  1. [6:22:25 AM] Do you even story, bro?: I'm trying to gauge something. Have I forgotten about some critical interaction that happened with Brody and Castiel that is impacting my ability for Castiel to respond to him? In regards to events they have directly interacted in (barring Castiel standing in the background and watching such as during rebuilding Gen/Sam), the only interactions I remember them sharing any dialogue whatsoever were during the Quantum Hangover grump, and the last 'argument in the bunker' exchange. And of course last night. But your character seems adamant about him having had some overtly judgmental, or at some point wordy, exchange with him and I honestly can't figure out at what point this was developed so I'm 100% convinced I'm forgetting some sort of major exchange that Castiel might remember.
  2. [3:53:44 PM] Subject 007: Dean's death.
  3. [3:54:10 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Right, that. But that time he just said to do a thing, Brody threatened him, Sam held him back and I'm pretty sure that's where that ended?
  4. [3:54:30 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Cas tried to basically voluntell him to use his magic and Brody snapped back basically.
  5. [3:55:02 PM] Subject 007: By that time he was tired of Castiel's attitude and his lack of compassion
  6. [3:55:34 PM] Subject 007: What he said to Brody, after his father died was wrong
  7. [3:55:44 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Right, but literally... the encounters were 1- Hangover 2- Dean dead 3- Dean's corpse 4 - the argument.
  8. [3:55:52 PM] Subject 007: Mhm
  9. [3:56:47 PM] Do you even story, bro?: So that's it? I'm not missing it? Because then the complete exchange was Hangover, "Thank you.", death, "If you want to help, preserve his body/then kill me"; corpse, "He isn't a museum piece", argument "Liar. Thank you, Dean." And that's literally the entirety of the dialogue exchanged before Brody asked the other day, correct?
  10. [3:57:30 PM] Subject 007: He never thanked him for any hangover, he completely snubbed him
  11. [3:57:59 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Actually he grumbled a crude thank you, but it wasn't put in quotes.
  12. [3:58:03 PM] Do you even story, bro?: It was literally 'grumbled a thanks'
  13. [3:58:11 PM] Subject 007: Never read a thank you
  14. [3:58:21 PM] Do you even story, bro?: LOL it was there, I remember it specifically actually.
  15. [3:58:35 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Because he was doing that 'muttering everything under his breath I have a headache' thing
  16. [3:59:03 PM] Subject 007: Nope, he simply went to do whatever mission there was, and Brody left.
  17. [3:59:31 PM] Do you even story, bro?: You may not have read it as dialogue as it wasn't specifically put in quotes, but that's beside the point, because Brody may have missed grumbling anyway.
  18. [4:01:25 PM] Subject 007: Truth is Castiel has been mistreating Brody whether by attitude or however from beginning. This recent conversation was just Brody really wanting to know what the problem was, and the problem really is Castiel, not Brody.
  19. [4:01:53 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Honestly? And I am usually one to call my characters skeevy or wrong from the outset? I entirely disagree.
  20. [4:02:03 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Castiel isn't the only one lacking empathy.
  21. [4:02:20 PM] Do you even story, bro?: brody took no consideration that his fathers blood was still warm on Castiel when he came in, either.
  22. [4:02:39 PM] Subject 007: and what he said to Brody was still wrong
  23. [4:02:41 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Brb drowning in work chats.
  24. [4:02:52 PM] Subject 007: I don't care how you put it, it was wrong
  25. [4:03:21 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Nobody was right in that situation, but the fact is, Brody wasn't right either. Nobody was right there.
  26. [4:04:14 PM] Subject 007: It doesn't matter who was right or wrong, it only mattered who instigated it and that was Castiel. No one in this reality would have gotten a nice response from what was said
  27. [4:05:09 PM] Do you even story, bro?: But the fact is - Brody is still expecting more empathy than he's given, as well.
  28. [4:05:21 PM] Do you even story, bro?: It's a two way street.
