Erlang lit the lamp of wisdom in front of his gate. Chanting the great mantra of the Jewel of Muni, Erlang Shen, closely accompanied by the four Arhats, moved mountains and overturned seas, to capture the traveler(wukong). He churned rivers and seas, restraining Wukong.

He pressed Tai Mountain down on the traveler and waited for Tangseng (Tang Sanzang),  to complete his journey for scriptures. Despite the great abilities of Sun Wukong, he was ultimately held under the foot of the great mountain, all to aid the elder Tangsen.
