  1. [00:00.000 -> 00:04.580] One of the reasons that I started this channel is not only to create some awesome content for everyone,
  2. [00:04.580 -> 00:08.580] but also stretch my own abilities and see what cool and unique things that I can come up with.
  3. [00:08.580 -> 00:12.160] I've been a game developer in the industry for over 15 years,
  4. [00:12.160 -> 00:15.620] and it's always fun and exciting to see the new technologies that are coming out.
  5. [00:15.620 -> 00:19.560] I've also been thinking about the type of content that I want to do here on Hacky Things,
  6. [00:19.560 -> 00:23.500] and the different series and projects that I can do to keep it fun and fresh.
  7. [00:23.500 -> 00:27.620] And at the same time, I don't want every video to just be the same cookie cutter thing
  8. [00:27.620 -> 00:32.300] over and over. The last video we did a couple weeks ago, we dove down into a
  9. [00:32.300 -> 00:36.920] game called Starcatcher that we created using ChatGPT and MidJourney, which if
  10. [00:36.920 -> 00:39.940] you haven't watched it, I really hope that you do. But I wanted to see what
  11. [00:39.940 -> 00:43.040] else we could do in the same space, maybe something that was a bit more on the
  12. [00:43.040 -> 00:48.880] creative side rather than the technical side. So a couple weeks ago I woke up and had this idea for a new series here
  13. [00:48.880 -> 00:54.720] on Hacky Things called Deleted Scenes, where we're going to take famous characters from movies, film,
  14. [00:54.720 -> 01:00.960] tv, games, etc. and put them into unique and fun situations. I also wanted to use this series as
  15. [01:00.960 -> 01:08.400] the way to enhance my other skills outside of programming like script writing, storytelling, and video editing, which are all things that I need to practice
  16. [01:08.400 -> 01:12.280] with, especially with all this new fancy YouTube stuff that I'm doing.
  17. [01:12.280 -> 01:15.920] And even though this video is much more on the creative side of things, I still wanted
  18. [01:15.920 -> 01:18.780] to make sure that I introduced some cool and fun technologies.
  19. [01:18.780 -> 01:22.360] The one new tool that I used for this project that we didn't in the last video was something
  20. [01:22.360 -> 01:27.400] called Fake You, which allows you to create voices of famous characters from text prompts.
  21. [01:27.400 -> 01:31.460] For the first deleted scenes video, I wanted to make sure that I chose characters in a
  22. [01:31.460 -> 01:35.760] situation that would be familiar and people from all over the world would recognize, and
  23. [01:35.760 -> 01:39.060] who's easier to recognize than Darth Vader and Yoda.
  24. [01:39.060 -> 01:43.720] I imagined them being in a diner and wondered what sort of conversation would have unfolded
  25. [01:43.720 -> 01:44.800] between them.
  26. [01:44.800 -> 01:48.760] Could I write something that was funny, engaging, maybe a little bit emotional?
  27. [01:48.760 -> 01:51.680] And most importantly, could I make the story captivating?
  28. [01:51.680 -> 01:54.920] Also make sure you stay around to the end of the video so I can break down some of the
  29. [01:54.920 -> 01:58.520] tech that we used and some of the pitfalls that I had to overcome to make this thing
  30. [01:58.520 -> 01:59.520] possible.
  31. [01:59.520 -> 02:04.080] So here is the first video for deleted scenes here on Hacky Things called Darth Vader and
  32. [02:04.080 -> 02:38.880] Yoda at a Diner. What's up, player?
  33. [02:39.200 -> 02:42.000] You will never believe the day I had today.
  34. [02:43.200 -> 02:47.000] Seek with Yoda, you must. And about your day, tell me you shall.
  35. [02:48.000 -> 02:53.000] All the Stormtroopers are making fun of me. I don't like it.
  36. [02:54.000 -> 02:58.000] Tell the Emperor, did you, that other younglings were picking on you, hmm?