  29. [4:05:34 PM] Subject 007: You are wrong
  30. [4:05:37 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He insulted Castiel on two different occasions for defending Dean, as well.
  31. [4:05:43 PM] Do you even story, bro?: To the point even Dean's player was like "WTF?"
  32. [4:06:09 PM] Do you even story, bro?: And not just quick insults - enduring begrudgement.
  33. [4:06:10 PM] Subject 007: yeah after being insulted, and after almost being attacked
  34. [4:06:47 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He was almost attacked after he threatened, mind you. It's yet another cause-> effect
  35. [4:06:55 PM] Do you even story, bro?: And of course the second instance, after he threw magic in a door
  36. [4:06:57 PM] Do you even story, bro?: cause-> effect
  37. [4:09:11 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He even admitted that was an over the top reaction to the latter, but Brody didn't accept the reasoning.
  38. [4:09:22 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He compared it to firing a BB gun into a war zone full of soldiers when they opened the door.
  39. [4:09:32 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Yes, it was playful, but yes, he could have been gunned down by trigger response.
  40. [4:09:44 PM] Subject 007: Look, this is not going to work out, not with Brody anyway. You treatment of him has only grown worse with you owning your own group. You keep trying to justify Castiel's behavior, and it's just not going to fly with me. I may make another character, maybe. However, this is not going to work out.
  41. [4:10:08 PM] Do you even story, bro?: I'm trying to let you see the reasoning other characters have against his behavior so maybe Brody has a chance to at least see their view.
  42. [4:10:16 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Castiel has even admitted it was over the top response.
  43. [4:13:09 PM] Do you even story, bro?: But he's not going to constantly stand there and get berated for consecutive solid minutes when he even admits his mistakes, explains why, and still gets argued with. Castiel isn't going to keep arguing. He's going to walk away and difuse it. So until there's a chance that you see it, the situation is going to continue to escalate.
  44. [4:13:50 PM] Subject 007: Castiel is the one who is going to have to ease up, not the other way aroun
  45. [4:14:09 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He has eased up. He's admitted he's wrong. He's tried to talk. He's still been accused repeatedly. He's walked away from conflict three times now to prevent arguing.
  46. [4:14:18 PM] Do you even story, bro?: But he has received no give whatsoever from Brody.
  47. [4:15:09 PM] Subject 007: I don't recall him admitting anything about being wrong
  48. [4:15:50 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He literally did last time, but Brody opted to argue all of the finer points. He outright admitted he knew his reaction was extreme, and went so far as to explain why it happened by making the gun comparison
  49. [4:16:09 PM] Do you even story, bro?: When Brody continued to argue, he walked away.
  50. [4:16:29 PM] Subject 007: He really wasn't arguing
  51. [4:16:49 PM] Subject 007: He was the one being told to be the reason for his father's unhappiness
  52. [4:17:00 PM] Do you even story, bro?: But he was. You don't see it as arguing but when literally any time a character tries to give or explain they're arguing back and trying to berate or insult other points, it's argumentative. Castiel has given what steps he can but hasn't been given a single step back.
  53. [4:19:53 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He's been threatened for wanting to save Dean, he's been berated for protecting him, he's been given a slanderous array of insults and just opted to walk away instead of instigating with Brody, aside from the one incident still hot with blood, and he still didn't actually hurt him. Yes, he's been wrong, and I'm not saying he's been perfect but as much empathy as Brody expects, he hasn't listened to a single viewpoint anyone else has presented, he argues with every single one.
  54. [4:21:47 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He hasn't listened to Dean, he hasn't listened to Cas, he hasn't listened to anyone when they explain why what has happened, has happened, but he wants everyone to listen and apologize to him, and when they do, he doesn't take it for the value, so it continues to escalate.
  55. [4:22:55 PM] Subject 007: You keep saying Brody instigated, he never once instigated any of the conflicts with Castiel
  56. [4:22:58 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Castiel literally explained why he reacted like that last time.
