  1. A2 hosting has 1.7 secs ttfb, support team says that it's normal for wordpress
  2. I've recently switched to a2hosting swift plan. I started getting 1.7 seconds ttfb. I contacted support. All they say is that slow speeds are normal for wordpress. Did anyone else facing this problem?

  15. I was getting 300-500ms for same site from other hosts earlier. I stripped down all code and tested with just header and footer, but the ttfb is same. I've optimized php to latest version, using cache plugins and all. Is this problem normal for all a2hosting sites?
  16. Thank you for hosting with us! If caching and everything has been setup 1.7 seconds doesn't sound right. I'd love to have our leads look into this for you more indepth, so I can do so, do you have a ticket ID I can reference?
  17. By any chance do you have CloudFlare enabled on this domain? Not long ago we received a couple of tickets about constantly high TTFB on a few sites. As a part of our investigation I recall that disabling or bypassing CloudFlare resolved bought the TTFB down to normal values. I do not know what the exact eventual resolution was, the ticket was since moved over to another team member of mine but if you are using CF try disabling it.

  19. Thanks for the response. My order ID is #YEJ-525-44936.
  20. What are you using to test with and is the site itself having problems? Be aware that some "test" sites seem to skew the results. One for example is bytecheck.com which we consistently found to be incorrect, and on each incorrect site over whatever their threshold is, you get recommended to switch hosting to an affiliate web host from their site. Based on that, it almost immediately IMO becomes a non-credible test.
  21. Who was the previous host? What is the domain so everyone may test their end?
  22. True, also know TTFB can vary depending on the testing location and server being used to test the website's TTFB. If using Cloudflare, there are also lots of topics about TFFB if you google keywords "ttfb cloudflare" you will find many topics about it.
  23. The best tool to test TTFB seems to be https://performance.sucuri.net as it'll test from different locations. The bytecheck.com one seems way off, most likely for the reasons @Kingfish85 mentioned above.
  24. I'm not using Cloudflare or any other CDN. I've used it on some other domain earlier but the speed was never this low.

  26. Totally agree about bytecheck. I tested the site using Google speed test, Pingdom tools, GTmetrix, webpagetest and bitcatcha. I do manually check to confirm the result of these tests. None of them ever gave results below 1 sec TTFB for A2 hosting. I trust Pingdom tools for total load time and Webpagetest for TTFB because I have seen reliable results on these tools.
  27. Who was the previous host? What is the domain so everyone may test their end?
  28. I used Hostgator shared hosting earlier, which is known for terrible loading times. But many people prefer it during initial phase to reduce costs. I used to get 300-600ms TTFB on Hostgator. Some of my friends suggested A2 for better speed, but I'm getting 3-6 times slower page load. My domain is https://www.telugurush.com.
  29. I've stripped most of the code to avoid losing SERP ranks. So, it looks like an empty shell now.

  31. I have mostly used nearest locations for testing. My servers are in Singapore and I've tested using data centers located in Asia. I'm not using Cloudflare, so that shouldn't be a problem as of now.

  33. Thanks for suggestion. I've never used it before, and gave it a try. Getting 0.3 secs response time and 2.9 secs TTFB. Seems like it is getting worse with each new tool. Even I've experienced skewed results from bytecheck. So, I wouldn't recommend it either.

  38. Not much you can do about GTM and GA but could maybe make the favicon lighter.
  39. Good luck with improving the TTFB.

  57. Thanks for testing. The favicon is actually 32x32 image with a size of 528 bytes. I don't think if that adds much weight. It is the last item to load and the server is actually taking a lot of time to close the connection.

  61. TTFB = 1.126 seconds average
  62.
  63. Looks like you might have some issues with your own site and TTFB, perhaps the issues are related? I.e. your server setups are similar for stack, thus getting similar TTFB result issues?
  64.
  65. I don't have the time to dig too deep into the problem right now, doesn't look like you are using WordPress, so that wouldn't be the cause... I will try running some tests later and look at your site code to see if I can see any obvious issues that could be resolved, but I think likely issue is with server configurations, not the content.
  66.
  67. The interesting thing is that your site loads quite fast AFTER TTFB, just not before.

  116. It was a different site I tested running HTML and when I tested default WordPress install got
  117.
  118. Average response time 0.152 secs 0.274 secs 0.274 secs
  119. Global Performance Grade (Based on Total Time) A+
  120. In other words, yes the result for A2 does not look good.
  121. The A2 hosting main page seems to be loading in about 0.02s using CLI tools.
  122.
  123. How are you testing, when are you testing it and where are you testing it from?

  128. Ah! Gotcha! Didn't realize you were showing your results and not A2's results.
  129.
  130. Love the default WordPress testing you showed, nice benchmark to compare to a fully built out WordPress site, etc.
  131. The A2 hosting main page seems to be loading in about 0.02s using CLI tools.
  132. How are you testing, when are you testing it and where are you testing it from?
  133. I ran my tests from Sucuri:
  134.
  135. A2Hosting Test Results Sucuri
  136.
  137. Sucuri Site
  138.
  139. Your results are likely due to your proximity to the domain server being tested, using the above test you get to see results and averages of I think 16 different testing locations, which makes for a better assessment of a site's performance, in my insignificant and irrelevant opinion.
  140. Why am I not surprised that the conversation carried over to here
  141. It was here before, but yes... I know what you are referring to.
  142.
  143. It is sad the other thread was closed, enough said I guess.
  144. enough said I guess.
  145. Enough indeed.
