelia in there. Remember Oktavia's Barrier? And Candloro's? (I probably spelled that wrong) They had familiars that looked like important people in their (former) lives. And what about the shovel? Shall their be unfinished grave references scattered about? "crazy Twilight grin"
- Fnord's Barrier is every nyctophobe's worst nightmare and could very well cause heavy sleep apnea for any Puella Magi that enter. You really set the perfect mood within her world, a world of twisted privacy. Thumbs up!
- And I wanted to ask, well, when you're writing a story, do you write the ending first? I ask because a friend of mine did that with one of his fics, though it hasn't been updated in a long while, and he suggested I try. But the thing is, whenever I write something, I honestly don't know what's going to happen by the end. I can get an idea, but I have no specifics until I write all the stuff that happened in order to get to that point. So....DO you write the ending first? If so, then I think I've got a huge problem.....
- 9w, 23h ago
- FanOfMostEverything said:
- With regard to Shelley and the absence of Cornelia: Whose skeleton did you think it was? As for the shovel thing, adding an "overgrown cemetery" aesthetic sounds like an excellent idea. Maybe have a prominently placed shovel with a handle rotted all the way through. Where Joanna's going, she doesn't need shovels...
- I don't immediatelty write out the final chapter in a fully fleshed-out draft, but I do make an outline of where I'm going and how I intend to get there. That's actually why My Little Praetor had to go on hiatus; I hadn't made a sufficiently concrete plan and was getting sidetracked with so many different plot threads that the story had slowed to a crawl. Knowing the conclusion helps me stay on track and slip in little hints and lead-ups,
- However, what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another. Everyone's creative process is different, and you may work better when writing the story is exploring uncharted territory rather than following a map. I can't say for certain. The only way to know for sure is to try both methods and see what works better. Go with what works for you.

- .......that's Cornelia?
- I've read countless books on the topic and asked several friends, I've tried out their methods and a few of my own, but I always seem to lose momentum before I even get to the first chapter. I make outlines all the time, even prologues, but everything else is a big question mark. But I keep writing, hoping to find that one story where I'll be satisfied enough to stay and see it through, one of them being an idea that's been with me for years now (an original novel). Thank you for the advice, I sincerely appreciate it and hope to apply it as I continue to write :)
