  1. FE Awakening draft race: Hard mode, no DLC
  2. ==========================================
  3. Game:
  4. 1 This is a ruleset for a draft race of Fire Emblem Awakening (fe13). Players use a vanilla ROM from any region.
  5.
  6. 2 Players play on Hard Classic difficulty
  7.
  8. 3 Players may not access any DLC features including characters, spotpass (renown), classes, and missions.
  9.
  10. 4 All players must make an avatar character. Players may select whatever options they wish for their avatar, including their gender, appearance, name, birth date, Asset, and Flaw.
  11.
  12. 5 Players must record their time using an external timer. The timer starts when the player chooses “yes” on the first “Save your progress?” prompt that appears after making the avatar character. The timer can end any time after Grima has zero displayed HP on the same game file and the criterion in Gameplay rule #3 has been met. The player with the lowest submitted final time wins the competition.
  13. 5.a The timer will not pause unless the player is taking a break (see below).
  14. 5.b Once the timer has started, it will never revert to a previous time under any circumstance, unless all players agree to restart the race from scratch (see Administration rule #3).
  15. 5.c Any accrued penalties (as described below) are added to the final time submission only, and are not added to the timer while it is running during the race.
  16. 5.d Recommended timers include LiveSplit or AKDylie’s race coordinator.
  17.
  18. 6 Patti rule: If a player wishes to start an entirely new game, they must still play hard classic mode and must still make an avatar character, though they are allowed to choose new parameters for the avatar. The timer will continue to run during the entire process. That player can use the new save game file in place of the old one should they desire.
  19. Note: You can end your time before making the decision to “leave the final blow to Chrom”
  20.
  21. 7 Players may choose to play on either emulated copies or on hardware.
  22. 7.a For emulators: functions such as save states and speedup are disallowed. Macro functions such as rapid-fire key pressing are also disallowed. The emulator should run at no more than 100% speed for the duration of the event.
  23. 7.a.i It is supremely recommended that all players using emulators unbind the hotkeys related to the disallowed functions and remove savestates from folders where they may be quickly loaded.
  24. 7.b For hardware users: you must use a capture card or similar device to capture and record your gameplay.
  25. 7.b.i It is supremely recommended that you begin the race with a fully charged 3ds and that you have charging equipment on-hand should you need it.
  26. ==========================================
  27. Drafting:
  28. 1 This draft is for 4 players. On the day of the draft, the picking order will be determined randomly.
  29.
  30. 2 Players pick characters from the pool of draftable units in “snake order” 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 until 28 of the 29 draftable units are drafted
  31.
  32. 3 Chrom, the Avatar, Olivia, and Inigo are free for all to use. Chrom and the Avatar are free to deploy from the end of chapter 6 onwards, but from that point on may only pair up, use items, and provide dual strikes.
  33.
  34. 4 Frederick is free to use until the end of chapter 6. From the start of chapter 7 onwards only the player who drafted Frederick may use him.
  35.
  36. 5 If a player starts a paralogue before chapter 6 is finished, Chrom, Robin, and Frederick are still free to use.
  37.
  38. 6 Nowi and Gregor are free on chapter 8. Chrom and the Avatar are free to use on chapter 23 until the Validar north of the wall is killed.
  39.
  40. 7 Child units, with the exception of Lucina and Morgan, are undraftable. Instead, a player who drafts the mother of that child unit has free access to that child unit.
  41.
  42. 8 If, at some point during the draft, all players unanimously agree to end the draft before 28 characters have been picked, they may do so.
  43. ==========================================
  44. Gameplay:
  45. 1 If an undrafted unit is force-deployed, they may not attack, counterattack, use staves, use items, open doors or chests, rally, dual strike, or pair up (in any position of the pair up). Performing a prohibited action applies a 5 minute penalty per unit per map.
  46. 1.a Exception: undrafted units may use vulneraries, concoctions, or elixirs without penalty
  47. 1.b An undrafted unit who performs a forbidden action while an enemy or NPC unit does not incur a penalty.
