  58. Frequently Asked Questions:
  59.
  60.
  61.
  62. Q. Why can't DQ8MR run on my newest phone?
  63.
  64. A. Most likely your newest phone dropped ARMv7 support.
  65.
  66. This (among other changes) have been pushed by Google as a way to curb piracy, but in reality only harm people who want to support legacy apps with major patches and improvements.
  67.
  68. Meanwhile, piracy groups have very little issue getting around this.

  72.
  73. Q. Why can't DQ8MR just be updated to get around this?
  74.
  75. A. DQ8MR relies on a handful of different libraries, some of which never were made for ARMv8.
  76.
  77. This really boils down to a licensing dispute between Unity and Mono.
  78.
  79. Mono is the backend that DQ8MR relies on, and is what Unity originally relied upon for code execution.
  80.
  81. However, when ARMv8 rolled around, Unity did not want to continue licensing Mono, so they moved to their own backend, IL2CPP.
  82.
  83. IL2CPP has some advantages, but is known for being less stable and prone to crashing. This is a big reason why you see numerous 1-star reviews of vanilla DQ8 (on ARMv8) crashing and left in an overall unplayable state.
  84.
  85. DQ8MR cannot be ported to that backend. As such, it can only run on ARMv7-compatible devices for the time being.
  86.
  87.
  88.
  89.
  90. Q. Is there any solution I can use to play DQ8MR?
  91.
  92. A. Yes. If you'd like to play on a newer phone, I have heard that vPhoneOS can be used for some apps, but this has not been tested extensively for DQ8MR.
  93.
  94. Alternatively, if you have a PC, you can download Bluestacks and follow the linked instructions on Romhacking.net to get it setup.