  37. [02:59.000 -> 03:02.000] They call me Pepperoni Face.
  38. [03:03.000 -> 03:05.000] To be fair, ugly you are.
  39. [03:05.000 -> 03:07.000] Accept this, you must.
  40. [03:07.000 -> 03:09.000] Why are you so mean?
  41. [03:09.000 -> 03:11.000] Such a dick, you are.
  42. [03:11.000 -> 03:13.000] Put you in your place, I must.
  43. [03:13.000 -> 03:16.000] All I wanted was some emotional support.
  44. [03:16.000 -> 03:19.000] Fine, you big baby. Tell me what happened.
  45. [03:30.880 -> 03:38.520] The day started off like any other. I had just finished my history exam and then went to my lightsaber defense class.
  46. [03:38.520 -> 03:40.900] And this is where Pepperoni faced?
  47. [03:40.900 -> 03:41.900] They called you?
  48. [03:41.900 -> 03:48.480] Would you let me tell Orro, oh my god what happened to your face mid
  49. [03:48.480 -> 03:56.160] journey what happened yours please continue I have just turned on my
  50. [03:56.160 -> 04:05.000] lightsaber when well they all started laughing at me because mine was smaller.
  51. [04:05.000 -> 04:07.000] Oh, you're what was smaller?
  52. [04:07.000 -> 04:09.000] Would you grew up?
  53. [04:09.000 -> 04:11.000] No.
  54. [04:11.000 -> 04:14.000] I erupted with rage.
  55. [04:14.000 -> 04:18.000] I got so angry that I ripped off one of their legs.
  56. [04:18.000 -> 04:21.000] Good God, what is wrong with you?
  57. [04:21.000 -> 04:27.000] Then, out of nowhere, one of them threw a ball at my head.
  58. [04:27.000 -> 04:29.000] My helmet was knocked off.
  59. [04:29.000 -> 04:32.000] And reveal your pepperoni face was.
  60. [04:32.000 -> 04:38.000] Yes, I was ashamed dead. I was humiliated.
  61. [04:38.000 -> 04:59.000] I ran and ran, as far away as I could.
  62. [05:02.500 -> 05:04.500] Well, have you considered getting plastic surgery? You really are an ass.
  63. [05:04.500 -> 05:06.280] I try my best
  64. [05:06.280 -> 05:11.060] hello patrons holy crap what nice weather we're having what can I get you
  65. [05:11.060 -> 05:17.240] to today a pepperoni pizza I will take and make sure you bring it from the kids
  66. [05:17.240 -> 05:22.360] menu one kids menu pepperoni pizza coming right up and also bring him a
  67. [05:22.360 -> 05:28.240] high chair you got it I'm so going to kick your ass i just
  68. [05:28.240 -> 05:33.760] wanted you to have the best seat in the house just get on with your boring story
  69. [05:37.920 -> 05:44.880] i managed to get away from them i was angry i wanted revenge
  70. [05:50.400 -> 05:57.680] them. I was angry. I wanted revenge. I hid around every corner I could find and ducked into every empty room that I saw. And then I finally made it to the lavatory and hid
  71. [05:57.680 -> 05:58.680] in a stall.
  72. [05:58.680 -> 06:02.160] Hmm, so you could relieve the dark side.
  73. [06:02.160 -> 06:05.000] At least I don't fall in when sitting on the potty.
  74. [06:06.000 -> 06:08.000] I told you to never bring that up again.
  75. [06:10.000 -> 06:13.000] It was there that I plotted my revenge.
  76. [06:14.000 -> 06:16.000] I knew what I had to do.
  77. [06:17.000 -> 06:20.000] My next class was against starfighter tactics.
  78. [06:21.000 -> 06:24.000] So I made my way to the Anger Bay
  79. [06:24.000 -> 06:30.000] and modified all the fighter guns to show paint instead of lasers.
  80. [06:30.000 -> 06:34.000] A Sith Lord, you are, and this the best idea you have.
