  1. CATEGORY NAME: Pokemon Emerald All Gold Symbols (no RNG manipulation)
  2.
  3. RULES
  4. - Resets are not allowed, except the required reset after defeating the Elite Four once.
  5. - No Pokemon can be obtained after defeating the Elite Four, as it is too easy to RNG manipulate a Pokemon after the reset.
  6. - Any item that is determined by RNG cannot be obtained after defeating the Elite Four, as it is too easy to RNG manipulate the item.
  7. - Checking the trainer card before obtaining the starter Pokemon is not allowed, as it allows the starter to be easily RNG manipulated.
  8. - Using an RNG prediction tool to check a Pokemon's IVs is not allowed, as it gives you information about the RNG state that could be used for manipulation.

  59.
  60. THE ROUTE
  61. - Reset for a great Mudkip
  62. > To continue past Level 5, need 5/6 good stats, or 4/6 good stats and good Palace nature
  63. - Beat Roxanne
  64. - Catch a Slakoth with 12+ Attack and 9+ Speed (or 13/8) and above-average Defenses (42 combined)
  65. > Consider nature for Battle Palace as well; good nature is more valuable when Swampert has a bad one
  66. > If the Slakoth is borderline runnable, raise it to Level 6-7 to check stats
  67. > Reset if too much time is lost catching Slakoth (50 minutes is average)
  68. > Breed with Whismur/other instead if you catch a good-natured female or bad-natured, high-stats male (catch Slugma too)
  69. - Get Silk Scarf
  70. - Progress normally, but use safe strats (4 X Attack Rival 2) and fight extra trainers to save candies
  71. - Deposit Slakoth in daycare for experience
  72. - Get Amulet Coin and equip ASAP
  73. - Get Rest TM
  74. - Before Magma Hideout:
  75. > Sell a few money items and buy 7 Calciums for Marshtomp
  76. > Use 7 Calciums on Marshtomp to reach 100 EVs
  77. > Buy more Escape Ropes, Super Repels and X items at Fallarbor Mart
  78. > Fight ~20 wilds on Route 113
  79. - Candy once to L43 for Maxie 1 (likely outspeed Mightyena)
  80. - YOLO the Berry Master's wife and Lilycove NPC for Lum Berry; get Chestos if no Lum
  81. - Fight most trainers in Mossdeep Gym with Macho Brace for EVs and exp. to get L46 for T&L (might want to use 1 candy too)
  82. - Catch Tentacool for Waterfall/Dive (and possibly Cut)
  83. - Get the Super Rod, and catch a Magikarp with good stats
  84. > Level 32+ in Sootopolis seems optimal (possibly L31+). Lower levels grind E4 more
  85. - Get Return TM from Pacifidlog
  86. - Catch Rayquaza with Master Ball
  87. - Get second Return TM from Fallarbor, teach Dragon Claw to Rayquaza, and get Route 114 candy
  88. - Buy 7 Proteins for Gyarados + pick up 3; use all 10 before Juan and equip Exp. Share
  89. - Level up Vigoroth and Gyarados on E4 (die to Kingdra or Tentacruel) and select trainers (Victory Road, S.S. Tidal, trainers that give lots of Attack EVs)
  90. - Buy 8 Carbos for Gyarados + pick up 2; use all 10 before S.S. Tidal
  91. - #1 Do Battle Factory
  92. > Reset if you lose 2+ hours to deaths
  93. - Buy vitamins
  94. > 10 Protein for Vigoroth
  95. > 10 Carbos for Vigoroth
  96. > 10 HP Up for Gyarados
  97. > 5 HP Up for Swampert
  98. > 3-4 Proteins for Swampert
  99. > 0-8 Carbos for Swampert
  100. - Finish EV/exp. training (use 15 candies once L42/43) + check Berry Master's wife for Day 2 Lum Berry
  101. - Buy 2 Hyper Beam and 2 Protect TMs (and any remaining vitamins)
  102. - Use all vitamins + candies + PP Ups + teach DD/Rest/Hyper Beam
  103. > PP Max: Gyarados EQ (10-->16)
  104. > 3 PP Ups: Swampert EQ (10-->16)
  105. > 3 PP Ups: Slaking Hyper Beam (5-->8)
  106. > 1-2 PP Ups: Gyarados Return (20-->24) or Swampert Ice Beam (10-->12)
  107. - #2 Do Battle Pyramid (90 BP)
  108. - Buy Choice Band
  109. - Teach Substitute to Gyarados + check Gentleman for Day 2 Lum Berry

  131.