  57. [4:23:07 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He didn't realize he did, but he did, and Castiel explained exactly how.
  58. [4:23:23 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Brody wanted to know last time? He got his answer. Brody slung magic? It got a response he didn't expect, which Cas explained.
  59. [4:23:55 PM] Do you even story, bro?: The fact that people were heated over being covered in fresh blood shouldn't even be a surprise, and they never got a chance to recover from that one even, but a request to assist became a threat became the lunge that Sam held back
  60. [4:25:42 PM] Do you even story, bro?: So far Brody has made no attempts at understanding, whatsoever. It's not that he's involved in witchcraft alone. It's his execution. Which he even explained last time; the playing with it, slinging it in at bad times (the gun comparison), etc. That's what bothers and concerns him. Thea has witchy background. Ellie has witchy background. But any time he voices problems with execution it turns into "BUT YOU GUYS-"
  61. [4:26:26 PM] Do you even story, bro?: And a general "FUCK YOU"
  62. [4:36:25 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Like he's emphasized, time and place. That's his concern. It's knowing when and where not to. He even told Sam, Dean and Ellie each; he's worried Brody's going to destroy himself with how and when he uses magic.
  63. [4:36:31 PM] Do you even story, bro?: It's not the sheer fact that he uses it at all.
  64. [4:37:05 PM] Do you even story, bro?: But when he's tried to discuss time and place, he got argued. When he tried to explain his response, he got argued. When Dean tried to simmer him down, he argued. When he had a fierce response on Dean's death, Brody never considered they were all going through trauma and never discussed that personal matter with him either.
  65. [4:37:25 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Castiel has, in fact, tried to discuss each matter with Brody to communicate but you can't communicate with someone who just argues back your explanations.
  66. [4:38:26 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Explanations aren't even excuses, but it's trying to make someone understand the why. And if they refuse to understand... you can't make them. And so each time, he walks away.
  67. [4:38:35 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Better than arguing and escalating, in his way of handling things.
  68. [4:39:40 PM] Do you even story, bro?: You can't make someone understand your point of view.
  69. [5:05:36 PM] Do you even story, bro?: No, Castiel's responses aren't perfect. He's a socially awkward turtle. But he's tried. But I want you to look at this from Castiel's point of view. He sees Dean's son casting magic openly. He almost read an attack not knowing who sent it when the door opened. He didn't attack. He's never actually attacked brody, or hurt Brody. He had some sharp words with fresh blood on him that could have been kinder, but received no empathy for the situation either. He only even said "Liar" when Brody accused Dean of being responsible for his witch problems entirely. He's walked away without escalating every time he's been insulted - and he's been insulted a lot. He only answered when asked, and he explained why. And he's been given nothing but arguments and insults over that, such as jeering about his technological abilities in counter to comments of magic. How well would Brody take to anyone in that situation? Because with far less, Brody has been openly insulting him to his face.
  70. [5:05:43 PM] Do you even story, bro?: You need to see both sides of the coin.
  71. [5:06:25 PM] *** Subject 007 nods ***
  72. [5:07:00 PM] Do you even story, bro?: It's like dealing with an eight year old that is viciously protecting its parent/slash/kindergarten crush/slash whatever
  73. [5:07:13 PM] Do you even story, bro?: But it's tried to apologize and say why and just gets insulted afterward. And it walks away.
  74. [5:07:31 PM] Do you even story, bro?: It'd be another thing if he just came out yelling and jeering at him... but he hasn't.
  75. [5:08:38 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He just... walks away every time he's been insulted until the situation can boot calmly. He's done it three times now and I've been hoping Brody could notice the pattern.
  76. [5:11:03 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He's been called a girlfriend, a fuckbuddy, a mistake, had his reason for falling from heaven insulted, I mean, just about anything Brody could ever throw to try to deeply hurt him, he has. And he just walks out.
