Originally designed as a high speed, lightweight Battle Armor, the Makhaira's role and size were radically altered to fit the battlefield needs of reuniting the Free Worlds League.

CAPABILITIES:
The Makhaira's redesign goals aimed for two primary objectives. The first was accurate and sustained LRM fire, while the second was durability. The first point was achieved by installing an LRM-4 launcher with a sizable 10 round magazine directly into the spine of the now assault sized battle armor. The second point was achieved by mounting a relatively thick skin of Mimetic armor, keeping the squad hidden from easy detection.

DEPLOYMENT:
Released in 3136 to little overt fanfare on Oriente, the Makhaira has served as an effective fire support unit. Though originally intended to be used against other Free Worlds states, the Makhaira has gained more battle honors in combat with the Lyran Commonwealth and the Republic Remnant forces in its revised configuration.
The Makhaira has served with distinction in several theaters of the resurgent FWLM’s wars. Notably, the suit serves well against other Free Worlds foes, such as during the invasion of Atreus. During the FWLM’s efforts to secure the industrial spaceport at Cleveland, a lance of First Regulan Hussars BattleMechs attempted to break through the rear lines of the Second Free Worlds Guards. Banner Sergeant Tatiana Dornover and her squad of Makhaira suits led the Regulans on a harassing chase through the warehouses on the outskirts of the spaceport, crippling a Patriot and destroying a Sarath through a combination of lucky hits and concentrated fire. Dornover’s squad kept the Regulans busy until a ‘Mech lance arrived to destroy the attackers. Banner Sergeant Dornover and her squadmates were inducted into the Oriente Legion of Merit for their defense of their comrades.
In contrast to the harassing role against the Regulan forces, combat against the Clans places the Makhaira in an offensive role.