  132. Need 18 candies for this (there are only 17 to get; 16 if excluding Trick House)
  133. Fixes: Fight more "pure exp" trainers like Steven and various Victory Road trainers (with Rayquaza), use 10 Proteins on Slakoth ASAP, and use more EV reducing berries
  134.
  135. OPTIONAL TRAINERS
  136. - See All Trainers spreadsheet
  137.
  138. ROUTING (PRE-FRONTIER):
  139. - Must make IV/EV calculator spreadsheet, which should include:
  140. > Exact calculation for Mudkip/Swampert IVs that requires entering only unresolved stats at each level
  141. > EV calculator that calculates EVs required to hit these thresholds:
  142. - Swampert: 176 HP, 142 Atk, 125 SpA, 86 Speed
  143. - Gyarados: 112 Speed, HP that is NOT divisible by 4
  144. > EV caps for the remaining EVs (e.g, 140 HP EVs maximum), which are distributed according to mathematically optimal defenses (~75%
  145. SpD, 25% Def) until they hit that cap (and then distributed in some fixed order, like SpA-Speed-HP-SpD-Def for Swampert)
  146. - EV reducing berries available: 8 Pomeg (HP), 8 Qualot (Defense), 4 Hondew (Sp. Atk), 8 Grepa (Sp. Def)
  147. - EV training Gyarados in Attack is quite annoying because of Intimidate; Exp. Share should give 76, and trainers can give another ~30
  148. - Gyarados may need help reaching max friendship. Can give vitamins in Sootopolis to help (+1 each from met location bonus), or EV reducing berries
  149. - PP Ups to pick up:
  150. > Route 115
  151. > Route 109
  152. > Magma Hideout (PP Max)
  153. > Lilycove City
  154. > Victory Road
  155. > Route 104
  156. > Safari Zone
  157. > (Route 103 -- 1 quick double battle for Marshtomp/Slakoth)
  158. > (Route 123 -- 1 quick double battle for Rayquaza)
  159.
  160. ROUTING (BATTLE FRONTIER)
  161. - Pyramid notes:
  162. > Gyarados until dead --> Slaking seems good if you have a Choice Band
  163. > Gyarados' 4th move should be Hyper Beam or Surf
  164. - Tower notes:
  165. > Consider assigning scores to Gyarados, Swampert and Slaking for each Frontier Pokemon, then averaging them for each trainer
  166. > Gyara Silk Scarf/Swampert Leftovers is likely best combo
  167. > Slaking Double-Edge should reduce losses to 10% misses more than Aerial Ace, plus it allows Slaking to kill leads and switch
  168. > Consider Aspear Berry on Swampert for Anabel 1
  169. > If Gyara can beat first mon, its win rate is highest with these Substitute/DD/HP combinations (in order):
  170. - Sub, 4+ DD, 76% HP
  171. - Sub, 4+ DD, 51% HP
  172. - Sub, 3 DD, 76% HP
  173. - Sub, 4+ DD, 26% HP

  193. - Sub, 0 DD, 26% HP
  194. - No Sub, 0 DD, 1-89% HP
  195. > Threat list + best Swampert counter
  196. - Ludicolo1 (can outspeed and 2HKO whole team in rain) | Icy Wind or Mud Shot
  197. - Cradily1 (STAB SE move for Gyara and Swampert + Confuse Ray; can't OHKO with Slaking) | Protect + Leftovers
  198. - Armaldo1 (often 1v1s Gyara with AP and Slaking with Protect) | Protect + Leftovers
  199. - Exeggutor1 (2HKOs Gyara and Slaking with Solarbeam; has Sunny Day + Quick Claw) | Protect + Leftovers