  77. [5:12:18 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Whereas when asking Castiel directly for a reason he doesn't take well to him, he discusses the time-and-place of his magical use; Brody argues he was raised like that; Castiel counters so was he and he's still concerned; then the insults fly again, such as with technology, and fresh attacks. And again he leaves. That's been the problem every time. Castiel literally hasn't been able to talk to him without getting insulted or even threatened so far.
  78. [5:16:45 PM] Do you even story, bro?: So I've been at a point I don't know what to do with Castiel because any time I try to play him, he's just... at this impasse. I can't do anything else without breaking character. He's not some 100% in the wrong, he's not 100% right but nobody's ever 100% right. He's been cast as being incredibly immature about the situation but all he's done is be hurt when mourning, walk out when insulted, go quiet when accused, and answer when asked. And I don't know what else needs to be done to appease anyone that is rightfully in character for him.
  79. [5:22:56 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Like, I legitimately want you to tell me, now hearing it from the other end of the perspective, what you believe I should have Castiel do to bridge that gap that doesn't involve violently breaking character attributes.
  80. [5:29:42 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Like legit - I do want to fix this but I'm at a brick wall on my end where I don't know what to do.
  81. [5:32:51 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Being quiet hasn't worked. Answering hasn't worked. Leaving hasn't worked. Explaining hasn't worked. So I'm literally at a loss what I can have Castiel do that still ranges in the realm of possible Castiel courses of action based on historic interaction so far.
  82. [5:35:44 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Because so far I'm only seeing "I'm sorry I was fierce when covered in his blood; I'm sorry I seethed when you threatened me for it; I'm sorry I reacted proactively when I saw magic flying at your father; I'm sorry I disagree with when and how you use magic; I'm sorry your father threw you out when you got vocal" And on a whole there's been no gesture of solidarity to even make that a reasonable compliance that I can see because it overturns pretty much everything about him.
  83. [5:47:12 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Like... I want you to imagine this. You're covered in your brother or lover's blood, still warm. You're weeping and protecting a body, and snap at someone. They threaten to kill you. You lunge, but hold back. They miraculously return. You see a bullet fly at them and sweep into action to defend them, but find in a split moment of recognition, it was a BB. You're still worried. You check them over. The person who had previously threatened you is now calling you a faggot, and a failure, and a nigger, and whatever else they can. Your brother or lover tells them to respect you. They keep insulting you and the brother or lover. You thank your brother or lover for defending your honor and walk out. The next time you see them, they ask why you have a problem with them. When you explain why you reacted like that, they start insulting you for other areas of unrelated incompetence. You choose to leave again.
  84.
  85. How would you honestly feel about this individual? I want to know, you, as a human being, how would you feel about this?
  86. [5:47:29 PM] Do you even story, bro?: And what do you want me to do to take steps to repair this broken relationship?
  87. [6:07:58 PM] Subject 007: I stopped reading that a while back >_>
  88. [6:08:30 PM] Do you even story, bro?: I need you to actually read it. Because I've been trying to fix the Brody situation. And I need you to actually review it on a human level to understand where Castiel is at, and what you think I can do to bridge it from my end.
  89. [6:08:54 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Like...
  90.
  91. How would you honestly feel about this individual? I want to know, you, as a human being, how would you feel about this?
  92. And what do you want me to do to take steps to repair this broken relationship?
  93.
  94. At least read that part.
  95. [6:10:08 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Because I need to know what you want me to do that is reasonably in Castiel's range of behavior that I might be able to meet you midway at, but you need to understand that side of it first.
  96. [6:10:19 PM] Do you even story, bro?: I get it. Brody's upset too.
  97. [6:14:28 PM] Subject 007: After that holier than thou explanation, there is nothing he can do at this moment to repair anything except give it time. Keep in mind he came to you asking what the problem was, and as an answer you pretty much told him that he was the reason for his father's unhappiness.
  98. [6:14:52 PM] Subject 007: There is nothing Castiel can do.