  81. [06:34.000 -> 06:38.000] I climbed into my fighter and launched with the fleet.
  82. [06:39.000 -> 06:41.000] The battle began.
  83. [06:41.000 -> 06:47.000] A bridge of paint burst forth, covering every ship in the fleet.
  84. [06:47.000 -> 06:50.000] A master of finger painting you are.
  85. [06:50.000 -> 06:56.000] Paint was smeared across windows, making it impossible to see.
  86. [06:56.000 -> 07:12.500] My lesson in humility, for those who dared to mock me, was complete.
  87. [07:17.000 -> 07:17.500] With devious plans like these, no surprise. Losing the war you are.
  88. [07:23.000 -> 07:23.500] Well, a quarter of the fleet crashed and died on re-entry because they couldn't see.
  89. [07:25.360 -> 07:29.120] The Emperor must be so proud. Here you go, one very tiny kid's pepperoni pizza as ordered.
  90. [07:29.120 -> 07:32.320] Oh man, look how small it is.
  91. [07:32.320 -> 07:35.920] Is that what you said when you saw yourself naked in the mirror this morning?
  92. [07:35.920 -> 07:37.600] And here is your high chair.
  93. [07:37.600 -> 07:45.000] Oh god damn it. If I gotta do it, I'ma do the most Who's that paid to see a show? Got the south overflow, yeah
  94. [07:45.000 -> 07:47.000] If I gotta do it, I'ma do the most
  95. [07:47.000 -> 07:48.500] Watching me, they take notes
  96. [07:48.500 -> 07:51.000] Razors close to the goat, yeah
  97. [07:51.000 -> 07:52.500] Bobby D, Jippin' and Sandy
  98. [07:52.500 -> 07:54.000] Part of my nose without fancy
  99. [07:54.000 -> 07:55.000] Money on me, I got plenty
  100. [07:55.000 -> 07:56.500] Punished, diddies and twins
  101. [07:56.500 -> 07:58.000] Stay fat, like a lot of them
  102. [07:58.000 -> 07:59.000] Rack, rack, house, but a lake
  103. [07:59.000 -> 08:01.000] Bought that, I was the brakes, floor back
  104. [08:01.000 -> 08:02.500] Pedic on my wrist, I'ma hit em with a drip drip
  105. [08:02.500 -> 08:04.000] They gon' pay the VIP to get a pic with me
  106. [08:04.000 -> 08:25.000] I'm star, brand new keys to cars In the box, and they came down the bar Got me so high, so addicted Welcome back everybody.
  107. [08:25.000 -> 08:28.000] Thank you so much for taking time to watch that video.
  108. [08:28.000 -> 08:31.900] I really hope that you enjoyed watching it as much as I did creating it.
  109. [08:31.900 -> 08:36.180] It was an absolute blast opening up the editing software every single day and trying to bring
  110. [08:36.180 -> 08:37.560] that story to life.
  111. [08:37.560 -> 08:41.600] For this video, we actually dove into two primary generative AI technologies.
  112. [08:41.600 -> 08:46.960] The first one being Mid Journey, which I'm pretty sure most of you are familiar with at this point, and Fake You,
  113. [08:46.960 -> 08:52.800] which generated all of the voices that you heard for Yoda, Darth Vader, and the droid. I'm fairly certain in the video
  114. [08:52.800 -> 08:58.840] you noticed a lot of inconsistencies and derpiness with the images and dialogue, but honestly that was part of the fun.
  115. [08:58.840 -> 09:00.960] I didn't want this video to be flawless.