  200. - Meganium1 (same as above, but with Brightpowder) | Icy Wind (Gyara Leftovers to survive 2 Solarbeams)
  201. - Snorlax1 (Double Team + Attract hax) | Rest + Chesto
  202. - Tauros2 (Double Team hax + can 2HKO Gyarados) | Rest + Chesto (Gyara Leftovers to survive 2 DEs)
  203. - Gengar2 (Confuse Ray hax; outspeeds Slaking) | Protect + Leftovers
  204. - Gardevoir2 (Double Team + CM sweep; most threatening when set is unknown) | Doesn't matter
  205. - Sceptile2 (outspeeds and OHKOs Gyarados and Swampert) | Icy Wind + Brightpowder
  206. - Gyarados2 (1v1s Gyara and Swampert) | Protect + Leftovers
  207. - Snorlax2 (Curse/Rest sweep) | Counter + Sitrus Berry (barely helps)
  208. - Skarmory3 (Curse/Rest sweep + damage range to survive 3 Surfs) | Rest + Chesto
  209. - Hariyama3 (can sweep team with Quick Claw + crits/ranges) | Protect + Leftovers
  210. - Gengar3 (outspeeds and OHKOs Gyarados and sometimes Swampert) | Protect + Leftovers
  211. - Starmie3 (outspeeds and OHKOs Gyarados + crit risk on other two) | Protect + Leftovers
  212. - Espeon3 (can 1v1 Gyara and Swampert + outspeed Slaking) | Doesn't matter significantly
  213. - Rhydon4 (can 1v1 Gyara and Slaking and Quick Claw Swampert) | Doesn't matter significantly
  214. - Alakazam4 (1v1s Gyara and Swampert, and Slaking if BP miss) | Protect + Leftovers
  215. - Miltank4 (can sweep with Curse/Milk Drink + Double Team) | Counter + Sitrus Berry
  216. - Donphan4 (Fissure/EQ/Rock Slide + Quick Claw; can sweep with good luck) | Protect + Leftovers
  217. - Gardevoir4 (1v1s Gyara and Swampert, and Slaking if BP miss) | Protect + Leftovers
  218. - Exeggutor4 (1v1s Swampert, and Gyara and Slaking if BP miss) | Brightpowder (Gyara Leftovers to survive 2 Psychics)
  219. - Starmie4 (outspeeds and OHKOs Gyarados + crit risk on other two) | Protect + Leftovers
  220. - Vaporeon4 (can sweep with Acid Armor/Rest or IB freeze) | Brightpowder (Gyara Leftovers) (https://pastebin.com/6qHZ3uk1)
  221. - Sceptile4 (outspeeds and OHKOs Gyarados and Swampert) | Icy Wind + Brightpowder
  222. - Snorlax4 (Curse + DE can semi-sweep) | Counter + Sitrus Berry (barely helps)
  223. - Other Snorlax
  224. - Psychic/TB Lati@s
  225. - Some Regice
  226. - Fast Zapdos
  227. > Gyara Silk Scarf helps with these threats:
  228. - Exeggutor1
  229. - Meganium1
  230. - Snorlax1
  231. - Tauros2 (slightly)
  232. - Sceptile2
  233. - Snorlax2
  234. - Skarmory3 (slightly)
  235. - Espeon3
  236. - Miltank4
  237. - Vaporeon4
  238. - Sceptile4
  239. - Snorlax4
  240. - Dome notes:
  241. > Double-Edge is better than Return on Slaking, but keeping both DE and Return should be optimal anyway
  242. > Don't need Aspear Berry for Tucker since Gyarados has Substitute
  243. - Pike notes:
  244. > Teach Protect to Gyarados to help with double battles?
  245. > Equip Aspear Berry on Gyarados/Swampert?
  246. > Equip Persim Berry on Gyarados for Lucy?
  247. - Arena notes:
  248. > Very hard facility!
  249. > Swampert/Gyarados/Slaking is best, w/ Hyper Beam + Dive on Gyarados, and either 112 or 117 Speed on Gyarados
  250. > Extra Special Defense IVs/EVs help a lot here!