  99. [6:14:54 PM] Subject 007: Nothing.
  100. [6:15:21 PM] Do you even story, bro?: It's not a holier than thou explanation. It's a literal viewpoint. But if Brody can't be made to consider the other viewpoint despite Castiel trying to explain, then unfortunately, we're going to have to call it a draw and walk away with that one, hand folded.
  101. [6:15:30 PM] Do you even story, bro?: I understand Brody's viewpoint too.
  102. [6:15:33 PM] Subject 007: It was very holier than thou
  103. [6:15:48 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Castiel has been fierce in bad times. Castiel snipped and clipped. Castiel has given fierce glares. Castiel has seemed judgmental. I've acknowledged that
  104. [6:16:15 PM] Do you even story, bro?: But if there's no working attempt to bridge the differences from the other end, then I can't... really do anything.
  105. [6:16:31 PM] Subject 007: Give it time, and Brody will ultimately try again.
  106. [6:16:39 PM] Subject 007: It is what he does.
  107. [6:17:12 PM] Subject 007: He's like me. We get mad, hold a momentary grudge, then build a bridge and get the fuck over it, you know?
  108. [6:17:35 PM] Do you even story, bro?: I really do want you to consider, from the point of view Castiel has experienced, how you would feel as an individual. That's what I was asking you to review. I never said it's the entire picture.
  109. [6:17:40 PM] Subject 007: Then he'll come back to the bunker as he always does
  110. [6:18:24 PM] Subject 007: Castiel wouldn't understand human emotion if it bit him on the big toe, so why consider that
  111. [6:18:40 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Very untrue. He understands it, he just understands it poorly. It's raw, and crude, like a child.
  112. [6:19:54 PM] Do you even story, bro?: He has literally 2 billion years of technical knowledge of sciences and magics, but his experience in the human world or the soulful experience is less than eight. And he's been thrown through a few emotional woodchippers on the way. He comprehends it, but it's sort of a Picasso of emotions and dealing.
  113. [6:21:55 PM] Subject 007: Brody doesn't hate Castiel, never did. There is a degree of intolerance to what he sees as anti-witch or whatever, but he does not hate him. If he can't take Brody's cynicism then why is he even around Dean?
  114. [6:22:15 PM] Subject 007: Dean is very cynical
  115. [6:22:50 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Because Dean and him actually went through the works together, they earned each other's trust through courses of action they were bound in together. Furthermore, it's not that he's cynical. It's that he isn't argumentative. The only times Castiel has ever stood to argue a point beyond a base statement is if it's Dean putting his life on the line. Because it's Dean.
  116. [6:22:57 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Even Sam he lets walk away after laying a point if it's ignored.
  117. [6:23:03 PM] Do you even story, bro?: And he'll walk away from Sam.
  118. [6:24:01 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Not to mention the whole contracted/bound to Dean... issue.
  119. [6:28:08 PM | Edited 6:28:31 PM] Subject 007: and Brody's reaction is to walk away as well, say whatever is left on his mind and walk away. Brody does stand his ground, call It argumentative if you want, but it is who he is. He is not the type to back down or walk away for long. This very issue has been a thorn in his ass, and it's like writing with the same pen that is out of ink on in different spots on the same paper expecting different results, after a while the irrelevancy and impracticality of trying again is going to kick in, and a new pen and perhaps paper is picked up.
  120. [6:29:52 PM] Do you even story, bro?: Then maybe in time he'll recognize that initiating in the insult cycle isn't going to get far. Because otherwise, Castiel is going to continue to be Castiel as well: endure as need be, leave when he can, answer when directly asked and take his pardon when conflict that leads to nothing rises. They may have to repeat this cycle multiple times. Know that it's not me intentionally going out of my way to give you hell with Cas. IC he's tried, OOC I've tried to reach out to explain where it's coming from and if we can find a way to meet in the middle and you said no. So I guess lather, rinse, repeat until something washes out.