  116. [09:00.960 -> 09:03.200] I actually wanted it to be a little screwed up,
  117. [09:03.200 -> 09:08.440] and I knew it was going to look that way going in and I think it actually made the video even better. But
  118. [09:08.440 -> 09:12.200] there were lots of times that I had to go back and forth pretty heavily with Mid Journey
  119. [09:12.200 -> 09:16.280] to get the images that I wanted. At the start of the video, it didn't take a whole lot
  120. [09:16.280 -> 09:20.840] of effort for me to get Yoda to appear in a diner or to have Darth Vader walking through
  121. [09:20.840 -> 09:28.340] it. But as the story went on and we started adding more plot devices such as the pizza or it raining outside while sitting in the diner, it
  122. [09:28.340 -> 09:33.160] became increasingly difficult to get the images to produce correctly. Sometimes
  123. [09:33.160 -> 09:36.800] when I was trying to get the rain to appear outside the window for instance,
  124. [09:36.800 -> 09:40.760] it would appear inside the diner and you probably noticed that watching the video.
  125. [09:40.760 -> 09:44.480] The one technology that I did use that was new to me this time around was
  126. [09:44.480 -> 09:48.360] called FakeU and it's what generated all the voices that you heard. FakeU is an
  127. [09:48.360 -> 09:53.960] online service that allows users to train voices from raw footage or sound clips and
  128. [09:53.960 -> 09:59.160] upload them for other people to use. And as a customer, you can log into FakeU, use these
  129. [09:59.160 -> 10:03.120] voices and actually rate them on how good you think they are. Yoda's voice was actually
  130. [10:03.120 -> 10:07.920] pretty good. I didn't have to do a whole lot of work to get the exact sentence that I wanted
  131. [10:07.920 -> 10:12.080] from it. Darth Vader, though, however, proved to be a bit more challenging.
  132. [10:12.080 -> 10:15.900] While Fake You produced most of the sentences that I wanted correctly, there
  133. [10:15.900 -> 10:19.000] were a few words that became increasingly challenging for Darth Vader
  134. [10:19.000 -> 10:23.200] to say, especially when it came to words that were past tense. A lot of times I
  135. [10:23.200 -> 10:26.220] actually had to spell out the word phonetically instead of the proper
  136. [10:26.220 -> 10:29.060] way it was spelled just to get it to sound right.
  137. [10:29.060 -> 10:33.260] So if you heard Darth Vader talking a little weird during the conversation, that's probably
  138. [10:33.260 -> 10:34.260] why.
  139. [10:34.260 -> 10:35.860] I was ashamed, Dan.
  140. [10:35.860 -> 10:37.940] I was humiliated.
  141. [10:37.940 -> 10:42.100] One of the other major reasons that I wanted to do this project was to expand on my own
  142. [10:42.100 -> 10:43.100] skills.
  143. [10:43.100 -> 10:49.920] I wanted to be able to write scripts better, see how well I could make video editing software work for me, and improve on my sound design.
  144. [10:49.920 -> 10:54.960] The vast majority of the script was written by me, maybe with a few tweaks from ChatGPT to help
  145. [10:54.960 -> 11:00.000] write things with the way Yoda would say something or to come up with a joke, but the rest of it was
  146. [11:00.000 -> 11:09.320] all me. I used Artlist.io, which I have a subscription for, that allows me to use Royalty Free Music and Sounds, and that's where all the music came from, and the raindrops,
  147. [11:09.320 -> 11:12.920] and the kids laughing, and some of the other battling effects that you heard.
  148. [11:12.920 -> 11:17.020] Thank you so much for watching this video. It was a super blast to make. Make sure you
  149. [11:17.020 -> 11:20.220] check the description so you can find the links to all the different technologies that
  150. [11:20.220 -> 11:23.560] I used. Please make sure that you leave a comment and tell me what you thought of this
  151. [11:23.560 -> 11:28.000] video, and if you have ideas for future Delete at Scenes episodes and the characters I should use,
  152. [11:28.000 -> 11:32.400] then let me know that as well. Make sure that you subscribe and turn on those notifications,
  153. [11:32.400 -> 11:38.400] as well as follow us on Twitter at TackyThings. Also, I highly encourage you to take a moment and
  154. [11:38.400 -> 11:52.160] check out these technologies for yourself and seeing what you can create with them. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see you next time.