  251. > Protect on Swampert is essential
  252. > Persim Berry may be needed for Greta 1
  253. > 86 Speed seems to marginally increase win rate on Greta 2, and Persim Berry is not worth it at all
  254. > Aerial Ace on Slaking is better than Brick Break (Regis are very dumb in Arena)
  255. > It's probably worth letting Swampert die to Pokemon that leave it at <90 HP, so that Gyara can set up DD(s) to beat fast TB users
  256. - Palace notes:
  257. > Gyarados: Leer is very good with many natures. DD/Rest can be run together since AI is "good." Use EQ/Return or EQ/Body Slam
  258. > Slaking: Double-Edge/Shadow Ball/Hyper Beam/nothing (consider removing Shadow Ball and risking Gengar)
  259. > Swampert: Surf/Ice Beam/EQ/filler (depends on nature, but Rock Slide/Toxic may be needed for Shedinja)
  260. > Spenser 2's Slaking is free with Gyarados/Slaking switch plays for EQ/Shadow Ball
  261. > Consistently using an attacking move with Slaking is VERY important
  262. - Most valuable sets to route for: 3, 4, 5+, 2, 1
  263. - Most important Swampert ranges (for determining distribution of Atk/SpA EVs):
  264. > Skarmory1 (SURF)
  265. > Skarmory2 (SURF)
  266. > Skarmory3 (SURF)
  267. > Skarmory4 (SURF)
  268. > Marowak2 (SURF, 125 guarantees on 31 IV only)
  269. > Marowak3 (SURF, 125 guarantees on 31 IV only)
  270. > Marowak4 (SURF, 125 guarantees on 31 IV only)
  271. > Nidoking1 (EQ or SURF; need 136 Atk or 140 SpA to guarantee)
  272. > Nidoking3 (EQ or SURF; need 136 Atk or 140 SpA to guarantee)
  273. > Armaldo1 (SURF, need 122 to get 18% range; 142 on 31 IVs)

  282. > Aerodactyl3 (SURF, 122 guarantees; 137 on 31 IVs)
  283. > Steelix1 (SURF, 139 guarantees; need 135 to get range on 31 IVs)
  284. > Steelix2 (SURF, 141 guarantees; need 135 to get range on 31 IVs)
  285. > Steelix3 (SURF, need 122 to get 12% range; need 135 to get range on 31 IVs)

  332. PARTY: Marshtomp, Taillow, Castform, slave Slakoth, good Slakoth, Tentacool
  333. 1: X Special + Peck (Taillow dies, send in slave Slakoth and then Tentacool)
  334. 2: X Special + Revive Taillow (Tentacool dies, send in Taillow; Taillow blocks EQ)
  335. 3: X Speed + Revive Slakoth (Taillow dies, send in slave Slakoth and then good Slakoth)
  336. 4: Ice Beam Xatu + heal Marshtomp to full (good Slakoth dies after getting exp, send in Castform)
  337. 5: Surf + heal Marshtomp to full (Castform dies, Solrock should charge Solarbeam)
  338. 6: Surf
  339. 7: Surf
  340. RISK: ~3% to die (crit EQ on turn 2 complicates fight and adds risk, crit EQ on turn 4 or bad Castform Sp. Def can cause Solrock to
  341. Psychic half the time, which means you have 2 chances to die to a crit unless defenses are great)
  342.
  343. 3rd Pokemon options:
  344. - Ninjask (Baton Passer @ Brightpowder -- SD/Substitute/Baton Pass/Aerial Ace) -- bad for Arena and Palace
  345. - Shedinja (SD -- stats don't matter except Speed, but Speed matters a lot) -- bad for Pyramid
  346. - Breloom (Subsporepunch -- can get early, but Speed is a concern)
  347. - Starmie (special sweeper @ Shell Bell -- hard to get stats and Natural Cure) -- good for early rounds
  348. 3rd Pokemon notes: Ninjask complements the team well but isn't an ideal lead since its options against most Pokemon are to Substitute and hope for a miss/just pass Speed boosts. It's a good switch when Slaking or Swampert gets targeted by Fighting or Grass moves.
  349. IRL strategy: Allow a few breaks, which will lose 5-10 minutes
