  1. Rematches are not allowed. If both players forfeit in a race it will be considered a loss for them both.
  2. If the match consists of a single race:
  3. * In a single-elimination bracket match both players would be eliminated. The person who was supposed to play against the winner would instead get a bye (a free win). The same outcome applies to a match in the losers bracket of a double-elimination tournament.
  4. * In the winners bracket of a single-elimination tournament both players would be eliminated from the winners bracket. The person who was supposed to play against the winner would instead get a bye (a free win). The two forfeiting players would then play a "tie-breaker" match to determine who continues in the losers bracket and who is eliminated entirely.
  5. * In a group-format or Swiss match, the match would be considered a tie (worth 0.5 points for each player).
  6.
  7. If the match consists of multiple races (win N races to win the match) both players will receive 1 WIN. If the win causes one of the players to reach N wins, that player wins the match. However if the win causes BOTH players to reach N wins (tied at the number of wins needed to win the match) then the entire match is treated as a double-forfeit. The results of a double-forfeit match are explained above, and they will vary depending on what stage of the tournament we're in.
  8.
  9. Once a race begins it will continue until one of the players types ".done" in SRL IRC (or in Discord if that's what is being used for the race). You are responsible for all equipment failures. Clean/update/stress-test all of your equipment to reduce the risk of problems during a race. You will not be allowed to rematch under any circumstances. It doesn't matter if it was your fault or just a freak accident.
  10. If you lose your progress you can:
  11. * Start again from the beginning.
  12. * [Start from a save file that was created during this race.]
  13. * [Start from a password. The password must return you to the state you were in (or as close to it as the password system allows) at a specific moment in your run when such a password would have been available to you. [Reword to fit the specific game]]
  14. * Forfeit from the match by typing ".forfeit" or ".quit".
  15. Even after you have forfeited you may still type ".undone" to unforfeit and continue playing.
  16. [for randomizer] However you may only do this if you have not opened up any of the resources to which you are supposed to remain blind (twitch chat, the restream, whispers, discord chat, etc). Even while you are forfeited you may choose to continue playing your game, as long as you stream it and follow all rules of normal tournament play (no savestates, etc). For instance your strategy after a forfeit might be to play a few minutes into the game to give yourself a head start in case your opponent also needs to start again from the beginning. However note that your only way of knowing your opponent's progress is by reading what they type in the SRL IRC channel. All other communication sources must remain closed, as per randomizer rules.
  17. [for non-randomizer] You have the option of seeing how your opponent's run is going and then deciding if you want to unforfeit and continue playing (for instance if your opponent also suffers a major failure).
  18. If both players have forfeited then the two players will be asked if either one of them wants to continue playing. If neither player wants to continue the race will be considered a double-forfeit, the results of which are explained above.
  19.
  20. We recommend budgeting extra time for your race; enough that you will be able to finish even if you need to start over after an equipment failure. If your time is too limited for this, you'll need to either reschedule (before the race begins!) or accept that you might have to forfeit if a failure happens.
  21.
  22. For all races, the order in which the players type ".done" is what determines the winner. No exceptions will be made, even if you disconnect from IRC and it prevents you from typing ".done". As you approach the end of your run (a few minutes before) we recommend testing if your IRC connection is still active so that you will have time to reconnect if it isn't. In the event of a tie (so close that RaceBot can not distinguish the winner) we will use the recordings (VODs) of the the stream to determine the winner. If there is not enough information available in the recording or if the result is ambiguous the players will rematch at a date and time of their choosing.
  23.
  24. Even if RaceBot malfunctions or the SRL IRC channel closes prematurely, the race will continue uninterrupted. Keep playing as best you can, and do not stop. We'll decide on a new place for the players to type ".done", such as a new IRC channel or a Discord channel. Typing ".done" in this new location will be considered the official determiner of the winner. If we can not find a place where both players are able to ".done" conveniently (or if one of the players can't be reached) we will use the recordings (VODs) of the the stream to determine the winner.
