- Spyschool:Standardized testing is coming up
- epowerpii:hm
- NZ12GTY:I already had ELA standardized testing
- epowerpii:am i da only one with spring break?
- wobster109:PhysicsGeek23 and lingylol pointed out that cutting metal will be hard for most people at home.
- epowerpii:like currently
- Spyschool:im on spring break
- NZ12GTY:Math standardized testing after spring break
- jm88:21st
- RubixMaster21:I already had my ela and math tests
- epowerpii:@ wobster lol
- wobster109:I also have trouble with paper, because good lucky getting a reasonably weight for a fraction of a piece of paper.
- Spyschool:my testing is starting this tuesday
- wobster109:So here's my thought. Roll out play dough to an even thickness. Cut the shape out of it.
- epowerpii:spyschool ur in fremont right? dont answer if u feel unsafe
- PhysicsGeek23:I think cardboard should do the trick
- epowerpii:hm
- Spyschool:no im not in fremont
- epowerpii:oh
- epowerpii:eh
- jm88:im going to try using that strategy for my writing problem
- epowerpii:cardbord is to light i fink
- cutecuddlydog:bye]
- epowerpii:byeee
- lingylol:I don't think it will be particularly accurate
- wobster109:jm88 - WWDMS?
- wobster109:What would Draco Malfoy say?
- lingylol:It is not rigorous! you cannot have a precise answer!
- wobster109:"I don't believe you that you cut out the shape and weighed it. I can't see you doing it so you want me to take your word for it."
- lingylol:make a youtube video
- wobster109:You: "Well I'll attach photos of me cutting it out and weighing it then" LOL
- wobster109:Even better! And then your writing response is just a link to the video.
- wobster109:For a few weeks, you make a video each week of you working through the problem. Each week you link a video.
- lingylol:I wonder how the graders would respond
- wobster109:In the last week it's just rick roll
- lingylol:do you grade any problems wobster?
- PhysicsGeek23:I am a grader, and I am not sure myself
- wobster109:Never gonna give you up!
- wobster109:Well that's a risky thing to ask me.
- wobster109:I do, occasionally, if the graders are swamped. But I try not to.
- wobster109:I interact with you all in class, so I try to keep a distance from the grading.
- wobster109:If I were grading it, then students could come to me and debate the score, so it's best if I'm not directly involved with the grading.
- lingylol:I see lol
- wobster109:That said, if you linked to a video, it would depend on the quality of your work.
- wobster109:First, I would want some method of checking that it's truly you in the video.
- PhysicsGeek23:I remember a student that once send me a power point presentation
- wobster109:Then, it would be just like if you wrote it in words. If a step is not clear, then you saying it out loud wouldn't change that. So I don't think it would affect your score.
- PhysicsGeek23:It was nice (but please don't do that XD), a video is better
- wobster109:You know, personally I would love to see a video solution.
- lingylol:with asymptote animations!
- wobster109:Ok, tell you what. If you submit a video, please start it by saying "hi I'm [username] and I'm in wobster109's Intro to Geometry (1916) class!"
- wobster109:Then, at least I'll believe it's you.
- lingylol:I experimented a bit with them but it was quite difficult
- wobster109:1916 is the class iD.
- wobster109:And also say "I promise that this is really me, not someone pretending to be me."
- lingylol:I'll try it sometime XD
- wobster109:That would be good enough for me.
- wobster109:And if you say those things, then I promise I will review your video, and if your grader takes off points for the video aspect of it, I'll give you those points back.
- wobster109:(But you'll still lose points if your math has a mistake.)
- lingylol:now I feel obliged to do it lol
- PhysicsGeek23:I would also recommend that you make sure to have good video quality, otherwise, we might not be able to see your calculations
- wobster109:Hmm, I'm thinking. I also don't have video experience. I think one way would be to have someone film you on a phone, while you write out the work on a whiteboard.
- lingylol:I was thinking of an animated powerpoint style with some robotic voice reading a script
- wobster109:You can describe your reasoning out loud, and just write your equations on the board.
- wobster109:LOL! I'm imagining Darth Vader's voice.
- PhysicsGeek23:Darth vader would be great
- wobster109:*KRSRSSHHSHHHSHHHH* By the Pythagorean Theorem. . .
- PhysicsGeek23:I would definitely grade that
- PhysicsGeek23:XD
- wobster109:*KRSHHSHHHHHSHShSH* I AM YOUR FATHER
- wobster109:The grader: NOOOOOOOOO you forgot to subtract pi at the end!!!!!!!!
- lingylol:I might have a shot at it this week XD
