- So anons,
- This is fucking important, don't fucking ignore this, this might be fucking huge, alright?
- These two translations are from the same translation service, so it should've made the same error on both, if it was an error.
- >National report
- At 04:00 on January 29, 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 1737 new confirmed cases
- >Hubei report
- At 02:00 and 24:00 on January 29, 2020 , 1032 new cases of pneumonia caused by new coronavirus infection were added in Hubei Province
- This is fucking serious guys.
- Hubei is only reporting Pneumonia cases because those are the ones they have resources to test.
- This probably means that they aren't even taking in patients that don't have Pneumonia, that means it's really fucking bad.
- ---------------------------------
- THIS IS VERY FUCKING IMPORTANT /pol/
- YOU BETTER FUCKING NOT IGNORE THIS
- First of all, read the pic. That's the first part you need to be aware of.
- Have you done that? Good. Now listen.
- In China they have fever clinics. Now these fever clinics acts like a screening for the hospitals.
- If you have a fever, you don't visit the hospital first, you go to a fever clinic.
- In the Hubei reports, they have included the amount of people visiting fever clinics.
- They also included the amount of people "seen"/"stay" so essentially, people that were admitted.
- >On January 28, a total of 32,309 people were treated for fever clinics in the province, and 4,095 people were seen [actual translation, stay, meaning they were admitted]
- But if I'm reading this correctly, this might mean that 32309 people came with symptoms to fever clinics in Hubei district, and 4095 were admitted due to serious symptoms.
- Out of these there were 1032 cases of Pneumonia/Lung infection. This still leaves infected people with coughs and fever out of the statistics.
- This means that 1 in 4 people get lung infections of corona-chan, and each day might have had up to 4k new confirmed infections.

- >“I know I am probably a mobile source of virus, but there is nothing I can do if the hospital doesn’t receive me,” said a suspected coronavirus patient surnamed Li. He told me he was unable to get the virus test because the hospital ran out of testing kits. As patients are mixed in the hospital, the risk of cross-infection is massive, he said.
- >A doctor at the Red Cross Hospital said only a few public hospitals in Wuhan were equipped with testing gear for the new coronavirus and the Red Cross Hospital was not among them. The hospital can only report suspected cases to the provincial disease control center, which will take samples for testing. It is unclear how many tests the center has done, but when I asked six people with lung infections showing on their CT scans at the Red Cross Hospital, none of them had received a test.
- >Without testing, many patients have yet to be confirmed as coronavirus infections despite highly suspicious symptoms and CT results, one hospital staffer in Wuhan told me.
- >A woman surnamed Wang said seven of her family members have started showing symptoms of fever and fatigue over the past couple of days while she was waiting for a test. Wang had a fever on Jan. 18 shortly after one of her neighbors was sent to quarantine for the virus. The neighbor died in a hospital days later.
- >Wang recovered from the fever after a day but started to suffer chest tightness and coughing. A CT scan showed infection in her lungs. But as with many others, her illness was not confirmed as coronavirus infection due to the lack of a testing device.
- >In the following days, Wang’s husband and six other relatives who had contact with her showed symptoms. None of them has been admitted by hospital.
- >“If I could have been quarantined in time, they would not have been affected,” Wang said, expressing feelings of guilt.
- >While suspected coronavirus patients scrambled to hospitals, other patients are increasingly worried about infection risks. An elderly woman surnamed Yu suffered a fever but was declared clear of coronavirus infection. However, under the new rules, she has to go to the Red Cross Hospital for treatment because of the fever.
- >“I have waited for five hours to see the doctor and am so worried about infection,” Yu said.
- >A medical staffer at the hospital said he is also concerned about potential risks of cross-infection from pooling all fever patients. The staffer predicted the policy will be adjusted to be more sophisticated. Hospitals have distributed masks to all patients in hopes of protecting them, the staffer said. But the effect could be limited, as several medical workers at the Red Cross Hospital have also been diagnosed.
- ---------------------------------------------
- >Instead, Mr. Xiao was told that he had a viral chest infection, so he went back home. As he grew sicker, he went to three other hospitals. But they told him they did not have enough beds.
- >Like many of the thousands of Chinese patients who are concerned about the new coronavirus, Mr. Xiao is scrambling to get help from a health care system straining to serve even the basic needs of patients.
- >Mr. Xiao, who was eventually hospitalized on Sunday — about a week after his initial attempt — still hasn’t been tested for the pneumonialike virus.
- We're up to three weeks here before hospitalization... Meaning there's a huge percentage of people that probably isn't seeking care from the symptoms.
- >As it struggles to combat a coronavirus outbreak that has sickened more than 4,500 people and killed 106, the Chinese government is relying on a medical system that is overburdened and overwhelmed even in normal times. While other parts of everyday life in China have significantly improved in the past decade, the quality of health care has stagnated.
- >In major cities like Beijing and Shanghai, many people have to stand in line in the wee hours of the morning to secure appointments with doctors. When they do get an appointment, patients get only a couple of minutes with a doctor. During flu season, residents set up camp overnight with blankets in hospital corridors.

- Anon who speedread the two articles in my previous post reported this, but also asked for specialist in field to a meta analysis.
- >The nonstructural protein 3 (nsp3) is a multifunctional protein consisting of sixteen functional domains and 1,922 amino acid residues. This protein is the largest component of the RTC. Nsp3 is one of the most divergent regions of the CoV genome. The domain structure of nsp3 is variable among CoVs, with one or two papain-like cysteine proteases, transmembrane regions, RNA-binding proteins, and one or more macrodomains.
- >Key functions of the nsp3 include protein/protein interactions involved in replicase assembly and function; polyprotein processing by the papain-like cysteine protease domain; and deubiquitinase activity involved in innate immune system interference. There are one or more macrodomains in the protein, for which roles in countering the host cell innate immunity have been demonstrated
- >In the human SARS-CoV, the functions of this region were essential for viral replication. However, based on discoveries since 2002 and the emergence of other viruses, it has been hypothesized that the “SARS-unique region” is in fact conserved in other viruses, in particular in the group B, C, and D betacoronaviruses.

- >Ralph Baric, an infectious-disease researcher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, last week (November 9) published a study on his team’s efforts to engineer a virus with the surface protein of the SHC014 coronavirus, found in horseshoe bats in China, and the backbone of one that causes human-like severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in mice. The hybrid virus could infect human airway cells and caused disease in mice, according to the team’s results, which were published in Nature Medicine.
- >The results demonstrate the ability of the SHC014 surface protein to bind and infect human cells, validating concerns that this virus—or other coronaviruses found in bat species—may be capable of making the leap to people without first evolving in an intermediate host, Nature reported. They also reignite a debate about whether that information justifies the risk of such work, known as gain-of-function research. “If the [new] virus escaped, nobody could predict the trajectory,” Simon Wain-Hobson, a virologist at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, told Nature.