  48. 1.c Permitted actions for undrafted units include (and are not necessarily limited to): entering combat without counterattacking (meatshielding), visiting villages, and trading with any other unit.
  49. 1.d You may reset the chapter to avoid any penalties from that attempt
  50.
  51. 2 Deployment of an undrafted unit from the preps menu results in a 15-minute penalty per unit, which is applied once the chapter is completed.
  52. 2.b You may reset the chapter and undeploy the units to avoid the penalty
  53. 2.c If you deploy an undrafted unit and incur the 15 minute penalty for that unit, that unit can still incur the 5-minute penalty for performing illegal actions above for that chapter only.
  54.
  55. 3 All players are required to complete at least one paralogue which adds a drafted or free unit to your roster. The unit must be in your roster after the paralogue’s completion. A run which fails to do this cannot submit their time.
  56. 3.a All players have access to Olivia and the Avatar as potential wives.
  57. 3.b The total list of paralogues satisfying this requirement is 6 (Inigo), 12 (Morgan), 1 (Donnel), 4 (Anna), 5 (Owain), 7 (Brady), 8 (Kjelle), 9 (Cynthia), 10 (Severa), 11 (Gerome), 13 (Yarne), 14 (Laurent), 15 (Noire), 16 (Nah), and 17 (Tiki)
  58.
  59. 4 Skipping combats, enemy phases, or other phases is disallowed.
  60. 4.a Exception: combats which have forced animations may be skipped without penalty.
  61. 4.b A player who skips a combat incurs a 5-second penalty per combat skipped. The player may choose to enforce this penalty on themselves by simply waiting for 5 seconds on the next time they can make inputs in the game
  62. 4.c A player who skips an enemy or other phase by pressing the start button incurs a 2-minute penalty, applied no more than once per turn. Players may reset the map to avoid this penalty.
  63.
  64. 5 The autobattle feature is banned
  65.
  66. 6 Players may not purchase any items from temporary shops on the world map (the green Anna shops). If one appears, you may buy the items that are regularly available in that shop but may not buy any of the limited-availability or discounted items.
  67.
  68. 7 Special items obtained through glowing tiles or barracks events cannot be used, equipped, or sold. They may be discarded.
  69.
  70. 8 Players may not access barracks events. If they do, they must exit out of the barracks or reset the rom.
  71. ==========================================
  72. Administration:
  73. 1 Breaks: Players may elect to take a break from the game at any time after the start. If they do so, their timer does not run, and their emulator must be paused OR their game must be in a state where it cannot advance on its own (such as the prep screen). It is recommended, though not required, that the players agree upon a maximum break time. The recommended maximum break time is 15 minutes. If a player is out of break time, their timer will continue to run regardless of whether or not they are running the game.
  74.
  75. 2 DNF: Players should communicate ahead of time how long they want to stream and how late they can expect the event to go. You enforce this with a DNF (did not finish) time. If a player is still playing the game when their timer has reached the agreed upon DNF time, they are encouraged to honorably submit DNF as their time instead of continuing to play. Players should communicate what an appropriate time would be.
  76.
  77. 3 Restarting the race: If all players agree to restart the race, they can all delete their current game files and return to the main menu. Everyone’s timers reset to zero, break timers reset to their original values, and the race will restart with each player using the same team as they had drafted for the previous attempts. Any progress players made on the old files cannot count towards the final time submission of the new race. This is the only circumstance in which the timer can revert to a previous time.
  78.
  79. 4 Pausing the timer: Players may pause the timer while soft resetting the game or while hard resetting the game. The timer may be paused any time after the game has been reset (ie you have left the gameplay screen and are now reloading the game) and must be resumed before actions are taken in the main game save file again.
  80.
  81. 5 Stream setup: Anyone intending to stream the game (including and up to any number of other player perspectives) should ensure that their emulator window can run at 100% speed at all times during the broadcast.
